Everyone's favorite day

My mom came in yesterday to stay all week and play preschool with G so H and I can work this week.  I'm so thankful.  His 5 day post-exposure test was negative so just hoping we can all stay healthy enough to our immediate families next week for Christmas.

I just finished reading Monday and I'm so sorry for everyone else dealing with COVID stuff right now.  Like Varuna said, it's incredibly frustrating that it seems like the people who have been the most careful are now starting to be infected too. Hope everyone can stay healthy or has mild symptoms if not.   <3

I have to finish a few returns and gift purchases this week and then i'm all set for Christmas.  What's up this week for everyone?

Re: Everyone's favorite day

  • It's kind of my Monday. I took yesterday off for my booster and to work on gift shopping. The booster ended up impacting me more than the first two, but still not terrible. I was tired and sore all afternoon, but woke up fine this morning. Shopping was semi-productive, but it always stresses me out. I still want something else for my sister, but I can't think of anything.

Hoping for a semi-productive work week, or at least a fast one. 8 work days left in 2021 (including today.)

Also feeling bad for everyone dealing with covid BS. It's just so frustrating.
  • Bleh Second Monday. I feel like I'm still trying to catch up on sleep from the weekend. I fell asleep on 9 last night and slept all the way through and I'm still tired.

Took a Peleton ride, and I think I just need to admit that I really hate one of the instructors. I had to take my headphones out more than once because she just doesn't shut up.

SSDD. N is coming over tonight though so I'm looking forward to that. I think we're going to start the Beatles doc.
  • M's cousin stayed at this lodge nearby that has a wolf area. The cabins have massive windows so you can watch them outside.
I said to M that maybe we could look into that in spring. I think BK would love it, and tbh I would love it lol

BK started talking about summer and swimming and the beach last night. M's been dying to get her in the kayak with him, and we're thinking this might be the year. M obv has to get her a life jacket still

Side note, our covid cases are going up :\ Idk if there's a lockdown but sounds like schools might go to remote learning for January. BK's preschool isn't in a school board so idk how that will be. I know they have extra steps come January but we'll see.
    I really hope she isn't off, M can't watch her and I have too much to take home if I wfh {front desk job is not entirely a wfh position}
  • After spending a couple weeks with terrible insomnia, I have been able to sleep the last 2 nights and it feels amazing. DH was a peach and handled all morning duties so I could sleep in this morning. I was up till 2 placing orders for everyone back home, but it's done. (Except for my sister and BIL because I am still waiting on her to finish her wish list 🙄 ).

I had a fairly full day planned for tomorrow but my trainer has a  thing so we rescheduled for Thursday. Now my Wednesday is really a princess day. I am getting a massage at noon, then DH and I are taking DS to a festive afternoon tea. I will have a look at their gingerbread kits while we are there and maybe we will build one.

Thursday I will go to the gym and then either coffee with my friend or brave the mall to finish (start) my Xmas shopping for DH and DS.

Speaking of DH, he is so extra, lol. It is both a bug and a feature. Gift giving is his love language and he also has a mild shopping habit so reigning him in is a fine line. On one hand, please stop buying things. On the other, it brings him so much joy to buy things for people. Like I asked for a dust buster type vacuum for Christmas, so I could clean up small messes with busting out the big vac. DH (who can NOT keep a secret when it comes to presents) get me a dust buster AND a new stick vacuum. Add this to the robot vacuum my friend gave us when she left the country and suddenly we have 4! vacuums. (I will give away our old one eventually) So that's when it works in my favor. But also, today he goes to the hardware store for some bits and bobs. Of course he comes home with a hammock for DS. The thing is, we already own that same hammock. We haven't used it in forever because we don't have a place to hang it here. But he wanted DS to have his own hammock so now we have 2+. He drives me crazy and I love him, lol.
  • Yay for the extra help @Casadena.  Glad it worked out for you.
@climbingsingle, I hear you on the sleep. And sometimes if you sleep more than your usual and you think that should make you alert and refreshed, it does the opposite and backfires and your more groggy.
@MissKittyDanger I would love love love to go to that lodge. I know we have wolf sanctuaries here but not for a hotel stay.  Now, I need to find an American version of that since Canada is to damn expensive to visit! Even with the exchange rate.  At least Winnipeg is.

