Monday once again

Ian's remnants slammed us all weekend, it poured for two straight days.  My two older nieces slept over Friday night, all the kids had a blast and three of them stayed up later than me  :D hoping everyone else had enjoyable moments this weekend!

Re: Monday once again

  • @ei34 glad you're ok! No major flooding?

@missJeanLouise damn! Blindsiding is awful :(
  • When I say our weekend was absolute chaos, it was and we all survived.

Friday BK started being back and forth to the bathroom. She said her tummy hurt - figured maybe she ate too fast or something but she barely ate dinner.

As M & I are sitting in the living room, we hear the retching.
Poor kid is sitting on the toilet and puking on the floor.

We let her finish before we enter because we just want to keep mess to a minimum.
Get her upstairs to bath, she's back and forth to toilet.
Give her kid gravol. Idk how much stayed.

Finally it all exits and she's sitting curled in tub.
I get her out to rinse tub and refill because she's really not bathed.
After I get her back in, and rinsing her, you can tell she's ok because I can see her visually perk up.

    Worst. 30min. Ever.

We figure it was food poisoning but aren't sure what she

I ask her put a pull up on for bed time in case her tummy wasn't ok again and she couldn't make it to the bathroom
    {really I was half expecting a "shart" }

Saturday she wakes up perfectly fine but has a mild cough. We figure because being sick and give cough suppressant and juice.

GUESS WHO NOW HAS A JUNKY FKN COUGH!!

She's fine, but moody because her cough is bugging her.
We've swapped to the mucus and phlegm cough meds. Still could be related to food poisoning but who knows.
She's home today because the cough sounds awful and we want her to rest in case she's worse.
  • Oh gosh @missJeanLouise I'm sorry.  What a jolt and upheaval *hugs*
  • Oh my goodness @missJeanLouise!  What a shock - I'm sorry.

We had a good but very busy weekend.  Friday & Saturday spent getting the house and garage ready for our party on Sunday.  Sunday morning we went to church, breakfast and then picked up the last of the things we needed at the grocery store.  We had about 20 people over in the afternoon.  The weather was perfect - about 70 degrees with a slight breeze. Everyone was pretty much gone by 5 PM.  One friend couple stayed and helped clean up which was wonderful!  We probably would have left some things to do until today if they hadn't stayed.  Watched the end of the Packer/Patriot game and then went to dinner with them before they headed home.

I'm wiped out today.  I do have off on Friday as DH has a colonoscopy early.

Busy week at work and I have an interview the following week for a promotion in my area.  Fingers crossed.

  • Oh @missJeanLouise I'm so sorry - that's such a shock. Do you know where you want to move?  I don't know how any of us could help, but if there is something you need we are willing!  Even if it's just venting or processing.  Sending hugs.
  • Our weekend was nice, my parents visited.  We ended up ordering Chinese Friday night, then played outside a bunch.  Zoo on Saturday and the boys had fun showing grandma and grandpa all their fave animals then we came home and played outside and ordered pizza.  We also got lucky and found one Costco near us that had a couple Fireman costumes left in G's size (H and I got a 30 minute costco date this weekend, lol).   He's super excited.  N is going to be a fluffy chicken and he loves his costume so much it's adorable.  Sunday we played at the park for a long time then both boys crashed hard after lunch, my parents left and all 4 of us took a 3 hour nap!!!!!!  SO nice.

  • We were blindsided on Thursday when DH lost his job. So our timeline of moving back to the states has been moved up to December. <Sobs>
It will be okay, but we are leaving the best weather here to go to the worst weather there and we don't really own winter clothes anymore.
Oh sorry to hear this!! An international move is so stressful.
  • I'm so sorry @missJeanLouise! I hope you guys find a good place to settle down. No fun having plans put in chaos.

Weekend was good. DS2 was home to go to the Colts game with a friend. We just did stuff around the house that needed to be done. Today I have a stretch appointment hoping it will help my foot. Ladies night out tonight for my church. I'm taking garlic parmesan bites. It's a recipe I saw this weekend on Food network. It looks delicious.
  • @missJeanLouise, I'm so sorry to hear that!  I know it must be a major blow to deal with unemployment and moving back to the States.

@MissKittyDanger, Poor BK!  I hope she gets rid of her cough today.

I had a pretty good weekend.  The weather is so nice right now.  My H and I went to the Fried Chicken Festival.  It was alongside a lake we have in town.  Delicious, but outrageously expensive food and drinks.

Back to the grind today.  I am especially not in the mood, lol.

  • Sorry about BK @MissKittyDanger, on the fun level, that hit a zero.
@missJeanLouise I’m so sorry to hear that! Was it kinda expected? I may have you confused with another knottie but were there layoffs within the company? Or maybe I just assumed because you had a lot of American friends close by that were leaving and I kinda figured it was within the same company.  Either way (((hugs)))
@Casadena sounds cute! Fluffy chicken also sounds warm which = smart in the Midwest halloween weather
@VarunaTT babystep! Whenever I want to get back on track, I can barely do it all at once.  Day 1: eat better, day 2; more water, day 3: small workout, day 4: more effort in workout etc, etc.

Speaking of eating better, I went back to the homechef meal kits. I’m so tired of finding things to eat. I always feel myself going back to these things in the fall.  Comfort foods maybe? They went up in price late 2021, early 2022 but have not gone up in the last few months when inflation really hit! So I’m paying $63-$64 a week (but never get the expensive options). Also, most chowders and soups have given me three servings because those portions are huge. I said to myself no processed carbs in my kits but saw a butternut squash gnocchi meal and was like “alright, no processed carbs AFTER the gnocchi” lol.

