Pulled the trigger on a Walmart+ membership!  I've been debating about it for the last 1-2 years (since it started), but it never "quite" seemed worth it for the $98 annual membership.  But I logged into my American Express 'cc account this morning to pay that bill.  I did my usual check of what cash back promos they had available.

Low and behold, they had an offer that if I used this card to buy a Walmart+ membership, I'd get $49 back!  Making the membership half off.  Couldn't resist that!

Funny enough, my Amazon Prime membership expired a few months ago and I kinda haven't missed it.  I'll probably sign up again at some point but if I wait until I really need it, it saves money.

I am so upset with my H.  One of his major failings is he doesn't keep me updated on important issues.  I specifically told him yesterday morning to keep in touch with me when he hears from that deadbeat master tenant.  The one who owes us over $12K and is supposedly going to pay it before her eviction hearings tomorrow.  All day long yesterday, I was on pins and needles waiting to hear what's going on.  Then I'm upset as it gets into the late afternoon because I assume she's flaking on us again.  I call him before I leave work because I wasn't going home right away.

Only to find out that "yes he'd spoken to her".  And that she had wanted to meet him to give him the money.  But, because he was too busy dealing with the new roof at another property...not sure why that mattered, he doesn't have to be there the whole time...that they made arrangements to meet this morning instead.  WTF is wrong with you?!?!  Picking up $12K takes precedence over everything else!!!!  How do you possibly not understand that!  Especially with what a huge flake this woman has been.  Or, he could have called me LIKE HE WAS SUPPOSED TO ANYWAY and given me the opportunity to meet her and get the money.

I think in his mind it's just "everything is cool, because it doesn't matter if she pays us yesterday or today".  Except it DOES matter, because I have been in and will continue to be in, a constant state of stress until that money is in our hands.  Or, even more worrying, if suddenly "something comes up" on her end and she changes her mind and doesn't pay us.  Assuming she does pay us this morning, I know I will calm down a lot.  But I have been so angry with him.

  • oh man @short+sassy that piss me off so much.  My H and I struggle sometimes with having differing priorities like that (not usually 12k extreme...) but it's hard to understand his thought process in those situations.  I hope your tenant doesn't ghost you and you get everything situated in your favor!

    Today is a WFH day and I am pushing "multi-task" to the extreme since we haven't been able to go anywhere for upwards of a month.  I have a ton of stuff to return, stuff around the house to put away and organize and laundry to do while i chip away at some work stuff.  Currently looking at the mess in my living room wondering how on earth a 26 pound almost 2 year old can do such damage in the 30 minutes between breakfast and school.

  • I signed BK up for dance!
    It's across the street so I'm excited for easier commute lol plus if she likes it, it'll be good to get her in for summer camp :) There's a rarity of kids having summer camp options at 4yrs old {just a reminder, BK will be 4 in 6 months!}
    After xmas we'll probably go see if they have anything at the mall for her to wear. She has to wear body suit, tights and ballet slippers. I think only issue we'll have is the ballet slippers - might have to do a specialty store for that.

    I put on some pants today and I'm so uncomfortable. They're too tight :\ Idk if it's just my body has changed over covid. I mean, I did gain some weight but I didn't think that much as my pants are same size but maybe it's the style. Anyways, after xmas we need to go to the mall anyways for new pants. I'm not keeping these :\
  • That would bother me, too, @short+sassy. I know sometimes our partners don't do things the same way we would, but getting that much money should be priority!

    Nothing much interesting here. The window installation continues and it's super dusty again, but hopefully work will wrap up soon. It's supposed to warm up to high 60s today, so hoping to find a chance to spend some time outside this afternoon. I don't like that it gets dark before 6.
  • That would upset me too @short+sassy

    Yay for dance! @MissKittyDanger

    @STARMOON44 how did the interview go?

    Not too much going on over here. I got a migraine at work yesterday and I had almost forgotten how distinctly unpleasant they are. I still feel wiped out today. We are getting an embarrassing amount of packages delivered daily lol. At some point this weekend I need to wrap them.

  • @short+sassy did he end up getting it? I can see why that’s frustrating!
    @missJeanLouise, how scary! Glad he’s OK.  Hopefully no fever tomorrow
    @levioosa, even though I’m an adult and make my own money, I always rush home when I know something will be delivered and my parents could beat me to the house (since retiring they can come whenever).  I just get comments on my spending that I don’t need.  And this is every season, not the justified Christmas one. I have a package being delivered today that was estimated Dec 8-10th from NY & Co….but of course being delivered today, while I’m gone.  I trust it should be there when I come back.  I was smart and sent my Pat McGrath order to work because I knew I wouldn’t be home for that large delivery.

