Prudie Day

Just want to get the day started.  Nothing really going on here.  It's already steamy outside unfortunately but I want to take a walk at some point today anyway.  Weeds in our yard are out of control, so maybe i'll do a little of that today if the babe naps well.  Looking forward to the weekend already!

Re: Prudie Day

  • Weekend can’t come fast enough! I need to fit a walk in today too.  Just don’t know when....

last night I went and got some lash extensions put in (hey the focus is all on the eyes right?) but noticed today a whole corner fell off!  But she’s fitting me in today to repair it so that’s good. That’s all that’s going on with me.

  • I’m ready for the weekend. I was pretty grumpy yesterday. I’m hoping today I’m able to continue getting all of my work done and catching up.

I’m curious what’s going to happen to our county/area. Cases are absolutely skyrocketing and the ICU is almost at capacity. And this is in summer, a time when respiratory illnesses are historically lower in numbers and transmission. Lord help us for fall/winter.

  • I got a surprise, random check in the mail yesterday for $128.59.  It's from Wells Fargo Retirement Services marked as "Termination".  From a job I was laid off from almost 9 years ago, lol.  I've periodically gotten mail from Wells Fargo about this "retirement" account, but I have no idea what it is.  I'd also swear my balance was only $2 and change.  I'm almost positive I never signed up with a 401K when I worked for that company and I don't think it did profit sharing into one or anything like that.  I'm going to call the Wells Fargo number today, just to finally satisfy my curiosity, lol.

    But, whatever.  128 bucks!  Yeah!

I'm feeling refreshed from taking the day off yesterday.  Plus I have a nice balance of work to do today.  Other than that, not too much going on.

SIL, nieces, SIL's friend and her family all got here yesterday.  We've spent time with these friends on and off over the years, so they're not strangers.  We don't know their kids as well. I have to work today.  Womp womp.  The friend's daughter, who's 2, keeps coming to my office doors (they're French Doors) to show me her baby and smile at me.  It's ridiculously cute.  They have a 6 year old for DefConn to run around with.  DH is cooking and cleaning and bringing me food.  Everyone's happy.  LOL

I spent yesterday cleaning and preparing the house.  I was so tired by the end of the day.

Tomorrow, we're planning on boating.  Saturday, we're doing a cookout with local family and friends who want to see SIL/nieces.  Sunday, will be recovery/clean-up day.

If computer isn't a butt, I'll get Prudie up here in a few.
  • I'm not feeling today at all. Work blows and I have no motivation. No one at my company takes Covid seriously at all and I'm scared that I'm going to get it and give it to DD. The racism is obvious as well. I'm tempted to start looking for a new job again because I'm over the BS here.

In other news, DD is 5 months today! She had another PT appointment this morning for her torticollis and the therapist was very happy with her progress and said that it's pretty much resolved. Now we have to take her for consult and scan to see if she qualifies for cranial helmet therapy (she has a pretty moderate flat spot on her head due to the torticollis). I'm dreading potentially having to get a helmet for her because 1) insurance most likely won't cover it and 2) it's summer time and hot AF outside. She's going to be so sweaty all the time, poor thing.

How do they develop flat spots? I’ve seen a few friends kids who have them but this is all foreign to me!

Ugh @levioosa that really sucks.  You watching from the healthcare side of things must make it even worse.  Yay for the check @short+sassy

My name made it into a bizarre accusatory rant in one of my neighborhood FB groups this morning.  A woman is pissed that none of her stuff is selling on FB Marketplace and she feels it's the fault of posters who either price their stuff super low or do free curb alerts.  I will admit, I'm guilty of the latter.  With more time at home these last few months, I did a lot of de-cluttering.  The shelter I usually donate my kids' stuff to isn't taking donations of used items.  So whatever my sisters, a few cousins with slightly younger kids, and a mom friend didn't want, I just posted a curb alert- free to the first person who picks it up.  I don't want money I just want the clutter gone.  A lot of the parents in my area must feel the same way bc "free stuff" is pretty common.  No biggie, right?  Not to this lady.  Ironically, she's part of the problem.  I perused some of what she has for sale, and it's priced too high.  And her descriptions of "like new" should actually say "extremely used".  So a touch of excitement on an otherwise slow Thursday.  Nothing like checking FB and seeing 24 notifications lol.  More coming in, the post now has 138 comments after it's 8:30 ET posting time.
DH and I have laughed our asses off when people post on any kind of FB or Craig's List and their stuff is too high with completely incorrect descriptions.

