Dilemmas, dilemmas Knotties!

I was originally planning to take the last two Thursdays in Dec. off as vacation days, so I could have two 4-day weekends in a row.

However, that was not taking my weekly Costco scanning into consideration, so now I'm not sure if I even want to bother taking those days off because I'd have to be working at Costco anyway.  For those weeks, we can start our scans on Wednesday, but we wouldn't be able to get the whole scan done on Wednesday, unless I left work early.  Which is also a possibility.  Here are the choices:

A)  Don't take any vacation time.  Work my normal Thursdays, they would at least be half days anyway, then go to Costco after work to finish the scanning.

B--Take those two days off for vacation.  Go with my H to finish up the scanning on Thursday.  It would probably be about 2 hours.  Maybe we could incorporate going out to eat for breakfast or lunch, so it's a little more fun.

C)  Leave work 2-3 hours early on Wednesday.  Also take the Thursdays for vacation days.  There would probably still be some scanning left for Thursday, but it would be minor enough that my H could do it by himself.  This is the only option that would give me a TRUE 4-day weekend.  BUT it would involve taking 4-6 extra hours of vacation, which is on top of the 8 hours of vacation I'd already be taking for the Thursdays.

I have plenty of vacation time.  But I'm also going on two big vacations next year that will each be about 10 days long.  I'd still have enough vacation time for all of it with some to spare.  However, next year will be a big hit to my vacation balance.

I'm leaning toward trying out option C next week and see how that goes.  If I can be more on the only leaving 2 hours instead of 3 hours early on Wednesday, that feels like more of an acceptable vacation time hit.

Edit:  When I tried to use a B with a parentheses, it turned it into a smiley face with sunglasses, lol.

Re: Wednesday

  • I picked up 2 body suits for BK yesterday at lunch. I may pick up another set of tights in case, but I had her try it on.

    BIG MISTAKE lmao

20mins she had it on {I just wanted to try on with her shoes also since shoes are hand me downs} and we struggled so hard to get her to take off the outfit lol
    I got her 2 different colour body suits - black and pink. The suit can be whatever colour, but shoes have to be pink and tights are white or pink {ours are white}

I'll post a photo later of her in it later.
Idk about how her hair is suppose to be, so probably first day I'll do pigtails so it's at least off her face. I may get my mum to trim her bangs beforehand also.

    Otherwise not much.
Thursday I'm leaving early because M has an xmas party. I was invited but it's a Thursday - I told him to go and I'll do things solo that night. I did suggest that if he's home past bedtime, we facetime so he can say goodnight.

It's so awesome to be at the office and alone that I am having trouble motivating myself to do the work I need to do.  I organized and made lists and stuff yesterday morning, but i haven't checked very many things off it yet.

H wants to do somethings small for his sisters for Christmas (we usually draw names but no one brought it up this year) but of course he has no ideas and isn't being very helpful about it.  Same with his parents *eye roll*.  I've decided i'll handle it if I see something while i'm out or get a brilliant idea over the weekend, otherwise i'm not worrying about it.

G's classroom is having zoom calls every morning while they're quarantined and it's adorable to see 15 2 year olds showing off their color creations and answering teacher questions and stuff.  Chaotic as hell, obviously, but adorable.
  • @short+sassy I vote C - give yourself extra time off
  • I got my booster last night and I’m on the struggle bus. My arm aches and I’m fully exhausted. I feel like I’m jet-lagged and took a bunch of Benadryl. Tired and foggy af.

I’m just glad I don’t have body aches or any other flu-like symptoms.  I called off for the morning, but DH is harassing me to take the whole day.
  • @short+sassy, I would go with option C and take the extra time. Enjoy a break.

I'm struggling with the booster effects, too. I feel like I took a sleeping pill and no amount of coffee is perking me up. It might be a nap on lunch kind of day.

Nothing much else going on today. I'm hoping my photo cards will show up today so that I can get them addressed during the 800 holiday meeting/townhall/whatevers going on this week.
  • Good luck with the booster effects!

For me it kicked in around hour 12-18 and most effects were gone by hour 36.  I was a sluggish beast Saturday and luckily DH was in charge of the food.
  • I am on the struggle bus this morning. It took me over an hour to get to work, there was ice all over my windshield, the car had issues, and I forgot my lunch. Ugh. I’m feeling spicy today. Trying to decide if we’ll go see the lights downtown tomorrow night. Thank goodness I’m off Friday. I hope FI is in a better mood tonight. He has been in a funk for like a week. Last night someone did a hit and run to our neighbors car and he was upset he didn’t run out and get a picture of the car fast enough.

