May the odds be ever in our favor.
Just voted. 🤞🏻
Students are off from school today over here but teachers have professional development.  It means boring repetitive lectures but also a fun team building activity or two (I know they’re very love/hate, can’t help it, I think they’re fun), and my work friends and I are ordering lunch from a local pizzeria (exciting for me bc I am that person who brings lunch from home 99.7% of the time). Oh, and I’m in sweats.  So can’t complain.

Eta- thank you for the well wishes for DS! He’s a trooper, this is not his first or last medical snafu.  Finally got an appt with a pediatric orthopedist who takes our insurance for tomorrow, hoping for a more comfortable cast/sling situation then!

Re: Election Day

  • I'll be voting after I workout this morning - hopefully lines will have shortened a bit from the on the way to work  crowd. Fingers crossed for outcome!
  • I'll be voting after I'm done with work. N and I are going together. Super nervous about the governor race in NY. Ugh.

Had an interesting night. Realized that the kitchen sink had been leaking for god knows how long. I opened up the cabinet underneath to grab something and there was a huge puddle of water. Cabinet is thankfully mostly salvageable but N is running to HD to get a new faucet. Also thankful I had thrown something in the crockpot so we had an easy dinner.

Woke up early to see the lunar eclipse this morning. Very cool!
  • Early voted last week, but I'm excited to see that the polls are crowded here today. I can't with Hershall Walker. Just WTF.

I have a half day vaca on Friday and decided that I should get a massage. I haven't had one since pre-pandemic and I don't even know where to go anymore. So I'm doing that instead of working this morning.

I also got up to try to see the eclipse, but it's super cloudy here and I couldn't see anything. Boo.
  • I’m nervous about the governor race too @climbingsingle with the current state of things nationally I really need NY to remain decent as far as rights

Illinois also has a tight governor race.  On one hand we have our current crook of a governor but this opponent is against abortions for any reason and pro gun, so…. It’s like what evil should I vote for? I’m going at 10, hoping it’s after breakfast but before lunch and not so bad. But this location never has been.
I’m testing out my $14.99 mouse jiggler today. Life changing.  I told me aunt (who also works from home and was inquiring about it) that my old school system, a watch under the mouse, wasn’t always working for me. I can take naps, do things around the house, or even leave the house with 100% certainty that people will think I’m at my computer!

Pizza sounds good @ei34! I want some now but I have my homechef meals to make :(
Crappy about the cabinets @climbingsingle, hopefully no real water damage?
@MyNameIsNot I love love love the pictures I’m seeing of the eclipse.  I was not that motivated and am Ok with that.

  • Speaking of voting, idk how much you guys hear about Canadian stuff - specifically Ontario.

Short version, our provincial government sucks.
    CUPE - support staff union in schools - basically said "our contract is up, we want the 11% increase we deserve" {they had received 0% wage increase for like 10yrs}
    Government said no.
    Cupe said Fine we strike.

Government passed a stupid fkn legislation saying they can't strike.
Cupe said "Fuck around and find out" - called it a protest ;)

Ford - premier - and Lecce - educational minister - basically back tracked. Pulled legislation back if Cupe would go back to negotiations.

I desperately this will force an election because of a "no confidence" vote.

FYI he got into power again because it was the lowest turn out in years back in June.
I think they fucked up personally, because a lot of mailers but Covid was having another spike so idk.
  • I hate the our Governor race is actually close in NY. M and I voted this morning on the way to daycare. He got a sticker and so did his Brother Bear he Carrie’s everywhere. Busy day at work but glad I’m only working 3 days this week!
  • @CharmedPam I'm Pritzger all the way and don't feel even a little bit guilty about it!  I just can't with Bailey - what an ass, i just hope the Dems prelim strategy worked and Pritzger can beat him handily. I need to finish filling out my ballot and drop it off.  H is going while N naps.

Both boys are home with us today and i'm off work. N had a fever yesterday and likely RSV (Dr. appt this morning to confirm). so many of G's teachers have Covid that they can't staff the room so they're closed the rest of the week.  Hopefully N at least is good to go back tomorrow since he doesn't have a fever today so far.  I'm doing a couple things for work upstairs and they're both screaming and crying at each other and for mommy.  It's going to be a long day.

Looking forward to a week when both boys are at school all 5 days, all day.

H has some good job leads and is actually getting excited about going back to work.  Hoping he'll be able to start somewhere soon!
  • Not that I needed motivation to vote.  But one of my uber-Republican coworkers is wearing an "I Voted" sticker this morning.

I'm going out to lunch with a coworker friend.  We are going to an Israeli restaurant.  I was there once before and it was pretty good.  I get to-go food a lot for lunch, but don't usually go out.  I'm looking forward to it!

I'm also meeting with a realtor after work.  There are two I want to interview and she is the first one.  I'm not totally sure what to expect.  I have a few questions.  What I really want to know are comps, but I realize I officially need to hire someone and give them the listings before I'll receive those.  Or at least I assume that is how it works.

I hate the politicians in Louisiana.  For anyone familiar with this South Park episode, I always feel like I'm choosing between a "douche" and a "turd sandwich".  It feels like no one really cares about their constituencies.  Locally, they are terrible.  There are HUGE problems here.  HUGE!  But it's easier for them to work on piddly stuff, so that is what they do and only give lip service to the rest.

I wish our mayor was up for re-election.  There was a grass roots effort to try to get her re-call on the ballot but, unfortunately it failed.

There is a Senate race, but the Dem candidate has almost no chance of winning against the incumbent.  I just read an article that they are expecting it to be "close".  Ah!  Bless their hearts!  I would be excited if there was at least a run-off election.  We're an odd state in that the winner has to win by a certain amount (I forget what that is) or there is a run-off between the two closest candidates.  Unfortunately, I doubt there will even be a run-off.  We are just way too "red" for that.

