Croaky Wednesday

Well, lost my voice.  I feel much better though, the cold symptoms are gone and just took my voice with them.  How's everyone else?

Re: Croaky Wednesday

  • @ei34, I'm glad you're feeling better.  Hopefully you will have your voice back for tomorrow.

My cold is still in full force.  I'm really annoyed because I was planning to take the day off.  But an urgent task came in late yesterday.  It won't take that long and I'm planning to leave at lunch.

I'm under contract for one of my duplexes!  My agent is also the buyer's agent.  She initially told me he was going to make a full price offer, but he didn't.  Meh.  He offered $5K off the list price because one of the tenants is moving out at the end of the month.  Ummm...yeah.  The rent for that unit is $1300 and it's easy to find tenants.  But this will be his first investment property and I know he is looking for something pretty turnkey.  At any rate, I countered back at $2K off list...the equivalent of about 6 weeks of rent...and he accepted.  I'm happy with it.  He's a very qualified buyer and my agent isn't worried about his financing.  So hopefully we make it through the inspection unscathed.

On the plus side, I don't need to do showings and find another tenant.  Whereas I would have felt obligated to do that, if he had made a full offer.

FWIW, I already have one potentially lined up.  She's the sister of the other tenant.  Coincidentally, I spoke to her yesterday afternoon.  They had expressed an interest in one of the other vacant units we had back in August.  I gave them "first dibs" and everything, but they never turned in the application.  They've regretted it and told us to let them know if another unit becomes available.  Which we did two weeks ago.  They might be SOL again because they keep dragging their feet.  Now that I am under contract, the buyer may become involved in choosing them because they will be his tenants.  I want him to be fully comfortable in the choice.  Unfortunately for them, he seems the most interested in renting that unit to a Section 8 tenant.  I still don't have their application, but e-mailed it yesterday afternoon.  I've passed along what I know about them to my agent, so she can pass it along to him.  I guess we'll see how that plays out!

  • Cranky Wednesday here. DS is home on winter break (and he is not scheduled to return to nursery until we know if we are staying), DH is home. Since we were supposed to be flying yesterday, our nanny has started full time at her new job. I haven't been riding, gymming, sewing, or studying... I am so tired of seeing my family 24/7 for what seems like since October but I know has only been a couple weeks. I really want to book a spa day or girls night but DH is so judgey about needed a break. (Which is bullshit and why he has so much anxiety and other issues but its not a fight I want to have at the moment.) I might break down and get a bottle of wine but even I hate using alcohol as a coping mechanism. I will book something soon but I don't know if it will happen before the holidays. I know these are FWP but I am not used to not having time to myself sometimes.
  • I am really looking forward to the time I can work one day a week from home.  Wednesdays are just not my day.  I was dragging out of bed.

Nothing too big going on.  My neighbor, K, finally had the breakup conversation with his live in roommate/BF last night.  It wasn't pretty.  I took Thumper for the duration of it, just to keep him calm and safe.  I'll chat with K tonight, just to make sure he's alright.  I was worried, so went to bed later than I have been and I think that's what made me drag this morning.  Also, tomorrow is payday and I'm so glad.  Being nearly a month without incoming income has been a bit tough.
  • You need like 5 spa treatments and a weekend away @missJeanLouise. With all the stress of go/ not go and two young kids you need all the breaks.
  • Day 5 of Covid and starting to feel a bit better. Well I start to feel better, so some stuff then get tired and light headed. So marginally better. Just having a lot of trouble focusing. Did anyone have this while they had Covid?
  • @ei34 oh shit! Was yours more sinus? Might be related to nasal drip - mine was.
Vocal rest sucks and is hard, but less you talk the better. From Friday until Sunday evening I didn't speak unless absolutely necessary and it was so much better. Monday still had not much of a voice, but it was more functional.
Also if it's sinus, I suggest doing anything to help that - sinus spray, gargling, etc. Helped me

    @short+sassy fingers crossed!!

@charlotte989875 my coworker had covid and her biggest issue was brain fog. Symptoms for her was just a day and half but the fog was full week.

    @missJeanLouise you need a break :\

    @VarunaTT Wednesdays suck.
  • So did I mention we're getting a new cat?

Long story short, we are. We were suppose to get this sweet little grey and white cat BUT he's bonded to the sister - and with Penny we don't want a girl. Had he bonded to a boy, we would have taken both.

Anyways, we're getting a different cat from the litter because my mum basically changed her mind so we get her cat - which is a cat very similar to Angel and a former cat we had Sylvester. Funny enough, I didn't want that. But this is like Penny, I didn't want a ginger yet here we are lol

We get him likely very soon, they just got spayed yesterday.
  • I'm dragging today too. H is back in the office for the first time since 2020 for their holiday party, so I got up and ran with him at 5:30. I keep thinking it must be lunchtime already, but it's not even 10 yet. It's cold and rainy today, so that doesn't help.

Nothing much else going on. I'm trying to figure out what our plans are for xmas weekend, but my family are being difficult. If it wouldn't cause massive drama, I would just stay home and order chinese food.
  • I can’t tell if I’m getting sick or if I’m just stressed but either way I am not pleased! Fortunately getting a big work task done today and then work will chill a bit

This is how I feel every morning when I run early.
  • I'm so impressed with those of you who run at all, i can't imagine doing it at 530am in the winter.

i'm getting down to the wire and actually have to finish some work tasks in the next week. I'm moving desks early next week because i'll be out for the rest of the year before I start my new role. Super excited!

