Help! Christian Orthodox/ Jewish Ceremony

Hi there,

I am really struggling to figure out how to get married. I am Christian orthodox from Bulgaria and my fiance is born Catholic and converted to Jewish a few years ago. We are really struggling to find anyone to marry us, I would really like to do it in an Orthodox church and incorporate Jewish traditions. My family will be flying in from Europe to see us get married and these traditions are really important for us. My very old grandmas are flying from across the world to see us get married and I would really like for it to be in the church. MY mom called a few priests in the Chicago area and they refuse to do it. I had no idea that it would be so difficult to find someone to marry us. It's 2021, this makes me so sad.
My fiance is from Mexico, I am from Bulgaria, we met in Chicago and we live in LA. We want to get married in Mexico but are willing to do a church ceremony in Chicago (or literally anywhere with someone willing to do it). Has anyone gone through this and what did you end up doing?

Re: Help! Christian Orthodox/ Jewish Ceremony

  • Don't "incorporate Jewish traditions" into your wedding. They are meaningful only if you actually are or plan to be Jewish. If you want your wedding to be in an Orthodox church, then just do Orthodox traditions. Your priests aren't going to "incorporate Jewish traditions" into weddings they perform anyway.
