Wedding Woes

Oh Monday

DS was sick all weekend (no idea if it was a vaccine reaction or a bug...I'd like to think the latter except why were was everyone else fine?) so all the holiday fun was canceled.  No Christmas Cookie Decorating party, no town tree lighting...a bummer but he felt well enough to go to school today, so that's something.  Hoping everyone had enyoyable weekends!

Re: Oh Monday

  • Heeeeeello and welcome back to temps in the 30’s. Why do I live here again?

so tired from the Vegas whirlwind. New dude picked me up, we had dinner but he left early so I should have gotten the sleep I needed?  I don’t know why - I slept through the night at all the Vegas hotels (well, one night I kept on getting woken up by drunks in the hallway), but when I come home - I’m up 1/2 way into the night no matter what I take.  Melatonin has wore off.

2 full work weeks then 3 short weeks thereafter.  Woohoo! Love this time of the year.

sorry DS was sick @ei34, and sorry all that fun was canceled.

  • Pretty low key weekend. I made the dough for gingerbread cut out cookies yesterday. It is best to let it sit in the fridge overnight so I plan on baking those today. I'll take them to Chicago Thursday. DD's birthday is next week so we are going up for the weekend to celebrate a bit early. I'm hosting my December bookclub so I have been planning the meal for that. I'm planning on keeping it pretty simple. The temps have dropped (I know it's December!) so I'm going to be grumpy about it. Why do we live in the midwest!? I actually know the answer - all our kids stayed up here. I'm heading out in a few minutes to have lunch with a friend I have seen for a few months.
  • @ei34 what kinda sick? Likely bug. Sucks everything got canceled :(
At least some stuff can happen another weekend :)

    Decent weekend.
Gymnastics on Saturday was last day, so it was more obstacle course idea - structured but unstructured - so BK just launched her stuff into and off of things because parkor lol
    We joke she's a daredevil.

Sunday we had enough snow, that we dropped BK at MIL and SFIL's place so M could teach me how the car feels in the snow.
    That is scary a.f :\

We've been trying to drop naps but it's not working lol
Afterwards we got home - which would have been end of BK's nap - we just put on Monsters Inc to have quiet time.
10min later, BK is snoring on the couch lol

I let her sleep for half hour to at least take the edge off.

Today the buses were canceled, so BK is home with M. He has a laptop now so he can sit with her on the couch.
He says his coworker is not much help but she cuddles ...

I looked at the Nissan Leaf - even extended timeframe of payments, and they're still $295 bi-weekly!
That's nearly double what I can do without a down payment.
I told M if BK can be on bus and I drive for the first year, that would give me a chance to get a down payment for any vehicle and open up options if that's not doable.
I did math - I can save at least $4k in a year
  • Oh no @ei34! I'm sorry to hear that.  I hope he's feeling better.

On the surface, we had a decent weekend.  I went out with my younger sister on Saturday for her bday and we all went to dad's for dinner.  Yesterday, we were going to watch football and hang out.  The power went out from 2:30-4:30, so we were huddled around DH's phone watching the game.  LOL  DH did start a fire too.  Our friends came for dinner at the last minute and we were up so late watching Succession.

However, DH spent the whole weekend battling sleeplessness and anxiety.  I'm not sure why this whole job transition is hard for him, but he's really struggling.  I'm a worrier (hi, anxiety) and I was really sleepless on Saturday night. I woke up yesterday from a very vivid dream about my mom just completely wrecked.  So I was pretty tired all day.

DH is going to try and sweat it out at the gym today.  I hope it helps him.  I just want him to get decent sleep because it's truly what he needs.
  • @ei34, I'm glad your son is finally feeling better.  But I know that was disappointing to cancel all the fun stuff you all had planned.

Did your STBX officially move out and doesn't still have things he needs to get?  If so and it's allowed in your all's legal agreement, change the locks.  Because he sounds like the kind of guy who'd feel like he could still come over and access the house.

