@Jen4948, I hope you're doing okay over there in Houston.  I was sad to see all the flooding pictures.  Especially after what the city went through with Harvey just a few years ago.

Back at work after enjoying my random vacay day on Monday.  Didn't do much, just got a lot of rest.  When can I retire, lol?  I am so resentful to come to work all the time.  Not their fault, it's just come to feel like such a drag and a grind.  A big part of the problem is I am not busy enough, so it is boring to be here.  Occasionally I think about looking for different work to shake things up.  But, right now, is obviously a bad time to do that.  Plus, a new job could easily be a worst situation in so many ways.

My PERFECT world would be this job switching to p/t, even if that meant less money.  3 days/week would be ideal.  However, they rarely do p/t positions so it is just a pipe dream.  Once I get my refi's done, I might start keeping my eye out for a different job that is either good-paying p/t or a WFH position.  I know it's a pretty tall order.  But since my present job is tolerable and hopefully not going anywhere, I have the benefit of waiting for exactly the right position to come along, even if they are few and far between.

  • Thinking of you @Jen4948

I’m back at work today and a little salty about it lol. Having days off was nice. I’m still a little bummed about mammoth. Our vacation was just so different from the relaxing nature envelopment I had envisioned and honestly really needed. I ended up getting a pumpkin cream cold brew from Starbucks in an attempt to mitigate the saltiness. It will be nice to get back to a real routine though. I’m also annoyed because I got a replacement phone under warranty and it has been having the most problems. It shuts off randomly, it won’t play music, it loses reception. I will be pissed if they won’t give me a new one. It’s been less than two weeks. Ugh.

Otherwise I’m doing okay. I feel like FI and I got some good time together which we needed. Looking forward to maybe having a date night this weekend.

  • Oh and happy first day of Autumn everyone!

  • Mmm pumpkin cream cold brew @levioosa, betcha that was a nice treat!

SSDD for me. Yesterday during my shower, I was switching out razor blades and had it held to high, I was getting back into the shower and leaned in - right on the razor.  Nicked my chin :( guess who had a video conference call yesterday too?  This girl! And I never have them!

  • @levioosa any chance you can do a mini mammoth, some place, let's be honest, not as exciting but that can check some of those boxes for you?

@CharmedPam that sucks! I hope you went into the meeting with a little piece of toilet paper stuck to your chin, lol

@MyNameIsNot that sounds like an amazing weekend! Absolutely perfect.

DH's birthday is tomorrow and I got nothing. We are getting a hotel room (the 3 of us) Thursday night, because they have a great kids pool and it costs less than the water park, and massages Saturday (which is actually a coincidence but I am lumping it into "birthday weekend"). His real present comes next weekend when he goes deepsea fishing with his buddies but it is a surprise so, my question is, Should I get him/ do something for him tomorrow? I don't have time to go shopping for anything so I guess a bj will have to do, LOL.

I am really looking forward to my massage, and that's about as far into the future as I am thinking right now.
  • Have fun on your run @charlotte989875 and FX for your husband.
  • @missJeanLouise the problem is everything with that kind of environment is 5-6 hours away and also all on fire right now. =( we already set up a tentative Yosemite trip for 2021 that hopefully will go through but who knows. I thought about doing mammoth for my birthday but late February/early March will still most likely have a lot of snow.

  • Thanks @levioosa and @short+sassy . I'm at home today since my company suggested everyone work from home. The weird thing is that I don't have any actual work to do and had I gone into the office, I would have had to come up with make-work. I got all my assignments done and my new home computer is not yet set up for remote work (I'm supposed to get the VPN installed tonight).

So I'm coming up with other ways to fill the time. My boss suggested I work on CPE. I'm taking a break from that at the moment.

@CharmedPam , I hope that nick heals soon and didn't affect your meeting.

    Enjoy your run @charlotte989875 !

