Finally Friday!

Low key, relaxing weekend. Tonight I want to get my car washed, in and out - but I only have $2 in my wallet and going to the bank first to take out tip money sounds exhausting.  After work I have to workout, because I didn’t this morning and really slept in.  Saturday, I have to get a mammogram.  My doc asked me if I wanted them annually and I thought woman over 40 should? But reading up on it, it says women 40-45 have “the choice to” do it annually and 45+ should be every year.  Maybe I’ll skip it next year?
Anyway, M is coming over on Saturday and we’re probably going to check out some ghost equipment at some haunted locations.  My idea of a fun date is probably different than yours....

Re: Friday!

  • It's feeling NICE.

Tonight I think we'll head to the marina and enjoy dinner outside.

Tomorrow we have a packed morning and afternoon as Chiquita has soccer photos, and a game.  I think we are going to have to work a trip out for ice cream too.

DH is tracking it because he ordered it.   We have a spin bike (NOT a Peloton) delivering tomorrow.   I said that I NEED to get better at working out and I won't be joining a gym anytime soon.   Based on some searching this bike and the  Peloton app are going to be my new morning combo and I have to get into this.   Between the sudden death of my mom's sister and my dad's declining health I can't neglect myself.

  • @banana468 your workout motivation definitely hits home for me.  More in the food department, but G is starting to eat more "real" food and Dr. said to just give him what we eat.  I've been thinking about all the things I haven't given him bc it's not really that healthy.  Definitely making me rethink some of our go-to dinners.

My parents are coming this weekend and I am giddy.  We haven't seen them in 6ish weeks and my dad hasn't been to our house since January!  My parents are definitely go-getters, so we're really excited to make progress on some house projects with their help, and also give them lots of time for books and baby smooches!!!

H and I were planning to do an early morning round of golf, but I don't think my butt can handle it (literally, my ass is still super sore from that fall last weekend).  Hopefully we can at least go for a walk or something alone!
  • I ran again last night! I’m still slow and awkward but it’s great getting out again!

Im unnecessarily annoyed with H this morning. He’s been all about a morning schedule since losing his job and even with the baby I’m sticking to it best I can. So this morning he deviates, doesn’t tell me then gets annoyed when I ask what’s going on. He’s great, he does so much around here I know I should be more patient. But it drives me bananas.

Also he keeps stealing my towel and I have to run to the bedroom without one.
  • So glad you get to see your parents @Casadena. Will it just be for the weekend or longer?

Are you getting a peloton @banana468? We’re researching treadmills and I see they have one!
  • @CharmedPam is breast cancer in your family? If so that might be why dr is suggesting it.

I am also glad it's Friday but this morning kinda sucked.
I'm trying to get up earlier so we have more time - thinking about winter with clothes and brushing car off - but M is not a morning person.
He keeps saying I am and I say all the time, I'm not a morning person. I just know if I don't get up and get going, I will just fall back asleep easily.

M & I had 2 conversations about finances. The first was more me being mad it doesn't feel like he's pulling his weight with house stuff. He complains I don't ask and just go ahead and buy, which is true .... but I ask things multiple times and he procrastinates. Like the kitchen stool.
Anyways he's gonna start either ordering himself, or sending me money when I buy stuff.

The other financial convo we had is regard the 2020 dream home.
CHEO {Childrens Hospital of Eastern Ontario} has a lottery every year. M & I decided to buy tix because there really is no losing.
Don't win a prize? Money goes to CHEO
There's not just one prize either, but the grade prize is work 2.8 million
    {side note - benefits of Canada is no capital gains ;) }

    Check it out :)

My mum would move in because there's space but also benefit us because she would likely because BabyKitten's day sitter as she could quit her job :) When the draw is, BabyKitten would be almost 3 so I would set up so my mum could do more of a preschool ideal but I would look into a local preschool too.
  • Enjoy your visit with your parents @Casadena!

Lots of projects getting wrapped up now at work. I'm glad to see them go because I could use the calm.
  • I'm so glad it's Friday. It's still pretty rainy here, but I think it's going to clear off in the afternoon. My parents are coming over tonight to bring the last of the hand-me-down furniture that's going in the guest room, and then we'll go out to a nearby Italian spot that I've been dying to try. They have a lovely patio, but I never wanted to eat pasta on a patio when it was 90 degrees.

My manager has been in a mood for the last few days, so I'm just ready for the day to end so she can leave me alone. I'm kind of angry at her about a thing, but I just want to let it go.