That happened to my ex-b/f's mom.  Her husband (ex's dad) just moved out one day after 27 years of marriage.  But he'd come over and let himself in, whenever he wanted.  Often while she was at work.  She was hoping they would get back together...which he knew and used to manipulate her...so she never changed the locks.

@CharmedPam,. I'm glad you had fun in Vegas!

Costco scanning got done on Friday and that was a good accomplishment, because it was a rough week.  Saturday morning, I drove my H around to the two properties that had plumbing issues to meet the plumber.

For background, we used to have a go-to plumber who was also a good friend.  That friendship ended very badly about a month ago, so now we don't have a plumber and it really, really sucks.  That guy charged $50/hour.  The last-minute plumber who helped us on Saturday charges $185/hour!  He's probably licensed which, quite frankly, we don't need that kind of pedigree but it was an emergency.  We really need to find someone like our friend.  Who is good and experienced, but not licensed, so therefore cheaper.

For one of the houses, he was able to fix the problem quickly.  That was expected.  He even gave us a $30 discount because it was so fast and stacked on top of the other plumbing job that was very close.  That was a $155 bill.

Unfortunately, the other duplex turned out to be the utter nightmare we were expecting.  You all may not remember but, back in August of this year, the sewer line going to one of my duplexes collapsed, on the city side.  Turns out, the main sewer line going down the street had a crack in it.  The city didn't bother fixing the main pipe, but fixed the pipes on my side.  Although I wasn't charged for that part of the service because it's the city side, I did spend about $2K on other plumbing fees and excavating the front yard in order to find the "clean out pipe".

Now the duplex that is next to that one started having the same symptoms on Thursday.  The plumber on Sat. cleaned out the drains for the house (not to be confused with the main clean out drain), but verified the sewer line going to this house has collapsed.  That was $185 bill, but was only a temporary fix to the problem.

My H went back to that house later that day with a crew to start excavating the front yard.  They were at it for 4 hours on Sat. and 3 hours on Sun.  We still haven't found the main clean out pipe, so he's back there this morning.  So that was $500 for the weekend and who knows how much for today.  And we can't even call the city to get started until that clean out pipe is uncovered.

On a couple bright sides, since I was running my H around on Saturday anyway, I drove him to complete our hotel event board gig.  When we do that, I'll stop at Harrahs while he walks about half the route.  I won $150, so at least that paid for the small plumbing job (rueful laugh).  I also got plenty of relaxation at home and caught up on my sleep.  Though I feel bad my H's weekend was so physically draining.  I binge-watched, from start to finish, the whole Nine Perfect Strangers Hulu show.  It was weird and interesting enough, but not great.  It was more like a long movie in a mini-series format, than a tv show.

I also finished watching all the taped shows of Grey's Anatomy I had.  I'd never watched even one episode in my life until earlier this year, but reruns came onto one of my channels so I started taping the series.  They mostly showed it in order and, over this last year, I actually watched the first 14 seasons!  I had stopped taping it because it seemed to start over again after the last episode of 14 (Alex and Jo get married).  Now I'm jonesing for how I can get hold of seasons 15-18 (in order) without having to pay for them, lol.

  • I am glad to be back to work!  I took of Friday because it was Chiquita's birthday and the last 3 days have been busy.  Even Friday night she had soccer and a Girl Scout event so we didn't sing to her until after 9.  Saturday was her party and that afternoon/evening I made the dinner for last night.  Then yesterday we had mass followed by cutting down out tree, decorating and then having my FIL and uncle over to celebrate her birthday.  MIL has felt terrible all week and I'm hoping it's just a slower recovery from an annual sinus infection she gets.

We found out a lot of DH's extended family members have Covid and we hope they are fine.  One is expecting and if she's not vaccinated I'm especially concerned due to how it affects both the mom and baby.

Kiddos get their 2nd shots tonight!!!
  • Had a really nice, relaxing but productive weekend.

