MLK Monday

Where is everyone? Happy MLK day and happy Monday.  I’m off today, and back from Michigan.  Everything was so surreal. It sucked that I had to do this surgery on my own (always had ex H with me) but very happy that I found a great nurse at the recovery house.  I was here and read the boards, but just tuckered out. Hope everyone is doing well.
@misskittydanger, BK still can’t go to school? My neices can (out just a week) but they were given covid tests and have to test before going back in school, daily.  They were each given 5 tests.  Poor girls. Swabbing every morning.

Re: MLK Monday

  • Kids are off today.  I think if school was in session it would have been cancelled due to the way the storm is hitting.  We have zero rain but a lot of the streets by the water are flooded and there are some power lines down in town.

Our metal carport blew off my minivan at 5:40.  DH is going to need to move it when he gets home and see if it's badly damaged or if we can salvage.  The kids looked over my car and it seems to be OK.
  • I'm here and at work. It's so slow, I may fall asleep at my desk.

Had a very nice and relaxing weekend. I did end up going bowling with my friends Friday (had time for a power nap) and I'm so glad I did. It was good to see them.

Saturday was freezing cold so I mostly stayed inside. Cleaned my apartment from top to bottom, got caught up on laundry, watched (and finished) season 2 of Cheer.

Sundays I usually go upstate to N's but his area was calling for 6+ inches of snow last night. I decided to stay home and I'll see him tomorrow. So I had another relaxing day of just cooking and watching TV and cleaning.

Forced myself to get up early and do a Peleton ride this morning. So glad I did. I'm tired but it was worth it.
  • Also note to parents: it'll keep your kid's attention for a while to turn un-decorating the Christmas tree into a match game if you keep your ornaments in boxes.  Chiquito ran around the tree finding ornaments so we could get the decorations packed away.  It was a good activity Saturday while it was SO COLD.

  • We have about 1.5 feet of snow and more coming! I tried to take baby M out but he was not having it. How did you get your kids to like playing in the snow?

I’m off today but H is working upstairs. Baby M is napping and I’m watching Downtown Abbey.

The Bills win Saturday was outstanding and I’m still pretty jazzed!

    Cute cute!

FWIW, my kids had to get to at least 3ish to like playing in the snow.  Even then
    -No wind
-Short enough they can walk in it
-Sledding is a good start if they can be in your lap.

  • Morning, folx.  I am getting pretty irritable just sitting at home, but I know it's for my own health  I still have the danged cough and I'm struggling with sleep vs fatigue.  The prednisone drops today though, so I'm hoping that'll hep get me back on track. Trying to figure out if I'm sleeping because my body needs it or if it's medicine is hard.  I'm also losing all sense of time because of how the sleeping is going.  And probably because i haven't seen anything but artificial light and the interior of my apartment since Sunday January 9th.  I'm not sure I'll be ready for work on Thursday if I can't get some solid sleep under my belt, without fatigue/drowsiness still lingering.  I have promised everyone, and I'll include this board b/c I know how we are, I will not push myself if I'm not ready.  Technically  my note keeps me off until next Tuesday.  I will be absolutely feral by then.

Weirdly, this time off has been good for me mentally.  I told someone it was going to end up being my own spiritual journey.  They asked good or bad and I replied "It's complicated?"  But I've journaled a lot through some workbooks I had just gotten, worked on a lot of arts, read a lot, and watched some good movies/TV.  I probably have never had this much time off and required to do nothing, in my entire life.  Mixed bag, indeed.

I have been lurking and living vicariously through all of you.
  • Our weekend was OK.
We got snow on Friday so stayed home in the evening until that got cleaned up.

Saturday I got up and made a grocery list.  Then was hit by a headache, body aches, etc.  I laid low all day and slept a lot.

Woke up feeling fine on Sunday so it was just a 24 hr thing. We did online church, I got groceries and we got laundry done.

DH woke up ill this morning and is home.  Hopefully, it's just the 24 hr thing.

Positive test rates are sky high in our community right now.  School is going to distance learning tomorrow through the end of the month.  Church is all virtual again.  Our city has instituted a mask mandate again. Work (not my work unit) has been hit hard with folks out.  Most are mild cases since we have a vax mandate.  But it feels like we are going back 2 years.

