Friday!

And the showings/background check rent hell continues, lol.  The person who gave us the deposit had a recent eviction come up on her background check.  She swears it was dismissed and sent us the court document.  That I can talk to her attorney later today, blah, blah.  The document shows the plaintiff won.  But then there are two stamps that say "Dismissed" on it.  I'm calling the court directly in a bit and am hoping they will disclose what the actual verdict was.  However, it's still alarming because the case was filed in June 2021 and the hearing was Jan. 2022.  The only reason it would have taken that long for the trial is because it was related to non-payment of rent.  So, even if it was dismissed for some reason, I'm not sure I care.  She's also not living there anymore.

For more crazy stories.  We do open house type showings.  As such, there can be more than one potential applicant seeing the house at the same time as other people.  This was the case yesterday and a man pulled my H aside to speak "privately".  He told him, "You know black people don't pay, right?"  OMG, are you kidding me!?!?  And just for a touch of irony, he was a POC himself (Hispanic).

It's always startling to me when people are so blatantly racist, especially to a stranger.  But did he actually think that would win him "points"?  We would never rent to someone like that.

Unfortunately, today will be a hectic day also.  I have to finish my weekly Costco scanning after work and then I need to go pick up my MINI Cooper.  I made an appointment to take my Ford Ranger to Firestone on Tuesday, lol.

  • @short+sassy   Idk if courts there were having same issues but a lot were backed up due to pandemic so that could be why there is a huge time gap

Yes!  That is exactly why there is a huge time gap.

In NOLA in 2021, they were holding eviction court hearings for everything EXCEPT non-payment of rent.  That's how I know that's what she was being evicted for.

Because if it had been anything else...like she'd been given a 30-day notice to vacate, but didn't leave...that court date would have been scheduled within 1-2 months of the filing.

They didn't start scheduling eviction hearings for non-payment of rent until Oct. 2021.  And, yeah, there was a backlog for that.

  • BK went to SFIL yesterday. Pick up is not easy for him, and we don't know why. Even when we visit.
She gets upset/shy then like 2min later it's like it never happened.
We think she thinks it's a game, but we're trying to explain that it's not and she needs to not play this game.
Luckily her teachers are understanding as they've seen it multiple times but we'll see what happens.

Anyways it was cool and rainy, and BK was living her best spring life.
She hasn't been able to use her umbrella much and she got new rainboots so she basically went with SFIL up and down the street on the curb in the puddles lol
She obv crashed hard and she's a sweaty napper, and she is not the greatest to be woken up before she's ready.
It took SFIL 3x to actually get her up and that included a bribe of smoothie lol

Weekend plans are groceries and taking a shelving unit to my friend's place.
Unfortunately BK can't go because of the size we need to take carseat out. I told M he can do it since I'm doing groceries and we'll just trade off child watching.

I'm getting my hair done next week.
I feel like I'm 8 seconds from doing it myself so I texted my stylist. I am not a long hair person and it feels long. Which is extremely frustrating.
    Also because my hair is fairly oily - or just gets oily really quick - colouring my hair helps. My stylist explained why it helps {I just thought it bleached out my scalp since I go blonde}
  • I've already spoken to the court.  To give her a little credit, I see why she was possibly confused and thought it had been dismissed.

The plaintiff/landlord won.  But, in court, she agreed to be out within 24 hours.  So the court stamped the paperwork she received with "dismissed", because she agreed to leave.  However, it doesn't mean the whole case was dismissed.  The person I spoke to also verified that it would be on her record.  Just like it popped up for me.

Here's my guess as to what happened.  She keeps telling me what bad shape that residence was in and that's why she was innocent.  I assume she stopped paying the rent because of the condition or at least that was her excuse (which may have been true).

Except that isn't evictions work, at least where I live.  There are other avenues for that.  For example, she could have set up an escrow account with the court.  Paid her rent to that.  And then the landlord could have collected it when they fixed the issues.  Or she could have moved out if the conditions were so bad, instead of continuing to live there without paying rent for EIGHT months.

  • I have 4 more days before this allergy appointment.  I'm going to make it through sheer stubbornness.  I walked into work and 3 people stopped to ask me if I was okay. Yes, this is just what my eyeballs look like with no meds and my nose/upper lip is red from rubbing and sneezing.

One of my good friends came into town unexpectedly yesterday, so I'm supposed to see him tonight.  Other than that, I have no plans for the weekend.  I've got some projects to work on for fun, but other than that I'm probably just going to stay inside and growl at the "poison air" as one of my colleagues called it.  Maybe finally see Batman.  I started filling out the allergy doctor's intake paperwork last night.  It's pretty extensive; some of the questions kind of shocked me b/c it made me think about these allergies in a way I never had before and I was like, Damn, these really are bad.  I didn't even stop to think that this thing I've lived with for so long was an allergy symptom.
  • Woohoo Friday!
I went to my annual eye exam yesterday - 5 months late. Oops. But hey, I went at least? 🤷🏻‍♀️
When the tech was doing the eye check she asked if I had corrective surgery because it was much better than last time.  Then the optimistrist looked at me.  I didn’t really like his bedside manner last time and that’s why it took so long for me to go back. I was looking for another one but just went with him again because why not? They already had my paperwork. I must have gotten him on a bad day in 2020 because he seemed nicer to deal with last night.

