Yay for Prudie Day

Just love drama that isn’t my own.

Can WW recommend a credit card you really like?  My scores are excellent but I only have three and I’d like another (well credit karma suggested I should). Maybe something with good cash back rewards?  I’m looking at Blue Cash Everyday (Amex) and Chase Freedom Unlimited if anyone has feedback.

same @ei34, my local radio station has people call in for advice and I suspect much/all is MUD but I still listen nonetheless lol.

We have Chase Freedom, my H is not a fan of the credit cards that only give cash back on certain categories, I believe that one just gives a straight percent back on all purchases.

I am working a half-day today because I have my job interview this afternoon. I am nervous and excited! I am going to go home and change before I go because my current office is pretty casual and I didn't want to raise suspicion.

  • @ei34 If you're a big Amazon shopper, I have the Amazon CC and get 5% back on all of my Amazon purchases. Plus it's through Chase, which is nice because I also have the Freedom Unlimited card so it's one site to make my payments and track my spending.
  • @ei34 so credit karma is actually incorrect - they use their site to sell credit cards based on score.
If you want one, great. But it's not necessary. I have 1, M has 1 - we have a l.o.c as back up but right now we're paying it down
  • DH perked up by the end of the day yesterday.  He got fertilizer from our local lawn and garden place and did the whole yard.  We also took a walk after dinner.  He's back at work today.  Wahoo.  LOL

I did make some fire enchiladas for dinner last night.  I think I'm starting to love enchiladas more than tacos.  I literally cannot stop thinking about having them for lunch.

We're having a small cold spell and I'm desperately trying not to turn the heat back on.  I may lose this battle with DH and DefConn.  But it's May, damn it.  Put on socks and sweatshirt and shaddup.

I'm so glad I slept pretty well last night.  I needed some good solid sleep.

    Prudie coming up.

@ei34 I liked this article about how many credit cards to have https://www.nerdwallet.com/article/finance/how-many-credit-cards

FWIW I have an excellent credit score and have 2 credit cards, although only one I actually use. I had another one that I used to earn some good rewards and then cancelled it as I didn't want to pay an annual fee and they didn't waive it.  I have the Chase Southwest card as my main one because I liked earning miles since I travel on SW but I may consider another since I actually liked flying Allegiant earlier this year and would consider them again so my SW miles aren't as important if I don't fly the airline
  • I feel like crud.  It is partly my own fault, b/c I insist on being outside, but dammit, I can't let allergies rule my life.  My eyes are swollen pretty badly, I sound like Marge Simpson's sisters, and doctors be damned, q-tips are going in my ears.  I slept through my alarms this am b/c of a benadryl hangover (I think I turned them off and went back to sleep TBH) and then got a morning text about work pictures.  So screw it, I was late and took the time to be pretty.  Still already planning my next kayak trip.  I have my annual at the beginning of June and will talk to the doctor to see if there might be better options for me out there.

Otherwise, SSDD.  Pretty sleep, at work, don't want to work, but have a lot to do.  I had the CTJ talk with my main boss yesterday b/c HIS boss sent an email to him that passively aggressively said, "What're you actually doing?"
  • I have a Chase Sapphire Reserve and a regular Am Ex.

We also have a Citibank Visa through Costco because of the deep discounts in gas and membership benefits.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve has massive travel rewards which will be good when I have to travel for work again.

Mmmm...and look for good sign-up bonuses also.  I love free money, lol.

Admittedly, I have a lot of credit cards, lol.  Here are some reviews:

Blue Cash Everyday -- Two reasons I love this card.  3% back on groceries!  Who doesn't buy groceries all the time?  The only other card I know that even has a bonus cash back on groceries is Bank of America Cash Rewards, but that is only 2% back.  Blue Amex also has 2% back on gas and 1% back on everything else.

They also have a "Plan It" option for any purchase over either $100 or $200 (forget which).  The Plan It enables you to pay off that purchase over a set period of time for no interest.  Usually 2-3 years.  There is a monthly fee to do that, but the monthly fee works out to be the equivalent of 7.5% interest annually, which is ridiculous cheap for a 'cc.  And the fee is only charged for each month the purchase is on the plan.  They can also be paid off early and the monthly fee stops.  It does raise the monthly minimum payment, because any purchase on a plan is being paid off over a shorter period of time.

If you decide you want to go with this one, I would appreciate it if you would use my referral code:  http://refer.amex.us/JENNIDMVjB?XLINK=MYCP

Here is the special they are offering for new cards:

$100 back after they spend $2,000 in purchases on their new Blue Cash Everyday® Card in their first 6 months of Card Membership. They can also earn 20% back on purchases on Amazon.com made with the Blue Cash Everyday® Card in the first 6 months, up to $150 back. The cash back will be in the form of statement credits.

