Quality of Wedding Dress Fabric

I have a dress on hold that I love on the hanger and on me. My daughter is questioning what kind of fabric it is. The designer website doesn't state the fabric but the bridal shop called the manufacturer. It is reembroidered lace and polyester fabric for just under 2000. Now I'm wondering. I was looking at another dress of alenquon lace and mikado dress which I think is better quality a higher grade fabric.
Interesting that The Knot shows this bridal line on its site with a detail of fabric as satin, tulle, & lace but the designer site does not list any of those fabric qualities. Is polyester good quality?

Polyester isn't known as a luxury fabric but if you didn't mind it when you tried the dress then it doesn't really matter much.
  • Polyester can have some benefits over silk such as being more wrinkle-resistant and less prone to water spots. It also doesn't mean that it's automatically a poor quality fabric. I agree with the PP that if you like the dress, I wouldn't let the fabric content dissuade you from it. Quality of construction would be more important to me.
  • Polyester isn't the luxury fabric that silk is, but it can still be really good quality. It can be more durable than silk because it doesn't deteriorate over time. The most important things are how the fabric looks and feels to you, so if you have a chance to see it in person and like it, then you should be good to go.
  • I have some disappointing news for a lot of brides. 90% of the dresses out there, even the high end designers are all polyester. The poly is the fabric "content", the "type" of fabric (satin, chiffon, crepe, crepe back satin, shantung, etc) is actually the weave/finish of the fabric.  All of those fancy names they give to it dont change that its still polyester.

Im a seamstress (more as a hobby now that a business) and I have handled some WILDLY expensive dresses with the same fancy names....every single one of them were polyester.
