Prudie day

Slowest.week.everrrr how's everyone else?

Re: Prudie day

  • Ugh, the rain is finally here and it’s bringing me down. House renovations are going - they had to shut off some electricity two days ago and it’s still not back (just our upstairs office, hallway, and M’s room) and it’s annoying. Hopefully when I get home today it will be back.
  • This week has actually felt really short.  The boys were out of school on Monday and G had a chemo appointment.  Tuesday he was home but i worked from home too because we had a flat tire on one car that needed to be replaced so we were running all over doing that.  Yesterday G went to school and only cried a little when it was actually time to go in the room (2 weeks ago he was starting a meltdown about an hour before we actually left the house that did not stop til we were gone from the school building).  Today, we had NO TEARS at all!!  He stalled a little leaving the house and needed to be physically handed off to a teacher, but he was chattering and smiling and i'm so thankful.

We have a company golf tournament tomorrow and i'm really excited about it.  I haven't been able to play in league the last couple years and it will be really nice to get out!  Bonus that it's during the workday :)

We're taking the boys to their fall fest at school saturday morning to paint pumpkins and look at their artwork - it will be adorable and fun. And convenient bc school is like a block away!

We've never done family pictures and I think we're going to try and schedule something last minute before the holidays.  We about 800 million pictures of the kids and kids with one of us, but it is very difficult to get one of all 4 of us!  One of H's college roommates in a photographer and just moved back to his hometown (coincidentally the same suburb we now live - his mom was our realtor!) so we're going to see if he could help us out.

2 questions:  How do people figure out good coordinating outfits for pics?
unrelated, but how do you all meal plan/shop?  We need to be better about cooking appropriate portions bc we rarely finish leftovers and i hate wasting so much food.  But neither of us have ever gotten in the habit of planning ahead for anything so i'm not sure where to start.
  • finally got the medicine I need for my ear from Walgreen's today.  They are still out of my regular every day nose spray.  I love this one pharmacy tech there.  I don't know where's she's from, but her accent is lovely and she is always so helpful.  She showed me where they kept it and told me when the next shipment was in.  Took the spray, it's GROSS, but it does seem to be having some effects.  Which are also making me miserable.  I think I'm going to make it a half day today and then peace out of work b/c 2 of my attorneys are gone (the high production ones), and the others will be fine w/out me for 4 hours.  Sounds like earthquake cracks in my skull with the pressure releasing.

My new gaming computer comes tomorrow and I am really looking forward to having a desktop again and gaming.  Other than that, SSDD.

I used to use emeals app and it was a wonderful app and I miss it.  Basically, you pick the meal plan you want, say how many people it's for, you can swap out recipes you don't think you'll like.  It creates a grocery shopping list from that, you can mark off what you already have, then, depending on how you want to use it, you can pull tha tlist into the Walmart shopping app (a few other grocery stores that I don't remember anymore b/c we didn't have them), grocery shop online, and then have it delivered.  This is what I did, b/c I wanted to cook more, but realistically as one human, I needed to simplify my process.  I would still be using it, but they combined vegan and vegetarian and I wasn't happy with the meal selections anymore.  IIRC they even had a "kid-friendly" menu plan to choose.

Now I use Fork Over Knives b/c it's vegan based and does very similar things to emeals, with better vegan recipes for me.  I also like it a bit better b/c it gives the receipe and says, "Hey, use the leftovers from this dinner for lunch tomorrow" in the plan.  Emeals does not do that so you'll want to plan leftovers appropriately.

For real the slowest week and I had Monday off!

for outfits- I Like a denim bottom and matching color top (blues show up well in pictures).  For meals - I dunno, I like my 2 people/meal homechef still.

i’m still in a cruise saga.  They went ahead and canceled my cruise (without the green light from me) made me beileve the future booking credits were full amount but when the credit vouchers transfer over to celebrity and they turn into something called fcc’s - celebrity takes off $100/person. And the snafu is “well the credit vouchers are full amount.  That’s all on celebrity who takes off the penalty.  Not us”. And they throw celebrity under the bus.

So talking to supervisors hasnt helped.  I’m glad someone on here told me to take notes because I’m writing corporate on that and including all mine.  And BBB and every review I can find.  Real slimeballs.

  • Love the picture @banana468 - coordinated but not matchy sounds like the vibe that would work for us too!

@VarunaTT thanks for the reminder on emeals - we used that a couple years ago and I liked it for sure.  I'll have to check out fork over knives too!

