The day before the weekend

No work on Monday - at least in theory. In practice, I am going to have to get work done on Monday.

But today I still feel tired. My boss is giving me unrealistic goals. At least I got to point that out in a mandatory annual "retreat" that's absorbing time that I need to dedicate to actual work. I like my work, but there's just so much of it! At least I'm not pinned down the way I would be in tax season with a rigid calendar that doesn't allow for time off when you need it.

I’m tired ya’ll.  And usually working out in the morning revives me. But it has been a long week, anyone else feel it too? I hope to have zoom games tonight.  Usually we don’t know until someone texts “anyone up for games?” Around 7.  Nothing planned for the weekend, maybe M and I will knock out some more Bridgerton episodes but now with all this “NightStalker” controversary, I may want to start that.  Also, I keep forgetting I get Monday off.

I think this is my first full week of work in awhile and I am feeling it.  I'm really glad today is Friday, even if I've been super excited to be here, just b/c I missed people.

There was maybe an inch of snow on the ground this morning and everyone lost their goddamn mind driving to work.

IDK what I'm doing this weekend.  I don't necessarily want to stay home the entire time, but there's so little to do for entertainment.  Also, I just want to see a movie in the movie theatre, so So SO badly.

I have a pretty busy day at work today.  Plus it's timesheet day which is always annoying and time-consuming, lol.  But I'm being fairly productive and just might get out on time or close to it.

The closing for my cash-out refi is next Friday.  It was supposed to be this Friday, but the third party reviewer had a question that caused a delay for a couple days (MEH).  I could close earlier in the week, but then I would have to take time off work which I'd prefer not to do.

My cell phone has been having problems for a while.  Sometimes it charges fine.  But often it says it's "charging", but it isn't.  Or, even worse, the battery is draining fast even while it is plugged into the charger.  My H thinks there is something wrong with the component in the phone that charges.  We're going to take it to a Metro PCS or cell phone repair place today and see what they say.  But I suspect I just need to get a new phone.  Which really PISSES ME OFF, because I just bought this phone about one year ago!

I realize, like so many things in the electronics industry, that companies purposely make items to be trash instead of for longevity.  No!  My cell phone should last for at least a few years and these companies are scum for that.  It's bad enough it rips off consumers.  But, much worse, it's a huge part of the environmental crisis we are in.

Okay ((rant over)).  Other than that, also looking forward to getting extra rest this weekend!  We haven't gone out to eat or gotten pick up for a long time.  I have a hankering!  I'd REALLY like to go out to eat but, with numbers spiking, I know that isn't wise (sigh).  So we'll probably make do with some take-out.

Pam - I burned through the Night Stalker documentary yesterday.  I figured with DD home, and H not a true crime fan, I should just get it all done while DD was upstairs during "naptime".  It was really good.  Was there a controversy?

S+S - Try changing the cable that connects your phone to the charging brick.  They go bad a lot easier.  We were having problems with a charger, did that and now its fine again.

We spoke with DDs doctor last night and they recommend testing at day 5-7.  Day 7 is Monday, so we are testing then, unless she starts showing symptoms in the mean time.  The doctor said H and I are free to go anywhere until DD tests positive.  But we must quarantine for 10 days after DDs full quarantine is up.  So we could be home for almost 24 days!  I will do a big grocery shop this weekend to prepare just in case.

H really wants to get started on attic work for our electrical projects, so that will happen.  We also have to get over to my parents house and change their outside light.  The bulb is burned out and they aren't living there right now, so someone needs to do it.  I will put in an LED, so it can reduce their electricity bill further, since the light is on 24/7.

Quiet Friday here, knock wood. I’m giving my dad a cooking lesson this weekend which should be fun! Right now he’s mostly just able to cook toast. So we are trying out pizza! I’ve got a lot of stuff to tidy around the apartment and there’s figure skating on tonight which I plan to enjoy watching with wine and sushi.
Are you making it from scratch? We do homemade pizza at least once a month and I also make it a lot for parties because then everyone can get what they want.  I usually use store-bought (from Trader Joes) dough, but I tried my hand at making homemade dough for the first time last weekend.  It was really good and pizza IG worthy with how rustic it looked.  Ha.

The 3 AM wake up insomnia hit me again.  It took me forever to feel awake after my alarm but a 20 minute ride on the bike helped.  I still need coffee and will probably head to bed early.

This weekend I have a virtual baby shower Saturday.  At some point I need to clean my house and buy new sneakers for Chiquita who wore a hole in her current pair.  Then I need to motivate myself to go to not just clean but purge.

I'm excited about the long weekend. We're planning to have dinner with my parents tonight. I'm happy about someone else doing the cooking.

Otherwise pretty chill. I got my book for book club from amazon Wednesday. It's a long one. I doubt I'll have time to finish it before our meeting Thursday, but I'm hoping to make a dent enough that I can at least discuss some of it. Beyond that, we'll likely go for a hike and then do a lot of lounging in front of the fire. Maybe bake a loaf of bread. I should probably blow off the driveway, too. It's been a few weeks.