  • Oh my gosh @missJeanLouise.  That's so stressful.  Good luck with getting everything together to come back to the US.  I'm sure you're having major mixed emotions.

Weekend was fine.  We had a low-key Friday night.  Saturday, my family came to the house to celebrate fall bdays (we have 4 in a month span).  Yesterday, we watched football and had an overall relaxing day.

Our friends from CA can't come on our bourbon trip as planned. Womp, womp.  He was told he has to go to a conference for his company (in Hawaii, wahh) that week.   DH talked to another friend of ours last night and they were just chatting in general. DH mentioned our friends dropping out on us and they said they'd be interested.  We have back-up plans in case no one can go with us, but it would be nice to have another fun couple to pal around with for the weekend.  Either way, we'll have a good time.  And our CA friends do want to still do a trip in the future.

I'm having a Monday.  I slept like garbage and had to be up earlier than normal.  DH was up super early to take FIL in for carpal tunnel surgery.  And then our hall bathroom sink drain stopper fell through the bottom while DefConn was brushing his teeth and flooded under the sink.  At least DH is off today to fix it.

I have next week off, thankfully. We're not going anywhere, but I am looking forward to the time off work.
  • Thanks everyone. It was kind of perfect timing because we were due to give notice on our lease this week. If we had already said we would stay, there would have been more pressure to stay.
@Casadena we will move back to my hometown to be near my sister and bff's. (And brothers and dad... But I have been missing my girls the most).
@CharmedPam we had several Australian friends go home recently. Only one was from the same company but he quit to go home.

    Oh no! I’m sorry.

I think you’ll be on the East Coast if I remember right. Happy to send some winter clothes if we’re remotely similar sizes (M,L 8/10)!
  • @missJeanLouise I'm so sorry!!

Well I had a pretty quiet weekend. Thursday morning as I was walking out to my car to go to work, I slipped down the stairs. Was immediately in pain. Tried to drive to work but had to turn around. Went to the ER - nothing broken but a "severe hip strain". Ice and rest for a few days. Went to an orthopedist today and she's sending me for an MRI since I'm still in a lot of pain. I've been told to keep off my feet and no driving for at least 4 weeks. Whomp whomp. Happy to not have to drive into work, but the whole not being on my feet and not driving thing really sucks.

Oh no!  I'm sorry to hear you are in so much pain.  I hope they don't find anything serious.  And you will be feeling better sooner rather than later.

  • oh no @climbingsingle i'm so sorry!  Hope you get relief soon.
  • @ei34, I am glad that you are safe. Please stay safe.

@missJeanLouise I am so sorry to hear that!

@MissKittyDanger I am glad that BK is better. What an awful weekend for her.

    @VarunaTT even little improvements help.

@climbingsingle best wishes for your recovery.

Quiet weekend for me. Visited my mother's grave on Sunday. Over Memorial Day weekend we will hold her unveiling (erect her headstone).
  • Work rant:

There are two new people in the Procurement department.  Previously, I was the only one.  One of the "new" people used to work here and he was the one who trained me.  But the other person is just new.  Though it sounds like he has a lot of Procurement experience.

My nose is already feeling out of joint with these interlopers who, I suspect, make more money than I do.  They are definitely being given more responsibility than I previously had.

But the new-new guy is my BEC (Bitch Eating Crackers).  I feel a bit guilty about it because he seems really nice. but there is something about him that's "off" and the littlest things he does bug me.  Like his cube is next to mine and he gets coffee 2-4x/hour in the morning.

But there are also big things he does that get on my nerves.  The one "positive" thing is he should be taking over some of my duties.  But, even though he takes copious notes, he can't seem to handle the simplest tasks.  So far, he has only been extra work for me.  I should be training him (again) on running the weekly reports.  But I'm busy and it's so much faster for me to do it by myself.  Maybe next week.

He also leaves one hour early every day.  Sometimes more.  WTF?!?!  I overheard him telling an engineer that he would try to help him before he left, but he was leaving at 4:15, because he'd gotten in 15 minutes early that day.  So, first off, he's supposed to be off at 5:30.  But, indeed, leaves at 4:30 every day.  But even if 4:30 was correct, that's not how we play at my office.  You don't get to make up your hours like that.  If you get in early, you don't need to start working until your start time, but you don't get to leave early either.  You have to work your posted hours.

We do have flexible schedules with flexible start/stop times, to an extent.  But once you chose your schedule, that's what it is for the whole year.

And I can't help but notice it doesn't work they other way around, ahem.  If he's 10-15 minutes late, he doesn't stay 10-15 minutes later.  No one really cares about 10-15 minutes but, when it's on top of leaving an hour early, it's extra eye-rolling.

He gets away with it because our supervisor works in a different building and no one really monitors our comings and goings (which is great).  But who does this guy thinks he is working a 35 hour week.  Seems really ballsy for someone that just started but, whatever.   It grinds my gears.

Do you have the ability to WFH after hours? I wonder if he worked out a deal with the supervisor to leave at 4:30 (possibly to pick up kids?) and catch up later?
  • @charlotte989875, we do have the ability to WFH.  But our company is very anti-WFH and I don't think he ever takes his company laptop with him.  I don't think he has any kids and he usually walks home.

It's possible, though unlikely, that he worked something out when he was hired.  Which would actually just make me even angrier at this company if that was the case.  They treat their employees differently, though usually it's the engineers that get the "special circumstances".
