Wedding Woes

1st day of the last month of this damn year.

Wow.  I can't believe it's already December.  It feels surreal.

It's cold and dreary here today.  I'm sad we're not getting to fully decorate for Christmas until this weekend.  I may pull out some of my decorations tomorrow to get a jump on things.  I need to find window clings so we can do our two big windows.

We're getting wood delivered today (heh).  DH said he's going to start a fire as soon as he gets home from work.

Oh...anyone else watching The Flight Attendant?  It's trippy af.  We've watched the first two episodes. DH and I are in the middle of three series right now,  that one, The Crown, and Hell on Wheels.

Other than that...SSDD.  Tuesday, blerg.

Re: 1st day of the last month of this damn year.

  • It’s snowing here! I love snow! If it’s going to be cold and dreary it might as well look pretty.

I’m struggling, for no real reason other than I’m exhausted, work is busy, and I feel like people need something from me every minute of everyday. I feel bad complaining because we’re getting so much help and support from family but I’m still exhausted. H going away all weekend and having work be busy was tough.

Maybe it’s just the Tuesday scaries?
  • I'm back working from home for the first time in 2 weeks.  They are just finishing siding our 4 plex.  There will still be pounding next door, but at least it's not on my walls.

Purging and packing is the theme of the month.  I've been going through totes upon totes.  So hard to decide what to keep.  We move on 12/28, so need to make some good progress each weekend.  I'll be at the new house tomorrow afternoon as there are workers coming.  Need to touch base with the HOA president about a few things.  Our mailbox keys don't seem to work and need to figure out when they pick up recycling.  The painter starts this week.  I'll be working with my brother to install the new tall toilets.

We aren't decorating for Christmas but will send cards to send our new address out.

Work is work.  My co-worker is being a pain today.  She doesn't understand how our system integrates with others we use.  Instead of listening when I try to explain, she just shuts down and acts like it's not her issue.  Not good when trying to support our users.  Sigh.

Oh and I have a dentist appointment tonight.

    It's a Tuesday...

  • @CharmedPam I saw your CP order. Pretty! I like neutrals with pop options.
Did you see on the 4th Hello Kitty is doing a collab next? *sly grin* I'm convincing M to do that for my xmas gift

@mrsconn23 I think our next watch is "Queen's Gambit" but we're rewatching "How I Met Your Mother" & "The Ranch"

So I was pretty MIA all weekend. Left early Friday cuz on Thursday night Angel {my 15yr old tuxy boy} had a weird situation. Like he had no control over his back right leg.
    It lasted all of 5min but got him into vet Friday at noon {BK in back going "you okay Angel. Good boy. Good cat" - Basically words of encouragement since he was in carrier beside her}
The leg issue was likely because he was very backed up and it hit the sciatic nerve.
However he's lost a bunch of weigh and was really backed up.
His hind legs have no muscle mass, so basically he cannot squat for long to poop.
2 saline drips, 2 enemas. He's cleared up and they did blood work to check his kidneys, thyroid and diabetes.
    Normal.

However - he could have lymphoma or an inflammation somewhere. Even if we did ultrasound to find out, the answer is same meds. So we're on new meds for him.
    Guhhhh

I was home with BK yesterday because daycare was closed for their renos. Her nap is normally like 1pm, but around 11ish she's snuggled up with me on the couch, then looks at me to say "take nap? peez? Nep?"
She feel asleep so quick, unfortunately it was so early that I had to adjust - she only naps for 2hrs - that at bed time she was a butt.
She gets overtired and it almost jacks her right up :\ So that's fun. Once she went down it was fine at least
  • It's a very Tuesday Tuesday here. I had this knowledge evaluation call this morning that did not go well. This person has been trained several times, and I've spoon fed his supervisor with very specific things to work on. I'm so disappointed that he didn't know any of it, and I'm 90% sure the supervisor is the problem.

It's super cold here too. It got down below freezing and we had some flurries last night. It's a huge change from the 70s that we had last week, but I'm ok with it. We had a fire last night and will probably do another tonight. I'm going to make pot pie with the thanksgiving leftovers.
  • Side note - except for a couple small items, I'm done xmas shopping.
We did mall on Sunday and BK was really good. She's not much for stroller anymore but we weren't sure how busy it'd be.
I got her plaid black tshirt for xmas jammies, M picked up masks for her {we're trying} and I got the 2 mall gifts I needed - plus extra sanitizer because covid.