Finishing up my last few christmas presents today and tomorrow and then need to start wrapping - then need to order all the food for G's little bday party.  He has his first birthday party to go to on Sunday afternoon for a school friend - I let G pick out his present and he picked a huge bucket from Costco filled with fun bath stuff. Finger paint, weird soap things, color tabs, paint brushes, etc. It seems fun and as a parent I would love that it's all stuff that is "consumable" and won't take up space in my house forever.

My sister is flying in tomorrow! Picking her up int he afternoon and she'll go home with my parents on Sunday for the week, then my whole fam is heading there Christmas day through NY.  It will be so nice to have a "vacation" and not be in our house for awhile.

I dont' mean to scare you but the brain fog/focus issues took months to mostly resolve.

I've heard a lot of people say this.  My mom had COVID for the first time recently.  It was one of her complaints.

As far as I know, I only had COVID once (tested negative, but I know I had it).  The fogginess didn't happen to me, but I didn't have any of the other typical symptoms either.  My blood sugars went super out-of-whack and my insulin became less effective.  I'd never experienced anything like that.  But I felt fine, otherwise.

Speaking of blood sugars going nuts, I'd swear that might be a long term effect that COVID caused.

In the past when I caught a cold, my blood sugars would go up slightly.  That's normal and it wasn't a big deal.  An extra couple units of insulin until I was better would keep it in normal ranges.

But this is the first cold I've had since I contracted COVID and it's been crazy high blood sugars again and my insulin isn't as effective.  I'm taking 2-3x as much fast-acting insulin as I normally do in a day, plus about 20% more longer-acting.

    I've heard this.

Also not to be scary but I know of 2 people who have this as part of a long covid issue.
They also had significantly worse symptoms overall and much older.
  • @charlotte989875 I experienced brain fog when I had covid. I would say it gradually got better over time but I was about 80% better 3 weeks after getting sick.
  • @Casadena that sounds like great gift for my nephews! I should look at Costco but I’m scared. It’s busy enough without holiday shopping.  I stopped off at the Dollar Tree yesterday and they actually have a lot of fun wrapping paper designs.  I needed tags, bows, ribbon etc and that’s always a good place.

Quick recovery vibes for anyone sick or getting sick!

  • The brain fog seemed to take about 6 months to get better and I really feel like it's gone now; it's been almost a yearr since I've had covid.  I can't decide if it affected my memory or not.  I've had some traumatic years, plus having had covid in January 2022, and just aging in general, so some of my timing seems to be off in my memories now.  The only reason I notice it and think covid, is some of them are long term memories that shouldn't have been affected by the last few years.  I've even had family members ask what's wrong with my memory now.  It's not enough to keep my concerned, but I noticed I've changed some habits to keep better mental track moving forward.

The thing I really dislike is now when I get even a little sniffly or sore throat, the brain fog seems to come roaring back.  It's gone pretty quickly, but as someone fighting year round allergies, it's a bitch.

I had this and it lasted for about a month. It was like I just could not get organized. But I also realized somewhere in there that I don't really like my job anymore, so maybe covid just made it worse?

Same. It has me very concerned given my Dad’s history. I’m overall healthier (lifestyle wise) than he ever was, but still. My memory used to be annoyingly sharp. Since I’ve had covid there’s been more than a few times when H has brought up something and I don’t remember it at all. That scares me.

  • Yikes. Okay that’s all not great. I’m going to hope that it’s a result of me working when I’m still sick and should be resting and not something that is going to last for months! I just don’t remember feeling like this the first two times I had it.
  • So with changes in my job, we also have pay day changes.
    We're going from bi-weekly to semi-monthly.

Luckily for this month it's fine so I don't need to rush and change things but apparently to change my car payments I have to call :'(

    Do not want.

Other news, I need to revamp my wardrobe more but M & I are redoing our closet, so I think we'll do that.
As we're changing stuff, it'll give me a chance to physically touch everything and see what to keep vs toss and what I still need.

Side note I think BK has her first snow day this week.
    We're suppose to get
    Thursday about an inch
    Friday 5 inches

Ideally it tapers off for Saturday because my friend A & I have plans and it'd be better not to have to fight with lots of snow :\

  • I am supposed to land at midnight tomorrow and HOPE that the storm isn't affecting my ride home.
  • i put in the order for food G's bday on Saturday and we're going to have way too much, but oh well.  It will be really fun and he's so excited!  Hope everyone starts to feel better soon and travel isn't too disrupted for anyone!

So happy you all get to celebrate!!
  • First time checking in since returning from NC. Hope everyone feels better soon. @Casadena G deserves a great birthday party.

I had a fun time this weekend. A college friend had a big birthday so some of us got together to celebrate her. I also got to see my niece and meet my great nephew. I hadn't met him yet thanks to Covid. He's 4 but I don't get down there that often any more. I had fun driving around my old hometown. I stayed with a college friend who was staying with her sister. We had a great time together.

Now it is full on Christmas prep. I'm just about done wrapping. DD's birthday is tomorrow. We are going to Chicago for the weekend (baking cookies with the grandsons). H will probably go to his Dad's next week and return on Friday. His dad is doing better but realizes he can no longer live alone. H is going down to give his sister support in finding a facility. DS2 is coming home next Friday and spending the whole week at home. DD and family won't be here until after Christmas as will DS1. I think we will have our family Christmas on the 29th. DS1 and DIL aren't coming when originally thought so some things are up in the air.

My book club Christmas party is tomorrow night. Looking forward to it as always.
