Back to the Grind

(title for the non-educators aka everyone but me)
How was everyone's weekend?  My 4th was really nice. Some swimming (my parents got a removable water slide for their pool which the kids adored...and kids only...weight limit is 120lbs so it's going to be a long summer of watching it enviously lol), delicious bbq, 2 of the 3 kids even stayed up until 9pm to watch some pretty fireworks that were the perfect distance- we could see them but not hear them too much.  After St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Mothers/Fathers Day, it was nice to have a holiday again that felt somewhat similar to past years.
Hope everyone is doing/feeling well.

Re: Back to the Grind

  • Back to the grind!

Friday I worked for a bit in catch up.   The four day week was full of meetings and we're faced with a lot of work so the use of Friday AM was needed.   Friday night we did dinner and a movie in front of the TV and started Big Hero 6.

Saturday we went to the marina and the kids swam as the ONLY kids in the pool until about 7:30.   We got take out from the seafood place next door (the sort of place where all food is served on paper plates - DH and I had hot lobster rolls!) and then left to grill marshmallows at the ILs.

Sunday we went on the boat, I got a sunburn and the kids went in the pool for the afternoon.   We headed home in the late afternoon and DH watched the race and we finished the movie in front of the TV.   I made homemade strawberry shortcake for dessert - delicious!

  • Is it nap time yet?

Weekend was good, Friday we finally picked out a chair for the nursery (my first time in a store since March) and most of the weekend was getting things together for the nursery. Also napping. We’re having a heat wave here and it has sapped the remaining energy I have that isn’t stollen by the baby.

But yesterday we had dinner with family outside and it was so nice. We took the dog and he got to run with his best buddy (BIL’s dog) and the kids. He was terrified of the pool but wanted to play with the kids while they were swimming. Overall a great weekend!

@cupcait927 how has the adjustment to the nanny been? Glad she liked the pool because if your forecast is like ours this week you’re going to need it!
  • @banana468 yum lobster roll! I had a pretty productive weekend. I've been wanting to paint the cabinets in two of our bathrooms. I got one sanded and primed yesterday so painting is today. Not sure if I'll do the other bathroom right away since I'm headed up to Chicago on Friday. I'll see how today goes.

Saturday, H grilled burgers and sweet corn (from the farmer's market -yummy) and yesterday he made a tomato galette with tomatoes from the market. I will say I ate way too much this weekend. Have to get back to watching intake. I think the pain I've been experiencing with my hip has contributed to weight gain - especially in the belly. I think cortisol levels increase when under stress which to contributes to belly fat. Ugh!
  • So weekend sucked a.f!

Few updates - BabyKitten is allergic to sesame. We're getting a bread maker because ALL bread says "may contain" and she is at risk for that.
We have a plan for desensitization process to help reduce allergy - she'll never not be allergic but hopefully EpiPen will not be needed if she encounters it.

Canada Day - last Wednesday - we did splash pad then went to IL's for dinner.
BIL and FSIL are doing a micro-wedding, and BIL told their nanny that she wasn't invited but their dad wasn't because of numbers. She flipped shit, and apparently now isn't going.
M is now going, and after he's gonna pick up BabyKitten and I to do quick visit.

    This weekend.
Saturday we went to the beach. M went to go fishing while BabyKitten and I went in the water.
FYI she is a damn fish lmao! Kept running to the water, even when she's freezing lol

M comes back after awhile and is hobbling.
He broke a toe. Lovely. So he's in pain but we were ready to go anyways.

We get about 1/2 way home {approx} and I adjust the a/c .... suddenly we smell smoke. Realized the rear passenger wheel is smoking!
Pulled off. Got CAA to get the car, and SFIL to pick us up.
    {dealership called this morning and said brake pad basically seized into caliper? Idk. It's a fucking mess and gonna cost $1,000 after taxes which is approx what M expected. They're gonna adjust front brakes because they're now at risk to happening. Guh!}

So BabyKitten took a nap, so did we.

About 1am M is bitching about something so I woke up to see what's up. His foot hurts and he thinks infection. Same foot as broke toe.
He deals with the cleaning with what we can.
Cleans again in the morning and opts to go to a clinic.

Not only is he now on meds for infection {which he's unfortunately having side effects} but he then had to get something removed from the cut. Which was small for the record.
But unfortunately, we needed to do groceries.
MIL came to watch BabyKitten nap, and SFIL took me to do groceries.

Luckily BabyKitten had zero idea of all the drama. She just knew "Saw grandma Friday. Went to the beach! Had great snacks! Grampa drove us home.
Nana was there when I woke up from a nap. I got to see grampa again!"

Good morning all! Weekend was OK, DH and the neighbor do a big fireworks show for the neighborhood so that was Friday night. Saturday I hung at the pool with friends and DH was hungover and slept all day. My parents had baby B Fri and Sat night which was nice although since both nights were full of fireworks I barely slept and didn't feel refreshed. B is super clingy now from being gone for 2 days even though he had fun. He told me he doesn't want to sleep at their house again for a long, long time. Guess he's not ready for another night away from me.
  • I need a day off to recover from the weekend. The time off was good. Weds afternoon, my sister and I drove up to Kentucky. We haven't spent much time together just us in quite a while. It was good to just chat and be together for a few hours. We got to spend a little time with family on Weds evening once we got there. The funeral Thursday was very sad. It was sad in a kind of meek way, if that makes sense. There wasn't a lot of pomp and it seemed very impersonal. It bothered me more than I thought it would. Thursday evening we hung out on my grandma's porch and watched fireworks. It was a surprisingly great show.

