Wedding Woes

Monday

Kiddos are back at school today.  I'm still not feeling well but working most of today bc my STD claim will take a month to approve and I can't use all of my sick leave and vacation in the first 3 weeks of January if it's denied.  It feels weird for the house to be so quiet.

Weekend was nice.  IL's took the boys all day Saturday and H and I napped and watched TV and nothing else.  It was amazing.

How was everyone's weekend?

Re: Monday

  • I'm so tired of being cold but 4 days!
    If I pass Wednesday, I only have to bus on Friday and that's it {because BK goes to my mum's half day}

Weekend was decent. Saturday we were going to go out but it was so cold, we opted not to.
    Sunday we went to chapters.
I'm trying to find the Marlon Bundo book {John Oliver one} for BK for Easter.
At this rate, I'll probably have to get it delivered to the store. I was just hoping to find it so one thing is done.

Katie on Instagram: “Went to chapters. Only ended up getting one item here but we found a lot of treasures!”

BK ended up getting the kiwi bird. We had her choose between book and stuffie.

    Otherwise okay.

Anyways, I've been looking up different lunch kits for BK next year.
    Does anyone do a bento box with thermos? It gets cold here, and I'd like to be able to give the option of warm food but kindergarten is just .... a thermos doesn't cut it. They seem to need options {at least BK does}

Yes it's pricy, but has anyone used similar?

  • Good Morning!

The weekend was decent.  I had a grand total of 3 drinks Friday night and the way I felt Saturday you'd think I was dancing on tables after 6.  High there 40s you are sucking my tolerance.

Saturday afternoon was spent cleaning Chiquita's room.  Four 30 gallon garbage bags and one giant 50 gallon garbage bag later and it looks SO MUCH better.

Sunday MIL came by and Chiquita gave her GS cookie pitch and she filled us in on some of the goings on w/BIL and his family.  There are some changes happening and I know MIL can be knowingly abrasive but I have witnessed BIL also doubting what MIL says and it comes back to be a bad look on him.  I asked DH not to insert himself into their situation but at least be factual.  Their dad's recovering from surgery and I think BIL may think MIL is overblowing his current strength and mobility  and the reality is that it's not great.  This is relevant as BIL is wanting MIL and FIL to travel to visit and have FIL do work in their basement.

DH's birthday is next week and I'm trying to figure out what to get him.  Right now it's a Flaviar subscription.

Yay for the decluttering success @banana468 and the down time on Saturday @Casadena
@MissKittyDanger my kids have these https://www.amazon.ca/Bentgo-Kids-Prints-Unicorn-5-Compartment/dp/B07QZ4CRP3/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=QBVK7N6J7TWR&keywords=bento+box+kids&qid=1643038011&s=kitchen&sprefix=bento+box+kids,kitchen,59&sr=1-1-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExRExIUUtYTzhKN1E3JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNzg4Njg4M05QUUhXRkxMUEtPSCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNzc2NjI4MjFYTjBVRTRCU0tQVyZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1
but then they also have thermoses that I can't link bc they were in the $5 spot at Target years ago that I'll send in a couple times a week with soup, pasta or leftovers...on thermos days I put the thermos in their more traditional lunchboxes along with a spoon, crackers, and a snack that doesn't need to be kept cool, like a banana.

Weekend was low-key and enjoyable enough, STBXH is really doing everything he can to make things difficult.

@charlotte989875 so so sorry about how the game turned out.  I was busy grading so only turned it on at the start of the 4th quarter, jeez what an ending but really wish it had gone the other way

ETA- @MissKittyDanger okay no idea why the link is so big lol ^ and why most of the patterns are so pricey!  I bought them a couple years ago and I adore the quality but they were definitely all in the $30-35 range
  • @ei34 This one is also in my amazon cart! Yeh the price flux is weird. Does it keep food hot/cold well? I'm thinking in winter it'd be nice for BK to have a little pasta or nuggets warm in her lunch since it's cold a.f here
  • Low key weekend here.  Went to dinner at a new place on Friday night because I had a gc for a free meal.  We weren't impressed with the service or the food.

Saturday I made a Walmart run, made pasta e fagioli in the instant pot and watched the Packer season come to an end.

Sunday, I slept late and missed online church.  Did laundry and made banana bread - it is so good!  We did burgers in the air fryer for dinner.

Back at it this morning.  I'm training someone and have 3 sessions with them this week.  Also teaching 3 classes so it'll be a busy week at work.  It's been really cold here and will continue this week.  Not supposed to get above 0 tomorrow - brrr.

I've been on hold with Carnival cruises for almost 45 mins this morning.  We are planning a New England/Canada cruise in 2023 and are on an easy pay plan.  They say our Jan CC payment was declined, credit card company says it was "Reversed" by Carnival.  Regardless, I want to make that payment and have to call in to do it.  The only option they have on the website is to pay in full. What a pain.

