*Firefighters GF/FI/WIFE's* (and others) opinions needed!

Okay, BF is graduating from the Fire Academy next Friday.  I got him the following gifts...

Picture frame with the firefighter maltese

Scrapbook that matches (I'll be doing the scrapping obviously).

What do you guys think of these?

Also, is there anything else that you think would make a great graduation gift?

Thanks in advance for opinions!

First of all congrats to your BF on his graduation!

I think they're great! If DH and I had been together when he graduated from the fire academy I would have gotten him things like this. If your looking for something else though DH has a keychain similar to this one <---clicky.

When BF graduated HS I made him a scrapbook. It was an awesome idea and we had it set out on his table at the graduation party. I think it's an awesome idea.

I like those ideas.  We have a lot of stuff like that at the store I work at.  I don't work tody, or else I would check it out for you.

    Also. Sixth'd. (I think.)

I was trying to tell BF he should be a firefighter but he would rather be a cop.

    Oh well... ;)

I think the underlying reason firefighters are hotter than cops is because cops give tickets and firefighters safe your from fire and other bad stuff.

Also hot. It's the uniform. It's a good think I got out of DC. Lots of uniforms there. And just think Narwhal - your bf has handcuffs.<img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-innocent.gif" border="0" alt="Innocent" title="Innocent" />

I agree firefighters are hot!!! Even though BF and I started dating before he married the FD. I don't know  if your BF drinks any alcohol but most or all of my firefighter friends have a little halogen bottle opener, they think that's pretty neat, because it looks just like a halogen only its like 3 inches long. Anyway, when BF graduated we got him a decorative pick head axe, that had something engraved on it, and I bought him a neat helmet decal and a morning pride helmet (He is also a volunteer firefighters with me so we can use our own helmets when volunteering).

Anyway, congratulations to him! Dating/marrying a firefighter is a different way of life (at least around here it is).

Being in a fire family is a way of life no matter where you're from. It seriously gives you a completely different outlook on life and on those who serve (military, fire, EMT/para, PD). All different language, different traditions, etc. I tried explaining it to my FI the other night and he looked at me like I was speaking Chinese.

It certainly is a way of life. I think it makes it easier for my BF that I am also an EMT/firefighter/rescue diver and I can understand how he feels and the emotional and physical stress of the job. It certainly does give you a different perspective on life. Although, even as a volunteer EMT i have seen as many fatal shootings and stabbings as he has.

You ladies are awesome!   Came back from lunch thinking there would be a couple responses... and BAM!  Thanks for all the reinforcement that my ideas are good ones!

Also, firefighters are very HOT!  BF is getting hotter while in the academy too... no complaints here!! ! :)

I know what you ladies who are with or family of firefighters mean about it being different.  My grandpa was a volunteer for years, my uncle and two cousins are also firefighters (two of whom have recieved 2nd degree burns when a building collapsed w/ them in it).  I've been to many family functions where they were working on holidyas etc.  BF's BIL is a FF/Police officer as well as family friends on both sides.  I think that we both know what we are getting into for the most part.

Sure he could die, but so could any of us at any given time... you can't worry about stuff like that!  And he'll miss some holidays etc. but you can celebrate them on different days.  I know that he has talked about doing this for years and years.  He only got his degree because he had a full ride scholarship to OSU and wasn't going to pass up 4+ years of partying!  Haha!  I am 100% supportive of him in this.  In the last year he got his EMT and now his FF and we are trying to figure out when he should start his paramedic training next.

There a place online called firehouse treasures they have neat stuff. My BF is also an Eagle Scout so he really like the fire stuff with eagles and american flags on it (I got him a maltese cross/american flag decal for his helmet). Paramedic is a tough program, my BF is just finishing that now, he did fire I/II and EMT and then got his bachelors in fire science (his parents insited he had to have some degree) and now on to paramedic. I will be happy when all the schooling is over.

DH is going to start working on getting his paramedic this summer - I wish he had done it sooner but he just didn't want to do it before. Well now he HAS to because the FD changed their requirements so he has 2 years to get it done.

When my BF graduated from the academy I got him a bible with maltese cross and his name on the front.  He LOVED it! It has a great firefighters prayer in the back, and a few other stories and stuff.   Congrats to your BF for graduating!! (and to you supporting him through it, it can be hard at times).

Thats whats happening in CT, you pretty much need to have your paramedic to even get hired anywhere. That and you get paid more as a fire medic. While I am still in grad school for the next 4 years he is going to stay part time at the paid ambulance service he works for as a paramedic for more money. It's usefull.

It's pretty common down here too now - the FD he's with now will hire you as long as you are an EMT but you have to be a paramedic within 2 years or you'll lose your job. He's also working at a ambulance transfer service part-time and he'll get paid more there once he finishes.

Congrats on your BF's graduation, that's awesome.  And a big thank you to him for being a firefighter.  Such a hard job.  Firefighters were the first responders when I was in an accident as a kid and they made me feel very safe so I've always been grateful for that.

Anyway I think those gifts are great.  Maybe take him out to a special dinner as well, if budget allows.

Yeah trying to figure out what to do about a dinner or something.  Next Friday is his graduation date and he is going out afterwards with some of the guys from class to the Reds game that night.  Sunday we are having a cookout at his house to celebrate his graduation and birthday which is on Monday... not a surprise or anything though.  I'd like to have a dinner just him and I so it might have to wait till the following week.  We shall see.