Have you all heard more about the changes at your company? Has there been layoffs?

Nothing yet. We did this whole voluntary thing first. It was a pretty sweet deal for people at the senior director/VP level, so we're getting a lot of news about leadership shaking up this week. It sounds like we'll hear more about layoffs later in the fall, but no news yet.
  • @CharmedPam is the new guy into paranormal stuff too? That's awesome if he is.

@charlotte989875 DH drove me crazy when DS was little(r. He's still little) Like dude, this baby makes his own schedule, and as soon as I get used to it, he changes it again.

We are enjoying our weekend. We spent last night at a hotel to celebrate DH's birthday, DS spent over 3 hours in the pool and at the beach this morning. Tomorrow we are getting massages but also laundry, cleaning, boring stuff.
  • So glad you get to see your parents @Casadena. Will it just be for the weekend or longer?

Are you getting a peloton @banana468? We’re researching treadmills and I see they have one!
We aren't getting a Peloton bike.   In researching them we do see that most people have them LOVE them but they are also very expensive (like just under $2 K for the bike) AND the app is an additional $40 something a month to use.      Since this is somewhat new I'm hesitant laying out so much $.

Instead, we did some searching and see that many opt for a well-rated spin bike that has much of the same mechanics as the Peloton and we'll then buy a tablet holder for a monitor to be held on the bike and I'll use the Pelton app for about $13/mo.   That app will still allow me to use all the workouts but I won't be on a leaderboard.   I think I'm OK with that.   I don't think I need anyone yelling my name to keep up but I do appreciate the yelling encouragement and music.

  • Work has settled down , so its a much easier day today!  I saw a local garden center that is offering fall decorating bundles, so I will take DD later today.  We may also go to the ice cream place that is across the street - so double win!

This weekend will be some more work on the shower door install.  Its installed, but not leveled correctly, so we need to work some more on that.  We invited friends over to watch the Eagles game on Sunday outside, but not sure if it will happen.  The weather looks like it will be good though!
  • *hugs* @MyNameIsNot

I’m glad it’s Friday. What a week. I walked into work and smelled delicious toast and caved into having half a Panera Asiago cheese bagel which is pretty rare for me. It just smelled so good. FI wants to have date night tonight. Hopefully I have enough energy. I have a bottle of wine we bought from wine tasting in the fridge to chill and I’ll have to pick up food on my way home. I still need to do a walk or some sort of a work out. Tomorrow we’re going to the mountains so FI can help his dad finish a fence while FSIL and I do a hike around the lake and then visit with the in-laws.

  • I feel ya on working out @banana468. I've been engaging in more self-destructive behaviors than I care to admit this year and I know that I need to get my shit together.  I'm slowly turning stuff around.

I've had a mammo already @CharmedPam and I'm only 38.  I need to schedule a follow-up to get a second look at my left breast (I skipped it back in May...see being self-destructive above).

Last night we went to our friends son's football game since his team was playing at our HS (he in Jr High).  It was interesting because we sat with his ex-wife and her new H.  I was always cordial with the ex, but trying to be friends with her was something I abandoned pretty early because it was never going to work for me. I am super friendly with his new gf, because we clicked right away.  DH noticed the ex was slightly twitchy about our friendliness with the new gf, heh.

We are thinking about doing a big adults only trip with DH's HS friend group next year. I think that would be pretty sweet if we can work it out.

I had a weird night of sleep. I woke up crying around 1am. And then I had a massive headache when I woke up and my back muscles were sore from yesterday's work out.

This is probably the last gasp of summer this weekend.  We're going to being doing stuff all day for my sister's bday tomorrow (fun stuff). Sunday.  DH may take the kids to see his grandma. I think will be pretty chill/low-key otherwise.  It sucks we can't take the boat out, but we were out a lot this summer.
  • No, no breast cancer history in our family @MissKittyDanger.  He didn't suggest i get one, he just asked if I wanted them every year, which sparked my google search.  Shouldn’t I get them every year? Last year I did one pre op, to get a baseline and it really didn’t hurt but now I’m a bit fearful it will since the surgery.

@banana468, what brand is it?  Everyone who has a peleton tells me to get one for a good workout. I think it’s time to switch my ab machine in my bedroom and get a bike there instead but I HATE the idea of the extra $40/month!

