Chilly Tuesday

Small change at work (not better, not worse, just different) has left me with rarely more than a minute to hop onto TK, so I've been in lurk mode this last week.  I'm glad to have seen so many nice Thanksgiving weekends were had. Sending vibes and comfort @levioosa and @MissKittyDanger (..and someone else I think?  I'm the worst lurker)

DD began feeling better last Tuesday evening - kept her home Wednesday to be safe even though she'd taken two negative at-home Covid tests.  Brought her to the pediatrician where she tested negative for Covid again, as well as negatives for RSV, flu, strep...but positive for adenovirus.  She's had it before but years ago as a toddler.  Then sister and her whole family got pink eye on Tuesday, then other sister's kids all had sore throats.  We returned to our 2020 Thanksgiving - we gathered masked in my parents' backyard for a brief hello.  But it was nice.

Weekend was relaxing, full of much-needed downtime and a bit of decorating for Christmas.  Agree on the underwhelming Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals.  20% off here, 30% there...and I feel like the bigger deals are for bigger ticket items.  I never need a new tv.  Can I get 50% off my physical shopping cart at the grocery store or gas station or a month of one of my kids' activities? Lol..

Re: Chilly Tuesday

  • It's a bit better today. We've been in and out of meetings regularly.

    Short version our company is merging with another. We were suppose to find out awhile ago but legal and tax hiccups messed up timing.

    So Friday my boss texts me - cuz I'm off - saying I need to join staff meeting that morning {she apologized 3x for making me do this on my day off btw lol}
    I join and she drops bombshell.

    Not only that, I need to come and meet people about my offer that day. No real time to digest/process.
    I had to bounce from meeting early because parent-teacher interviews but after that I was home for an hour before going to office. BK came and her bff is my coworker lol so that helped.

    Anyways I've had anxiety about this because M has dealt with similar stuff 3x in 6 years.

    Yesterday we had individual meeting and because I was nervous they bumped my offer by 2k today.

    So wow .... yes it's been a lot lmao

    Next week we have meetings again and I'll share more details because all of this is official as of next Monday {hence my not saying company names etc}
  • Boo to all the thanksgiving sickness.  I know so many people who missed or had to alter plans this year due to illness.

    I only bought stuff from bath and body works for black Friday.  It was buy three, get three free with 20% off your whole order.  I mostly got wallflowers and some stocking stuffers for the kids.

    I'm tired af today.  I gave up on the Colts game last night and went to bed to watch Real Housewives on my phone, LOL.

    It's Tuesday. Blerg.
  • oh wow @MissKittyDanger that is so much to process that fast!  Hope it turns out to be a good move for you.

    @ei34 i'm glad everyone is on the mend even if not 100%!
  • My eyes are going nuts all of a sudden at work - red, itchy, watery.  My sinus allergies have been bad since we got back from Iowa - maybe i'm just allergic to Illinois? I'd love to move back to IA someday but it's not in the 5 year plan for sure.

    My official start date for the new job is Jan 3, I can't wait!  I could have done earlier, but i'm out for most of the last 2 weeks in Dec and thought it would be annoying to train and learn for a week, have 2 weeks off and then come back so i'll just start fresh in the new year!

    I have no energy or desire to do anything Christmasy this year.  I'm annoyed at shopping, buying presents, giving ppl ideas for myself, etc.  I'm pre-emptively annoyed at my IL's bc they'll go extremely overboard even though we've asked them not to.  Just very scroogey this year.  That's my usual MO but it's especially intense this year.

    I’m also in Scrooge mode. I’m annoyed at all the “what do you want for Christmas” texts from my in laws. I know they mean well but like we’re literally just send back and forth links or ideas. It just doesn’t feel super genuine. Like if you know me well enough to get me a present then just pick something out. I’d appreciate that WAY more than me telling you exactly what to get and you getting it. I wish we would move to a draw a name from the hat way with gifts but we won’t.
  • @MissKittyDanger, it sounds like the job will be better!  At least there is a nice raise and more opportunities.  But I've had it happen to me also and I know it can be scary and feel uncertain.  Because, even if your coworkers stay the same, it can be a different corporate culture and benefits package.  Which, if you are already happy with those things, usually means it's more likely to be a worse situation.  So far, so good though!

