Halloween Monday!

How did everyone fair last night? How were all the kids?

Requisite Baby M in his costume pic!

Re: Halloween Monday!

  • So cute!!

    Went to my friend's Halloween party Saturday night. It was fun, but by 10:30pm I was exhausted.

    Had a mostly quiet and relaxing Sunday. My building doesn't let TOTers go door to door so they held an outdoor event. Super cute to see all the costumes. Other than that, I cleaned, I baked, I watched TV.

    I finished the newest American Crime Story season on FX. Has anyone seen it? So, so good.
  • I love that, baby M looks so cute!  G was a construction worker but refused to wear his hat - he LOVED trick or treating though.  N was in his carrier that H made into a cement truck.  H and both wore hard hats from work.  We made it all the way around our neighborhood (about a mile loop) - it was so much fun.
  • We had more ToTers than I expected, but they were all pretty early. I spent the afternoon purging and reorganizing my clothes and was knee deep in stuff when the first ones showed up at 5ish. H put the candy bowl outside and helped me get wrapped up, but by the time we got outside to actually hand out candy they were mostly done. I'm disappointed that we didn't get to see many of the costumes, but at least we weren't a dark house.
  • I can't stop eating candy. DS was funny because if he went to a house and they would let him take a # of pieces he'd always say I just want 1. We'd drilled into him just take 1 from the bowls that were left unattended. Probably best since I'll end up eating more of his candy than him, so the less the better
  • BK loved ToT'ing!
    I think preschool helped her understand halloween a bit better. We have a Pete the Cat book about halloween and trick or treating but it's not the same.

    Saturday BK crashed after gymnastics. My stomach was doing funny things so I tried to lie down. I slept maybe 45mins before it was disagreeing with me :\ It settled luckily.
    I woke BK up a tad early because we had to bring her to IL's before M & I had our kitchen appt.
    She had a great time. She helped SFIL decorate the front yard and made cookies.
    M & I ended up going to a buffet because the sushi place wasn't open for eat-in. M wanted asian food {we can't have because sesame} so we did a buffet.
    Phew that was more expensive than anticipated but it was good and we felt safe.

    We ended up sleeping way later than anticipated, so our plans for going to the mall that morning were shot.
    BK was up fairly early at IL's so she wanted a nap. I prepped dinner - which BK didn't entirely eat but I really wasn't sure.
    It's a chip dip - cream cheese, salsa, tomatoes and whatever else. Onions, peppers, olives are stuff I've had on before. Unfortunately we didn't have onions so it was just extra cheese lol

    We swung by BK's old daycare early so we could say hi and visit. It was nice. They made her a little bag just for her, which was super sweet.
    We had enough time to come home, eat and let food digest before people came. M took her out and we waited until we knew some kids were starting. BK was in costumes so it was just boots and coat. It wasn't that cold out so she could keep her coat open. at least

    Here's a couple shots M got.

    Katie on Instagram: “First year trick or treating 🥰”

    She was not happy that she couldn't have smarties for breakfast lol
  • I'm trying to get myself back into making lunches, because I'm also thinking that BK's lunches will have to be made next year too.

    What are some ideas? Do you guys go by a site for ideas?
    Right now I'm thinking of myself but kid lunch ideas would be good {for weekends}

    I’m into soup at the moment! In general I like SkinnyTaste- lots of recipes that are pretty easy to make ahead and have for lunch. I’m also pretty ok with a wrap/turkey/cheese/veggies situation.
  • I was just thinking about making a big batch of soup to take in to work.

    Usually I just do salads for lunch. Super easy to chop up the night before.
  • I am often eating a peanut butter sandwich for lunch.  When that fails I go towards leftovers from last night or soups.

    I have a ham hock in the fridge and plan to make Ina's split pea tomorrow.
  • I'm pretty big into leftovers for lunch, although this time of year I go with soups too.  At least once a week I'll do a whole wheat wrap with TJ's jalapeno cilantro hummus and as many veggies as can fit.  The kids enjoy leftovers and/or soup in their thermoses.  I send them with hard boiled eggs as the "main" 1-2 times a week bc I can't stand the smell so it's nice to not be around when they eat them bc they love them, lol.  They also enjoy "sushi" where I roll a wrap slathered with almond butter around a banana and then cut it into chunks.  They liked that so much that I now make their turkey wraps the same way, though without the banana it's shape isn't quite the same.

