Monday, Monday

How was everyone's weekend?

Re: Monday, Monday

  • Weekend was busy but good.

Saturday BK went to gymnastics, and I got my tires swapped. Afterwards I took a nap because I had a wicked headache.
BK didn't wanna nap so M & I traded times and both of us napped separately.
I did BK's hair purple - came out more pink and mine is a fairly bright purple. So I'm redoing hers. I probably will do more purple and let it sit longer.

We did pumpkins and I ordered dinner because we had 2 pumpkins to do lol it wasn't doable to make dinner while that was happening.

We watched Frozen as our Saturday movie {BK picked - old favourite of hers ;) )

Sunday M went to the gym and we cleaned, then I went to my friend T's place with A
She was very surprised lol her kids recognized me but luckily didn't say anything.
T opened the door to A & I "Wtf are you doing here!" lol

Her hubby is now JTF2 {Canadian Military Special Forces} so he's still on training.

Afterwards I picked up M & BK and we went to IL's for dinner.

BK sounds croaky, but we're not sure. Incoming cold? Just an off day? Gave her phlegm meds this morning in case. She has zero symptoms and not even a sore throat or cough, so she went to school.
Obv that can quickly change, but she was sounding fine as morning went.
  • Oh no poor G @Casadena! All the good thoughts he’s okay and can come right home.
  • Fingers crossed on the job switch @Casadena and sending healthiest vibes to G

Weekend was nice.  Had an impromptu dinner party Sat night and a good amount of downtime on Sunday.  If I can get through high school Halloween (only four hours to go) I'm looking forward to ToTing with friends later.
  • Everyone was sick all weekend here. H went to camp Saturday but came home that night because our heat  went out. Again. It did this last year too but I thought we’d fixed it. I really don’t want to have to pay for a new boiler now. We can swing it but with the renovations it’s a big hit to our savings all at once.

We did get outside a lot since it was so nice. M loves the pumpkin stand in town so we went to see them again. He went back to school today so hoping we can see our friends for trick or treating tonight.
  • @Casadena, sorry to hear about G!  That's such a high fever and sounds really scary.  I'm glad they got his fever down and he was able to come home.  Good luck moving to another team.

I started reading through the materials I bought at my last in-town workshop.  I made good progress, but there is a lot of material to cover.  In a nutshell, it's about buying discounted properties after they have been foreclosed on, but before they hit the MLS.  I mainly bought it to buy vacation properties cheaper.  But they also have a lease option strategy for selling/renting houses that is different and better than how it is usually done for all parties.  So I'm intrigued by that also.

Walmart run on Sunday.  I also prepared a delicious and a bit decadent dinner on Sunday.  Pate on small baguette rounds for an appetizer and salmon with spinach for my entree.  With peach mimosas, though the peach came from a Monster Ultra as opposed to fruit, lol.  But at least there are no sugar/fructose grams that way.

I bought the pate at Costco on Thursday and was eating it up all weekend.  I know it's not everyone's cup of tea because of the strong flavors, but it was so good!

I also met a new neighbor.  She bought the house across the street from us a couple months ago.  My H had talked to her a few times and I talked to her adult son and his friend once.  But this was the first time I met her.  She was so nice and was really interesting to talk to.  She has a Black Cur which, despite it's name, is a medium brown color.  He was so sweet and funny!  He's a bigger dog and likes to smile, but his smile is scary because he pulls his lips back and you can see all his sharp teeth.  He looks more like he is about to snarl, but the rest of his body movements are friendly and happy.

  • I forgot it's Halloween today, until I was reading people's posts!  I hope you all have fun tonight.  Especially those of you with little ones.

Children don't visit our street and we're not doing anything.  My only celebration will be eating a few of those mini chocolate bars, lol.

We had a pretty good weekend. Saturday we ran a 5k at a nearby brewery. I was hoping to go faster than I have in the past, but getting a flu shot and a booster on Friday seemed to have worked against me. Oh well, you get a free beer at 8:30 in the morning no matter how fast you run it. Then we walked around the farmer's market, got breakfast, and then came home and read all afternoon. Yesterday was a huge stack of chores and errands, but I made chicken chili and we made a fire in the evening.

Tonight I'm dragging a chair and some candy to the end of the driveway for ToTs, since our driveway is long and steep. We haven't gotten a lot of kids in the past, but it's been pandemic the whole time we've been here. I'm hoping we get more this year. What time do kids normally come around when halloween is on a week night? Like 6-7?
  • It was a packed weekend.  Friday night Chiquita had soccer practice and we headed up to the "camp" for her GS troop just to hang out and eat and head home.  Saturday morning Chiquito had a soccer game and Chiquita had one that afternoon.  At the last minute Friday night I was asked to sub cantor so I got the music as a crash course Saturday and practiced for the 5:30 mass.  I looked at my fitbit later and my heartbeat was a solid 10 beats/min faster than normal.

Sunday we started off with soccer for Chiquito at home and then an away game for Chiquita.  Both kids lost all games.  For Chiquita's team, I'm noticing that she's on the "silver" team and the girls are YOUNG compared to the other teams.  She's turning 12 in Dec and the team is U15 so no one will be 15 this school year.  Some of the girls she is playing are bigger than me!  And after talking to some moms on the sidelines, the other teams are older girls.  Next year should be interesting after we see what growth they have by puberty hitting.

But oh boy the boy's team for Chiquito.  I don't like how his coach coaches.  It's a volunteer position but I see the guy as both new and inflexible and it's not a great combination.  The kids have had a losing season and the dads were on the sidelines SCREAMING.  Both DH and I agreed that they were an embarrassment with their yelling and sideline coaching and it's SO confusing for the kids to hear orders barked at them.    So note to you ladies - don't be that parent who screams at the kids on the sidelines!  If I heard the father yell, "Attack!" one more time I was considering asking him to stop but I didn't want to turn the game of our 3rd graders into dueling parents.

