Monday, Monday

Well this is my last Monday for roughly 14 weeks! Somehow I’ve also managed not to schedule anything before 11 for most of the week. Apparently I’m doing this prepping for parental leave right.

I also slept for about 8.5 hours last night which rarely happens so even though it’s insanely hot I’d say I’m doing okay for a Monday.

Enjoy the sleeping while you can!

It's SO HOT.    We didn't put a window unit in my office and now it's a bit gross.   We had a thunderstorm around 5 AM and between that and odd dreams (like dreaming that Chiquito took a bubble bath at 2 AM) I am looking forward to sleeping tonight.

I saw my parents yesterday and dad is appearing OK but is definitely off.  He couldn't remember my age or my birthday and these are signs things are off.  I need to take the kids to see him soon.
  • @charlotte989875 So exciting! And omg to the 8.5 hours of sleep last night! I was so tired during my last trimester but I'd wake up a million times a night because I had to rollover or use the bathroom and would take forever to fall back asleep.

Oh I’m definitely getting up 2-3 times a night to use the bathroom or move positions, but last night I was actually able to fall right back asleep. Normally I’m up for an hour or two each time I get up. I’m calling it a win!
  • OMG, you're so close!  That's exciting!  I took the best nap of my pregnancy the day before I went into labor with DefConn, just sayin'.

It was a hot AF weekend.  It was the first low-key weekend we've had in awhile. DH and I were alone Friday night because my dad took DefConn to stay at his house with my nephew.  FIL showed up unannounced, but didn't stay very long.   I did get over to my fave boutique this weekend to shop with my sister.  I found amazing jeans and a couple cute tops.

Cases are jumping by a lot here. I'm sure it's 4th of July lag.  It's freaking me out.  School starts a week from Thursday.

People are on my nerves today.  I'm so tired of the same shit from shitty people thinking they're so special and we need to make exceptions for 'just' them.  It's not 'just' you, dude. It's everyone.  All the time.

    YUP!

Working in customer service there's a whole lot of this all over the place.

"Well why can't you make this adjustment for us?"  Because doing that impacts everyone else?  Because it's not part of the agreement?  Because that comes at an extra cost?"

I listen to a Disney podcast and read up on them since we were planning to go.   The favorite line repeated at times is when they hear people say, "Do you know how much we paid for this vacation?!?"

Answer: YES!  We all do!   The rates are PUBLISHED!  And EVERYONE in the park is paying to get in!

  • Oh, @charlotte989875, you’ll see other Monday’s.  You may not be working for them, but they will come around :) but yeah so freaking exciting for you!!!

good thinking @banana468, this is probably a spike from the long weekend.

Ok so my Venus clothes arrived Friday.  I was so impressed with it!  Blown away by the jeans and for only $22.99!  I may have another order on the way from them and a huge wish list piled up high.  When do I get jeans that fit so well? But also - Im not really going anywhere to where these fab clothes lol!

You're right!  Spikes now are most likely due to the July 4th holiday gatherings.

BUt what I was actually referring to is people who go to an amusement park and think that for some reason they're paying some huge amount to be there that the rest of the park guests aren't paying.
  • Weekend was good and productive. Friday after work I did a hike with FSIL. I was able to make my face appointment on Saturday and then we had dinner and drinks with FSIL/FBIL. Sunday FSIL and I did a few workouts which took up most of the day. I got some decent sleep last night but I feel a little in the hole still due to last week’s terrible sleep. I’m hoping this week is better. Last week was a shit show and I just felt tired, off, and irritated all week long. I’m doing a hike after work and then plan on passing out early.

I’m getting to the point where I really need to go to the dentist and optometrist and I’m not sure what to do about it.

I’m sorry to hear about your dad @banana468

Oh and DH did fix my toilet, but now I can't use my shower.  He took out our shower door in our bathroom this weekend, but the shower curtain we bought was too short.  I couldn't find a longer one in a store, so we are waiting on Amazon.