We're in the picky stage for eating at the moment - so I want to keep introducing new foods and balanced meals while also making sure there's something the kiddos like and ALSO only takes like 20 minutes to prepare!
  • @Casadena do you or H ever make a big pot of something on Sunday?  Once it's cool here I do that a few times a month...last weekend it was chili which I don't personally re-purpose for new meals.  The leftovers go into gallon freezer bags and frozen flat, then stored in the freezer for busy weeknights, a warm bowl of something that usually takes a few hours is a real treat on a random Wednesday.  This past Sunday it was a Sunday sauce (meatballs and sausage) - a few bags in the freezer like the chili but some went into the fridge and re-purposed this week twice: on Tues some of the sausages were pulled and heated through and I sauteed peppers and onions on their own, and we had sausage onion and peppers (on a bed of cauliflower rice for me, on heroes for the kids with sweet potatoe fries from the freezer).  And tonight we'll do make your own pizzas with cut up meatball and sausage as two of the toppings choices.  I do write this all out a week ahead.  This weekend I'm roasting a whole chicken and making chicken tacos on Tues and chicken tortilla soup next Thurs.
And I know you're thinking bish my kids are little they don't eat any of that.  When mine were younger and I was desperate (not saying you're desperate, I was desperate lol) some gems (quick to make and everyone ate them) - sort-of 7-layer dip (one layer of black beans plus one layer refried beans for protein, instead of salsa which they didn't used to like, a veggie layer -whatever veggies your kids like/you have in, diced for easy eating -and instead of sour cream my "creamy" layer was low fat ricotta whipped to a creamier consistency bc it's a better source of protein that sour cream.  Make-your-own-anything (taco toppings, pizza toppings, burger toppings).  Breakfast for dinner.  Make a pound of pasta over the weekend and serve it with whatever else you're serving, if all else fails there's that.

Nothing creative to add as far as coordinating family outfits.  I just go into old navy, children's place, wherever and buy matching or coordinating clothes.  Stbxh and I have never been in the picture, that would've taken some more effort.  I don't have an eye for it myself but do appreciate the coordinated-but-not-matching look!

    Not well lmao

    Kidding!

    Right now I have to anticipate 2 days a week when M is gone to the gym. Either we do something quick {pizza} or something M isn't really a fan of {spaghetti squash}

I always anticipate leftovers at least once a week as well. Half to clear out fridge, half because I'm lazy.

If you're into ordering, figure out a day - once or twice a week?
  • I haven't seen @mrsconn23 around this week so I can post Prudie unless someone is on it?

I do a lot of this kind of thing. We don't have kids, so it's a little easier. H isn't huge on leftovers, but repurposing leftovers into a new dish cuts down on waste and prep time. I like do fajitas on the grill, and then use the leftover meat for burrito bowls or salads. My challenge is always avoiding waste when we're trying to cook for only two.

But also I'm lazy AF, so I'll buy a rotisserie chicken and a bagged salad at least one night/week.
  • I had to take a sick day today.  I don't normally suffer from headaches, but I woke up this morning with one that was a doozy.  I could barely move because that just made the pain worse.

I've been feeling better for the last couple hours, but that is relatively speaking.  I still have a headache, but now it is a mild one.

I still need to get to Costco and get some scanning done.  I was hoping to get more done than usual, since I didn't work today.  But now I'm balancing, "Should I go soon and hope it doesn't get worse?  Or should I wait until I feel better?"  I'm thinking heading out at 3pm (90 minutes from now), might be a good balance.

    I was just thinking that.
Do we know if she's away?
  • @Casadena I usually say dark pants or skirt and pick a coordinating color. I buy the grandsons outfits that either match or are coordinated. This year (theoretically this weekend) I bought the boys the same plaid shirt. The twins have the same navy cardigan and their little brother has another style navy cardigan. They will wear khaki pants. One of the things the photographer told us last year was to have one bold print and everyone else pulls colors that coordinate with that. It worked out very well.

I can't remember if I said this earlier this week (I have puppy brain) but DS2 tested positive for Covid on Monday (symptoms started Friday). If he tests negative tomorrow he will come over Sunday to do the pictures we had scheduled. DD and her family arrive tomorrow. DS1 and DIL arrive Saturday morning. They really don't want to be around DS2 even if he tests negative because they are super cautious. Obviously if he tests positive again the pictures will be reschedule. Luckily the photographer said Thanksgiving weekend would work for her. That's the only other time everyone will be in town this fall. It won't be as pretty outside as it is now but what can ya do.

@banana468 that is a great family picture. I love Janie and Jack and stalk the sales all the time!