Tonight is a dinner with coworkers from out of state, but I can’t eat past 8:20 tonight because I have some fasting blood work that needs to be done tomorrow morning so an early dinner is kinda good.

    Has everyone seen this?

  • @climbingsingle I'm curious who it is! There are some instructors that I need in small doses and some are really mood-dependent.  If I think you're going to talk about sparkle and sunshine I may only handle that when I'm feeling it myself.

I grew up 20 minutes from Newtown so today's anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting is one that pulls pretty hard.    I couldn't help but hug Chiquito extra tight before he got on the bus this morning.

I ordered embroidery floss, needles and cashmere spray.  Moths decided that my clothing was going to be Good Eats and I need to get to fixing the holes in some of my favorites.  If any of you have tips I'd love them!
  • All the hugs @banana468 I thought about the anniversary this morning but I know it just hits harder when it's your area.  Glad you were finally able to get some good rest @missJeanLouise
I have a pretty bad headache- the bright lights are killing me, I want to just put my head down in a dark, quiet classroom, lol.
  • Exactly what I mean STARTING at $859/night ($668 american) and that was a random weekday in April I checked. Most weekends were already booked!

But you have no idea how much in my glory I’d be. That place looks amazing.  And something I’d probably want to do in the winter too.  For now, I’ll just have to dream of it.

  • @banana468 it's actually Robin who I used to love! So I feel guilty about it, but she just never stops talking. I noticed it around the time of the marathon, but I feel like it's just gotten worse. Every time I take one of her classes, I never hear more than a second of a song. And then her talking throws me off so much, I feel myself not pushing as hard because I'm focused on being annoyed.

    Weekend vacations aren't cheap :(
    Tbh I think if it was a farm, BK would be more into it. She'd stare out the window at the wolves and beg to pet them or bark at them {3yr olds are great ....}

I was thinking you were talking about Jess King.  I can only handle so much glitter.  I love her and her positive attitude but I usually work out when I'm just barely conscious so I sometimes want a more Jenn Sherman approach but with fewer curse words if I have the kids in the room.

If you can handle her words but not on the bike consider her core workouts.  I've liked them when I have the extra 15.

I don't think I've ever taken Jess King's classes. I mostly stick to Cody, Emma Lovewell, Ally Love and Sam Yo.
    I'll def check that out!

I also like the British couple Leanne Hainsby and Ben Alldis and Bradley Rose.  I'll admit that I can't pick some of the more vocal swearers even if I'd like their routines more because the last thing I want is a 2nd grader to start talking like Cody or Jen Sherman to his teacher.
  • I think because short weeks are coming up in the near future, THIS week feels like the longest one ever!

I have a lot of stuff to do, personally and professionally, but keep putting it off.  Because I don't wanna do any of it, lol.  Yikes, December is going by too fast!

My pet peeve for the day.  T-Mobile, when I "block and report" a spam text message to you, why do you feel it is necessary to send me TWO MORE text messages about it?  It never ceases to amaze me when companies go out of their way to annoy their own customers for no reason.

Oh!  This is crazy also!  I have some loan accounts with Hancock-Whitney.  Who I have already hated with a passion for years.  They have now added a new twist to how much they they want to make life as difficult as they possibly can for their customers.

They've closed all their branches, except for their drive thrus.  It's unreal.  You can no longer walk into their branches, even during normal business hours.  The doors are kept locked.  If you need to open an account or apply for a loan, you can request an appointment to come inside.  But seriously?  Just from a "get new business" perspective, they are purposely turning away a lot of potential customers by being closed.  And majorly pissing off their current customers.

Believe you me, if it was easy to move loans to another bank, I would have done that a long time ago.  As it is, I have had to totally revamp how I do my banking so that I avoid going to this bank as much as possible.  My other banks get almost all my transactions now.

