Sounds like a fun weekend and sending extra hugs to all with the start of daycare, although I hope adding day care to the mix will be a better fit for your family @charlotte989875

I have a touch of Monday grogginess and the fact that I'm working an event at my school tonight from 6:30-9:30 is making it worse.  Today is the first day of the fourth (and final) quarter so we're all kind of in countdown mode.
  • @charlotte989875 my kiddos loved daycare!  It can be hard for the first drop offs and then they want you GONE.

Weekend was super busy.  Saturday I renewed my driver's license, brought Chiquito to his 1st Communion retreat and Chiquita delivered two of her cookie orders to my Uncle.  We went to Mass that night and then DH made NY strips and I made some killer baked potatoes.  My picky Chiquito finally tried steak on Saturday and then yesterday in the car said, "Do you have any more of that food you gave me last night?  I'd like some of that!"  Sorry kid - you'll have to wait!

Saturday night we watched Coda which was really good.  It was nice to see a Best Picture winner that wasn't so weirdly artsy like  The Shape of Water and was a great movie with a great story about growing up, families, hearing impaired and hs.  DH heard me choking back tears more than a few times.

Yesterday Chiquita had a hike with her GS troop. She had a HORRIBLE moment when one group of friends announced they were leaving and she yelled out an exuberant "Yes!" as one boy was part of the group (his sister is in the Troop) and I was (and am) still mortified.  We talked about it, apologies were said and I still feel so awful.  I think the mom is cool with it but ugh - kiddo.  You screwed up bigtime and you know how it feels to be picked on.  NOT COOL.  The hike was nearly 7 miles and when we got home we headed to Ikea. My legs (and hips) are TIRED.  Ikea is out of stock of SO MUCH that I wanted but we did get a bunch of white plates and bowls to replace what's chipped in the kitchen for our everyday dishes.

Last night we watched the women from our alma mater play some terrible basketball and South Carolina deservedly won.  Now a new week begins!
  • Chaos.
Friday I picked BK up as she was complaining of stomach unwell. She puked on M but afterwards was fine.
    Rapid test - negative

No issues. No symptoms since the puke. Tired but otherwise fine.
Good night sleep, and ok for outside fun at sugar bush. Advised MIL & SFIL if BK felt sick again, we'd leave.
    She was fine.
Later that night BK got a fever and M felt ill.
    Rapid test again - negative.

Sunday was lowkey. BK puked in morning but was immediately fine and asking for food.
    M still felt unwell.
    BK is still fine.
    Made M rapid test again this morning before I left for work {BK is home today as precaution}
    Negative.
M, SFIL and MIL are all battling this likely cold - they continue to rapid test in case.

I'm in office but I still mask and we're all keeping far away.

BK was suppose to have a bday party sunday but since she was sick, we canceled going.
Apparently they woke up unwell and were considering canceling.
I've also now roped myself into a possible play date with BK and other little girl when everyone is better.
  • Chiquita, use your inside voice! Lol
    cute about the dino’s @charlotte989875

I was up at 4:00 today.  You’d think I’d be on time then? Nope. Still late. But my kitchen is clean and I made Salatka.  There’s a carrot/pea/potato pre mix I got at the polish deli, and the eggs were boiled yesterday…

Saturday I got my tires on, came into the office and spent 2 hrs on my boss’ retirement book.  Sunday, I saw “The Lost City”. It’s so cute and funny! But I slept on and off SO much yesterday, that’s probably why I was up so early today.

Today, I was going through the book I spent the weekend doing and the admin hollared at annoying co-worker for her input.  Her nickname is annoying co-worker for a reason. When I went back to the project, she moved some pictures around and one was deliberately smaller because the resolution wouldn’t have printed well. There was zero reason to flip them.  The larger picture was clearer and better.  But she HAD to do something. Had to make a change (I changed them back before the purchase).  Next time just have her do it.  She’s good at everything she touches.  🙄 that’s today’s gripe.

Morning!  Shit, it's afternoon.  Weekend was pretty good.

DH's cousin came into town Friday night.  We had a great time with her and her doggos.  We did have a couple pooping incidents due to nerves/excitement, but otherwise they're well-behaved and not too bad of houseguests.  DefConn was in heaven since he loves dogs a bunch.  Also, hard floors and a ruggable are clutch, LOL.

Saturday, we got up and said goodbye to DH's cousin as she continued on to her parent's.  We took DefConn to the moto shop to exchange the riding pants my dad bought for him and we bought him a chest protector as part of his bday gift.  We came home and I took a nap.  I went to dinner and Mean Girls with my sisters.

