Tired Tuesday

Actually not too tired, but I do wish it was Friday.  How's everyone else?

Re: Tired Tuesday

  • We're having a cold...more like chilly...snap today and tomorrow.  Not heater worthy, but I did put on a thick, fleecy shirt.  It's so soft and comfy!

My 10-year anniversary luncheon is today and I'm looking forward to that.  A real gift would be if they gave everyone the afternoon off after the luncheon, lol.  But, understandably, that is not something they do.

  • Actually tired. H and I had another long baby talk last night, probably our last for a while and it’s just taking a toll.

Also one of our Directors is leaving, they announced yesterday and there is zero plan and apparently zero urgency around developing one.
  • I'm so over this week already. Even with WFH, I just don't have the mental energy for this job anymore. The owners are so chaotic and create so many unnecessary problems.

But other than that, things are quiet and peaceful at home, but I do miss N and can't wait for him to get home already.
  • Last night was ROUGH.

I haven't had Chiquita evaluated for ADHD but I'm about ready to do it despite the opposition DH has given.  I may need to sit him down and have a respectful discussion on why he's resistant to having her envaulted.

Since 4th grade it's been an ongoing battle to get her to do her work.  Sometimes she puts it off and sometimes she just isn't organized.    But sometimes she just flat out lies and last night she told me she had a project done when she didn't.  I yelled.  Loudly.

And later on I felt like I was in the Corleone family when I told her that she betrayed my trust.  At bedtime she told me that she ignored me telling her no screens and that she played on her phone.  So now the phone goes with her to and from school and any practices but it's in my possession in the house.

I hate feeling the stress of not only making sure that my work gets done but I'm on everyone else in the house to do what's needed to.  And because people love to push me off I need to enter raging mom mode.

Ugh I'm sorry @banana468.  I'm starting to get the homework pushback and it sucks.  I've just worked all day and you've just been in school all day but yes, lets have a homework power struggle now.  I've had DS evaluated for ADHD in the past (at age 3, at age 4.5) and was told no, this is typical behavior for boys his age (very highly regarded practices too).  He's 7 now and I want to rule it out because I see a few signs...not every box is checked, but enough that I want another eval when he's old enough that we can't blame being a "typical preschool-aged boy".  Had his well visit over the summer, received the referral from our ped whom I adore and who agreed that she saw signs too...aannnd the soonest appointment this great developmental ped practice had was November 2023.  Ugh.  Made an appt, looking into good places with sooner availability, but I'm soo over specialists having months-long waiting lists.  Especially for pediatrics and especially pediatric neurological and mental health.  My kids have been seeing the same phenomenal counselor for the past year and a half; last month I asked if we could switch their weekly appointment from Wednesday to Thursday and was told that she'd possibly be able to accomodate them on Thursdays within six months or so.  So Wednesdays it is..

I hope that you can find a good developmental pediatrician with better availability, and that homework (and anything on the "this has to happen" list) becomes less of a struggle.

eta- and I can only comment as an outsider, my oldest is too young for a phone, but, I agree with your decision to let it remain in her possession when she is out of the house, and in your possession when she's home.  And have a CITJ talk with your H, an eval wouldn't do any harm.  I have many students with ADHD whose IEP accommodations reach into homework.  The math teacher wants to make sure that the students understand the concept that was taught in class, most learners are asked to complete ten problems for hw...a student with ADHD might receive 2-3 problems.  Across all academic subjects, not just math.  20-30 minutes of homework is a very different battle than 1-2 hours of homework.
  • Add me to having rough morning.
BK full on refused to get ready to leave so M was late on drop off.

Obv we got loud. She doesn't like loud but we explained loud wouldn't happen if she listened when we said to get ready.
I set her splash pants and jacket. It was easy.
She just ... idk what her deal was but she lost using her scooter after school and at bedtime M does a little video in bed with her. So she also lost that.
He may see what she wants to try and earn back first and give her chance to earn at least one back.

    *sigh* Some mornings ....

Also M has gym tonight, so I have to jump in the shower as soon as I get home.
I might do nuggets, so I can toss extras in the airfryer in the morning so BK has nuggets for lunch.

She's in 7th grade and starting to be after school and at places without us.  This is not out of the norm for kids her age but yesterday the phone was used for distractions.

She is a SMART kid.  But we've got to reprioritize.  We even tried to enter into the discussion that as she's older people aren't going to want to help her succeed the way her teachers do now and it's at this age that she's going to start to lay the groundwork for where she'll be placed in HS.

And she also has a tendency to be my mini Hermione and knows everything.  Again, this has 'future leader' written all over it but in the meantime it's 'your daughter would have a better average than 48% in science if she actually turned in her work.'
  • G was up for a long time in the middle of the night.  He's been waking up crying and will have a pretty epic meltdown for 20-30 minutes then take awhile to fall back to sleep and i have no idea what it is.  He also usually wants me only or me AND daddy, but never just daddy.  So i'm exhausted.  N slept 13 hours last night....i'm excited to do that someday.

