Irish here! Grandpa was born in Sligo and was from the same town as Mike Pence's family. Hopefully he's not a distant cousin! 3/4 of my grandparents had Irish ancestry so it's a day celebrated in the family. I loved it growing up because my grandmother and grandfather would have a huge party in their tiny house that was standing room only celebrating the day with food and drinks and singing around the piano. It was an excuse to celebrate with friends and my favorite day growing up.

We have a quiet celebration tonight and will have a stew for dinner and a black and tan. Saturday we are having my ILs and uncle over for corned beef, colcannon, regular mashers, cabbage, and chocolate stout cupcakes with salted caramel buttercream.

Me too! Though none of it is Irish, lol. Portuguese on my mom's side, specifically from the Azores. German on my dad's.

I do love corned beef and cabbage, though. And one of my favorite colors is emerald green. So I will be Irish, in spirit, today!

I thought I was more Irish than my ancestory tests have led on… but on this day, I’ll claim it!
The place I was thinking of going to tonight canceled trivia (good thing I called!) BECAUSE it was St. Patrick’s Day. I feel like it would be a reason to keep it going? Make the questions Irish themed? We wanted to go there because we know the waitress, and it’s a short uber ride. We had trivia on our minds so we’re going to a place near my friends and 45 minutes away now instead of local (for me) 😔. But close for them, and we’ll still uber it. It’s at a brewery that only serves beer, no food. I don’t normally drink beer, but in dire straits, I’ll have to. And we’re able to bring food in, so at least we can pick a good place for eats.

I have a stye. I'm off tomorrow and have to go to the pharmacy Saturday, so I'm doing warm cloth until then. Ideally it'll be fine but whatever.
I may swing by a store in the mini mall for jean capris. They've been impossible to find and I debated making my own. Hopefully they fit.

I'm only 5'0" tall. My clothing trick is I buy almost exclusively capri pants/jeans, so they hit me like a normal length!

But I'm also an anomaly that rarely wears pants or jeans. Not even talking about length, they aren't cut right for me, so they look weird and are really uncomfortable. Skirts are so much more comfortable and look better, at least for me.

I think a lot of places do trivia because it's a more off night and a way to get people in.

St. Patrick's Day in a bar is going to make trivia not possible. At least- most bars I've been to on St. Patrick's Day had a variation of loud drunks or bagpipes that made questions and answers very difficult.

Good point! Ottowa and NOLA have very different weather, lol. I'm sure I'd wear pants in the winter too, if I lived somewhere that snows.

And the rest of the day to you. I'm half Irish half Italian. But I agree that everyone is Irish today.

Met with my lawyer in person for the first time earlier today. Brought my dad for backup and emotional support. The big document (global stipulation of settlement) is complete and ready to go to STBXH (yikes). If STBXH signs right away, my lawyer gives that and the other documents to the court...then we just wait for a judge to stamp off and we're divorced. According to the lawyer, it'll take a couple months or a couple years depending on the judge (??!?!) so I guess hoping we get a quick judge? He did also say he'd send STBXH a letter to stop harassing me. Doubt he will but something in writing feels good. Small victories.
I had enough personal time left that I was able to run to the supermarket, grab a small corned beef, and throw it on the stove, so we will have a traditional meal tonight in addition to last Sunday. STBXH was asked to make sure the house doesn't burn down. So I guess he does have his purposes.

@mrsconn23 do you know what countries? Scandinavian background fascinates me for some reason, lol

I'm also not Irish, but still wearing green today. It's a perfect spring day here and I'm dying to just be outside. I went for a walk on lunch, but I'd rather blow off my afternoon and go to a park or something. Otherwise, nothing interesting happening.

Swedish! We make fantastic glogg at Christmas. And our meatballs aren't so bad.

I totally forgot and did not wear green. I'm not even sure I own anything green, TBH. However, one of the younger folx told me that he would never dare to pinch me, so I feel my reputation is holding firm.

Late coming on today, I've been able to really focus in at work and I'm enjoying it again. Planning a weekend trip in April, I think, that should be fun. Will get to hang out with a really great friend who moved and see a bunch of old friends out of town at a big pageant.

IDK why K has been on my mind a lot lately but it's in a...healthy, I guess, way. The pageant I'm going to I went to previously with K and it was a very sort of mutual friends group, but since it was based in drag, I dropped all of them for boundaries at the time of the breakup. I've very slowly starting adding the people that I personally liked and missed back into my life over the last year (I think it's only like 4 people, to be frank). Every single one of them has DM'd me to say that they're sorry about the breakup, but they liked me, didn't like K, and to ask how to handle not being able to FB unfriend K, but have me as a FB friend (dealt with on my end). It's funny, but honestly, it's also sad. I truly didn't understand/know the myriad faces of this person that I was so in love with, but they truly were different people all the time to everyone. I'm so grateful to myself that I never could make it over the hump, truly, to get remarried, b/c now I'd be twice divorced or stuck in another failing marriage. I'm honestly not sure my ego/mental health could've dealt with that.

@ei34 I hope there's progress that moves your way both in the divorce and also in your STBX accepting that this is happening and his need to stop harassing you.

I'm annoyed at work today and looking forward to 5:00 approaching. It's been a busy time with supply chain issues and I work with some of the larger companies out there. I'm not saying that to toot my own horn but to say that the supply chain issues are WELL KNOWN and to write me emails that I need to "do something" to move up your orders make you look like you just don't know what you're doing when you write emails with big shoulders saying "You're going to need to move this." I can't move up and get you something when I don't have and won't have the raw material for 12 more weeks. If I could get it in earlier I wouldn't have told you a 3 month lead time. Get back to me when you're ready to look into solutions that do not involve your own petulance.

Mostly Irish here but from so far back I don't know the percentage. A bit of Scottish too. We never did the whole corned beef and cabbage thing growing up but I do love it. I always thought that my Dad's family was part Germany based on my maiden name but found out I was wrong. It is an Irish surname! I thought it was an anglicized version of a German word but nope! I have very typical black Irish coloring - fair skin, dark hair (with lots of help nowadays) and blue eyes.

@ei34 I hope you get a quick judge. This seems to have been going on a lot longer than necessary! Glad you got the letter for him to stop harassing you. I don't know how you have been able to live in the same house with him!

@CharmedPam yes, I met with the lawyer 2/25/21, told STBXH I was filing 2/26, and officially filed 3/5. He said that STBXH is free to go, but that's nothing new, he's been allowed to go.
I can also leave (with the kids) and move in with my parents who have plenty of room, but our current home is mine (we had to sell our marital home summer 2020 bc he very theatrically got fired and if you're down a six-figure salary you can't stay in your old lifestyle), and I'm lucky to have it and don't want to leave it. I mean I have a go-bag in the back of the car if he ever got physically violent but my school, the kids' school, their extracurrics etc are all right here. But I was told I could take the kids to move in with my parents and he couldn't say I was kidnapping them.

STBXH is just drawing it out. He had 60 days to get document X in and submitted it on the 59th day. 90 days for document Y was submitted on the 89th day, etc. Even last night when I told him to expect the big final document sometime next week, he was all "yeah I'm not signing that". I already told my lawyer and he said there are ways around that but, spoiler alert, it'll just take longer. My department chair has been going through a divorce since 2016 bc her ex won't sign things. A colleague is now divorced but it took over four years start ti finish. Hoping I don't join them in that nonsense.

eta- part of the settlement is neither party should drag the other online. Which i mean he's dragging himself at this point. I'm not using his name (or even my own even though I know some of you know it) but I may delete this since it gives kind of specific info