  • @CharmedPam, I'm glad your surgery went well.

@VarunaTT, although it's for a bad reason, I'm glad that being forced to stay home has improved your mental health.

It's a normal work day for me.  We are very light on holidays here, unfortunately.

My blood sugars are back to normal.  They started getting better on Fri/Sat and have been 100% back to normal since yesterday/today.  Making me even more sure I had COVID, despite my negative test.

My endocrinologist never called me back.  That was the final straw for me.  I really like him as a doctor, but his office is terrible.  My appointments are always at least 90 minutes late.  I usually have to call multiple times to get my prescriptions filled and that's after already giving them at least a week to do it.  I've seen him for years and this was the FIRST time I've contacted him outside of an appointment because I was so concerned about what was happening.  I've been a diabetic for 28 years, so I don't need very much hand holding.  But, when I have concerns, I need to be able to rely on my doctor to help me and he massively let me down.

I coincidentally already have an appointment scheduled with him at the end of the month but, after that, I've already picked out a new endocrinologist I'm going to go to.  The new guy specializes in thyroid disorders, I also have extreme hypothyroidism, so that's a nice bonus.  But I mainly picked him because he has good reviews.  I'm just so paranoid though, because I'm kind of picky about doctors and am worried I won't like the new guy.  I had a good rapport with the doctor I'm leaving, which is why I stayed so long despite how terrible the office was.

Over the weekend, I booked our tickets for the luau/show at the Polynesian Cultural Center in HI, for our upcoming trip.  It sells out fast and I kept forgetting to do it, so I was glad to still be able to snag two tickets.  I keep crossing my fingers the COVID spikes recede and we don't have to cancel our trip.  My H and I aren't worried about traveling, but we don't want to go if a lot of the stuff we want to do is shut down.

  • @CharmedPam glad the surgery went well. What a cutie pie @charlotte989875. I'm the same way with doctors, @short+sassy. It takes a lot to make me leave one I like (even one I don't really like) but that kind of non-action is not acceptable.

We dodged the snow. I stayed in all weekend anyway. Yesterday was church in our recliners. I also started moving stuff out of our closet this weekend. Our master bath reno is scheduled to start the middle of February if the vanity is in (suppose to be in the 1st week of Feb). Our closet is off our bathroom (i.e. you have to walk through the bathroom to get to the closet) so we are moving everything out and getting it painted. We haven't painted it since we moved in almost 23 years ago. We will probably sleep in our daughter's room while they are working on the bathroom so I moved my clothes into her closet. I still have stuff to move but will wait until it is closer to demo time.

I started watching the last season of Shameless. I'm liking this one (season 11) better than season 10. I've done 3 weight workouts at home now. I need to keep it up until I return to the Y and work with my trainer. Covid numbers need to get much better for me to do that.
  • Cutie for sure @charlotte989875. My neices love the snow. I mean, they’re canadian so it’s part of their rite - but they love toboggans, snowmen and they have this power operated 4 wheeler that works in the snow (just for kids).
love the shelving units @Jstump2.  Be thankful you have a handy husband!
@short+sassy, I’m glad your #’s are where they should be. Sucks about the incompetence though.  The two hospitals I use have an email message system.  It may take a day or two for the doctors to reply, but they’ve never not replied before! Annoying.
@ILoveBeachMusic i basically watched all of S11 during recovery and it was actually pretty good. I can’t remember much of 10 though tbh. Was Fiona gone in 10 or did she leave at the end of 10?

  • @CharmedPam. I am very grateful! He is pretty amazing, I know I'm super lucky!

She was gone in 10 - left at the end of 9. I finished it last night. I'm glad things were kind of tied up but thought it was a bit over the top with Frank. Overall liked it better than 10 even though I can't remember much of 10 either.
  • @CharmedPam all the healing vibes
@charlotte989875 so cute!  When they were little my kids didn't like snow they couldn't easily walk in

Were you also annoyed with how bratty Jemma and Amy are?  Especially with the edibles.

  • @CharmedPam Her preschool is closed until end of next week so far :(

LOL just seemed like unsupervised kid behavior to me. The whole beauty pageant thing bothered me though.

I’m sure it is.  This is why I shouldn’t have kids.  LOL.  But also, I would have moved the case of treats after the first no didn’t work!