Friday I cooked dinner and went to bed early. Saturday I went to see House of Gucci with a friend. I loved it BUT it was a little long for me - almost 3 hours. Sunday I got my grocery shopping done, laundry, meal prepped for the week and then headed upstate. I even got in a few Peloton rides too.

I wasn't going to decorate for Xmas this year (I got rid of my tree, and my decorations are in my brother's basement) but I caved and bought some lights on Amazon to hang in my living room. That will be my project tonight. Wish me well - I have high ceilings and I'm very short..haha.
  • I had a good weekend! Friday I took the day off for no reason and mostly ran errands, but did put up all the Xmas stuff. Saturday we did a quick hike, then a bunch of prep because we hosted our friend group's annual Friendsgiving/Friendsmas party. We decided to do it adult only, so everyone let their hair down a bit and had a blast. I felt the drinks yesterday, though. Yesterday my niece had her first dance recital. I guess for the little ones they don't put them up on the big stage, so they do separate solo performances. It was adorable and lasted for all of 5 minutes.

Nothing much going on today. It's rainy and grey. H wants to go to Miami to see his mom before the end of the year, but he just figured out this weekend is the only one that works, so I'm looking for last minute flights.
  • @MissKittyDanger I know some kids drop naps when they're still in the toddler phase but plenty don't.  My two didn't drop naps until Kindergarten when they were at the upper 4 or 5 yo mark and even then they'd nap on weekends and would need that recovery time.
  • @banana468 Honestly I figured with preschool she'd end up dropping naps unintentionally, but she's kinda like how I was - go go go, then stop. And fall asleep.
We're at the point where if we're home, she'll go for a nap. If not, we aren't rushing it.
Kindergarten here is full day, so that might be a rough transition :\

I'm not sure how it is where you are but my kids were in a daycare that was a preschool AM program and post-lunch they had a nap followed by afternoon play.  They did that until the school started to transition them to be ready for K.    In our state if you are in the daycare/preschool for more than 5 hours you are to be presented with the opportunity to nap.

    BK is preschool mornings.
My mum picks her up at 11:30am

Kinder here idk how it'll be post-covid but before the first week was a mish-mash of part day and full day. Then week 2 is officially full day.
I think kinder 4 here have quiet time/nap in, but kinder 5 does not
Pre-k here isn't in the school board, so there isn't a transition they do. Plus pre-k ends when school ends {June 17th} so it's not easy even if they did :\

Is Kinder 4 for 4 yo kiddos?

The rule about naptime I gave is a state law.  The preschool/daycare I used was private.    In the state, kids are eligible for K if they are going to turn 5 by the end of the calendar year.  In the town, K is a full day and for Sept-Dec the teacher offer a bit of rest time.

Point though is that if your kiddo is not ready to drop a nap she's likely not ready and it's perfectly normal to keep it up.

Shit, I keep forgetting not everyone has 4yr old kinder lol

So here, there's 2 years of kindergarten
    4yr old and 5yr old
    {In Quebec, there is no 4yr old kindergarten}

    They call them Junior Kindergarten {JK} and Senior Kindergarten {SK}

JK is more structured pre-k {more play} and SK is prep for grade 1 - still play based learning.

Is JK a full day?  If so I'm surprised that there's no down time that's managed for the kids.  When my kids started K at upper age 4 or lower age 5 they brought a towel for their 15 min downtime

    Is there one? Probably.
Does BK bring anything? School site says no. Maybe they just do quiet time?
    I'll know more in a few months when I sign BK up for kindergarten {*mind blown*}

I know 5yr old kindergarten they don't but that might be changed since I did co-op with a class. I know they were adjusting things a few years ago.
It might be kinder 4 is nap or quiet time and kinder 5 is quiet reading time.

I saw the Hulu description for that series over the weekend.  I thought it sounded good.  Now that you've recommended it, I'm even more interested.