@climbingsingle as someone who has gone (and camped) to Joshua Tree in June I wouldn’t recommend it. I’m used to 110 degree days and it’s still something else. If you do go, I for sure would not camp and would try to find an Airbnb with air conditioning (make sure to double check that, not all of them do out there 🤯)and be prepared to go early early in the morning for a hike. San Diego is always a blast and is so nice. There’s some great brewery tours there too.

Oh, definitely not camping and definitely looking for an Airbnb that has air. I'm a super early riser so hiking in the early morning hours is perfect for me.

I would have said "fuck it" and stayed home
  • I had insomnia/anxiety over a screw up I made at work.  In the grand scheme of things it's not a big deal but it made me stay up for an hour...and then I had Chinese food for lunch.  So now I want someone to bring me a blanket for my afternoon nap.
  • @climbingsingle, FWIW, I like Big Bear a lot better than Joshua Tree.  But that's more based on I especially love mountain scenery.

@Casadena, I hope G is still okay with his second test!  I'd hate for him to miss out on any of the things he is excited for on his birthday.  The Big Two!

Updated news.  I changed my Mediterranean cruise from April 2022 to June 2022.  The cruise line had a good deal on the flight also...r/t $725 to Barcelona...so I already booked that also.  Some of the nice things about booking my flight through the cruise line is they become responsible for it.  So, if something crazy happens and one of the flights is canceled/delayed to the point where I miss the cruise departure, the cruise line will pay all the transportation to get me to the next port, where I can board the ship.  Or if the cruise is canceled.  Like what has already happened to me 3x, lol.  My airfare will be refunded also.

The first time the cruise was cancelled and I had already independently booked my flight, I had to duke it out with Air France to get my money back.  I ended up having to do a credit card dispute to get my money.  They never responded to the dispute.  But then, about a month after the dispute window had closed and the charge was permanently reversed back to me, they sent me an e-mail that I was only entitled to a credit and not my money back.  LMAO.  Apparently not, Air France.

The reason I changed the dates is I had last re-booked the cruise in April of this year.  But, since then, I'd found a great deal to go to Hawaii/CA in February 2022.  Two months between major trips felt like too short of a time.  Four months still isn't great, but I didn't want to get too much into hurricane season.

Two awesome trips that were booked too close together.  Oh, the terrible problems I must endure, lol.

Bad week this week with health issues.

On Monday I was supposed to get a Covid booster and flu shot, but when I got to the place where I was supposed to get them, "the computers were down" and they couldn't do it. So I went to work, some 30 minutes away. Then I got a call saying "the computers were up" asking me to rush back from my office to have them done. I couldn't leave my office at that point (having asked special permission to take time off to get them) so I declined. I'll have to reschedule them somewhere. @ei34, I'm sorry to hear about your parents. I know the feeling.

Last night I went to pick up some prescription refills...only to discover that the drugstore rejected my refill requests because of a screwup with transferring from my old policy (no longer effective) to my new one (both with United Healthcare - no gap in coverage. I was covered throughout). I leave, go home and spend all night (almost literally) with United Healthcare trying to resolve it and I kept getting put on hold. A manager came on and told me he had managed to get me a "24-hour pharmacy override" that would allow the pharmacy to fill the prescriptions - for this time. By then it was close to midnight.

So I went back this morning and the pharmacy continued to deny my claim, this time because "my birthdate was invalid." I called United Healthcare again from the drugstore. The first agent who took my call told me that the "system was down" and she couldn't help me. The second agent told me that HR at my current job had to fix the problem. Then the pharmacist told me "I had no coverage." I went to work and had online chats with both HR (who told me that my birthdate was correct) and United Healthcare (who told me that the "medical side" had the correct birthdate for me but the "pharmacy side" did not. She promised to correct it and told me that she called the drugstore and fixed it permanently (no more "24 hour overrides.") I don't know yet whether she actually did. I'm not holding my breath.

Aside from that, things have been pretty good. I managed to get some major work done and my office had a nice holiday party last Friday night. Hopefully things will calm down now.

    @short+sassy, I vote for option C.

@mrsconn23, take the day off and recover soon!

@Casadena, in the absence of any other suggestions, small gift cards would do. I hope G is better soon. I'm sorry about Xmas.

@climbingsingle, San Diego sounds like fun. I was there once and would like to go back.