It's probably contributing to my crankiness.  The other shower is not *my* shower, damn it.
  • It's hotAF here too. I'm so over it. I'm tired of having to do the yard early to avoid the heat of the day. I'm tired of not being able to go for a walk when it fits my schedule. I'm tired of the dog being too hot to play. It's supposed to be pretty rainy this week, and I'm all for it.

So question for the brain trust. Yesterday our neighbors invited us over. It was our next door neighbors (an older couple), their adult daughter, plus another couple and their adult daughter who live across the street. It was low key wine and cheese, but they also invited us to swim. I took a bottle of wine as a hostess gift. Now that the gathering is over, what's my appropriate follow up? Do I write a thank you note, or just verbal thank you next time I see them out? Not gonna lie, I'm secretly hoping for some future pool invitations.
  • I had a fantastic weekend! Didn't do a darn thing, lol.  I felt totally relaxed.

I ordered a Whole Foods grocery delivery through Amazon.  Initially it was just to order a Portuguese sausage they have that I really like.  When I went to their website, apparently frozen treats were on a 35% sale!  Some pints of ice cream may have snuck into the cart.  Then our next door neighbor brought us extra food he had from a food pantry visit, which was a totally unexpected but nice surprise.  One of the items was three individual servings of a ready-made meal that included white beans with sausage, rice, and grilled chicken.  Simple enough sounding, but it was great comfort food and SO much more flavorful and delicious than I was expecting.  We ate all of it before the weekend was over, lol.  I mean, sausage AND chicken.  In one meal!  Yes, please.

Despite the Whole Foods order, I still need to make my way to a "real" grocery store today or tomorrow, lol.  Yes, Whole Foods.  It's very nice that everything's organic and grown on the eastern slopes of the Himalayas.  But sometimes I just want normal name brand products and regular ole' rice that's 2 bucks a bag instead of $6-$7/bag, smh.

Phone call to the neighbors sounds appropriate if you can.

If they're like my MIL, then she likes the random phone call.

Verbal gets my vote.  Next time you see them “oh and thanks again for the invite the other day, we had a really good time”

We haven't exchanged numbers. I thought about writing a quick note with our phone numbers/thank you, but it feels like overkill.

Then when you see them next I'd say a TY or slip a note under their door?

If they're older you could always exchange numbers in an effort to be neighborly.
  • @charlotte989875 yay baby!! Please AW little one when you're able to <3 I'm so excited for you!

This might be UO but I think thanking them at the event, giving the wine, etc is plenty enough. Unless you feel like they are the kind who will expect a thank you afterwards I wouldn't worry about it. Next time you see them reminding them you enjoyed the party is fine but otherwise I dont see a need.

Yay for the sleep @charlotte989875 and the jeans @CharmedPam
@MyNameIsNot I'd go with an enthusiastic but genuine verbal thank you

Hot as heck here too...we're in a 90s heatwave, yuck. Picked some eggplant and tomatoes from the garden earlier and just made a pasta all norma for dinner (well, kept some of the sauce on the side to mix with cauliflower rice for myself for later)...thought I'd beat the heat of 3-4pm by doing it now but nope, I'm drenched.
The twins' bday gathering was nice.  Just my parents and one sister, BIL and their kids...the kids had a ball together, and I enjoyed having family over (in the yard).

Bummed out about some parts of NYC kind of giving up over the weekend and having wild street parties.  I doubt the images made it past local news but picture tons of 20-somethings on top of each other drinking and partying and no masks.  Like c'mon guys, be better.  What I really miss about pre-pandemic life is just that casual, impulsive stroll through Homegoods/Barnes&Noble/Williams-Sonoma to browse/sometimes buy.  Such a FWP sentence but I'm annoyed that me and lots of people have kept it to a once a week or every other week grocery shop for essentials, but here are hundreds of people partying bc they miss it.  Just put me in a bad mood.

Glad you got some sleep! Best of luck going forward.

Today is kind of a drag. After my four-day weekend it's just blah. I'm back at work, but it's not particularly interesting. Still, it could be much worse, so I'm counting my blessings that it isn't.
