Wedding Woes

Wednesday

Y'all, IDK if it's my mental health or my age, but I am out of fucks to give and have lost any semblance of patience.  This is long, sorry.  I am working on a training guide for new attorneys for the firm.  I was pretty careful; I don't need to look like I'm telling attorneys how to do their jobs, but I also need to give some guidance on how cases are handled here with paralegals and secretaries and our software.  I create the memo and give it to 2 attorneys here for review.  One I gave it to, J, is someone who is a meddler and I don't care of his professional behavior; he also has a lot of institutional knowledge, so I knew he'd be good for the review.

He does give it back, with good suggestions.  However, he also tells me to have D (my now former managing paralegal and, to apparently quite a few people's chagrin, when she said she didn't want to be in charge of training, the position I'm in was created and I won the position fair and square) review it.

Me:  Why?
J:  Well, she created this.
Me:  No, I did and I requested your suggestions.
J:  I mean she created all of these categories.
Me:  I understand that, but I still don't see why you believe D needs to review my work.
J:  Okay, I was just suggesting it.
Me:  I understand, thank you for the suggestion, I'll take it under consideration (I am not going to do this).

Then...welcome to why I don't like J....he goes back to his office, emails my boss (HR Director) and copies me AND THE OWNER on his email, thanking us for the opportunity and once again stating he believes D should review my work.  My boss, M, calls me and says, "Did you see this?"  I pop into her office and tell her what happened between J and me.  She emailed J and professionally told him D would not be reviewing my work, removing the owner from the email.  Ugh, I don't even understand why J has to meddle like this.  I've already drawn a clear boundary with him before that I reported to HR, not to D, and to stop copying D on issues with me or my work.

Anyway, otherwise SSDD.  Our local indie theatre is still open for movies, with reserved tickets for seats to keep spacing and I might just go see one tonight.  I miss my movie theatre pass and I'm just not willing to pay $20 per movie at home for most things.  My print is on it's way and I'm excited about that.

Re: Wednesday

  • Oh Varuna, that would piss me off so much.  I'm glad you're new boss seems to have your back on this kind of thing, but it's still ridiculous.

Work is starting to get busy for quarter/year-end.  The baby is crabby today and H is busy too.  So it will probably be a long couple days for everyone.  At least its super sunny out again today so hopefully we can squeeze in a walk later this afternoon before it drops to around 0 degrees all weekend.
  • @VarunaTT Urg J sounds like a fucking douche. Did HR email back telling J that what they did was not ok?

Penny - our ging - woke up and chose violence.
We have a box from side tables we haven't built yet still sitting in our room. This is the 2nd day in a row she's decided to scratch at the boxes 10min before our alarm goes off.
    Ffs cat!
I gotta find something to cover them until we can get it built. I know they won't be until MAYBE next weekend.

Tomorrow is my exam and I took Friday off to chill and clean. M is just about done the baby gate - ideally finishing the last piece today and putting together either today or tomorrow.
I'm excited to open up my living room and not have BK just take off to the stairs. She is fast a.f lol

Woohoo!  Nice day off @MissKittyDanger and good luck!
@VarunaTT I hate hate hate when people do that! Cc’ing can be the devil.  So glad your boss has your back.

SSDD for me.  I bought a new comforter (well, same design as the old, but replaced it because of the thin stuffing from over washing and me just happening to spill some stuff on it that wouldn’t get out). So this morning I changed my sheets AND used the new comforter.  I’m hoping my sleep will be GOOD tonight.
Edit to add: i also had a piece of exercise equipment on M’s side of the bed that I permently moved and I know  he hated so if he doesn’t appreciate not tripping over the ab cruncher AND new bedding, I don’t know what he would.

  • Happy birthday’s to both your hubby’s @banana468 and @ei34!  Need a cake tester? I’m over here with a fork just incase...

and yeah I hate the cold bitter winter months - but I also hate the sweltering heat of the summer.

