Wedding Woes

Wait, it’s March?!

Okay, apparently March 1 was yesterday. I’m still in January I think. How’s everyone doi NF today?

I’m good. The baby said “Mom Mom” and looked at me so I’m taking that as his first word. Also as an apology for not sleeping at all Monday night.

We got our first acquisition related request today- I feel a little bad for my team; we told them that this year would be more settled, we’d return to some of the work we put on hold due to the pandemic. But then we announced an acquisition. I don’t think things will get as derailed as they did last year. I hope.

Re: Wait, it’s March?!

  • Yay @mrsconn23 my mom also got her first dose this morning! I go on Friday!!

@ILoveBeachMusic? Are she and the baby doing all right?
  • @charlotte989875 his lack of sleep could have been developmental. But yay words! :)

So M got an email from a linked in recruiter that has peaked his interest.
He isn't job hunting at all, but the good things are just really good, so he's looking into it.
It's more local than his current office, so it'd benefit on gas.

If it's another location I found, it's a 20min walk from our house. So M could walk and once I get my license, I could drive him also.

    Anyways M & I discussed about salary.

M makes X, he would ask for Y - Z but willing to negotiate down to X obv.
M was a little thrown by the fact he could at some point make amount of Z - he said high school M would have laughed. He was not a great student, but he's very good with computers. Had his marks been better, he would have done university.

If he ever makes Z amount, we would have to get more deductibles for him because that would be a new tax bracket.

    It's so crazy.
  • @MyNameIsNot good luck with your interview!!

@charlotte989875 it's amazing how babies just KNOW how to "make amends" like that!!  I'm so glad you got to hear "mom mom", it's so fun.  G smacked me in the face the other day (on purpose...we're working on it) and giggled, then when I redirected he leaned in and gave me a bunch of slobbery kisses and hugs. Hard to be mad when they do something so sweet afterwards :)

My mom got her 2nd shot yesterday and is pretty sick today.  Everyone I know who experienced side effects only lasted one day, so i'm hoping she's feeling better tonight/tomorrow.  My dad is kind of freaked out bc my mom is like, never sick.  I'm glad he's there though.

WFH today and don't have a ton to complete today so H and I are going to take a long lunch and go try out a new mattress.  We definitely want a king size bed and are thinking of a tempurpedic.  Anyone have a mattress that they love?  We're both fans of a firmer feel.

We're inviting BIL/SIL over this weekend for brunch and basketball (our alma maters are playing each other).  I hope they are up for coming over, we haven't talked to them much since they found out her second pregnancy was not viable.  It would be nice to see them and hopefully nice for them to get out of the house a little.

Dad got his first shot today!!  Wahoo!!  FIL has had his first dose too.  They've also opened it up to 55+ in our state.  The only thing is our governor is holding firm on not  making teachers a priority in the next rollout, which is BS.  I also listened to a podcast that talked about how the average age of a Black person is like 28-ish and the average age of a Latinx person is 11, so opening vaccines to older groups instead of looking at the hardest hit populations is not a good look.
They recently opened Louisiana to people 55-64, but ONLY if they also have a medical condition that makes them more vulnerable.  It was opened up at the same time for teachers.

Awww “mom mom” is totally a first word.
so happy for everyone’s P’s getting vaccinated.  Mine want it and I will feel so much better once they do.

My amazon’s subscribe and save was not delivered yesterday because “they couldn’t access my door”.  I came home and there was a twig on my mat.  The only thing I could think of is maybe fire trucks or ambulances  on my street that prevented delivery? But don’t they reroute and come back?  Or is it a “can’t get in on the first attempt, Oh well” kinda thing?  Or is it really a “I don’t feel like working today” kinda thing? Amazon says it’s held for pick up. Great.  This is why I pay $120/year for prime.

The USPS pulled this stunt on an Amazon package I had last year.  There is no impediment to my front door.  I was worried this was code by my mal person for, "I won't deliver your heavy package," though I didn't actually say that to anyone.  I made multiple calls to both Amazon and my local post office as to what was going on.  Didn't make any headway, but my package was delivered the next day.

I didn't mean to get anyone in trouble, but I think I did.  The next Amazon package I had was a light, padded envelope.  I happened to be home when it was "delivered".  I heard a very loud WHACK at my front door.  I look through the door's window and there was no one there, but I saw the mail truck on my street.  I open the door and see the package.  Apparently my mail person had literally thrown the package full force at my front door.  Yeah.  Wow, smh.

  • @MyNameIsNot Good luck!  I hope it goes well and doesn't cause too many nerves!