  • SSDD.  Not too much going on besides the grind of daily life.  I'm taking the last week of the year off and I'm counting down the days.  My good friends from Sacramento are coming in to stay with me for a bit that week for the holidays, and then I'm going out of town to see my favorite aunts.  It'll be good for me, both things.

    Work is work.  Grinding away, trying to get back on track. I had a meltdown, b/c management tried of pull me out of my work load yesterday to do something else.  I said Absolutely Not, they tried to argue, and I walked out of the conversation back to my office to work.  I haven't heard anything else at this point.  There is such a disconnect here between what the support staff handles, the attorneys handle, and management should be handling.  It's almost comical, except that it has significant, and difficult, consequences.
  • Ugh @short+sassy I would be so annoyed! 12k is A LOT to be so relaxed about.

    Our Thanksgiving was really good. No body was really drinking which is fine but now we have all this alcohol that idk what to do with. DH quit drinking 2 years ago but I know he still isn't super keen on having it in the house. And I can't drink it for a while still....

    It's National Day here so DH has a 4 day weekend. We were going to potty train DS but then he woke up with a fever this morning. To make matters worse, he then was climbing the dresser in our room and it Fucking Fell On Him. He is okay, thank god. But it has been rough day for him and we postponed potty training until at least tomorrow. FX he wakes up fever free and ready to go.

    I also received a weird text from my mom. I haven't really been talking to her and idk where I want this relationship to go. So I spent some time on the phone talking with my sister about it.

    Tomorrow my local bff is going to stop by and it might be the last time I see her before she moves back to Australia. I am so sad to see her go but it will just make it easier for us to leave when it is time.
    Maybe she needs a leftover bottle of liquor/wine to help with the packing?  Lol.

    Seriously though, I'm sorry for you that the time is almost here for her to go back home.  Might be a good excuse for you and your family to take a vacation in Australia someday!

  • @missJeanLouise oh jeez! Glad he's okay! When we potty trained BK, M found she learned better with undies on. It's not always suggested but we based it on the fact we knew BK didn't like feeling of accidents. Round 1 {summer 2020} did not goes as planned, but round 2 {summer 2021} did much better
  • Work has been busy- good- but busy! Doing some great work that people are excited about. Not much else here. Pretty boring, waiting for stuff I ordered last weekend to ship/ get here.

    It went very well I think! I will be crushed if I don’t get this job but I know I interviewed really well.
  • Anyone diabetic or use to buying for diabetics?
    I ordered these for M's dad and stepmom, she's diabetic and he eats same as her as his health isn't greatest.

  • @CharmedPam, I think he told me "morning", but really meant "today".  Because I know he was back at that rental house all morning for when they finished the roof.  But here is the news that I'm not totally understanding.  She told my husband something like her bank would only let her withdraw $5K, so she has offered to pay that and another $5K tomorrow.  This conversation was in person.  She had the $5K cash and showed him her bank statement/printout, so he could see she has the money.  He gave me the impression they were at my bank and he would be depositing that $5K.

    But here's what I don't get.  I'm assuming she only went to her bank's ATM.  Because I seriously doubt a bank wouldn't give her $12,500 in cash.  They would definitely give her a cashier's check for that, which we told her yesterday was our preference anyway.

    She has always insisted on paying cash for her rent.  I don't know why, I think it's stupid and an extra hassle for her, when there are so many better ways to do it.  But I even warned my H that I did NOT want him accepting that much cash from her, unless they are literally in our bank where it can be immediately deposited.  That's just way too much money to lose if something horrible happened, like he got mugged.

    I told him we can handle this a few ways.  We can accept the $5K now and then get another $5K FIRST THING tomorrow morning.  Because the eviction cases are at 10am.  Even the $5K we got today could (I think) save two units from eviction.  We could also all still go to the eviction hearing, tell them we have come to an agreement, and then the judge would probably enter the evictions...but they wouldn't be processed, unless we went back to the clerk's office on a later date and said she didn't live up to her agreement.

    I've been to eviction hearings a few times and they schedule a bunch of people's all at once.  So I've heard a lot of cases and there are "hallway arrangements" or the judge does the same thing, all the time.  I personally think that's a great way to handle it.  It gives people more time if they need it and the landlord can take the chance (if they want to), because the eviction is already in their back pocket...without another trial or filing fee...that they can use if the tenant doesn't live up to the arrangement that was agreed to in the trial.

