Wedding Woes

Prudie we're ready

...at least I'm ready for some nonsense that isn't my own.  Holiday Lights at the beach were really nice...last minute decided to bathe them and put jammies on before we left, so when we got home it was literally just brushing teeth and bed.  STBXH came along, some of the things he used to complain about (aka, anything fun I've ever planned for the kids) and didn't complain and he drove, I don't adore driving at night and it's pitch black on the Ocean Parkway until the lights so I guess that was clutch.  When the kids went to bed we had a constructive conversation about Christmas Eve and Christmas and how I'd like the kids to be able to celebrate.  Feeling pretty good about the holidays, hoping he doesn't have a BSC week next week and that what we agreed upon holds.  Wishing everyone a good day!

Re: Prudie we're ready

  • We had crazy weather yesterday - it was 65 degrees!  Then severe thunderstorms. tornadoes in the area and high wind.  I went to bed about 9 pm and woke up to the wind howling and debris hitting the house (leaves and sticks).  I thought it was morning but it was 11:15!  I stayed up a couple of hours.  It's just getting light here now so we'll see what kind of damage there is in the area.  We're good, I think, but will take a walk around later.  Otherwise, SSDD.

  • I'm glad you were able to have that conversation with him! I'm sure that eases your mind somewhat.

I have nothing planned for this weekend and I'm very happy about it. I'm just mentally exhausted already from this week.
  • I'm off tomorrow.  I am planning to work out, run to a local baker (who was also on Foodtastic - a new Disney + show!) for holiday cookies and cocoa bombs. When I get back I need to dive into wrapping to make some kind of dent into the stack.

Saturday I'm hoping to bake at least two batches of biscotti (one goes to FIL) and a panettone (I have a box mix) plus 1-2 of gingerbread (again - a mix!).  I'm questioning what I'll do for other cookies and need to get DH's take.  I do not want weeks of leftover cookies in the house.  I'm starting to feel like extra sugar only weighs my immune system down so by NYD I want us back to our normal stash and not have a 4 cookie dessert Tuesday.

Sunday we are headed to the ILs for our Christmas with them.  BIL basically said, "Hey my ILs are going out of town for Christmas so if you want to spend it with us you're invited."  My MIL seems to be waffling about whether or not she wants to go and if she's excited since it's a definite deviation from what we do every year however I get it.  You also can't tell your son, "We aren't going to your house because we have annual plans," when we live in the same town.
  • It would help if I posted in the right day *facepalm*

    Happy Thursday!

I am finally back in the office, after my work-from-home quarantine. I spent most of yesterday playing catch-up, and work is stupid-busy right now because of all the supply chain issues but I am happy to be back in the office.

My H was home yesterday and today and my dad is supposed to watch the girls tomorrow. I am crossing my fingers all goes well, he has not done the solo thing much and he has a full day with school drop-off and pickup. I have an important work meeting and Christmas lunch-in tomorrow, so I really need to be here.

I really need to write down what we have left to do holiday-wise and make a game-plan, I wasn’t able to run my usual lunch-hour errands. I also received a text from my mil who is still quarantining since my fil now tested positive (asymptomatic thankfully)asking me to finish her Christmas shopping. *Queue panic-mode*

  • Still in isolation, baby M about the same but thankfully no worse. I now have a sore throat and congestion. I took an at home test that was inconclusive so I’ll test again later. This sucks. Really ready for some Prudie!
  • Gman had another negative COVID test yesterday, thank goodness. He is still feeling crappy and has a fever, so hoping he starts to feel better soon.  N is still the happiest baby ever and seems to be feeling fine!

My MIL is driving me nuts.  It's probably not totally fair criticism/annoyance and I know I'm not shutting some things down like I could (you reeeeally have to pick your battles with her) so i won't fully vent but just UGH.

I'm listening to the Holly Madison episode of the Power: Hugh Hefner podcast.  The interviewer is super annoying, but I loved "girls Next Door" in college and it's so sad to hear the real behind the scenes. Definitely recommend if you were ever interested in that show/etc.
  • Ready for Prudie!

Glad you had a good, constructive, conversation @ei34

I went out today to do some last minute stocking stuffer shopping and mostly just found stuff for myself. 😂😂

I am so stoked because my bff since 8th grade is going to come out to help when I have the baby. Wellllll.... She got the time off work, lol. There are a lot of steps that have to happen before she actually arrives.
  • Our office closed early yesterday due to shitty weather.
I didn't have to, but my boss has access to the phones/emails at home, so she watched them.
Which means I got to chill with BK at my mum's.

BK is very much obsessed with her new dance outfit. I learned last night she can do her tights solo and really just needs me to do the arm straps for the body suit.

Tonight is M's xmas party, so I'm leaving work early. Idk what BK & I will do for dinner. I'll see what we have. Default is always pasta but I really don't want to make any.
If it wasn't so terrible weather {slushy, wet, etc} I would just tell M to drop us off at the grocery store and we'd walk home. But knowing BK, it would take too long and I don't have even the option of a stroller.

Discovered this morning that BK knows how to drop her coat and put it on solo. I've been dropping her coat {she puts it on upside down} and she just puts it on.
This really makes mornings easier, especially since BK doesn't need to zip her coat right away because we remove it in the car.

I'll probably kill some time and give BK a bath before bed. M likely won't be home until after she's asleep anyways. He said he'll try to facetime before she goes to bed.
  • @ei34, I'm glad the Holiday Lights at the beach went so well and you had a constructive conversation with your STBXH.

