Wednesday

The day.  Not the #1 watched netflix series.

My parents got a free Noreign cruise from Harrah’s, @short+sassy, that has to be used by August and we’re thinking of going! I suggested Alaska or Eastern Canada/NE coast, but the port fees for these were $300-$400! My parents used one before (Spain) and it was only $75 back then. They obviously don’t want to pay $800 for a “free cruise” so I’m not sure if we’re going :( I mean, I’d pay $400 for a trip, especially to those two locations, but I’m just one person and they have to double that price. Do you mind me asking how much your admin/taxes & port fees were? There were two cruises that left on/around my birthday and I’m like - fun birthday “present” for me! And then…
I had to get out a calculator to determine what birthday # it would be, because I didn’t remember how old I turn next year!!’ Eeek.  most likely because I always joke about being younger when people ask - I have now forgotten my real age lol. It would make me feel better if you all told me I wasn’t the only one who had to do math when people ask.

Re: Wednesday

  • @CharmedPam, I think the various "fees" I paid were $250, but I don't totally remember.  It was a lot of ports, though!  Six.  That cruise left/returned to Barcelona.

I also had to pre-pay the tips, if I wanted the free drink package and/or upgraded dining.  I think that was an additional $300 for the drinks and $50 for the dining.  Something like that.  But both of those "freebies" are optional.  There is also a non-alcohol drink package that I assume was also a free perk that the tips are less for it.

As an aside, that was one thing I found surprising.  I had been on a cruise in over 10 years before this last one.  But the other ones I went on had free non-alcoholic beverages.  Apparently that is not a thing anymore.  The only non-alcoholic drinks that were free without having a package were iced tea, tap water, and coffee.

Something for them to keep in mind if they don't already know this.  But I think Norwegian is still giving all their freebies with these casino vouchers.  Which include either totally free or BOGO flights, if the flight is booked through them.  I get their promo e-mails, but it's hard to keep track of which promo they are running when, lol.  But I know it's at least BOGO flights.

I'll be booking my next free Norwegian cruise in the next 1-2 weeks.  I'll pay more attention and report back, lol.  The trip I'll be booking leaves out of NOLA and goes to (I think) 4 ports in the Western Caribbean, so still a totally different itinerary from them unfortunately.

I often need to do math to figure out my age.  It's probably been that way since I was in my 30s.  You are not alone!

  • I know I should say something, but I always hate being confrontational with people who are nice and aren't really doing anything that wrong.  But are still being super annoying.

The guy who has the cube next to mine doesn't listen to his music over headphones or ear buds.  Wtf (sigh).  He does keep the volume way, way down.  But I can still hear it.  Ironically, I wouldn't mind if the music was louder.  But the super low volume, from my perspective, sounds like static that is just above my hearing level.  Playing it louder is out, because then he would be disturbing other people

  • Free drinks (aside from what is offered at the buffet) is not a thing anymore, correct. $250 isn’t bad! But we’re all drinkers and to not have that pkg included would be a hard no for all of us: My cruise wouldn’t be free either because they only got one voucher (usually they BOTH get one but my Dad has been slacking last year!) but diamond members do get cruises at a discounted price too fyi (although the cyber Monday deals looked really discounted to me!).  Problem is, I’d be going alone and probably paying double occupancy anyway. Single life problems.
oh yeah any hint of music would be annoying! Hear you loud and clear. Unless it was Reba or Dolly 24/7.  Then turn the beats up, my friend!

Hmmm, I'm a diamond.  I wasn't aware that entitled me to discounts on Norwegian also.  But yeah, Norwegian has been running 40% off...sometimes even 50% off...sales for a long time.  Unless the diamond discount is on top of that, I'm sure it doesn't compare.  Uh-oh!  I may not be this tier level next year.  I have "slacked off" this year, lol.  Yikes.  I need to look into that because there's only one month left in the year.  Not worth it if I'm far off.  But if I'm close, I don't want to lose those perks.

My H and I actually really want to take an Alaskan cruise.  But the voucher I currently have is only good for a cruise taken through March 2023.  Alaskan cruises don't sale at that time of year.  And nor would I want to go to Alaska in the dead of winter!  I wish my voucher was good for a trip booked through August.

Last year, sometime in January, I got an e-mail for a free cruise.  But I didn't use it because I was already booked for the other one in June.  I'm really hoping they send me another one this January.  I could use that one for an Alaska trip later in the year.

Edited to add:  That's the thing.  Even if it was music I liked, I couldn't tell.  It's soft enough I can't hear the words or really much of the tune.  It just sounds like an indistinct, undercurrent of noise.  But we do share our taste in music!

I'm not really a souvenir person.  But I got two from Branson that are both related to Dolly.  One is a rubber duck with the logo for her Stampede dinner show (I do collect rubber ducks).

The other was a glittered decorative travel mug with a classic convertible drawing that says, "Gas be so high, I saw Dolly riding shotgun with Jolene."

  • All this is making me want to cruise somewhere!

Stormy and gloomy here, pretty SSDD
  • Off to a rocky start this morning. I have a wide open schedule which can be a good thing, or a bad thing. They’re already adding patients so I didn’t get to chart prep. Then I go to start the car this morning and…nothing. Dead. And we just put the truck on non-op with no insurance. I’ve been driving my dad’s car to save money but ugh. Now I might have to replace the battery.