If you want it to move then price it to move!

I love/hate Facebook neighborhood groups (and NextDoor). Things like this are absolutely ridiculous in a way that makes me giggling. Like, it’s on her if she’s not recognizing people are willing to give away things she wants money for. I’d ignore her, or read only the comments that are thankful you’re willing to give people a heads up about things you’re giving away.
  • Yeah and that’s why restaurant openings kinda scare me.  You cant wear them as you eat/drink making it easier to spread.  Some doc today on TV said he was worried about the indoor dining (which is tomorrow for us) so maybe if outdoor dining is an option choose that still?

It is really frightening.  In my area, the largest rise in new cases is in the 18-29 age demographic.  The NOLA mayor announced yesterday that wearing a mask in public is mandatory in the city and they have now formed a task force to enforce compliance.  She didn't mention anything about fines, but members of the task force will have masks to give people who aren't wearing one.

I think mask wearing was already mandatory in the city.  But no one was enforcing it.

I'm sure some of my coworkers and some of the local folks on Nextdoor are going to be all up in arms about it, smh.  There's a Nextdoor instigator that keeps talking about COVID being a hoax.  Sure, dude.  A hoax that millions of people across the world would need to be "in on" for it to be successful.  Got it.  The hired actors/extras for all the hospital and death bed scenes.  All the medical staff who work in hospitals.  All the people who work in the funeral industry.  All the people on a million forums posting about their own, a friend, or a family member's illness.  What is that...20-30% of the world (more?)...all lying to the rest of us?  Really?  Do these people even realize how rare it is for two people to keep a secret, lol.

Do you know what especially rankles me about the people who complain about mask requirements?  Some of them sneeringly say "I thought it was..." or "What happened to..." My body, my choice.  Stealing the phrase from and making fun of the Pro-Choice movement.  As if protecting public health has ANYTHING to do with personal choices people make that affect nobody but them.

I'll get off my soapbox now, lol.
Yeah - that isn't the point!

Also, have these people not seen medical professionals or visuals from other countries??
  • I have to roll my eyes so hard at that lady @ei34 it's Marketplace, not your job.

Not much going on here. We have to drain DS's pool and move it 6" so we can get the mower pass it to mow. We also have to clean it. I would also like to take apart the crib and move it out of DS's room now that I am confident about him sleeping in his bed. The only other big thing we have going on this weekend is trying a new burrito place that opened a second location on our end of the city.
  • @charlotte989875 typically flat spots occur when a baby lays flat/placed in the same position for too long. It can be from overuse of a bouncy chair/swing/car seat (that's what happened with my nephew - he lived in a chair and has a flat spot on the back of his head). It also started becoming increasingly common with the "back to sleep" initiative - babies are supposed to sleep on their backs to prevent SIDS but that much time on their back creates flat spots.

Abby's was caused by her torticollis - she had tight neck muscles and couldn't turn her head to the left so she always slept with her head facing right no matter what we did to turn her and developed a flat spot on the right side of her head. We did so much tummy time, never used the swing or rocker chair but it didn't matter in her case. I was actually terrified of swings and bouncer chairs because of what happened with my nephew. So my advice would be to minimize container time, do lots of tummy time, and watch for signs of baby having issues turning their head to one side or the other.

That is just bizarre!  But also a bit hilarious.  Hopefully it's not too annoying and people don't start bugging you.

I am definitely an eye-roller when people ask for ridiculous prices on things.  Or want to pay a ridiculous price for something.  I think a rough guideline for most used items that are fairly new/great condition, even if they are new with tags, is half of retail.

I try to just chalk it up to "it's a free country, people can charge/ask whatever they want".  But I also can't help but wonder what people are thinking.

I realize real estate is a whole different subject, but that is a category with serious delusions, lol. My H and I were lmao at a listing this weekend.  They were advertising the home as a duplex.  Except it wasn't.  It HAD been a duplex at one point in time and did have two addresses.  But someone had turned it into a single family home.  The listing advertised something like "...or you can throw up a wall, add a kitchen, and turn it back into a duplex!"

Throw up a wall. And add a kitchen. (Side-eye). Of course!  So easy!  Other than also having to hire an architect, plumber, and electrician for the myriad of permits that will need to be pulled, lol.

