Wedding Woes

Tuesday’s are...

... better when you’re on vacation. Got up, took a walk, vacuumed some floors, and now I’m rewatching some West Wing. This is much better than my regular Tuesday!

Re: Tuesday’s are...

  • Enjoy your time off!

I am dragging today. FSIL and I did an 8 mile hike after work yesterday and then I passed out at 11. I’m so tired this morning. I think I woke up in the middle of a sleep cycle because I was sleeping super hard and I haven’t been able to shake it.

    Otherwise, SSDD.

  • Yes, enjoy your time before the baby arrives @charlotte989875

I’m tired too.  Could barley get up.  But I did. And got my workout in.  I’m looking forward to dinner tonight though.  This but with tilapia instead:

The last 24 hours have been trying.

First of all, FIL scheduled a procedure for yesterday to resolve a tremor issue.  His explanation of all this was a little too 'breezy', but I'm not a brain surgeon.  Also, no one else seemed overly concerned and my capacity for digging into medical stuff is maxed out this year.

They had to screw a fucking halo into his head and shoved him in an MRI machine to shoot lasers into his head for 2+ hours.  He said it was like having vertigo while someone sledge-hammered your head.  He can't drive for 2 weeks and probably shouldn't be alone for too long.  His speech is slightly impaired and he's a little shaky on his feet.  The tremor is gone, so...yay flags?

DH took him to this surgery and I've basically told DH that maybe he should strongly request to go to pre-op appts with FIL in the future to ask questions and understand post-op restrictions, since we're his default caretakers.  We don't mind, but a head's up on how much work/planning/disruption we were looking at would have been nice.  We thankfully don't have too much planned the next couple weeks. I hope FIL's brother comes to town as he said he might back around the 4th.

Then, FIL lost power yesterday afternoon due to strong storms.  The kiddo, FIL, and the dog spent the night.  DH took FIL to his follow-up this morning and then went back to FIL's house and FIL STILL doesn't have power.  So now the dog and FIL are here.  At least DefConn has entertainment.

Oh and I have a 1.5 hour town hell hall zoom to introduce our 'rebranding' this afternoon.  I swear I may dial in and lay on the floor of my office.

PLUS I have a 'meet the teacher' zoom tonight because we start school in 2 damn days, in person.

All that sounds about right for Tuesday.  The worst day of the week.

Edited to add:  @mrsconn23, good luck to your FIL and his recovery!  That procedure sounds terrible.  But I also can't blame you at all for being annoyed that all the after-care help he's going to need was downplayed/not really mentioned ahead of time.  I know you and your H already have your plates full with work and kids.

Today is my day where I have so many mystery shops to get done before 6PM, that I'm having to leave work three hours early, lol.  Kind of regret doing that, but the money was too good to resist.

Pretty much just slogging through this week as best I can, lol.

  • I am pissed at our team.   We've had manufacturing delays and I get it.   But I can't help but feel like my ability and my customer's planning is now meaning that we've jammed in rush orders pushing out ones that we've had in.   It's really frustrating to give consistently bad information.

We finally decided to lease a house in the woods for vacation and I'm looking forward to that socially distant week away.   We are going to come home and BIL and SIL are going through a duplicate of last year which is awful.   This is the time away that we need.

I read the kiddo the riot act last night about helping out papaw and not basically being a 19 year old knucklehead for the next couple weeks since he lives there (for practically free) and all.  Also, I don't mind them being here due to the power issue.  It was just 'another thing' on top of all the things.  Oh and DH is still suffering from his allergic reaction issues.  So he's also not feeling himself and gets cranky much easier than normal.  He's trying to fake it to make it, but I'm the one hearing about his misery.

@VarunaTT, I just heard about a fairly new website/idea that sounded really cool and unique.  It's called "Swimply".  It's basically like an Airbnb...but for swimming pools.  You can actually rent someone's private swimming pool/patio area, by the hour.  The average hourly rental rate is $45.  The website/service started in either 2018 or 2019, but they've grown by leaps and bounds during COVID.

I saw a short interview with the founder.  The majority of hosts have bathrooms available, just for their "swim guests".  For most hosts, it's also a "hands off" set-up where they never even see or interact with the guests.  There are strict cleaning procedures that are done after each visit.  Not just for the pool, but more so the patio furniture, common areas, bathroom, etc.  I actually got the impression that the website themselves have local contracts to send out cleaners and that's part of the service they provide to both hosts and guests.

    Edited to correct company name.

  • @banana468 Enjoy the vacation! I'd love a long weekend away in the woods.

@VarunaTT Pool time sounds like it's exactly what you need.

I read about that a little while ago.  It's not in my area, but I did download it as a "just in case this little Midwestern city decides to grow up".  Water baby for life!

    :D
  • @VarunaTT, I hadn't checked NOLA previously, but now I broke down and checked it out, lol.  Only three pools currently listed within 20 miles and they are all $60/hour.  And I see now the website is Swimply, with a "p", instead of Swimly.

  • Huh.  Interesting.  chicagoland’s got 10 pools in my area.  Some 30-80/hr

  • Tuesdays suck. Today is month end Tuesday, which sucks the most. I have to do a bunch of reporting (which I enjoy), but a lot of it is start this and wait for it to run. Then start that and wait for it. It's so much start stop, and I'm constantly distracted while waiting, so it usually means working late. Oh well, it's only once a month.

Now I want to go to the pool. There are some in my area, but $60 an hour seems really high to go for 3-4 hours. There's a community pool nearby that I could join for $500/year, or I could book a hotel room for $100/night and use the pool for 2 days. I guess it's about privacy.
  • Well it only took a day and a half for my office to contact me. One of my guys is probably resigning at the end of next month because his wife got a super great opportunity across the country. Good for them, but he was one of the more senior people on me team. At least I don’t actually have to do anything they just wanted me to know.

I'm normally so fortunate that there is a free community pool one block away from my house.  Not even an HOA or anything, it's in a park area that's owned by the city.  But the pool is only open in the summer...but understandably not this summer.

You could also check hotels around you.  I know some of them here allow people to buy day/weekly/monthly passes.  Perhaps not this year, but usually.