I'll give my other reviews in a sec.  While I am on the Amex website, I need to make two payments, lol.  I also have a business card with them.  I actually just got a Chase Freedom Unlimited card a couple months ago.

@ei34, I was mistaken.  I got a Chase Ink business credit card a couple months ago.  I've had a Chase Freedom Flex credit card for a long time.  But that is the one that has the 5% rotating categories, though you do get 1% off on all other purchases.  This card also has a "Plan It" feature similar to the Amex one I described.  Except their monthly fees work out to be around the equivalent of 13% annually.  Both that one and the Chase Freedom Unlimited currently have a $200 bonus right now for new cards.  I have a referral code for Chase also, lol.  I have a referral code for them also, lol. https://www.referyourchasecard.com/18f/EH4HB78ETJ

The other card I really like is my BofA Cash Rewards.  They let you choose your own category to get 3% back on.  It stays the same, unless you change it.  I think you can change the category every 30 days, if you want to (something like that).  There are a lot of categories to choose from.  They also have 2% off on groceries and 1% off on everything else.

But the other reason I LOVE this card, is they regularly have offers to get cash back off the card for 0% interest for 12 months.  It's the only card I know of that does something like that for regular members, instead of just new accounts.  Here is how I strategize that.  If I don't have any other credit card debt to transfer it to, I'll have them transfer the money to my bank account.  Yes!  You can literally have them put money in your bank account.  It's a 3% fee, but then no interest for 12 months.  I will then pay down my HELOC (which is an interest rate higher than 3%) that amount of money.  And then, when my special interest rate is about to expire, I pay off the card from my HELOC.  Then 2-3 months later, I'll get another offer for 0% interest for 12 months.  Rinse and repeat, lol.

Last, but not least, I also really like my Citibank card.  I have the Costco one, but I'd think they'd have something similar for their regular cards.  If you have any other 'cc debt, they always have a new member special of 0% interest for 18 months.  I see that all the time for all of their 'ccs, not just the Costco one.  My Costco one also has great bonus reward categories for what I use the most.  4% gas.  3% restaurant and travel.  1% everything else.

All the cards I've mentioned also have no annual fee.

  • I only use cc’s!  And got a ton of them:  to many perhaps. Try nerdwallet com. They lay out all the perks and promos being offered at the time and match you up.  When I got my mommy makeover I took out a new card and earned $500 in free money in the first year I had the discover card because they offered double rewards cash back in 12 months.

I also found out our company will give a gift card out (with a nice sum!) for anyone who shows a vaccination card before June 15th.  Something I did anyway!

man this weather is the pitts.  I’m so drained (rainy and gloomy and cloudy since Monday). I haven’t worked out in 3 weeks.

  • Oh man, there is a hot and heavy rumor flying around right now.  One of our newest staff members was fired b/c she was caught actually smoking marijuana at work.

NOW, management apparently wants to drug test us all.  Oh hell no.  I am a grown ass woman; if you want to test to see if I'm actively under the influence of something at work, fine.  I'm a responsible adult who makes productive choices.  But what I do after 5pm is my time.  Not only that, but half the damn office will probably pop positive, not just me.

Now I'm very motivated to get my medical card.

We will be the last state in the fucking union to allow even medical marijuana.  I also think companies drug testing for it is the dumbest thing.  You can do rails of coke or smoke some meth a few days prior to a drug test and it won't show up.  I'm far more concerned about my co-workers being on meth or coke than a pothead.  (No I'm not excusing this chick smoking pot at work, as that's just stupid. But they can shove their desire to test everyone.)  /soapbox

I think something might have happened at my work also.  I didn't hear any rumors.  But they sent a mass e-mail a couple months ago.  It was a reminder that they do random drug testing.  It also addressed that (major gas company, MGC), who is one of our clients, does not allow anyone to work for them or on one of their projects if that person has ever popped on a drug test (that they would be aware of), even for marijuana.  The e-mail further stated that, while many states are making marijuana legal, that does not matter to MGC.  And the employee would know longer be allowed to work for our company and possibly other companies, if the job was for MGC.

I read through it a few times trying to figure out if they meant actively under the influence at the time of the drug test, or just that it had happened at some point in the recent past.  My impression was "at some point in time", but I'm not sure.

Admittedly, it was also a side-eye from me that they would fire anyone who doesn't pass.  Because not all of us, including me, work on MGC projects.  I've worked here for 8 years and have only worked for one client, that isn't in the oil and gas industry anyway.  That's also the first time I've seen an e-mail like that!  Hence my suspicion there was an incident(s).

