Suggestions on saving my wedding dress for the big day

I got engaged about four months ago and prior to the engagement, my fiance and I agreed on a longer engagement due to me wanting to finish college first. I had been searching for wedding dresses for a while and finally found the dress and purchased it. I was lucky to get the dress when I got it because it was on sale and I couldn't find a dress like it anywhere else. Now that I have the dress, I'm trying to figure out how to keep it in perfect condition. My wedding isn't until 2022 and I don't want my dress to end up yellowing or anything else. Any suggestions on garment bags or anything else I can do?

  • I doubt it would yellow in less than two years (depending on the fabric I guess). To make sure you could take it to a dry cleaner that preserves dresses. You'd have to search your area because they don't all do that.

I remember discussions about this from years ago.  Unless the dress is very light, I remember them saying it is best to lay it flat under a bed or other "safe" floor space.  The concensus seems to be to steer away from garment bags?  You could also ask your local dry cleaners for their professional advice.

  • I would suggest you search on Google. You will find dozens of solutions.
  • Suitable packaging for storing the dress from possible sweating, discoloration

    - cotton cover (dress storage on a hanger)
    - a special archive box (storage of the dress in a horizontal position).

For voluminous dresses, a box is better. Some dresses can deform when stored in a hanger, so they are also best stored horizontally. These are heavy dresses embroidered with beads, rhinestones and other decorative elements, corset dresses, dresses made of fine delicate fabrics, dresses sewn using the technique of oblique cut, dresses with a train.

If you decide to store the dress on a hanger, isolate the dress from the hanger with a special cotton cover that you put on the hanger.