Otherwise, SSDD. Waiting for the rest of my Christmas presents to arrive. I have a few more things and then I’m done thankfully. Our Christmas tree is up and I’ve wrapped the presents I have so it wont seem like such a daunting task at the end of the month to do all of the wrapping at once.

A cruise sounds nice. I just don’t want to work any more lol.

Today has turned into WW-Travel Edition, lol.

Our weather has been surprisingly great.  We hit a chilly patch for about 10 days earlier in the month and I thought, "Winter has finally arrived.".  But then it got warm again and the last couple weeks have been perfect temps in the 70s.  No heat or a/c needed.

I hope the sun comes out for you!

i need this in my life! My friends and I are big jolene fans! Lol

sucky start @levioosa, I’ve noticed my own car taking a bit to start and you reminded me that I should go tomorrow to get it replaced before a tow is needed.

  • Yesterday was a weird almost 70 degrees and today is going to be lucky if it breaks 30.  Yay, Missouri.

Still at work, still doing well I think.  Lots of new stuff to try my hand at.  I'm starving for lunch though and can't really think of anything else except what I'm going to eat though.  And I really want to eat something unhealthy or fast food, even though I have food at home.  There are 2 downtown places I LOVE, but wasn't ever convenient for lunch before and they are now!  But I have 2 more weeks until a paycheck, so I really do need to hoard money.

Otherwise, no big news.  I've been getting up quite easily in the mornings, so I'm about to add my rowing machine back in and hopefully get some of this stress weight off of me and get my muscles back to feeling useful and strong. Have some new computer accessories and shoes coming.

I gave mom her Christmas present early.  She was saying that she wasn't excited about reading anything she had, and I had bought her a book I knew she'd really like.  She seemed excited about it.  I think she's doing okay.  The only thing that worries me is that I can see her starting to check out of conversations b/c she can't hear very well.  Dad used to do that.  I didn't like it in him and I don't like it in her.  So, I am trying really hard to make sure she's staying engaged with the world.
  • very cold today after almost 60 degrees?! yesterday.  My eyes feel a little better after a few rounds of the drops.  Still very sore and i get a headache if i'm looking at my computer too long so i'm taking frequent breaks.

I forgot how much I love being able to cook and eat at home during the workday.  I made a decent breakfast this morning, a veggie stirfry with dumplings for lunch and was able to throw together homemade bread to rise in time to have with soup for dinner.  Hopefully my children actually eat it!

Rothy's is having a big inventory sale and I've ordered 3 pairs of shoes and am debating on a couple bags.  I love their stuff so much and at 40ish % off it's hard to beat.
  • You're all making me annoyed I have zero current travel plans lmao!

My mum and I have considered taking train to Montreal for a weekend - we were suppose to in 2020 - but nothing solidified yet. Mostly because my mum isn't sure if she's retiring and/or reducing hours.

weeeeeell tyvm @Casadena, for forcing me to spend,  yet again.  Rothy’s is something I always wanted to try so I hopped on over and you’re right. Great prices to pull the trigger on.  The afterpay option didn’t help matters either.

    oooooh what did you get?

  • The flat and the square MJ.  I’d love the point but pointed shoes don’t look great on me. I also didn’t read the “order a 1/2 size up” note until after. Oops. If I can wear with no sock, I’m fine.  What did you get?

I have the black square mary janes and I love them so much!!  I got the nude/brown loafers, grey points, and camel points (to replace a too small pair i sold).

What I'm debating on but definitely don't need is either a dark brown smaller bag, or a medium size bag in a mustard/camel color.  They're both pretty and i'd use them all the time, but it feels more frivolous than shoes for some reason!

If they do end up too small, there is an amazing resale market through a bunch of Rothy's dedicated facebook groups!  I hope you love them though!
  • Me too! Kinda funny how 1/2 the reviews say buy your normal size and the other half says buy 1/2 up! It really does depend on the person.

I believe I wear my regular size. I really like the loafers. Unfortunately, I can't wear any of them right now because of my plantar fasciitis. They have no to very little support. I really should try that secondary market site but hope to be able to wear them again someday.

For myself, I find reviews like that helpful because I usually wear a 6.5, but barely.  For trying shoes on in-person, sometimes the 7 is a better fit.  So if even a few people say they run small, I know to size up to the 7.

@Casadena, I still have a referral link you PM'ed me a few years ago for Rothy's, lol.  I clicked on it (not sure if it is still good) to check out the sale.  But even though it was a good opportunity to finally try Rothy's, I stopped myself.  I'm moving in a few months and just don't want to add to the "stuff".  But if they had a good Black Friday sale this year, maybe they will next year also ;).

@short+sassy they do this kind of sale twice a year usually!  They also send out random coupons for $30-40 off a couple times a year if you're on their email list.

@ILoveBeachMusic if it won't make them too tight i've had good luck using Dr. Scholls or other types of arch supports in some pairs that feel too flat. Maybe that would help?

I love Montreal!  Such a cool city - I hope you go.  I went for New Years 7 years ago.  We got slammed with a huge snow storm though, so that was weird, but we had a great bed and breakfast, saw the fireworks, went to a comedy club .... fun times.

I'm loving the vacation talk.  I've never done a cruise though, unless you count the Rhine River cruise that is more of a ferry.