  • good luck on the exam @MissKittyDanger
  • Varuna - I hate office politics!  Glad your HR rep is on your side!

We had more snow again over night and the flurries are still going off and on.  It's annoying!  Just stop!

But DD is back at daycare and H is back at work!  So its just me and my sleepy dogs again!

I've just started WandaVision and its crazy weird!
  • @MissKittyDanger, good luck on your exam!

@VarunaTT, I remember you talking about J from that previous issue.  It seems like it is always someone at every workplace, lol.  I'm glad your direct boss had your back on that.  But it's still upsetting and annoying.

@banana468, on the subject of chasing down payments.  I worked for a tree care company years ago.  We handled the city trees for a few districts.  But, every year like clockwork, the City of NOLA would run out of that budget sometime in Oct./Nov.  I would have to call them multiple times a week trying to chase down the money that was owed to us.  It was always something like, "Your invoice has been processed.  But we are backed up.  I can't tell you when a check will be mailed."  They never admitted they ran out of budget, but we knew that's what happened.  And then in the first few weeks of January, we'd suddenly get check after check from them in the mail, lol.

I am extra tired today.  I have been running myself too ragged and not getting enough sleep.  But I found an extra bottle of allergy pills, so I can push out our Costco trip that was supposed to be tonight, to this weekend.  Such a small thing, but it's a relief.

I absolutely blew up at an Amazon seller yesterday (via e-mail).  Some of the e-mail in capital letters.  A couple 4-letter words that Amazon's system replaced with dots, lol.  I don't usually write unprofessionally like that but, the older I've become, the angrier I get and less tolerant I have become when company's cause me to waste my time because of their abject laziness and incompetence.

I hadn't received a package that I ordered back on Jan. 2nd.  According to the tracking, it's been at the same FedEx facility since Jan. 19th and has a note that the package was damaged.  I called Amazon about it on Monday but, because it wasn't a Prime Order, they needed to get in touch with the vendor.  I told them, at this point, I just want to cancel the order and have my money refunded.  They sent an e-mail on my behalf to the vendor.

The vendor replied back yesterday.  They obviously hadn't even read the simple 4-sentence e-mail that Amazon had sent them.  And told me they wouldn't cancel and refund my order because the package should be arriving on Jan. 10th.  Oh, do you mean the Jan. 10th that happened three weeks ago?  And that was when I sent my scathing e-mail back.  I also called Amazon again to escalate the situation for me, since vendor isn't cooperating and sent me such a ridiculous response back.

I got another e-mail back from the vendor this morning.  Apologizing that it appears my package got lost in shipping and, since they no longer have this item in stock, they will refund my money.  Even their apology was pathetic because it didn't even address how much they screwed up their original response...doing nothing and not even looking into it...to the problem

People and companies make mistakes.  I am understanding about that, even though it is still an inconvenience to me..  But, ffs, when a mistake is made, DO NOT exacerbate that mistake by forcing me to waste my time and have to explain it more than once!

  • @short+sassy my gripes with this client involving their invoice is NOT with their budget.  I will not divulge anything here but I can attest that they are operating at a profit.

HOWEVER - they are a very typical large business so I encounter the following:
-There are parts of our business that are not a standard "cost of widget is X" and instead have costs involved like, "set up of cost to change production line from widget A to widget B" which in their initial quote (that they have and see) is listed as as separate charge and is not part of their line item pricing.   Despite bringing this up IN NOVEMBER they have still not figured out how to get me the PO I need to cover those charges.   We have exchanged emails and had meetings and they cannot figure out who "owns" the responsibility of creating this order for costs my company incurred IN DECEMBER.  They have received what they ordered and have not reimbursed us for all costs yet.