My other favorite that I was personally involved with was an offer I put down on a fixer-upper.  It was a lot less then their asking price, so I justified my offer by listing the substantial repairs needed, their cost, and the comps for the After Repair Value.  Y'all, this house had an active sewage leak from a broken pipe in the ground!  The sellers sent a message back to their agent that my offer was so low, they weren't even going to respond to it.  That house sat...in one of the hottest markets in the city...for 6 months.  Ever so slowly dropping in price.  Until it was only $6K above what my initial offer had been.  Hmmm. Yes. Guess my offer wasn't so "crazy low", lol.  By then, I was already in the process of purchasing the duplexes I've been rehabbing, so I was no longer interested and didn't put in another offer.

Had my first in person meeting today since beginning of March. The client asked if I could come in and meet in person and I said OK. I joked with him that this was the first time I've worn real pants since the first week of March - which is true! We did distance and no handshake or anything; I brought a mask but felt fine not wearing it though I had one in case he did

@short+sassy the sellers sending a message to your agent was them responding to it >:)

The post is now at over 200 comments and has of course turned sexist, racist, political, etc.  Five different dads called the OP "Karen" (am I allowed to roll my eyes at white men using Karen?), an overly-woke mom accused all of the curb-alert moms who gave away free stuff of faking their support of BLM, we should have all sold the stuff and donated the money to A,B, or C causes, etc.  Good times.  Nothing has been directly aimed at me or anyone else actually named in the post.  I just turned off notifications.
  • I bought the complete series for The Facts of Life.  I am such a Natalie.

Wow, seriously? How about just giving something to someone who needs it. Yikes.
  • Just trying to finish up this day, so we can pack and head to my parent's shore house.  I still have a little bit of cleaning to do.  We will give DD a quick bath as soon as we pick her up from daycare and an easy dinner of grilled cheese and fries, so little clean up.

Not sure what all is on tap for our weekend.  Lots of pictures and video of the shore with maskless people.  So probably some take out and maybe a lunch or early dinner out, so we aren't doing anything during peak time.  DD wants to go to the beach too, so hopefully we will have decent weather for that.  Our beach gets all the sand from eroded beaches, so there is always room to spread out there!
  • I'm glad it's almost the end of the day. Work is being annoying today and I'm just over it. I'm looking forward to a weekend without a ton of plans.

I just took lunch (yes, at 3), and took the dog out for a bit. There was a deer in the back yard. It's not uncommon, but usually they see the dog and GTFO. This one apparently didn't get the memo. It stood there while the dog barked, but then ran when the dog got closer. Then dog being a dog did a few laps around the yard and came over the play ball with me. It was only about 15 minutes before the stupid deer came back. She barked until it ran away again, but I had to bring her in because it stresses me out too much.

Wow, this post sounds fascinating!  I'd be grabbing my popcorn.  I am also someone who likes to give stuff away, especially when it comes to plants or produce.  I like to grow stuff, but then I can't eat it all or I don't have time to harvest it when the time comes.  My parents usually get all my extra stuff, but if someone in my area wanted to come to be house on a regular basis and just take my herbs, they could have as much as they want!  I guess I could sell it, but I just don't want the hassle, and sometimes it is just nice to share.  I've gotten lots of free stuff in the past - why not pay it forward?

I've also been guilty of overpricing items, but usually they are stuff I don't really need to sell, and I'm expecting someone to lowball me, so I wait for those offers.  I've had a Tim Hortons stereo for sale on the boards for about a year now with no bites.  I might just not sell - I hadn't thought about what I would play my CDs on once it is gone.

  • I'm looking forward to this weekend.  Six day work week for me since I worked on Sunday, so I am ready for a break.  Plus overtime today and  tomorrow ... I'm so happy the weather isn't hot anymore!  I am finally, FINALLY almost done weeding my front yard, and it looks so much better.  Once I get the mulch down, it's going to look amazing.  But of course, as I've been focusing on the front, the weeds in the back yard and the side garden have gotten crazy.  Hopefully I can take care of that tonight and tomorrow.

One of my rabbits has decided to make a play at being the alpha, and now I have to isolate him for a few weeks and then rebond him with the others.  He was always my sweet timid one, and then it seems like two days ago he just decided that he was done with it and starting beating the crap out of anyone that came near him, except me and the dog.  And he's the biggest rabbit so he can do some damage.  I hate rebonding - it takes so long and is sort of finicky work.  I hope that he comes to his senses quickly.