That's when we'll head out.  We're headed to the home of friends and will head out a little after 6 so it'll be starting to get dark.

Do you have a town FB page?  I'd post on there just to see but I'd say that at least here the trend of starting around that time is pretty consistent with the youngest possibly as early as 5:30 but those are rare.

I would think our town was high as a kite if they did this. Elementary schools don't even dismiss until 3:35 and Chiquito isn't off the bus until 4:10!
  • 3 is so early! What about the houses who have people living in them that aren’t working from home and can’t BE home!
So sorry about G @Casadena, what’s the situation like now?
@VarunaTT hugs to you.  So much going on, just take it easy!

I took 1/2 a day off on Friday for “crafty Friday”.  Finished my haunted house and went to a paint ‘n sip. I won’t bore you with a pic of the individual rooms, so I’ll give you a front and back.  I’m proud to actually FINISH something and finish it before goal (before Halloween).  Saturday I went to an apple orchard with my BFF and her family.  Weather was gorgeous.  We tried to make a local residential house that did a drive thru haunt on their property but the line was over 1 hour long.  The longest my friends have ever seen it! We passed and did a bon fire instead.
Sunday was a long drive to the family.  Met my youngest nephew.  Kinda sorta.  He did a lot of sleeping.  Tiny baby! But a premmie, so all in all, so doing well.  I played with the three older ones that could hold a conversation and it was fun.  TOTing tonight with them!

Different eras!  When I was a kid, nobody ToT'ed until after it got dark.  But most people headed out right after darkness fell.  You wouldn't get any more people after about 8pm.

  • Us too @short+sassy, we came home from school, had dinner first and then TOT’ing was after dinner! Usually 6-9ish, depending on how old you were.

@short+sassy the full title is Black Mouth Cur and usually has black on it's muzzle/eyes.  They are good dogs, smart, loyal, and solid.  I've had one before and that's what my neighbor has now.

I'm home today. My lungs woke me up, aching, around 3 am.  I'm sure it's b/c it rained yesterday so mold is probably higher than my body likes to deal with.  I've done 2 breathing treatments and I'm hoping for some relief.  Add to that, it's my father's birthday, anniversary of when breakups happened in 2 major relationships, and all of it was overwhelming and so I stayed home.  Still can't really hear out of my left ear, though the pressure is a lot better and there's not much pain anymore.  Just seems to take some time for the ear system to recover.  I honestly kinda feel like I'm falling apart, but I know the feeling will pass, so I'm just sitting with it.

Didn't do anything this weekend except sit and home and entertain myself here.

Thanks for the breed name correction.  That makes more sense the word "black" is only referring to small parts of their face.  I can see why you like the breed.  My H and I were big fans after meeting that sweet guy.

I'm sorry this is a rough day for you.  I hope tomorrow is much better, physically and emotionally.

  • 3pm is insane on weekdays!  It make little sense to me, either
  • 3 pm is crazy for TOT! Most people aren’t even home from work or school until 4 or 5. I always thought ToT was from 5/6-9.

I am sick and annoyed about it. I finally had a four day weekend and I had a bunch of plans I was excited about and then nope. Sick. Mostly a sore throat, headache and malaise, but now on day 5 I’m getting a cough. My lymph nodes are pretty swollen too. If I’m not better in two days I’ll have to go in.

    I hope G is okay @Casadena

  • 3 feels early for a weekday.  The last couple years, being Saturday and Sunday, we did head out around 3, but yesterday we arrived at the local playground to meet up with some friends at 4pm.  ToT'ed until about 5:30 when the kids crapped out, but houses were running out of candy starting around 5.  Depends on the area- a 4pm start time works by me - a lot of teacher moms / SAHMs / gently employed moms, and dads who are either in the trades and home by 2:30 or dads with the option to WFH, so everyone was out there by 4.

I left a bowl of candy out, and when we returned it was about 2/3's gone...at 7pm when I started the bedtime routine I took it in and turned off the porch light.
  • Did you get a lot of TOT’ers in your area or see a lot if you were out? I’m in a lot (ALOT) of Halloween lovers fb groups, and they all said the same thing about the crowds this year! Barley any.
We hit the same streets as last year and noticed not as many houses were open - but still a lot of kids imo. I’m wondering if because last year it was on a weekend and Mon-Thursday nights aren’t as “lively”?
I hope TOT’ing is not a downward trend?

  • @CharmedPam the block we go down (and then back up) is a known block, the houses are close together and a good 90% participate, so it's a good bang for your buck.  Older kids with more stamina even hit its side streets which all participate too.  But students from my school (neighboring school district, maybe a 10min drive) all know about it and ToT there too...even my sisters a few villages away know about it, so I'm not surprised candy is gone by 5-5:30.
Although we live a couple blocks away from "the block", we had way more trick or treaters than usual.
I did notice a lot more events leading up to Halloween this year- there have been trunk or treats, parties and other candy-getting events these last few weekends. We only did one trunk or treat, it gets to be too much and I think takes away from Halloween.  I feel like the holiday is growing if anything.
  • I doubt it's on a downward trend.  I'm thinking it's lower than normal just because it was a week night?
  • @CharmedPam That "haunted dollhouse" is absolutely amazing!  You did a fantastic job!

  • We had a grand total of 3 kids. Way down from normal. Needless to say the four adults at our house ended up eating most of the candy this morning lol

I don’t know who “they” is…. But this sounds like it’s based on science.