-They do not have a standard AP/AR department in house and instead use a 3rd party company to process their invoices.  Their invoices must match the pricing in order to be processed and their system does not start the payment clock ticking until the invoice is remitted into their system.    Many of the items that my company prints do not have flat pricing and instead have tired pricing (order 4 of this and it's $4 each but order 10 and it goes to $3.50).  Therefore, EVERY INVOICE that involves this print type requires that they adjust the PO.  And there is always some kind of a delay getting them to update the PO exactly as needed.  Product that shipped in December was just fixed this week.  Their system will now show that the invoice is due in 90 days from 2/1 when my employer will show that it was due 90 days from a December date.

My employer is hardly blameless in some of the issues that the customer has.   However I find it almost amusing to listen to complaints about turn time while I try as nicely as possible for my company to be paid on time.

We are in the exact same boat. Exact down to the fact that it’s sunny today and going to be cold again soon.
  • Oh man!  I just got some super bad news.  We have two vehicles.  A convertible MINI Cooper...she's my problem child, but I love her so much.  However, because she can be a problem child and in our real estate business it is sometimes really useful to have a truck, we bought a 2011 Ford Ranger 2 1/2 years ago.

That Ford Ranger had a slow power steering fluid leak over the last few months.  We would top it off every week or two and didn't worry about it.  But it started getting much worse over the last week.  So we took it to Firestone to see what is wrong and how much it would be to fix.

1500 bucks to replace the power steering.  But, worse than that, they said there are a lot of problems with the front end.  To fix everything will be $4,000!!!  That's about what I paid for the truck.  No way are we doing that.  A total shock!  The truck has been running great, except for the power steering thing.

We made an appointment with a local mechanic near our house that has good reviews.  We are going to get a second opinion.  But this is looking a whole lot rougher than we were expecting (sigh).

  • I hope the other mechanic has better news @short+sassy.  Annoying!

has anyone had an IUD before?  I’m still fighting with my insurance but when I told them today my gyn wasnt going to put a claim in until I paid for it first, the insurance provider said it depends on the doctor and that’s not always the case.  But everyone I talk to has had to pay for it first.  Is that true?

  • @CharmedPam 💁🏼‍♀️

I have the Mirena and love it. I have a history of ovarian cysts and a presumptive diagnosis of endometriosis (gyn left it up to me if I wanted to do the full surgery and biopsy and I passed on that). It has helped immensely with the pain and heavy bleeding. I do still have spotting which is a little annoying but I’ll take it over bleeding 20 days a month. The other downside is it seems that progesterone only bc has let my severe PMS/PMDD creep back. It’s not nearly what it was before, but there are still a few days before my period where it gets really hard for a minute and I have to tell myself on repeat the feelings will pass.

As far as insertion, I got mine done at Planned Parenthood. They charged me co-pay only. I’m also in CA so I don’t know if that plays a role. But paying $600 upfront for the IUD and then getting reimbursed? Wtf is that.

I hope everyone on the East Coast is warm, safe and dry.

Because of a work issue, I slept poorly not at all last night and it's catching up with me now. The issue was resolved, but I feel exhausted! I had an overscheduled day.

Happy birthday to the husbands of @banana468 and @ei34.
  • @CharmedPam I've had the Mirena for 4 years. I did have bleeding for 6 weeks after insertion but other than that it's been great.

I'm not sure I understand the insurance question, they're saying you have to pay up front and then you would be reimbursed? That makes no sense, especially when it should be covered at $0 for most insurance plans. Not all plans cover BC, and some can have limits as far as what is $0 but generally an IUD should be covered.

I wonder if your doctor's office has been burned before about someone not having coverage and then not paying so they require upfront cost? You would think/hope that if someone could have a confirmation from insurance that the device is covered under the plan it would be OK to allow with billing on the back end.
  • @CharmedPam, I have mirena and I love it. I had it replaced in December. I didn't have to pay anything up front for the new one. (I did have to pay like $100 toward the ultrasound removal of the old one, that was a whole thing.)

I'm expecting I'll probably get a bill for whatever insurance didn't cover, but so far nothing. I would push back on paying to wait for reimbursement. That sounds odd.