She wore the mask for about 2mins before taking it off. Which is about a minute and half longer than I expected. I sent one to daycare and we still have 2 at home.

I wish I'd gotten a photo, but she insisted on holding the B&BW bag. She did so well and she loves to help lol
One of us in the kitchen? She's trying to pull her kitchen helper out lol A lot easier after out kitchen is dealt with
  • @mrsconn23 - I really liked Hell On Wheels when it aired on AMC.

I'm watching the latest season of The Crown over my lunch.  Call The Midwife is a favorite of mine too.  Sounds like there will be more seasons coming for that one.  DH and I also liked the Ranch

  • @MyNameIsNot, you and @Jen4948 are the only other WW'ers close enough to have weather similar to me, lol.  Yep, our temps dropped like a stone yesterday also!  It's like Mother Nature was distracted in November and left the thermostat at 72.  Then realized, "Oh, Wut!  Shoot!  It's about to be Dec. Drop it to the 30s/40s."

Ice on my windshield this morning.  And, just like I say every winter and never do, "I need to get an ice scraper."  Lol.

It's been a super busy day at work today, which is actually great.  I enjoy my job a lot more when I have things to do instead of twiddling my thumbs and looking for things to do.

I just pulled the trigger on doing a cash-out refinance for a duplex I bought with cash about four years ago, ie no loan to pay off so all the money will be mine.  Technically.  But I originally bought it all those years ago with money from my HELOC, so I'm planning to take that wad of cash and put it against the HELOC balance.  Pretty much "paying myself back".  I expect my credit score to sky rocket when I do that because it will be a huge improvement to my utilization percentage.  It's just too bad it can't skyrocket NOW.  While I am doing all this refinancing, lol.  I'm using the same loan company who is currently doing the refinancing for my renovated duplexes.  Which is nice because they said they can use a lot of the same paperwork I've already given them and they won't have to do another hard pull on my credit score.

They also updated me that the refinancing for my renovated duplexes is on target and even a little ahead of schedule.  Which is a relief because it's a tight timeline and it's been stressing me out.  Though they don't have the appraisals back yet!  That's annoying.  The appraisal company guaranteed 4 days, which would have been yesterday.

My rental unit where the tenants moved out last month is ready for me to post the rental ad!  I hate delaying that, but I am going to wait until tomorrow, either at lunch or when I get home from work.  I just don't have the time or emotional energy to deal with all the responses today.  And my H can't do any showings until Thurs./Fri. anyway.  When I am replying back to people, it's best to keep the timeline for a showing short.  Like the same day or the next day.  As it is, people only show up about 50% of the time and that percentage gets much worse, the further out the showing is.

  • I’m outside screening, again. Which means my work isn’t getting done, again. We were at least able to get some help today. I’m almost done with Christmas shopping which is a relief. I got FI a pretty big present he’s been dying to have. Unfortunately it’s literally and figuratively big and there’s no way to wrap it, so I’m trying to figure out some budget small gifts to put under the tree so it doesn’t look so sparse. I ended up getting him some boxers and socks so far because apparently those are good gifts when you get older. Lol.

Otherwise SSDD. Going to walk during lunch, then do a workout after work and a walk with FI before hopefully cleaning the house and getting some organizing done. If anyone has any great sugar cookie recipes, hit me with them. I’m down for cookie decorating advice too. Thinking of making some fun sugar cookies this weekend and decorating them with royal icing? But I’ve never done either before so it might end up looking like an episode of Nailed It! If it does I’ll be sure to post some pictures you all can laugh at.

  • @ei34, do you rewrap the same books every year or buy 24 new books? I think this is a great idea. I bought a Christmas book a year for my kids when they were growing up and started reading them to the grandsons this past weekend.

I finished wrapping and placing presents under the tree this afternoon. I also worked out and did my PT exercises this morning. H finally did some maintenance chores around the house today. He has been putting them off for far too long. I am going to make a turkey pot pie for dinner. I don't have enough green beans or carrots so I guess I will be going to the store. Yuck!