It isn't anything I am worried about personally because I do not partake.  But I find it angering as a policy.  Marijuana has medicinal benefits to some people and is not physically addicting.  You cannot say either of those things for alcohol and cigarettes, but those are legal.  It's outrageous to keep people from taking a substance that can be helpful for them.  Especially if it is legal anyway!

Plus the original crusade against marijuana was totally based in racism anyway.

The famous quote by John Ehrlichman (one of Nixon's top aides):

“You want to know what this [war on drugs] was really all about? The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I’m saying?”

“We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.”

This.  We got nothing better to do?
Edit:  we, as in, the general corporations doing these tests.

  • I'm counting down the hours to the weekend. This work project is kicking my ass. I decided to skip the beach trip, so I get to stay home and have the house to myself all day Saturday. I'm going to sleep in and have a netflix marathon.

I'll second the BOA cash rewards card. I think they just changed the name of it, but it's the same thing. You can choose your 3% category. I switched mine to online purchases at the beginning of the pandemic. It's been really nice, because that includes the normal suspects like Amazon, but also stuff like Instacart and Doordash that we didn't really do much before this year. I don't escrow my property tax, so that was a nice chunk of cash back when I used my card to pay that online this year.

I'm "shocked" that honor didn't go to Louisiana, lol.  They did make medical marijuana legal here a couple years ago.  But I'm not sure if there are any dispensaries yet.  The licenses were only given to a handful of companies who then kept hitting "roadblocks" trying to open.  Mmmm...hmmm.

It has at least been decriminalized for personal use quantities.  You'll get a ticket, but no jail time.  Of course though, you can go to jail for not paying a ticket.

Our legislature is considering a bill right now to also make recreational use legal.  It has an over 70% support rating by the general population here.  But our governor is vehemently opposed and is expected to reject it.

    And they're expensive af too!

I know a ton of potheads at my job (including in management) so thankfully, I'll never be tested by them.  I've heard tale of quite a few directors partaking at an off-site party.

DH's cousin has super long hair and when she was a travel nurse, she had a contract that wanted to do a hair test.  She was like, "Um, no.  I'll always be clean on a pee test, but I've had months between contracts from time to time and that's my time."

We need to have better testing for concentration or something.  However, pot is the dumbest thing to hang your hat on regarding whether or not someone is employable.

Related, my dad had some edibles he shared on Saturday and it knocked me on my ass.  DH said I was sprawled on the bed, sawing logs, and he had to tuck me in.  LMAO

I probably wouldn't have gotten more than 2 hours of sleep/night the last 2 months if it wasn't for this.  I mean, yeah, the high is nice, but I sleep so damn well on even 1/4 of an edible gummy.  No weird dreams or other effects either.  The first time I used one to sleep, I woke up the next morning and thought, "My god, is this how other people feel after they sleep?!?!  I've NEVER felt this damn good after sleep!"

Unfortunately, I'd had a bunch of tequila before the edible.  So I was a little hungover on Sunday.  But in the past they've definitely helped out with getting decent rest at night.

However, I go to MI next weekend and plan on picking some up to see if they help with sleep.  DH and I are trying to drink less during the week and that's not helping our sleep cycles. I hope that will help us get over this hump of being restless at night.

I believe it's been mostly decriminalized in Indy.  If you have less than an oz, they'll give you a ticket.  I believe the prosecutor also won't take up some drug cases.  Our state legislature won't take up any of it, so it's moot.  We just got Sunday carryout liquor sales, like, 4 years ago (from noon to 8pm...Our local liquor store closes at 7:45pm on Sundays because they cannot sell past 8pm or else they'll get fined). This state is so very dumb.
  • I'm really grateful that our state has medical marijuana available.   I wish it was decriminalized but we have some border states that have done it so we aren't far off.   It isn't something that DH or I use but I know others that are glad they have it.
  • Just booked my 2nd kayak trip of the spring!!  I'm really excited b/c it's a river I've always wanted to float but haven't, b/c it's almost totally spring fed which means you have to hit it in between enough rain to make it floatable and warm enough to enjoy it b/c it's spring fed.

Also, my new silly problem:  One of my really great friends, N, wants to go floating with me and R, my float buddy, really badly.  I love N, he's an amazing friend, he's been with me through a lot and I cherish the time we do spend together gabbing and cooking.  I absolutely do not want to float with N and I really Really REALLY don't want to float with N and his BF.  You can just tell who will be a good water buddy and who won't after awhile and N has a huge potential to completely ruin my water vibe.  So, I'm asking R what she thinks and we might just have to hide this little detail from N.

I hate interviewing people. I can make a decision when I really don’t like someone or think they’d be good, but if there are a few folks who could work I hate making the decision!
We're doing interviews for the next month, and since I'll be training them if they get hired I get to join the interviews.  The ones that are "maybes" are so tough!

I was so tired today.  I'm ready for the weekend.
