Wedding Woes

Fri-yay

We made it!  Birthday evening was nice.  I'm seeing some girlfriends tonight and celebrating with my mom and sisters (and all the kids) at my parents' pool tomorrow.  STBXH has been behaving the last couple days I guess as a bday gift so I'm bracing myself for a meltdown from him soon.  But in a good place otherwise.  Wishing everyone a smooth sailing kind of day!

Re: Fri-yay

  • Glad you had a good birthday!

God, this week has felt so freaking long even though it was a short week. I'm exhausted. I cannot wait to get home and veg on the couch.

We're going camping with my friend and her husband in July. Just booked the campsite. So excited even just for a fun weekend getaway.
  • Dun-dun-duh!  ( cue formidable music)

If any of you all remember, my department will be having a new boss sometime in the near future.  Who I have heard is awful to work for.  I have my one on one meeting with him in about 30 minutes.  I almost feel like I'm going to a job interview, lol.  Just in that I've already prepared a list of the things I do and also thought about how I would explain each one in only 1-2 sentences.

I'm also planning to drop "client employee names", "things I do for the client", as frequently as I can.  Because companies love it when their client(s) like you and find you helpful, lol. In my case, I only work for one client, but it is my company's main one.

My H and I got a lot done yesterday with our weekly Costco scanning.  He told me he can handle finishing it up today.  Though I know he sometimes changes his mind on that, the day of.  But it would be nice if I am "free!" when I get off work.

Later this afternoon, I have my first hair appointment since the pandemic.  I've never drastically changed my hair color enough that I've needed bleach, but I'm lightening it up a couple shades to a tone that is more flattering.

Not doing much this weekend, which is how I like it, lol.  Some grocery shopping. Tidying/cleaning the house some.

  • Glad your bday was a success @ei34
Good luck on that “interview” @short+sassy

I’m at my parents place this weekend with my 94 year old (WITTY & spry) grandpa, aunt and uncle from Canada. Yesterday, my brother and SIL came over with their 3 boys and they were so much fun. Loved spending time with them. I don’t know how they do it. They have 3 boys under 5 - none were twins lol (and she’s got another on the way!). Today may be some wineries and boating.  Tomorrow we’re testing out some intex “kyaks” (really canoes) if the water is nice.
Oh, I was also asked if I could be godmother to the youngest last night. Baptism is Sunday!! Thanks for the short notice (I’m godmother to the middle already).

  • Tomorrow is BK's bday party.
I'm doing groceries and leaving just before BK heads for gymnastics.
I told M he's gotta get the yard done today, because at least BBQ can be handled tomorrow morning.

I'm also bringing home boxes to move a bunch of crap. I'm planning on culling a bunch of BK's toys tonight also - I'll just box them up and see what she asks for. I think we're still into animals but more figurines less little people style. Now that's she's been getting those, I may be boxing some of the little people style animals.

I'm going to see if my mum wants some stuff - I know she's culling some stuff also.

Some of the bday decor will actually probably go into her room later. It's butterfly themed and I got some garland that will look great in her room later :)

My grocery list wasn't that bad considering I'm buying a bunch of stuff for the party too.
We are keeping freezer low because I have her cake to be in there.
In 2 weeks I'll be planning her lunch stuff a few days also. Less now more in August because she's home more.

    I can't believe she's done preK in 2 weeks.
  • I think the meeting went really well.  I didn't get an unfriendly vibe at all.  He was pleasant to talk to and it seemed like a fruitful meeting.  He asked good questions, to better understand the work I do.  Toward the end, he also asked me about what I like/don't like about working for this company.  He seemed to really listen to and focus on what I was saying, throughout our discussion.

I felt comfortable enough to tell him that, while I realized this was more a large scale company decision, but that I'd really like a hybrid WFH schedule.  Work a few days at home and a few days in the office.  He thanked me for that info and said it's important to know what employees are looking for.  He'd asked permission to take notes at the beginning of our talk and I saw him specifically write that down.

Yes, it is a large scale company decision.  But...((cough, cough))...he's an officer of the company and would be a part of those kind of decisions.  So it was nice to at least feel heard.  And, maybe the more people that tell the company this...especially people who leave for another company...,the more likely they will take some action on it.

  • so glad your meeting went well @short+sassy!  I need to get on my boss's calendar next week for a similar meeting and ask for more work.  I'm bored and he's doing 2 VP jobs at the moment.  I know he's super sensitive to my home situation and i appreciate it, but i definitely have capacity to take some things off his plate and also offer to help another department that i'm interested in (they have an opening, but i'm not sure i want to put in for that full-time, so i'm hopeful offering to help out will let me test the waters).

I'm in the office today and for the first couple hours was the ONLY person on my whole floor.  It was awesome.  H is cleaning the whole house today, i'll finish up little stuff while N is napping tomorrow morning.  We have a grad party tomorrow afternoon and then my parents and their best friends are visiting Sunday.  Friends have never met our kiddos and i'm excited to see them all!

glad you had a nice birthday @ei34!
Hope BK's party goes well @MissKittyDanger!

This is exactly what happened in our office. To many people were leaving after being asked to come into the office after 2 years, so we made a hybrid option (a little too late imo as some good quality people already left!). 3 days office, 2 home.  It’s also supposed to alleviate gas prices with less commute.

  • One more day of work. I feel like I’m clawing towards the weekend but at least I got more than 2.5 hours of sleep. Not too much going on otherwise. Trying to angle for a new position at work because nothing ventured, nothing gained and I’m back here anyways. Probably a 5-10% chance I’ll actually be considered but if I let myself be complacent and stagnant I’ll never get anywhere so I might as well try. I’m going to the gym tonight with SIL A and doing a hike tomorrow but after that I blissfully have no other plans for the weekend. Which is great because we have plans for like the next six weekends in a row.

  • @MissKittyDanger, good luck with BK's party!  It sounds like it will be great and she will have a lot of fun.  I'm glad she's feeling better for the weekend of her party, than she was last weekend.

  • Happy birthday @ei34! Good luck with BK's party @MissKittyDanger!

Not much going on with me. I'm in a holding pattern with most of my work so I did CPE today. My niece graduated from high school yesterday so I got to see it live streamed.