Friday we came home and I watched Hamilton on Disney Plus. Saturday I did the yard and then we went tubing. We were able to see some fireworks from our deck, but it wasn't as loud as I'd feared. Yesterday was cleaning, laundry and errands. It's been hot, but it's supposed to be cooler and rainy most of the week. I'm looking forward to a rainy afternoon!
  • @mrsconn23 so glad to hear that everyone is okay after the road debris incident!

@charlotte989875 She's doing okay. She doesn't nap nearly as well over there so she's usually ready for bed within an hour of getting home. She naps a little better at my MIL's house during the first half of the week but still not great. Both say that she's always super happy and smiley though so she's adjusting well in that aspect. It's hard only getting an hour a day with her during the week, which usually consists of eating dinner, baths and bottles so it's not really quality time.
  • Damn, that’s a lot @mraconn23. Hope your trip this weekend is a lot less eventful.
  • Whew, y'all had some exciting weekends!  I'm glad everyone had fun and everyone is okay!!

I didn't do anything except keep working on getting back on track.  Picked up groceries, got the 2nd loft space cleaned up and the rower moved back out, paid rent, cleaned my kitchen, did laundry, renewed my IFit membership, just little things that needed to be done.  We watched about half of Hamilton and then lots of other brain dead movies.  We're almost finished with Season 3 of Westworld finally.  I can't even think of anything exciting.
  • Weekend was very low key.  It was too hot to do much or go anywhere.  We were both off on Friday.  We hung at home and watched TV.  I didn't feel well on Friday and DH didn't on Sat or Sun.  We watched Married at First Sight season 9 on Netflix - interesting show.

On Friday sister tripped over a toy at her stepdaughter's home and fell on cement.  She didn't think she needed to go to ER but after a sleepless night and being in excruciating pain, she went by ambulance on the Fourth.  Turns out she fractured her hip and she had surgery yesterday.  She's 57, so not elderly, just a bad fall.

Back to work today and all that.

  • @banana468, I will trade you two lobster rolls for two shrimp or oyster poboys (your choice), lol.

Wow, lots of fun and exciting weekends in WW!  With a few not so great things that happened.

I am not "back to the grind" yet, but I will be tomorrow.  Overall, we had a fairly mellow weekend, but dang it!  I did not have even ONE day where I didn't need to leave the house to go do something.  Oh well, at least this week is a short week also.

My H had something really terrifying happen on Friday and I'm still upset about it.  He is okay, thank God.  There's a scumbag neighbor renting the corner lot house at the end of the street we have our rehab duplexes on.  Just to paint more of the picture, the neighbor's lot is extra big and he runs some kind of backyard mechanic's shop on it.

So he also keeps two vicious guard dogs on the property.  50-60 lb. muscular dogs and, in classic fighter dogs style, have ears so cropped they are barely still there.  I guess to "protect" the shitty junked cars? (eyeroll).  Except he doesn't always keep them in the yard.  He lets them roam the neighborhood at large.  Because he doesn't give a shit if they attack and kill a small child, on this family-friendly street that is full of kids.

Anyway, on Fri., both dogs jumped on my H and brought him to the ground.  Snarling and growling, about to bite him.  But one of the people we have working there heard what was happening and was able to chase the dogs away.

Y'all seriously!  My H is dog-savvy.  He wouldn't have done anything to provoke them.  He's strong, 5'11", and in good health.  But those dogs knocked a grown-ass man to the ground like it was nothing.  He called the police and animal services.  But animal services where we live is as useless as a box of rocks.  Those dogs will actually have to bite or kill someone for them to maybe do something.

The dog owner was completely blase.  Had the audacity to totally ignore the FACTS of what happened.  And said his dogs are nice and were "just playing".

Since I had the day off and we'd bought a fridge for one of the rentals, I went over there this morning to drop my fridge and H off.  And, oh look.  Just a few days after attacking my H, there are the dogs roaming the streets loose again.

I'm going to be sending a certified letter to both the property and ESPECIALLY to the landlord who owns the property...that probably doesn't even know what happened...to put them on notice that there are dogs living there that now have a documented history of attacking a person. We're also going to be looking into buying dog mace or something like that for my H and our construction people to protect themselves.

Well, let's see: I took some clothes to a tailoring shop for alterations, long-overdue. I'll admit that it will be nice to have clothes that actually fit properly.

I have a major CPE deadline of 8/31 to renew a work-related certification so I'm into that while trying to cast an online Shakespeare production.

One of my cousins did a surprise wedding. He and his now wife were expected to marry, but they'd sped things up because of Covid and because his father (my aunt's widower) is sick and his prognosis is grim from cancer.

Sadly, tomorrow night I have a Zoom memorial service for a family friend who died last week.  :'( Very close friend of my parents. She was a nice lady.

Too much sickness. I keep getting assigned clients at work who are elderly, sick and/or deceased.  :'(

    @mrsconn23 @MissKittyDanger how horrible! I'm so sorry.

  • @Jen4948, I'm sorry for you and your family's loss.

  • Weekend was pretty good. I got super drunk on the 4th because apparently when you don’t drink for almost a month your tolerance goes to shit and two margaritas do you in. So yesterday I was in recovery survival mode and I managed to squeeze out an hour walk without throwing up in 103 F heat.

Today hasn’t been great. Work is a dumpster fire and the kitten we rescued and were trying to save died. =( he had a drastic change in condition overnight and then FI checked on him this morning it was too late to do anything. It’s just upsetting because he was okay last night. Not great, but I thought between the meds and IV he would be okay until we took him in this afternoon. And he was better than he was when we first started helping him. But the kitten we put to bed last night was not the same kitten we woke up to this morning. =( FI gave him an IV this morning and then rushed him to the vet but it was too late. I’m bummed. I bet FI is a mess.