I thought of you the other day.  One of the local Italian restaurants was having a Feast of the Seven Fishes meal today and next Wed.  I first heard of that kind of event from you.  However, since I don't have the cooking chops that you do lol, I was super excited to finally get to experience this at a restaurant.  Except they were already sold out for both Wednesdays, when I called for reservations.  Whomp-whomp.  I'm going to try and remember this restaurant for next year and make reservations sooner.

@MNNEBride, I hope you all don't have any damage from the storm.

It was an unexpected whirlwind at work this morning.  There was already something very urgent to take care of in my e-mail.  It didn't take me nearly as long as I thought it would to complete, so I was glad about that.  I felt productive.  For once, lol.  Then, on an unrelated matter, I had an upper management client employee call me.  Then the big, big client boss visited my cube which is a very rare event.  He's a really intimidating person, but I feel like I answered his questions intelligently and didn't make a complete fool of myself, so bonus points there, lol.

  • I'm back to work today, but I'm still tired.  My arm also aches a little and feels oddly heavy, which is weird.  SIL/BFF got her booster yesterday and is worse off that I was, poor thing.

It's dark and rainy out today.  We have a scouts meeting tonight.

SSDD.  I'm so glad we don't have plans this weekend.  I'll have downtime to sleep, wrap, plan Christmas Eve dinner, etc. I'm also hoping to get any last minute shopping done. We each need to take DefConn out to shop for the other from him.

    Prudie coming up.
  • @ei34 lights on the beach sounds amazing and I’m glad you got to go! And even had a decent night with stbx.
@Casadena yes the stuff coming out of Hef’s life is sickening but also - why am I surprised? I’m glad they ALL got out.  I like Holly, Bridget and Kendra. Kendra’s “selling real estate” right now. The show is boring.

I last minute bought some cocoa mugs for gifts for my work group yesterday - and I’m just praying that they come this weekend (says delivery anywhere by 17th-28th) because a lot of people are off after the 20th and it’s Christmas themed. I’m banking on the earlier rather than the latter. I need some “deliver out today” vibes stat.

I agree that everything coming out should NOT be a surprise.  Even thought there's so much work to do in society around internalized misogyny and understand the power at play in "relationships" like that, it's amazing to see how far we've come in recognizing that situations like Holly/Bridget/Kendra with Hef are suuuper toxic and abusive.

The episode with Jennifer Saginor (Hefner's physicians daughter who literally grew up at the mansion) is also really sad and informative.
  • NYC's mask mandate that went back into effect this week was confusing to me. I thought you already had to show proof of being vaccinated for restaurants, venues, etc? So is this just now applying to stores and whatnot? I don't know. I'm going to a concert on NYE and while I will be obviously showing my vaccine card, I'm wondering if we'll be masked up too?
Also it's funny that in NY, everyone is masked up. And then in NJ, I feel like I'm the only one.

Our mask mandate hasn't dropped and we have to do both for many places plus contact tracing.

Wasn't it a NYS vs NYC mandate?

I opted to mask for a concert in CT last month simply because I felt better about viral spread.

Oh maybe? It's possible I got them confused..haha.

Yeah, I'm thinking of masking up at MSG just to be safe.
  • It's weird many states dropped mask mandates and just keep bringing them up. Where I am they haven't dropped them even though cases went down {currently on a hike though :\ }

Same. We have had a mask mandate for public spaces since March 2020 and it has never dropped even though we have a low rate of cases. It will be the last thing to go away because it is the easiest thing to do. With omnicron happening and them wanting to keep tourism up, it just makes sense.
  • IL was always a state (when there were only 6 that had them) that had mask mandates. So nothing new for us. It’s weird going into a state that didn’t have them!

also, I wonder if it’s a winter thing - mask mandates when it gets colder, off late spring?

I think it's CA that never dropped them and there's a greater buy-in of compliance.

It was NYS- counties were making their own call (ours reimplemented like a month ago because of rising cases) but the Governor just put state wide back into effect.

Mmmm...well.  There are some states who have NEVER had a mask mandate.  At all.  At any time, ever.  So then there's that, smh.

But many other...not just states, but specific cities...have had the mask mandate dropped, brought back, dropped again, brought back again, etc.

With other variations of vaccine mandates for some cities at some venues.

Edited to add:  I don't think there are any states that have required a vaccine mandate for the general population at specific types of venues.  I think the vaccine mandates for some venues are only specific cities.  But I'm not 100% about that.

NYC (not the state) it's general population at various venues like theaters and restaurants.

I think California also has a requirement as well and that may be for even grocery shopping.
  • Oh no, hope the mugs come soon @CharmedPam!  Yay for finding fun stuff for yourself @missJeanLouise Oh no, sorry that the reservations were all gone @short+sassy.  Some Italian restaurants here do those too.

Yep. I think we did have one in the very beginning, but we certainly haven't had a state-wide mandate at all in 2021. I hate humans sometimes.
  • @ei34 glad you at STBX had a constructive conversation. FX that your order arrives @CharmedPam

I'm hosting my book club Christmas party tonight. We are all a bit concerned about about being together because we all either have grandchildren who aren't vaccinated or family members that are at risk. We will be masked except when eating. I've got the lasagna made, pound cake baked, salad dressing made and main floor all cleaned. I'll do the salad and bread a bit later. H smoked a salmon for an appetizer. Husbands don't attend but he is always willing to cook something for us.  Tomorrow I plan to start cookie baking and finish up wrapping a couple of last minute presents. We are going to DS2's on Saturday so we can go to a Christmas village display near him.