Happy Autumn (I love the leaves turning. It's one of the things I miss most since moving from NYC to Houston).
  • Speaking of Starbucks cold brew, has anyone had the salted caramel cold foam ? I kind of want to try it. I usually just get cold brew with HnH and sugar free vanilla
  • SIB

@kvruns and @levioosa, all this talk about Starbucks specialty drinks has prompted me to admit my dark, UO secret, lol.  I absolutely cannot stand most SB beverages like that.  It doesn't matter what flavor it is supposed to be, they often only taste like disgustingly sweetened milk with maybe a hint of coffee and maybe a hint of whatever other flavor it is supposed to be.  And they don't even always have the "hints" of other flavors.

People love them so much that I do wonder if they just hit my taste buds really differently.  I know I'm a lot more sensitive to the taste of sweet than most people.  But it has to be more than that because I just find them so awful tasting and flavorless.

@short+sassy they are too sweet for me too. I always ask for just one pump of flavor, maybe 2 if it is large or if I get an extra shot of espresso.
  • @short+sassy I did try one SB specialty drink about a month ago that was surprisingly very coffee forward, instead of flavor-forward. It was the cold brew with dark cocoa almond milk foam. There's no extra syrup or sugar in it, just the chocolate flavor from the almond milk foam. My H loved it because he's not normally a fan of the super sugary drink but does like a little sweetness.
  • The kiddo and I leave for therapy in a bit, she's got her tooth abscess? appt tomorrow and a migraine appt the next day...we're just going to answer health questions and get temps taken all the time.

The Mr., however, drew the short straw and has to take her to the DDS.  It's an unexpected fluke, here's hoping it's not disastrous.

otherwise, SSDD.  emailed my boss about the possibility of not opting out of the care act stuff.  She was vauge in response, but she probably has to chase that one up the chain a bit.

I am having mask acne, so I"m online shopping for a cure.

I managed to get into my old resume (I used to have word.  I no longer have an employer who pays for it--and I don'tw anna do my resume on the work computer), which is a plus.

And I managed to scrounge up all the supplies for my next science video from work's recycling.  (<dumpster diving, living the dream!)

My yard is amazing looking riht now, and I need to enjoy it before winter or hot weather (we get both) hits.
  • yall are crazy wanting your coffee to taste like coffee - I need sweet in my life. you dont want to know how many pumps of SF vanilla I use haha
  • @GBCK, I don't have MS Office on my home computer either.  I use a free software called Libre.  It can open open MS Word documents, though resaving needs to be in the Libre format.  You can also open a Libre file in MS Word.

As for working in Libre, it doesn't have all the features Word does, but for basic/intermediate word processing it works like a champ.  Libre also has a version of Excel that I use.

Come to think of it, one small perk of WFH for two months during the heavy part of the pandemic is now I can access my work computer from my home computer.  So I guess I can use Word/Excel at home, if I'm logged into and working under that computer.  I also keep some personal files on my work computer and it has occasionally been handy to be able to pull them up from home.

I'm in that tiny minority of people who don't like coffee. I'm not sure why, but I have never been able to acquire a taste for it (and it's not because I haven't tried). I have to stick with tea and cocoa. My dad, on the other hand, is a coffee connoisseur.

@kvruns It's one of my favorites. I have caramel syrup and sea salt and a hot/cold frother at home, so sometimes I make it myself because I like it that much, but theirs is better.

Personal preference: Don't let it sit too long (I time my mobile orders accordingly), and don't get larger than a tall. It works better in those proportions.
  • I don't usually care for the sweet drinks.  I have my coffee or tea black, but sometimes I'll have a chai tea latte.

Training for me today, so work is different.  It's a nice different pace.  Hubby is stressed because there was a positive Covid case in his school that possibly had contact with his students.  We'll see where that goes.

  • @GBCK Google has word doc that is basically almost 100% copied MS Word.  I use it for a lot of stuff now.

Same! I hate coffee so much.
  • @GBCK I used Open Office a lot in the past, it is free and open source.
  • THanks, I think I've finally gotten it to open in google docs, I just don't like it for editing, I'll try open office or libre