I'm taking myself out for lunch today and getting a burger.  Then i'm being "good" the rest of the week because we confirmed family pictures on Saturday afternoon and i'd like my jeans to look a little more comfy!

I took tomorrow off awhile ago and am getting a haircut/color and having lunch with a good friend - can't wait!
  • I was way more tired yesterday.  I put myself to bed early last night.

It's super quiet around the office today because there's an off-site anniversary event for milestone celebrations and people are on fall break.  I should be getting more work done. LOL

SSDD otherwise.  It's cold and windy today and supposed to be back to the 70's this weekend.  My nose has been going nuts these past few weeks with the weather swings.

Sorry about the behavioral issues, Knotties :(
Congrats on your 10 year @short+sassy, enjoy that lunch.

SSDD for me.  I’ve been battling a dry flaky eye lid for about a month but the last few days it was dry, flaky and swollen so I went to the doc finally.  Today I woke up and it looked better, but she gave me a zpak that I hope clears it. Because make up is kinda my thing and I haven’t been wearing it for weeks now!

edit; speaking of allergies (which could be my lid problem) when was the last time @VarunaTT checked in? Thinking of you, V!

  • It must be so rough getting kids to do their homework.  Hubby has to deal with it as the teacher as well.  You can lead a horse to water ...

Bit dreary and cold here.  We had hail yesterday.  The changing weather gave me a bad migraine, so I left work early.  On Sunday I went for a fantastic hike though on the escarpment to see the colours, and that was a lot of fun.  The fresh air probably delayed the migraine.

  • Odd gift for my 10-year anniversary, lol.  It's a silver business card case with the company's logo (not sure if it's real silver).

Except I've never had business cards in my position because I don't need them.  I don't think most people at this company have business cards.  Though now I'm going to ask one of the engineers, out of curiosity.

I realize they need to give out standardized anniversary gifts.  But, sorrynotsorry, that's a really sh**ty one because they already know a decent amount of their employees don't have business cards.  I'm actually a bit insulted.  I'd rather have no gift at all than such a thoughtless one.

I dunno.  Maybe I'll have business cards at my next, better job.  I'll use it then, lol.

We have a book you can choose your gifts from! So yah no one would be stuck with a weird silver business card case. Sorry your gift wasn’t fun!
  • Right @short+sassy? Like for the price point they can give you a useful one! Like a company logo’d pen!
because you’ll want to write your thanks for taking the time out to interview me to the other companies with something!

Shit, even an freaking gift card would have been better. I'm sorry the gift was sucky.

Funny you should say that, lol.  A company logo'ed Cross pen was the gift for people with a 15-year anniversary.

The lunch itself was decent and catered.  And I appreciate that they acknowledge people's work anniversary every 5 years.  But, yeah.  I agree with you all that being able to choose a gift from a catalog, would be more appreciated by all.

At a previous company I worked at, also an engineering company, their Christmas gift to all employees was $250 to use in a catalog like that.  EVERYTHING had the company's logo on it, lol.  But at least you could choose the items you wanted.  It was mainly t-shirts and polo shirts, but they also had a few non-apparel items.

This is what we get for our 1 year. Then we pick out of the catalog at 5, 10, 15 etc.

ours is too.  1 year is a plaque only.  Then 5, 10, 15 is a plaque and a pick your gift.  I’m not bitter or anything but I picked out a really cool peice of art for my 5 year, but we hung it at my ex’s place and didn’t ask for it back.

So don’t get married, live in separate houses, and gift a hard earned workiversary gift to her hubby and then get divorced.  Or of you do, take it with you! (Even though I’m out of wall space as it is, hence why we decorated his walls).

    Again, not bitter 🤪

This year is my 10th and I think this traveler is going for a nice set of luggage!

I’m sad for you! But you have good gifts! My coworker just celebrated 30 years and she picked Tiffany earrings.
  • We get an extra day of holidays every 5 years, if I'm not mistaken.  I'll take that gift!

It’s so cute when Canadians call vacation “holidays”.  It’s like Sept 15th and I see all my Canadian friends post “having the best time on holidays!”

what? What Holiday is it? Did I miss a day to eat food mindlessly? 😆

To be fair, I think most of the world calls vacations "holidays".  I think all of Europe does, including the British.  So once you're talking about the British, that usually includes their common wealth countries.

I realize Americans are the weird ones who don't.  But, at least to me, it makes sense.  Because national holidays and vacation days are different types of time off, so they are referred to differently.

Though I assume for people who are used to it, it's obvious which one a coworker or friend is talking about.

I was thinking about that when an ad for Boden clothing flashed on my screen for 'holiday' clothing and it featured the models walking barefoot in flowy maxi dresses poolside.  I kept scrolling looking for the deep greens, tartans and sparkle and realized "Banana you're a dummy.  This is a British company and they're talking holiday like Bert talked about going on a jolly holiday with Mary."