    The eviction hearing for just one of the units isn't until Dec. 16th.  We made a mistake on that one and filed it a little later than the others.  So, assuming we have $10K by tomorrow morning, we could leave that one pending anyway, in case she doesn't give us the remaining $2500 on Friday.

    See DH?  This is another reason why it was so stupid to not try collecting this money yesterday.  But at least there has been progress!  Unfortunately, it doesn't get me off the hook from taking time off from work for a couple hours tomorrow morning, which I was also hoping for.  I technically don't have to be there for the eviction hearings, but I feel I need to be, in case they happen.  I can push it to 9:20 and still be able to make it to the courthouse by 10:00.  But I think it's unlikely we'd get the second $5K cash fast enough to save me the trip.

  • On 100% happy news.  This was my big "Cyber Monday" deal!  Southwest is having a sale through tomorrow and it is a legit one.  I just booked our tickets for our Feb. 2022 Hawaii trip!

    This was so funny.  When I chose NOLA to Honolulu, it had a one-way departure price of $219 (cha-ching!).  But then, I was so confused.  For return flights, the entire month just showed "Unavailable".  I even called Southwest customer service to find out the deal on that.  The deal is, that neither they nor the website will automatically map the layover.  Customers need to do that manually!  Like, book the flight to HI.  Then book a separate, multi-city return flight.

    So apparently, you can fly to HI.  But you can't come back, lol.  Now that I'm thinking about it, that actually sounds pretty good!

    I actually wanted to spend a few days with my family in CA anyway, so it all works out.  I'm proud of my bargain hunting prices (per person):

    NOLA-->HI                                                $219
    HI-->Orange County, CA (SNA)                $168
    San Diego-->NOLA                                   $118

    SNA is my preferred airport for CA, so I was excited one of the options coming back from HI was that cheap.  Unfortunately, the same was not true for my flight back to NOLA, so I'm leaving out of SD instead.  Which is at least better than LAX.

    But $505/person (plus taxes/fees) for all the flights to get us back and forth to HI.  Not too shabby!  When I was looking previously a few months ago, I was doing this same multi-city dance and it was more like $750-$900/person and that was on the cheaper end.

    Plus I already got a bargain on the hotel.  It's an ocean-view, one bedroom suite for something like $220/night.

    It's still really spendy, lol.  But $3K (flights/hotel) for a whole week in Honolulu!  With a bonus trip to see my family in CA, included.

    I've had Type I diabetes for 27 years.  I think those look good for people who like chocolate/sweets.  It's 17g of carbs for 4 pieces, but it looks like only 3g are from sugar sources.  For translation "no sugar added" means they didn't add sugar, but there is naturally occurring sugar in foods.  Especially fruit or anything dairy.

    Though sugar-free/no sugar added does not necessarily mean there are fewer calories or less fat, for people who are also concerned about those things.

    There are no sugar-added chocolate covered raisins that I buy on Amazon.  I definitely ration those because raisins (any dried fruit) has a lot of natural sugars.  But the chocolate not having sugar in it. except for a bit of dairy, cuts down on a LOT of the sugar carbs.  I'm not really a sweets person, but I do love those.  They have always been one of my favorite candies and it makes me happy there is a version I can still enjoy in moderation.

    I still remember a one-star review where the guy was ranting because this item was supposed to be sugar-free but the raisins have sugar in them.  Yeah, dude.  What do you think raisins are?  It's like, "I don't like that I bought this raisin product, because it has raisins in it."

    Yeh, I was reading a bit on the site but since I'm not diabetic I'm always hesitant about anything for those with diabetes - I don't want to give something to someone and then they can't have it, regardless what it says. Rations can still be damaging depending.

    I had also meant to add that no sugar-added chocolate doesn't taste quite the same as regular chocolate, but it's pretty close and usually still tastes good.

    I'd think most diabetics would and could eat those, but it's thoughtful either way.  You or M could also ask them when you give them the present, to know for future reference.

    I have a story on that.  In college, I dated "G" for two years.  In fact, I was actually dating him when I was first diagnosed with T1 diabetes.  About 7 months after my diagnosis, we flew to New Jersey to visit his mother.  She had been to Atlantic City a month earlier and had bought me sugar-free taffy as a present.  TBH, I don't really like taffy, sugar in it or not.  But I don't hate it and, over the next year, I ate some of it.  Even though I think taffy is "meh", I was so touched by that present!  I certainly wasn't expecting a present from her.  It wasn't a special occasion and I'd never met her before that trip.  It was just so thoughtful for her to think of me AND remember I had diabetes!