I had a great check up! My vision has improved and my glasses are actually too strong now.  But because I’m a “young lady” (his words, definitely not mine) my eyes were powering through the stronger prescription.  Plus he saw no signs of diabetic retinopathy, which he was impressed with. He was like “congratulations.  This is good news.  Your A1c went down just a bit but really improved your vision. I’m worried with most people of an a1c of 8 or higher. I don’t know if you’ll ever get to no glasses ever….but your prescription is getting weaker at least”. So my vision problems are hereditary, computer screen time and just getting older.  Lol

I’m new with this whole glasses thing. Last time I paid at the eye doc, $170 for one pair WITH my insurance discount/contribution.  They were fitted for me though.  Everyone told me to take the prescription and go online. So I did, and got 2 pair for what I paid last time. The online places don’t ask for insurance.  Am I right in thinking if you go to an eyeglass store and run your insurance the prices are double to start off with? And the online places don’t take insurance because the prices are so low and ultimately cheaper than lets say lens crafter’s?  Or the eye doc itself?

  • @short+sassy  I cannot tell you how life changing it feels like! Also being use to driving in winter and now roads are dry is a huge change lol
It feels like M doesn't HAVE to do all the running around and I'm only one watching BK - it feels more balanced. Also if I'm out I can get coffee if I decide to ;)

That feeling goes away eventually. “Yay I can get coffee” *realizes that requires putting pants on* “nevermind. I can do without”.

@CharmedPam ugh you reminded me I have to get an eye test to send to the DMV.  I received the notice in the mail almost a year ago, my license had to be renewed by my birthday (in June) and I had one year to send in the eye test separately.  Which I still have to do.  Whoops.
@short+sassy I've thought it before, but I couldn't imagine being a landlord.  Seems like so much work.

I desperately need a Costco run and toying with going later.  In a perfect world I'd go straight from work bc it's not too far from my school and I could be there by 2:45.  But in reality I'll pick up the kids, they'll want to play on the playground for a while, and we'll arrive more like 4ish.
  • I think you're right, Pam. I only wore glasses for a couple of years before I did lasik, but I felt like everything at the eye doctor was outrageously expensive. I actually had them just put new lenses in my old frames once and it was pretty cheap.

Yay for Friday! I'm a little disappointed that the friend I was supposed to have lunch with today had to cancel. I really like her and wish we were better friends, but it's hard to find times that work for both of us. Nothing much else going on this weekend. Long overdue hair appointment in the morning, meeting my sister for a hike and need to do some yard work Sunday.
  • Oh thanks for the reminders - I ALSO need to renew my license and I'm running out of time!

Dammit.  I forgot about that too! I literally just orderer an almost dup of what I had since I like them!

    Drive thru ;)
Requires no pants. Maybe a blanket because it's still cold lol
  • Oh crap, I need to get my eyes checked too. I think my last exam was pre-pandemic.

Yay Friday! I'm out of here in 45 mins. This has been such a long week. Getting my hair done tomorrow and that's all I have planned.
  • Just for fun, b/c I have no energy at work and am basically just doing bare minimum and counting down until 5.

I'm a huge David Bowie fan.  I've been brainstorming drag names and we've all basically narrowed it down to 2, very Bowie inspired.

    1.  Rebel Blackstar (Rebel, Rebel is one of my favorite pop songs of his, and Blackstar is the name of his las album before he died and is on my Bowie tattoo).
    2.  Alassin Sane (this is the one I'm leaning towards more.  One of Bowie's personas was Aladdin Sane, a play off of "a lad insane" b/c he was writing and exploring mental health questions, so just flipped it for myself).
  • This week has felt so long.  I'm sure part of it is DefConn being home and knowing I have time off next week.

We don't have much on the horizon for the weekend.  It's going to be cold and crappy.  We may do a fire in the fireplace tomorrow. I refuse to call it the last one of the year because DH did that earlier this month and he was wrong.  LOL

DefConn spent the night at FIL's last night.  We had a wild night of making sure the guest room was ready for spackle and paint.  And then we watched Top Chef.  DH is *FOUR* episodes into to the current season and has never watched Top Chef with me before and now he's all, "We should do our own cooking competition with each other."  Calm down, bro.  Hee.

DH crashed early, and I was tired too, but then I started reading and the next thing I knew it was about midnight.  Whoops. It's why I struggle with reading at night, but it's the only time I will actually do it. *le sigh*
  • The Pokemon saga continues.