Their reason for this is staff shortage.  Which just makes it even more mindboggling, because it is substantially more efficient and less time consuming for customers to take care of their banking in the branch and not the drive thru.  That's one of the reasons I despise bank drive thru's.  It takes forever and is at least 5 minutes for each car.  The obvious answer was to close the drive thru's but, since they are God awful at almost everything they do, they chose the most difficult and non-sensical path.

Despite all my rants, I'm actually having a pretty good day, lol.

  • Afternoon.  This day is going so slow. I keep looking at the clock and expecting it to be much later.

I am getting my booster tonight. DH is still waiting for his onboarding to be finalized and get the green light to go get his drug test.  We're both feeling antsy.

I bought teacher gift stuff and I need to find it and pull it together so I'm not doing it last second.  I cannot believe winter break is next week.

    SSDD otherwise.
  • @mrsconn23
Yikes, thanks for the reminder about teacher gifts!
  • I am conflicted about teacher gifts this year.

We generally don't do MS teacher gifts because there would be SO many.

This year with Chiquito's teacher quitting at the end of the month I'll be honest: I do not want to give her a gift.  Maybe she has her own list of stuff going on but I find her effort and communication to be lacking and if the gift is given as she's on her way out the door I do not want to reward her.   DS's report card was issued on the 10th and the only comment on it was, "Individual progress for first trimester was discussed during the November conferences." So a month before the term closed she talked to us and that's all she had to say?

Does that make me a spiteful bitch that I don't want to?

  • I wouldn't do it @banana468.  That's some BS.
  • @banana468 not at all. I wouldn't give a gift either.

I can’t stand Jess King but adding Adrian to the yes list.

I like Ally and Sam. Not a huge fan of Cody and haven't tried a class of Emma's.
  • I wish you guys were talking about characters of a TV show I could get into and not class instructors I’ll never join :)

    annoying @short+sassy!
@charlotte989875 glad you and H are negative.  Hope the little one recovers quickly
    @banana468 no gift needer IMO

  • @STARMOON44 what I realized just this weekend is that Jess King's fiancée is a musician who recently gained notoriety for peeing on a man's face during her concert.

@CharmedPam if you're ever interested in just working out I recommend the app.  I don't own the Peloton bike and have no plans to.  But there are tons of workouts on that app including runs, yoga, barre, weights, core, boxing and dancing.

Well, I'm getting what i want, which is not to work for Diva 2 attorney anymore (old timers will remember my stories about Diva 1 in a previous job).  I had been told no, that employees couldn't be drawing lines about who they would or wouldn't work for, etc.  I was trying to decide what I was going to do with that.

Apparently he lost his shit when I said no to something today b/c I had other more important work to do than what he wanted me to do.  That work was absolutely more important and I knew no one would try to gainsay me on it, b/c I'm correct (I don't mean that smugly either, there's no one here except Diva 2 that would disagree with me on that professional assessment).  Two other attorneys, who I had suggested I get more work from b/c our work styles are similar and they specialize in litigation, went in and said, "Hey if it'll help things, we'll take Varuna off his hands".  So, maybe not the best case scenario of how it happened, but sometimes the how doesn't have to matter, right?  And I really like these 2 attorneys, they are definitely the level/style I'm more used to working with.

    Otherwise, SSDD.
In a previous job, we had a very hectic and fast paced project.  I did project support/admin work for it.  It wasn't unusual to have multiple managers come to me who each needed something ASAP.

I found the best tactic was to let them know what was going on and have them prioritize what they wanted me to do  first.

Like, I'd tell Manager B, "Manager A has already given me XYZ urgent job.  It will take me about another hour to finish that, can what you need wait until then?"  The vast majority of the time, they were fine with being 2nd or 3rd in line.  But, if it was truly more urgent, they'd tell me to work on theirs first and they would go let the other manager know.

It worked well because, at least in that way, those managers were reasonable people and didn't "hog" their own priorities.