  • I’m back at work and trying to take it easy. COVID definitely took me down. Thursday I started to be on the struggle bus with oxygen. I knew I was short of breath but seeing it drop down to the low 90s at rest was not great. I attempted the elliptical yesterday and my O2 dropped down to 81% so that was the end of that.  I’m glad to be vaccinated or I’m sure I would have ended up in the hospital.

So this is how my voicemails are looking so far. Lol.

  • @ILoveBeachMusic where abouts in Canada? I'm guessing east coast, but specifically I mean :)
  • @MissKittyDanger - it's me going to Canada.  We'll have stops in Saint John, NB and Halifax, NS.

  • Tentatively planning a family vacation to PEI in August assuming Covid-feasibility. So I’m joining the “vacation in Canada” crew. Although availability is already tight and we can’t book anything for a couple months yet.
  • @MNNEBride that sounds so great! I love the East Coast in both countries. You’re gonna have so much fun and see so much beauty.  I’m socking away a monthly amount for my 2023 cruise but maybe celebrity has a payment plan? Great idea to see the balance go down
@levioosa ao sorry for those complications.  And I’m glad you’re vaccinated too

i’m sick of the snow.  Both Saturday night and Sunday night, and I can’t afford the removal 2 days in a row!! I Had a great meetup dinner on Saturday, lunch with a friend (going through her own divorce drama) and another meetup for a comedy show, but only one other person showed. The headliner was good.  The opener…..not so much.  It was at a small brewery and only 16 people in the audience (so nicely spread out). I’m glad I went though. All in all, a fun weekend.

  • We're toying with a summer vacation too.  Right now we're looking at renting a house either on the Cape, MV or Nantucket.
  • @MNNEBride jeez I cannot read! Sorry!
East is nice. When are you going? Nova Scotia is where M's mum's side of the family is from :)
  • @MissKittyDanger it's good at keeping cold foods cold and warm foods warm, but by design it's one temp or the other.  I couldn't put warm pasta and meatballs in one section and chilled berries in another, the temps would mix.  I use mine on days the kids are having cold lunch, and their thermoses on hot lunch days.
  • @charlotte989875 uhm excuse me, shouldn't he be an INFANT!? When did he grow!?
  • @charlotte989875, Like @ei34, I also only caught the last quarter of the Bills game.  I was rooting for them on your behalf and was also "whoa, what just happened" at the end.

I had an unexpected weekend.  With my local real estate group, there are a couple meetings a month.  I usually miss them because they are on Thursday nights and that is when I do my Costco side gig.  I had especially wanted to catch the speaker for this last Thursday night's meeting, but just didn't want to spend most of my day on Friday at Costco, so I didn't.  But she had a seminar over the weekend and I signed up for it late Fri. night.  The first day was about rehabbing and the second day was about short-term rentals (STR).  I ended up going from 9AM-5PM on BOTH days.  OMG, was that tough!  Great seminar and I learned a lot, but I feel like I had no downtime.

STR can be amazingly lucrative.  Much more so than LTR.  I've been interested in it for a long time.  Unfortunately, NOLA is a suck area for STRs.  You can pretty much only get an STR license for your personal home.  Either renting out a room in your house or owner-occupying a 2-4 unit building.  You'd think being a touristy city that STRs would be a great option, but they aren't especially.  We have a high STR vacancy rate.  Which is why I rent the other side of my personal duplex to a LT tenant.  Though he STRs it.  Plus I'm hoping to move out of this area in the next 2-3 years anyway.  So I will need to build my STR empire elsewhere, lol.  Perhaps somewhere I would want to live, which is always the big question.  But they sound fairly easy to manage if you live OOS, which was my biggest concern.

The speaker resides in Ocala, FL and owns some there.  But she is going "all in", in Branson, MO.  She owns 2-3 right now in Branson and recently bought a 69 acre plot of land where she is going to build ten 6-bedroom houses.

As speakers often do, she had cool stories.  Another REI she knows has their personal home in Daytona.  They only STR their house for the Daytona 500 and another race that is the next weekend.  Plus there's also some big bike weekend at some point in the year.  They make about $3K/night for those 10-14 days related to racing.  They go on vacation for that time.  And $2K/night over the bike weekend.  Same thing.  Take a long weekend vacay elsewhere.  Just doing that, pays their mortgage for the year.

I know! He’s objectively huge now. He runs, not walks, everywhere. It’s wild.

The only people I was with that were happy about that snow were my twin grandsons! We left this morning around 10 - wanted rush hour to get over with before hitting the interstates. Made it through with no problems.
  • We go the last week in September 2023 cruising out of NYC to Portland, ME to Saint John, Halifax and back to NYC.  Going with another couple.