Mean Girls musical is AH-MAZING!!  So funny. I wasn't expecting to laugh the whole time.  They modernized a lot of stuff and so it was super relevant to teens and messaging for today.  Most of the leads were great.  The chick to played Regina was a little flat.  It felt like she was trying to sing through her nose, but, like...she didn't open the back of her throat enough.  So it was closing off all her notes and words.  I couldn't understand about every 3rd word

Sunday, shopping and getting stuff done around the house.  DefConn got to ride most of the day because it was nice out.  We smoked a chicken for dinner.

DH goes to GA later this week (fingers crossed he doesn't get effed with his flights) for BIL's retirement.

    SSDD otherwise.
  • All I did this weekend was household chores, watch Six Feet Under and F1: Drive to Survive.  I'm incredibly boring, but the darn air feels like poison to me right now and it's just not worth going anywhere if I don't have to.
  • @mrsconn23 I've heard so many good things about ruggable but so expensive :( I'm getting a rug from there for BK when we get her new bedframe and probably one for living room. Debating about mudroom area also lol
  • I shouldn't have tempted myself.  Because I'm not looking to purchase a car until late this year or next year.  But I was "pre-scouting" to see what is out there and now there are a bunch of cars I want to buy, lol.  I'm staying strong.

I did make discoveries.  I've always been very anti buying a new car.  Because, supposedly, "you lose 20-30%" as soon as you drive it off the lot.  But that's actually not what I was discovering at all.  Maybe it's just the short supply world we are in right now, but used cars that were only a couple years old were as much, if not more than new cars.

One difference is I think most people buying a new car just buy whatever a dealership has available.  And I'm betting dealerships don't carry base models.  So most of the used cars out there are the "upgraded" models.

For each type of car I'm considering, the base model...for many thousands less...is fine with me.  I don't mind ordering it, but am worried a dealership won't give me much of a break if I'm not buying something on their lot.  Plus, if I'm buying used, I'm looking at getting an after-market warranty either right away or within one year.  By the time I do that, I might as well just buy a new car, with a full 3-year warranty.

Here are my considerations, all of them convertibles:
    • Mazda MX-5, probably my fave because there is a local dealership where it can be serviced.  Apparently that is required to maintain a new car warranty.  Ugh.  Like I really want to drive out to the suburbs, just to get a stupid and overly expensive oil change.  But I could do that.
    • Fiat Spider -- These are SO cute!  This is what I really want, but I need to do more research.  Fiat dealerships don't exist anymore and this car is no longer made, though they still have fairly new ones (up to 2020) on the used market.  The reviews I've read said they are very reliable, but it's hard to get parts.
    • MINI Cooper -- I already know I like them but, then again, that's what I've been driving and would like something different.  Another massive detraction is, if I bought one new, I'd have to get it regularly serviced for the warranty to be good.  And the closest dealership is Baton Rouge.  That's not very feasible, so this is probably more only if I get a good deal on a used one.
    • Ford Mustang -- The colors they have to choose from on the base model are "blah".  It also gets half the MPG of the other choices.  But if I could get a good deal on a used one, maybe.

On a totally different subject, I'm sorry to have to be a bad guy, but I'm pulling the rug out from under some former tenants.

They left their broken down car in the driveway when they moved out in mid-Feb.  But they'd paid for the whole month, so I didn't mind it being there through the end of the month.  NORMALLY, I would have temporarily held $250 from their security deposit, in case I had to tow it.  But I didn't know it was still there when I paid them the full SD back, because my H forgot to tell me, smh.  I was so aggravated about that.  For exactly this reason!

They keep promising me it will be gone on X day.  But there have been many promises of "X day" and it's still there.  I finally gave them a drop dead date of last week Sunday.  The guy called me on Monday.  He said he'd been working in Lake Charles, but would definitely have it gone by the end of the day. I told him that was fine, as long as it was gone by Tuesday.  I even gave them the option, if they can drive it at all or push it, to move it to street parking for now.  But get it out of the driveway.

My H was there today, doing a showing for one of the units, and that effing car is STILL there.  I texted the tenants that it needs to be gone in one hour or we are towing it.  But, y'all seriously?  WTF!?!?  It's been over a month!  I'm sure it would have been easier and cheaper for them to have towed it themselves, by now.  But they didn't.  So here we are.

  • Busy weekend here, I need a day just to relax.  Long trip to the park Saturday and then what felt like all day at the Children's Museum Sunday.  DS starts swim tonight and is already saying he's not going to participate so that's fun. It will be late to bed tonight since we will have dinner and bath to do when we get home - the time we get home is when I'm normally getting him ready for bedtime routine. Ugh.

does it get towed as an abandoned vehicle - like where they have to pay a fee to get it out of impound?

I'm not really sure.  I've come close, but have never actually had to tow a vehicle off my property or from blocking a driveway.  In this case, it's not blocking the driveway, it's just in it.

I think it's the responsibility of the owner of the car to pay for the tow.  Or at least that is what I am hoping for, because I will be even angrier if I have to pay money to get this stupid car off my property.