  • sorry it hit you like it did @mrsconn23
@short+sassy, sounds like a good move for that extra protection.  And really, not a huuuuuge delay.  Our crusie was changed (by us) a year later, my aunt was uncomfortable on how things are going.  We got it.
@Jen4948, what a frustrating last few days.  I hope your able to get the booster soon!
@MissKittyDanger how can you stand all that cuteness?

ssdd for me.  I got my flamingo order the other day, and while it ships from china and took 2 months to get here - these are some GOOD quality jeans peeps - I paid about $25/pair for them.  So far, they haven’t lost shape and are so so comfortable.  I don’t even need a belt like I do with most of my jeans. I’m doing a happy dance and will def buy more:
    https://flamingo.shop/store/
they sell more than just denim, but I can only vouch for those. They are true to size.

  • @Jen4948, back in the days before the Affordable Care Act, you typically weren't covered on a pre-existing condition (for a year) if there was more than a 30-day gap in health care coverage.

I switched employers.  They both happened to have the same health insurance.  I went to see my endo and then got a letter in the mail from my insurance company that I needed to provide them with proof of my previous insurance, in order for them to cover the visit.

I called them and explained they were also my previous health insurance, so could they handle this internally.  I tried to explain this 5-6x to the CSR, but all she kept saying was I needed to provide them with proof of insurance from my previous health care company.

I finally gave up and changed my tactic.  I asked, "Okay.  Fine.  How do I get proof of my previous coverage with your company.

Her:  "No!  You need to get that from your PREVIOUS INSURANCE company."

Me:  "Yes, I understand that.  YOU ARE MY PREVIOUS INSURANCE COMPANY.  So what number do I need to call so I can get that proof from, I guess, another department and then send the proof to your department."

Her:  "Oh.  I didn't understand that.  Hang on."  Yeah.  She didn't understand that because she couldn't be bothered to listen to me when I'd said that exact same simple sentence, multiple times.  Thanks for the 20 minutes of pointless aggravation.  But at least she was finally able to activate that I had previous coverage, so my bill was taken care of and I didn't run into that issue anymore.

  • Interesting.  I just got my confirmation for my date change on Norwegian.  In bold letters, it says passengers need to be fully vaccinated at least two weeks out from the departure date.  Sounds great to me!  But I'm surprised the CSR I spoke to didn't mention that because it's a change from the last time I re-booked this cruise.

That's just it. There was no gap in coverage. One policy replaced another at the same company.

That's interesting.  I'm getting periodic emails due to the NYC changes that are implemented as of the 27th.  Now even my kids need to prove they've received at least 1 dose.

Oh yeah!  I saw an internet headline about that recently.  I was a little surprised they moved that fast for this requirement for children.  I feel like the vaccine was just approved for kids 5 and older about a month ago or so.

I think it was the first week of November.  Clinics were announced days later so my kids had their first on the 13th and I know others who got in earlier.   Mine will be considered vaccinated Monday.

Mine were considered fully vaccinated yesterday, since their second dose was 12/1.  10000% here for the NYC requirement and just wish other places would follow suit, I think it'd help with some of the "wait and see" parents.  (Although of course I really wish there was a way to prompt the jack@ss adults refusing!)

Did you see that Kroger is ending paid leave for their unvaccinated employees that test positive for COVID?  I am not sure how that works but assume they must have had sick leave or originally included leave for COVID as part of extended benefits.  Our company already changed the leave policy and essentially if you need time off and you contracted COVID it's out of your PTO.  If that means that you ran out of vacation time in the year, too bad.  I acknowledge that could also affect me as a vaccinated person too but that was also the policy for the flu and other illnesses for which I am ALSO vaccinated.
  • Happy Thursday!

I am finally back in the office, after my work-from-home quarantine. I spent most of yesterday playing catch-up, and work is stupid-busy right now because of all the supply chain issues but I am happy to be back in the office.

My H was home yesterday and today and my dad is supposed to watch the girls tomorrow. I am crossing my fingers all goes well, he has not done the solo thing much and he has a full day with school drop-off and pickup. I have an important work meeting and Christmas lunch-in tomorrow, so I really need to be here.

I really need to write down what we have left to do holiday-wise and make a game-plan, I wasn’t able to run my usual lunch-hour errands. I also received a text from my mil who is still quarantining since my fil now tested positive (asymptomatic thankfully)asking me to finish her Christmas shopping. *Queue panic-mode*