I need to start addressing Christmas cards. I think I will put it off until tomorrow though! I will get it done before I head up to Chicago on Sunday. They will need to be mailed before I get back on the 18th.
  • @levioosa I find that I'm not "good" at decorating but many basic designs are easy like dots, tracing and filling in, and for the gingerbread men and women, add socks, scarves, hats.   You can make your own royal icing and a lot of the time I buy the pre-made stuff that keeps forever that's either Betty Crocker or Dunkin Hines in tubes.

Did you guys see Ellen Page has come out as trans* {and non-binary} and now going by Elliot?
  • I LOVE that book idea @ei34! An advent of books!
@MissKittyDanger, did not see that hello kitty.  Oddly enough I’m a darker shadow person.  The mauves didn’t stay on me very long, but I also forgot to prime. Also. /9 sorry to hear about Angel. It’s hard to watch pets get old.  We had an 18 year old cat that was part of the family.
@VarunaTT, so good that your journaling and writing down what you want! You deserve to get what you want in your next relationship.

Last night I had some bad stomach problems and bad cramps. I’m almost positive my (bunless) big mac didn’t help any of it. I slept from 7pm - 9 pm, so, naturally didnt go to bed till 1.  I could NOT wake up this morning and even had no desire to shower.  I put some dry shampoo in my hair and called it a day.  Of course OF COURSE one of my salespeople decided to facetime me today to show me his new house. he’s a sweet guy but c’mon, today was not the day to be on facetime.  I have very thin greasy hair that needs daily washing!

  • @CharmedPam Yeh they just revealed what the set looks like. Not that exciting :( Not gonna lie, I'm sad
    Do you use primer on your eyes prior to shadows? If no, that might be why {look into NYX primer - affordable and good}
Oh and plusalso about Angel is he has a heart murmur. Which brought up unknown trauma feelings - we had a cat who turned 20 in the July and had to be put down in the November like .... 12ish years ago? He had a heart murmur also. I had 18,000 questions for the vet because of that.

I did and welcome to one of the things about the queer community that makes me absolutely furious.  One of my lesbian friends texted me about it and said, "It makes me irrationally sad.  Like lesbians can never just be lesbians".  And I have to wince and educate my own damn community about how to not be a transphobic bigot.  PLENTY of ciswomen lesbians still exist...just b/c this person went on a different journey to find their gender identity (NOT their sexuality), doesn't invalidate anyone else.

    Nicely said, through gritted teeth.

This is also why I just wish we could stop basing our sexuality terms on our gender.
  • @ILoveBeachMusic it’s the same books each year for the most part.  I’ve given some of the baby board books to my sisters, and replaced them with more age-appropriate books. Although not “appropriate” as much as their interest level is changing. So my 13-month-old nephew gets Counting Elves this year and my kids read a story about Christmas traditions around the world.  I can’t wait for Gift of the Magi, A Christmas Carol, etc. when they’re a touch older.

@levioosa major UO but I’m not a sugar cookie fan, so my go-to Christmas cookie decorating recipe is just my choc chip cookie recipe but baked spread in a sheet pan, once cooled I use the Christmas-shaped cookie cutters to make the festive shapes.  While the cookies cool I whisk together 1 cup powdered sugar, about 1 tsp vanilla and 2 Tbs milk...let sit for at least 15 minutes to thicken a bit.  Then I let my kids spread the icing on the choc chip cookie shapes and decorate with sprinkles, gum drops, red and green M&m’s etc.  They..well, they don’t look great, but they taste phenomenal.
  • I decided to do a book countdown this year too! I am just doing 12 days though. I ordered some used books from the bookbundler and through in a few we own.

Oh, see I saw some people who are trans and liking the post.
Tbh I know a guy who is gay {i think? Tbh I feel he's part of bi-erasure} and he's transphobic. His boyfriend posted Elliot's post and his comments *eye roll* unnecessary

The trans community are definitely supporting him, which is great and I'm proud of him for sharing his journey.  It's always the cis-gay community which gets their feels in a bind about it.  I've had a cis gay man tell me that the community was just fine until they decided to add the "T" and that's what was hurting us.  I nicely through gritted teeth attempted to educate him as well.  Transphobia is not limited to hetero-people, it's just more hurtful when it's from within your own community.
  • Got cold here too. Temperature dropped from the 70s and 80s to the 50s and 60s. Sometimes it's really nice out; on a day like today I'm grateful to not have to go out (cloudy; rainy).

If Elliot identifies as male now, then he should be treated as male and not be snarked about.