I'm just super PO'ed that my H and I are even having to waste our time on this bs.  We have been exceedingly generous to have already given them all this time, yet they still don't have their s**t together.

Heck, in all this time they could have bought a AAA membership or added a breakdown policy to their car insurance and towed it away, for free.

  • Busy weekend! I could use a day off to recover, but no rest for the weary on Mondays. Friday we went to my sister's for dinner and probably a bit more wine than I should have had. Saturday I did a 10k with a friend. We walked as much as we ran, but it was hilly trails and I was exhausted anyway. She had child care all day and was in a mood to hang out, so we ended up going to a new Korean spa nearby. I came home and did a few chores before we went out to watch a game. Then yesterday we started a new strength program in the morning, I shopped with my mom all afternoon and got home in time to fix dinner and crash.

Oh, and H let me know yesterday that his mom is coming in on Wednesday, so we get to spend the next couple of week nights getting ready for house guests.

Both my friend and I own Mazda’s @short+sassy.  I‘m a cx3 and she’s a cx9.  No complaints from me as far as the car goes (it’s low to the ground which is a me problem). We both have ‘17’s and apparently they had a censor issue with the tire pressure constantly going off.  You can manually reset it, so it wasn’t a safety concern and it was never recalled.  I’m sure that issue has been fixed! I like mazda.

for your sake I hope they have to pay. It sounds like they figure you haven't enforced the threat for this long so they can keep waiting and waiting.  Sounds like you might need to contact the local non emergency police line first or DPW type agency to have it tagged before removal instead of towing immediately (basic google search makes it seem like towing immediately would only be if it was blocking access - otherwise you'd have to pay for it to be towed)

In mid-March, they said their mechanic was waiting on a part.  I asked them how long it was going to take for the part and they didn't get back to me.  I was picturing a "mechanic friend" who was going to do the work in the driveway.  But I'm not really sure.

Agreed.  I should have Googled it myself awhile ago, jic there are notices I needed to post on the car first or something like that.

Ironically, I looked into it a long time ago, for those same tenants and passed the info on to them.  Not because of their car, but because a neighbor up the street was throwing big parties and those guests kept parking on this property's lawn and also blocking the driveway.  I feel like the verdict was, if someone is illegally parking on your property at all...not just blocking access...they can be towed at the owner's expense.  But that was awhile ago and I'm not 100% about it.

The big parties were two weekends in a row, but then didn't happen again, so those tenants didn't need to take action.

FWIW, they were good tenants while they lived there.  So I'm surprised they are being so irresponsible now.

  • @short+sassy, I have nothing on any of those cars, but one pro for new (if you finance) is that interest rates are typically lower for new versus used cars.

I think it's the market, but I found the same about used cars seeming to hold more value when we were shopping last year. I found a few cases where the 1-2 year old car was the same price as the new with similar options. I don't get it.

I know it is too soon to be celebrating.  But I was just looking at a calendar and next week is only a 3.5 day week for me!  It took me by surprise.

My work is a bit weird in that there are a bunch of Federal holidays we don't get.  But then, we do get Good Friday off, which is next Friday.  A non-Federal holiday, lol.

So my normal half-day Friday gets moved to Thursday.

With the chip shortage the demand is exceeding the supply.  Depending on the vehicle, some are able to re-sell a 1 year old car to the dealership and the dealership is able to sell the used car for the same price as a new car.   Rentals and fleet vehicles are also in short supply so this is a big portion of the buying power.

The issue now with buying new is to get the dealer to agree to a price that is as close to MSRP as possible because they rarely go lower and often include things as required w/ purchase like custom paint reinforcement at front panels (it's a BS coating that dealerships like to sell).

When we went to Florida last year a friend bought a new minivan and we took delivery of it and drove it to his house because there weren't any ones that were going for at or close to MSRP near him.  He can now sell that same car for at or more than he paid and can get on a waiting list for the same car for the 2022/2023 model year if he was so inclined.

Until we start to see the supply of vehicles actually meet demand we're going to see costs of new and used continue to be high and the only way that's possible is going to be with the supply chain issues resolving.
  • @MyNameIsNot, That is a good point about better interest if financing new vs. used.  One of the reasons I am waiting is I'll have my HELOC paid down a lot more by next year.  I could buy it cash with that.  But if I could get some sweet 0% or 2% interest rate, that would be even better.

@banana468, another reason I'm waiting is I'm hoping the new/used car shortage is better next year than this year.  Though, after reading your post, it's worse than I thought!

I'm not afraid to go further afield for a good deal, like you all did for your friend.  And often have, lol.  Over the years, I've traveled to Houston and to Pensacola to pick up vehicles.  My current MINI Cooper I had delivered to me from a dealership on FL's east coast.

For the Houston one, I flew to Houston.  Someone from the dealership picked me up from the airport.  And then I drove the car back to NOLA.