TBH, I probably shouldn't even care about the state and local stuff.  With any luck, I won't be living here much longer anyway (please, please, please let this be true).  But I can't help myself, I do.

Oh, I have definitely been paying attention!  And they passed this legislator WHILE STILL IN TALKS.  It was pre-emptive, not a last resort!  That is so scary.  And then Lecce went on TV and wouldn't answer any questions about when they put the law in place and how they had 3 YEARS to figure out what to do since they knew it was a problem before the pandemic and did nothing but suddenly can pass laws restricting worker's rights in less than a week.

Look, I'm someone that, even if I don't agree, wants to respect the government in power.  I know the Ford government has done some good.  But I cannot fathom how when he pulls stuff like this he got in AGAIN.  And part of it, hate to throw everything at Trudeau, is Trudeau's fault because before he got elected way back when he promised voter reform.  And we desperately need it because my vote counted for nothing in the last provincial election due to how it is set up.  And I'm tired of not having a voice, because that often happens.

If Ford doesn't get his act together, the teachers will strike in the spring.  Not having a cost of living raise for ten years has had its toll, especially with inflation being what it is.

Yeah I mean I guess I shouldn’t say we have a close race here, because I’m sure Pritzker’s got it in the bag, but it’s terrifying if it did happen to go the other way.

@VarunaTT, don’t feel nervous - I hear mail in and early voting was up ALOT compared to past years.
That being said, this was the first time I had to wait at my place.  Not long, three ahead of me, but in the past tumble weeds have rolled past me.  And sometimes I would leave the office mid day to vote since it was so close to work & home. Sometimes it was after work too.

    Right!? Lecce is a douche.

Honestly, I don't think Trudeau can do much. Him changing the vote system wouldn't change the provincial - just federal. Also he said very clearly he doesn't support what Ford is doing and apparently he can't do much because Ford is doing provincially and Trudeau handles federally.

Ford is already in hot water because he won't speak about the convoy in the trial. Jim Watson already did and he and Trudeau cannot understand why Ford keeps avoiding.
If any of this doesn't push a "no confidence vote" idk what will
  • @CharmedPam I would usually agree with you, but MO makes it hard to vote early and/or absentee vote.  MO makes it hard to do anything except get grassroots legislation on the ballot (which is the only way some of our best legislation has come up to vote and passed) and this legislature is trying to kill that power too.  It's ridiculous and I hate it.
  • Oooooh maybe that was an IL report? @VarunaTT.  I sometimes only pay 1/2 attention to the news.  Oops.  Good Luck MO!

  • Sorry to hear about DS’s elbow! @ei34

Not too much going on over here. Work is really busy. Everyone has the flu. All Flu A so far though. At first I was just checking people with body aches, chills, fever, etc for flu but early yesterday morning I pulled an experiment with myself and tested people whose only complaints were “cough and congestion” and yup, flu positive. So now everyone is getting a flu test. Lol. I hope we get in the test kits soon that do Flu and Covid together.

Otherwise SSDD. Work is crazy because of the flu. It’s raining here in CA and I hope that doesn’t prevent people from voting. Lord knows no one can handle the rain. I had three people show up yesterday for evaluation after car accidents in clinic. Denied paramedics and then came to see me.  Please stop coming to see me with that nonsense and go to the ER where you belong.

  • Heyyy!  I'm back and got my vote on before work today.  I waited about 20 min.  It wasn't too bad, but I was glad to see the turnout for an 'off' cycle.  Now we wait.

KY was awesome.  We toured 4 distilleries (KY Artisans, Angel's Envy, Maker's Mark, Castle + Key) and visited one (Buffalo Trace, we've been there before for a tour) that we didn't tour.  We have ALL the bourbon now, plus merch (tshirts, rocks glasses, stickers, and magnets).  We ate some amazing food, drank all the bourbon drinks, and the hotel was really nice.  We got an upgrade to a massive 1br suite which made hanging out with our friends that came with us easier because we had a space to chill.

I'm so glad I took yesterday off.  DefConn had to have two teeth extracted in the afternoon (one had a HUGE root) and I needed the decompression time.  I worked on stitching the pillowcases I bought for a new project and catching up on Real Housewives.

Thankfully, today hasn't been too bad work-wise.  I don't feel near as overwhelmed as I did after my week off during fall break.
  • We took off Friday and went to WI to visit friends for the weekend.  It was very windy and rainy but we had a good time.

Work doesn't stop while I'm gone so spent yesterday and last night catching up.  My promotion starts tomorrow.  Likely won't change my day to day work right now but it's coming lol.  Leadership has some plans they are going to reveal at a retreat next month so we'll see how that works.

Trying to figure out Thanksgiving plans. We will likely host but hoping some "extended" family has other plans - is that bad?

  • I'm on a sub-reddit called SameGrassButGreener.  It's people thinking about moving to other parts of the country and looking for feedback.

Someone asked the question today if this week's political election will affect someone's decision to move/not move.  The replies have been really interesting!  It is a pivotal decision for a lot of people.  Even down to a particular person being elected (or not).

No one was a Republican, looking to move to a less liberal state.

I picked up that for WI, Madison and Milwaukee tend to be liberal cities.  But the state is red.  A few people corrected that and said WI is a lot more progressive than it gets credit for.  But the Republicans have done such significant gerrymandering there, that it's electoral votes are always red.

At dinner tonight, I asked H where we could move if Trump gets elected again in 2024. He said Canada would keep us closer to the grandsons. I don't know but I 'll be so depressed if he is elected again. Our country won't survive that IMO.

Just fyi we have our own issues but not Trump level.
I'm still pro moving to Canada :)

I could do it with very little paperwork :)