    @kvruns incredible photo!
    @mrsconn23 glad the bike arrived!
  • I do default to soups {campbells chunky is great to bring to work!} - right now I leave any leftovers for M since he's home.

    Work I can do pb but I know BK can't do any nut butters {or wow/sun butters} in school for allergy sakes.

    Hmmm ... we have some eggs that I think are going to go bad soon so I may check them and boil them to just "toss" in a lunch
  • @mrsconn23 You went to Loveland Castle!  I was hoping to check that out on a vacation (before Covid ruined that).  It looks amazing - I hope that you had fun!

  • I own a pigeon now - weird weekend.  I don't know what to do with it.  So my dad, who has a softspot for animals, found this wild abandoned pigeon and has been caring for it for a few weeks.  It was still a baby but almost grown, but it took those few weeks for it to fall absolutely in love with my dad.  But where they are isn't great for a bird when the weather gets bad, wheras my rabbits have a winter palace, so now it is my bird.  I'm trying to get it to bond to me and my rabbits, OR find itself a wild bird friend and fly away.  I need to figure out out to get it to exercise more - it does not like leaving the shed.

    It was interesting!!  It's not as big as it seems in pics, but the guy who built it has such a fascinating story.  There's a lot of neat stuff to look at.  People have gotten married there and there are pics of weddings that occurred at the castle.  There's some wild fashion choices. LOL  The gardens are super neat.

    The guys who run the place worked for or knew him.  They all are well-versed from memory the history of the castle.

    This is a weirdly delightful problem.

    Hehe, I bet I would LOVE those wild fashion choices.  I can't wait until I can finally go - maybe next year if all goes well!  We are going to do a tour of a bunch of castles.

    I’m back! I drove to my bro/SIL’s for halloween/TOT.  So mich fun and my newphews couldn’t be cuter. What? I’m biased?!? Me?

    Some of the houses handing out candy were GREAT.  One house on did a scary cemetery scene and a haunted house you had to go through to get to the candy, their yard was all done up - including a few killer clowns (home owners) manning it.  They had animatronics and one “creature girl” as my 4 year old nephew called it, that moved.
    The whole time after going to that house, he would NOT stop talking about it.  Every house after that we went to, he would tell the people “and there’s a haunted house over there with a creature girl and what is that?” He was convinced everyone he talked to had seen the house too.  “Where is it from? Someone has to know!” Seriously the only thing all he could talk about was getting down to the bottom of it.  Every stop. My bro was like “let it go dude!”.  We started at that house and ended at it.  A clown was walking around, and I told my nephew to ask the clown what the creature girl is, since he bought it.
    The killer clown leaned down to talk to him and hear him better. My nephew talked to the killer clown, all up in his face, and was not scared.  But “would never go trick or treating ever again” because he was so scared of the decorations. Kids!

    My other nephew, 3, was a total sweetie. His tiny little legs took him twice as long to get anywhere and after every house he came back from, he’d be smiling ear to ear saying “Grandpa, I said Happy Halloween!” So proud of himself (he did not care about the candy). They were instructed to say “thank you” and “happy halloween”.

    love the costumes @charlotte989875, @missJeanLouise & @kvruns! Your kids are adorbs!

    lunches… you got me…I get them free at work (for the time being) but I also love just bringing my nutrisystem lunches in too. You don’t have to be on plan - you can order a la carte.  Easy for breakfast and lunches on the go!

  • your 4 year old nephew sounds like DS @CharmedPam well OK he would be scared of it, but after that I guarantee he wouldn't shut up about it either and would assume everyone else knew too.  Must be a 4 year old thing
  • @CharmedPam lol BK is 3 and similar to your nephew. She kept saying "happy WEEN!" and pointing out everyone's pumpkins lmao