Here's hoping the country doesn't implode in the next few days.

I’m also exhausted. And its still dreary here.

H is going to camp tonight until Sunday. I’m trying not to be annoyed about it but I am. I know it’s only a few weeks/ weekends a year, he loves it, blah blah blah. I’m tired, work is insanely busy and it means I’m on with the baby all weekend.

But at least there is a Bills playoff game tomorrow!! I’m going to need a nap to stay up the whole game but that’s fine!

I was living in So. CA when these crimes were going on.  I was 9-10 years old and remember the news coverage.

Thanks for the suggestion about the cable.  I've tried TWO brand new cables, but that didn't solve the problem either.  We also tried really cleaning out the charging port, but no dice on that either.

@OliveOilsMom yeah lots of articles posted in my true crime groups saying that the documentary is being reported as being to gruesome and even true crimers can’t get through it!

Homemade pizza sounds fun.  And I may actually do this with M this weekend now, as a “date” night thing maybe. Trader Joe’s TTR.  TTR is something I just made up.  I don’t expect you to know it.  It’s to the rescue!  Lol

I usually make my own dough (Mark Bittman’s recipe in the food processor) but I’m starting him on the Trader Joe’s dough!

I’ve read all the books years ago and am rereading: warning, the kindle versions include a second epilogue. Don’t read it! It gives away the later books!

Hi friends! Had to go into the office today for a bit to scan a bunch of documents I'll need to access in a few months as we are presumably going to still be home. Stopped by a new cookie place Crumbl cookies that opened - today was free cookie day and I was shocked that it was not crowded at all. Unfortunately I didn't really care for the cookie - DH didn't either - although I might try another time when there is a specialty one that I want (there's a cinnamon filled with nutella that sounds amazing to me but they do a limited menu that rotates)

Question about Bridgerton: possible Spoiler alert (I haven't read the books but have seen all the episodes). I read the reviews on Amazon and people were all up in arms about a male rape scene. For those of you who have read the books and watched the series, I didn't think the scene on the show was male rape was it really rape in the book? I didn't order the books because there were so many negative reviews due to that particular scene.

Another example of "do your own research"!

A few months ago, my H and I were visiting with one of my tenants about a bunch of stuff she wanted done.  But we all got to chit-chatting and she was talking about how she won't trust any vaccines until they are 1-2 years old because there is no way they can come out this fast and be safe.

I diplomatically pointed out to her that there is a HUGE difference between bringing a totally new drug to market vs. a vaccine that has similarities to proven, safe vaccines that already exist.  But either she didn't understand or didn't agree with that nuance.  So, whatever, that's fine.  I dropped it.

I was talking to her on the phone yesterday and we started chit-chatting again about COVID and this year.  Which brought us to talking about vaccines again.  I had forgotten she'd said she won't take one and I mentioned that I was waiting anxiously for my turn to come up.  She reiterates what she had previously said and told me to "be careful" because, now that people are getting the vaccines, there have been serious and terrible side effects that have been popping up.  Specifically, nerve damage where people become too weak and can barely walk.

I thanked her and said I hadn't heard anything about serious side effects, but I would look into it.  I just did.  No idea what she is talking about, smh.  The closest thing I found is there were four people during (I think) the Pfizer trial who developed Bell's Palsy.  Which does sound like an awful condition, but the vast majority of time it is temporary.  And it affects the muscles of the face only, not someone's ability to walk.

I think I need to go crawl back under a rock.  People have been exhausting me lately, lol.

Hooray for Friday!  I have a weird split shift today because I have to train our midnight shift, so I'm off at 2, then back in again at 9 until 1 in the morning.  Should be a fun day!

My weekend plans are to finish making hubby's anniversary present and then learn how to do this diamond dot painting that I've heard so much about.  I got a cool Dutch scene with windmills and tulips.  And also clean my house because it is filthy.

S+S - One thought in my mind as I watched it, was people there and living through it!  His attacks were so frequent!  I also recall hearing some of the news stories from then, as it became nationwide news.

Pam - I can see how people could find the documentary to be graphic.  He sexually assaulted kids and the details of that were talked about.  They showed crime scene photos and computer generated recreations.  At one point they shows some nude pictures from a potential suspect that was some pretty heavy porn.  Overall, I felt that the level of detail in the documentary and its potential for being graphic is all due to the vicious attacks the Night Stalker did.  They are pretty open about everything he did.

I think the scene in question has some issues, but the scene in the book I didn’t read as rape- it’s quite ambiguous. If anything, the book was to me less problematic than the show which in context (her lack of knowledge and him taking advantage of it) didn’t bother me.

@STARMOON44 that's kind of how I looked at it. She was pretty naive as were most young brides of that era so I didn't see it as rape in that context.