    We have almost decided on Ocala, FL for our next move!  I'm going to make calls today and possibly tomorrow, to inquire about insurance rates and insurance competition.  Maybe a realtor to talk about crime rates/neighborhoods and STR legalities.  Things like that.  But, at least from my research online, I think all of that will be fine.  The property insurance is the only potential hiccup (crossing fingers).  Otherwise, that area checks so many boxes.

    If it looks like a "go", we will venture forth on a reconnaissance mission over Christmas.

    Our realtor's photographer is going to some of our rental properties tomorrow to get pictures for the listings.

    I keep thinking to myself things like, "In a few months, we might already be gone!"  And, "Last Thanksgiving in this house!  My next kitchen will be bigger."  I'll definitely miss the charm and architectural features of my house.  But I will not miss the smaller size and too little storage.

  • @short+sassy  there are definitely more benefits because it's a bigger company - more space to move and more opportunities {they have different benefits also}
    We're all nervous about the small company to big corporate but our office lease is another 1.5 year so that won't change likely.
    New company does have another office near my house, so that's also a mini perk if I have to move offices.
  • My eyes got so bad that I left to go to urgent care.  Definitely viral conjunctivitis (pinkeye).  Working at home this afternoon with lots of rest for my eyes.

    I'm on abx for pinkeye now. I just had it an we can do OTC drops but mine might be viral and the meds are just treating symptoms.
  • @VarunaTT, thanks for the update!  I was wondering how the new job was going.  I'm so excited for you that everything is going so well.  It's great their holiday party is this week.  That should be a good opportunity to get to know people better, in a more relaxed and social setting.

  • That job sounds like the perfect fit @VarunaTT yay!
    right @ei34? The sales this year were so lackluster. And I have a feeing we’ll see discounts up through, what? January? They definitely clear “end of the year”
    merchandise at most places.
    @missjeanlouise, if your life was a tv series you’d have a lot of cliffhangers.  Are they?  Or aren’t they?  What is going on!!! Lol

  • I finally got everything back into place (beds made, bathrooms cleaned) after having all the family here for Thanksgiving. I finished Christmas decorating today. I'm hosting a get together next Monday night so wanted to have everything done. My hips are giving me quite a bit of pain. I had a stretch session yesterday and a massage today. The masseuse told me that my hip joints are really tight. It hurt so good when she was working on them. Hopefully that will give me some relief.

    The wind has really picked up and a cold front is coming through. I 'm glad H finished the outside decorations. I also hope they survive the wind.

    I see an early bedtime in my future this evening.
  • Lurking this week, trying to keep up!  Busy at work, but I booked a trip with my parents in January - very exciting!

  • @CharmedPam at least these are good cliff hangers. Everyone is happy and  healthy. It's a win-win situation either way. If we stay we have already spent the money sending stuff home, next time will be a breeze. DH is trying to negotiate the company into paying us some of the costs they are saving by hiring someone already in the country (airfare, hotels, cargo shipment). All our tickets are refundable or at least able to be changed. We'll have another year or so to save and live the good life. If the paperwork doesn't go through, we will go home. Everything is already planned and paid for. Either way is easy.

    @VarunaTT glad you are feeling so good about your new employer. Nothing like a fresh start to improve ones outlook.

    @charlotte989875 and @Casadena count me in the scrooge club. Though honestly, I love it in theory. I love decorating and shopping and so many things about it. But I hate the Expectation of it all. I have seasonal depression, especially when I was younger, and I always resented being made to feel like I was ruining everyone's holiday if I didn't want to wear their silly hats or do anything besides sit under a blanket.

    Yes!  At least you are headed off to warm weather in the middle of winter!

  • Fun coincidence I just discovered.

    I'm selling those two duplexes next to each that we rehabbed back in 2019-2020.  I was on the tax assessor's site looking up historical info on them for my property disclosure.

    Their new construction was completed on Nov. 20, 1968.  That's my birthday!  Except I was born 5 years later, lol.