Eta: @missJeanLouise, yup M is also into the paranormal and ghosts and history and all that.  That’s how he started to talk to me (we met on fb dating), “i see your interested in the supernatural” or whatever topic they had to chose from.  He said he could talk hours about that! And he did! As did I!
That’s awesome Pam!! So happy for you that things are going well. You absolutely deserve it!

We started to look up various ratings for bikes and then looked at what other people recommended.   I'm sure Peloton makes a great product.  But right now, while I'm easing into this biting off the cost of a bike that is more than 4 x what this costs is more than we wanted to get into.    The Peloton is tempting and who knows - maybe some day I'll want it.   But right now I'm crossing my fingers that the ratings for this one hold and I don't hate myself too much.   Once I get a few hours in I'll let everyone know if I needed the padded seat and shorts that make me look more like KimK.

Yea! Please tell me how it is.  I’m currently eyeing the boflex c6, which also has a $13/month Memberhsip instead of $40 and so similar to what you were describing I thought that was it!

  • One thing that DH is passionate about and I'm sort of converted is the concept of buying something that also requires you to buy the subscription service with it.    The phone is one of the few things that we do that with and even then he chaps at buying through the carrier and often goes for unlocked so he's not stuck with some subsidy.

  • @CharmedPam I know often they'll want to get a check younger if there is a history, but maybe that is changing in general to be more preventative?
  • I think the current guidelines changed for mammograms to go from every year to not every year starting at 40.   There are some conspiracy theories that it's linked to "Obama Care" because insurance companies don't want to cover it but IMO it's probably more tied to the concept that at 40 if you have no conditions that warrant it and you don't have a family history or BrCA gene then you are getting it as a baseline.

Paps are also the same way.   My understanding is that you should not skip an annual pelvic but an annual pap is not necessary if you do not have a history of abnormal paps and you either have not changed partners.

This is exactly my understanding as well; the recommendations are to now get a baseline at 40 and recheck every other year. It’s early for most breast cancers so you can establish what is normal before the likelihood increases. Same for paps, I think the recommendation is now every 3 years for over 30 same partner, no abnormal pap in the most recent exam.

As someone who used to spin 3x a week, you need them. At least I did. You get used to it after a while, but the first few times on a narrow bike seat is not pleasant on your booty.

I use to do spin classes 3 times a week and wore the padded shorts for years. The padded seats weren't that helpful. I finally got to the point that I didn't need the shorts for spin class but would still wear them riding outside for any distance. DD and SIL just got a Peloton and she loves it but she was also doing spin classes at her gym pre-pandemic. We just got an elliptical this summer which I enjoyed until I had the surgery. I'm really looking forward to getting back to it once I get the dr.'s ok.

My gyn said 3 years of a normal pap then every three years if you have the same partner.

H and I turned in our absentee ballots today! Absolutely no issues. We could have mailed them but decided to take a drive ( I haven't been out of the house in 2 weeks). It was so nice to be out even if it was in a car. H just walked into the election board office and dropped them in the secured box. H is in a risk category for Covid, and I'm not sure I could stand in a long line on election day so we decided on absentee.

DS2 is on his way home for the weekend. It will be nice to have him here. He has decided that if his company is still WFH through the end of the year, he will work from here between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Yesterday neighbors came over for wine and snacks on the porch. It was a good time. We need to take advantage of the good weather while we can. We bought new furniture/decor for our screened porch this year and have really been enjoying it.

    Above is same in Canada.
Mine is a little skewed because right when I was suppose to book, they change from 2-3 yrs so mine got pushed. Then I got pregnant so it was pushed extra 6m to land for my post BabyKitten birth.

Then I had another mild one a few months ago when I got IUD but I really don't need another for awhile AND I AM FUCKING ECSTATIC

Padded shorts!  I didn't know that was a thing!  I simply must get some then.  I have a padded seat for my stationary bike, but it just isn't that helpful.

Between that and only needing a pap smear every 3 years, I have learned so much useful info from these Fri. posts, lol.

I'd suggest opening an Amazon credit card.  It's basically a store card through Synchrony bank, so you can only use it at Amazon.  But you get 5% back on all Amazon purchases.  You even get 5% back on Whole Foods purchases, when you place a grocery order through the Amazon website or app.

Though you can't use the Amazon card directly inside a Whole Foods store.

That's why I'm always disappointed when Chase's bonus category for the quarter is Amazon.  Chase, come on!  I already get 5% back with my Amazon card.  Give me something else, lol.