@Casadena I also much prefer a firmer mattress.  It's been almost six years since I bought mine and I love it, but I forget what it is.  I know we didn't go for the extra cushion on top.  I completely forget what it's called, but it's that extra fluffy thing they put on the top of the mattress and then it makes it harder to find sheets that fit.

It's sunny and bright out today, though cold.  I finally bought my outdoor rabbits a heated water bowl and am very impressed with it.  They are not though, because I put the heater in their pen so that their water wouldn't freeze as fast and now that I have this little gizmo I don't need to turn the heater on.  So they don't get to sit directly underneath the heater and "sun" themselves.  So spoiled.

They have done that at my house too!  I've had some really good delivery guys, but the majority don't ring the bell.  I get not waiting after you ring the bell or knock, but isn't the bare minimum that you let the person know that there is a package there, so that they can grab it before porch pirates come?

  • @short+sassy I think I said it here but can't remember.  Years ago DH tweeted to the USPS the video of our mail carrier saying "Shouldn't fuckin' do it." as she threw the package at our door step.  Disgruntled postal worker?   At least the package wasn't breakable.

Yeah I mean we’re in fools spring, NO snow, all melted.  No way was ice or snow the reason.  My friend had said they said they had attempted delivery too, and she’s been home the entire year - and no one attempts it!  I drove all th way to the post office, but it must be back on the truck again.  Amazon should just stick with their excellent drivers and stop using USPS.

edit to add:  i wanted to kick the twig away, and email them and say “I cleared the path.  You can deliver this now”, but there’s no email system for that and I’m not THAT petty.

M HATES my super soft mattress, and I hate firm ones.  We’ll need the sleep number if things get seriousier. Oh yeah, that’s a word.

I love your rabbit stories!  I thought of you the other day when someone posted a video of dwarf rabbits eating "king cake" on a NOLA subreddit.  Complete with both bunnies wearing little crowns.  It is cuteness overload.  The king cake topping is actually made from flowers and greens.  I found it again on You Tube and here is the link:

  • work has been crazy. My one co-worker has been in and out with medical issues in our three-person department. I am worried about him, he really needs to take better care of himself. I have had a somewhat productive day though. I also got some personal stuff off my list- I  called and made doctors appointments and signed my oldest up for a summer camp through the local parks systems. I am glad I got her a spot! They are only taking 10 kids per class. We did not send her to preschool as planned this year because of the pandemic and she is supposed to start Kindergarten this fall! I feel like this summer camp will be a nice tester for her/us.
  • oh boo @CharmedPam I hate when packages I'm expecting don't show up. Especially if it's for a bogus reason. A few months ago I lucked out though. I ordered a swimsuit on Amazon and it kept getting delayed until finally it gave me the option for a refund. I got my refund and the package ended up showing up like a month later so free swimsuit!
  • Ranting ahead.

Hmmm.  Louisiana's governor (John Bel Edwards) just put us in Phase 3, which is only about one step away from no restrictions.  75% capacity for restaurants and most indoor businesses.  Bars are the exception and still at 25%-50% capacity (depending on parish positivity rates).  Indoor music is allowed again.  Event and concert halls allowed at 50% capacity, but no more than 250 people :open_mouth:

I DON'T LIKE IT OR AGREE!!!  It's too soon, especially with worse variants out there.  Yes, more and more people are getting vaccinated every day, but we are still at least a few months out from vaccines being available for everyone.  And what's the main demographic of people who go to concerts?  People not old enough to get a vaccine.

I suspect and hope that New Orleans will choose not to open things up this wide.  During the pandemic, we have always had stricter rules then the rest of the state.

Masks are still required in public places at least.  Sad I even need to qualify that.  But there are quite a few states out there that have never had a mask mandate.

One of my coworkers said, "Well, hopefully people will be responsible."  Hopefully they will be responsible?  Even though so many already haven't been?  Get real.  (I didn't actually say any of that back to her)

  • I know!  Right?  They've hardly been a hot spot at all.  Oh...wait...

Now, one can at least make a valid argument for the "pros" of opening all businesses back up 100%.  I don't agree, but at least there are strong reasons.  But, to stop the mask mandate?  At the same time?  WTF?!?!

There is no reason to do that right now.  There is no "pro" to dropping the mask mandate.  Except to make whiny ass "but muh freedomz" people and conspiracy theorists happy.

As much as I hate to give any kind of nod to a Trump idea, right about now I wish there was a border wall between TX and Louisiana, lmao.

If that white one had red eyes it would look a lot like my Sinbad!  So cute!  Mine would never keep those crowns on their heads.  And they wouldn't share so nicely.
