Wedding Woes

Friday

Whew, I am beat this week.  I think this is the first time in awhile I have worked 3 full weeks in a row (b/c I was definitely experiencing absenteeism as a burnt out employee at previous job), plus had my allergy shots every week.  It's just been a lot.  The new job is so great; I'm also kind of stuck in a limbo phase right now, so I'm looking forward to the end of the month when I can just start pulling my own weight how I want.  Also, my new office is even bigger than the one I'm in and has a window!  **singing** moving on up!!

Not too much going on this weekend.  I'm going out with a friend to meet his new boyfriend on Saturday, but otherwise, will be staying home for most of it.  I might even cancel that, depending on how I'm feeling.

Re: Friday

  • It’s so awesome how happy you are because of this job switch @VarunaTT, you can read it in your posts :)

A few meetup regulars and I were going to drive around and look at Christmas lights later tonight but we won’t go if it’s snowing.  And it’s snowing now.  I hope it stops soon because I have to go grocery shopping too.
I started to declutter my skincare cabinet and toss old masks and lotions I haven’t used in years just taking up space. How lovely it was to organize everything and rediscover what I have. I also used 3 masks because it was time to throw them out so my face is smooth and soft. I’m trying to use all I have left and make way for only farmhouse fresh products because - love.
I also need a bathroom deep clean. Anyone have a hair catcher for the drain that’s good? And easy to clean? Mine is rubber and gets really gross really fast.  TIA.

  • It's wet snow, so luckily it wasn't too bad.
Worst part about wet snow is trying to get it off the Jeep - I'm also short.

BK was penned to stay home but M got maybe 2hrs sleep last night, so she went to school so he could rest.

Redoing budget and if my budget works the way it should, I'll have my loan paid off in March :D
I'm excited to get rid of the stupid thing lol
I'm also wanting to drop the account amount by half
  • ((hugs)) @charlotte989875.

I'm taking this afternoon off.  I need to go get a few more wrapping supplies and then come back and wrap, wrap, wrap.  Tomorrow we're hanging at the house for the most part.  Sunday, I think DH and I are going to do some shopping.  We're also going to have a date and send DefConn to FIL's house.  I need to find out where DH wants to eat.  Maybe we'll try a new spot.

    Have a great weekend y'all.  :)

@CharmedPam the tub hair catcher that I use that I LOVE finally came out with a metal version and is far easier to clean and doesn't get that weird gunk stunk to it:

  • @VarunaTT so glad each time I read about your new work environment, happy you have this positive change!
@CharmedPam ahh love a good cabinet cleanout as well as a good face mask :)
@charlotte989875 *hugs* just saw yesterday's post about your dad, you've got so much on your plate right now.  I'm sorry.  I wish you could have a minute to breath

Today is the first day I feel fully better.  Crossables crossed the kids remain healthy- I've re-masked at work and toying with putting them in masks next week, leading up to Christmas and the subsequent week off, just so no one picks anything up.

This is my annual Christmas cookie baking weekend.  I'm adding a peppermint bark this year that I'm excited to try.  The kids will be with stbxh tomorrow from around 9-5 or so, and I've got to lay out their gifts, make sure it's even lol, wrap them, put their stocking stuffers together...assemble teacher/etc gifts which I like to send in Monday even though we go until the 23rd...put together the cookie trays...something else I'm forgetting bc my list isn't in front of me...
Sunday is our church's Nativity pageant, I have two angels and a shepard this year.  Was toying with piecing a menu together because my parents, brother, and two aunts I don't see on Christmas anymore are coming straight from church for dinner, but decided this morning to just order pizza, with everything else I'm doing this weekend.
  • So I just bought like $100 worth of lipstick to make myself feel better.
    what'd you get
  • Not exaggerating.  I had one of the craziest days of my life yesterday.

It started out normal enough.  I had left work early at 2pm on Wednesday to try and rest up from my cold.  Plus there were tornado warnings and heavy thunderstorms expected not much after that.

My H gets a text message from one of our tenants on Wednesday night that there was a roof leak and some water was coming into the bedroom.  This is one of the duplexes we have for sale so, ugh, one more thing we need to fix.  He tells her he will come by the next day to put a tarp up.

I decided to take Thursday off because I still felt sick.  Planning to be in my PJs all day.  But H asks me to drive him over (he doesn't drive) to that duplex so he can put the tarp up and then we will head right back home. Okay.

Holy s**t!  Wow did our tenant under-sell what had happened.  We think a tornado touched down on the roofs of some of the houses in that neighborhood.  Tons of people with roof damage (though our next door duplex was fine) and one of the electric poles was pulled down about 30 degrees.  But 1-2 streets over, the houses were fine.  There was about an 8' strip of our roof that looked like it had been peeled back.  One of her bedrooms was open to the sky!  The bedroom next to it had the ceiling hold (thank God), but the roof was missing above it.

Fortunately, the other unit for that duplex was fine and the roof was fine.  The storm/tornado had at least not peeled back the entire length of the roof.  All the tenants for both units were not injured at all.

I'm in the parking lot at Harbor Freight because now we need to pick up more and bigger tarps.  When I got a phone call from my realtor.

An investor's agent had called to make an offer on the other duplex.  My agent said it was already under contract.  They asked if the other one was in the same condition because they saw it had just come back on the market.  She said it was and excitedly called to tell me they were going to make a full price offer.

F**k my life.  I give her the bad news.  I throw out that she can pass along to the buyer that I will be putting a new roof on the house and repairing the damage.  It would then be an even better deal because now it will be brand new roof, but at the same list price.

But yeah.  We were both thinking the buyer would pass.  Maybe wait until it was repaired but, by then, they might have found a different property.

I don't know what magic or voodoo spell my realtor spun.  But she is a ROCK STAR!!!  They still made a full price offer, just with an addendum that I will put warrantable new roof on that can be passed to the buyer plus fix up the tornado-caused damage.

Overall, a really bad day.  Because now I need to spend money and time.  I'm debating if I'll have my insurance cover it, but that might come with higher premiums to follow me for years on other properties.  I have an e-mail out to my insurance agent.  But at least I had some unexpected good news, despite it all, and am currently under contract for both of those duplexes now.

In the words of comment from the NOLA subreddit, "We already have hurricanes and floods!  Does it have to be tornados also?"

Awe @charlotte989875 you deal with stress like I do! With retail therapy.  And not only that, make up retail therapy! I’m sorry life seems to be throwing you curveball after curveball.  I meant to tell you yesterday your feels are all justified!
@short+sassy I would grab up that duplex now more than ever too! Same price. New roof! w/warranty. Seems like the buyer makes out IMO.  But so much for your “stay at home” PTO
Thanks everyone for the drain recs.  I picked up the one you mentioned Varuna.  Also love that ya’ll gave me amazon links. It’s like you know me or something. Haha.

I am intrigued by the one you shared as well, @VarunaTT.  How many showers before you have to empty it?  I have a metal catcher, but it seems I have to clean it after every shower, and it still affects the water flow.  A bit annoying.

Yesterday was a crazy day - work was nuts, and it was the last day for a lot of people for two or three weeks, so I'm sort of on my own for a bit doing my training.  And just feeling drained in general - I'm looking forward to time off because I really really need to destress from everything.  I was going to go out with friends for the weekend but decided to cancel so I could veg.  Got Christmas gifts bought and wrapped instead.

  • @kerbohl I'm growing my hair out again and I just seem to lose a lot of hair in the shower/bath, so I have what I feel like is above average hair fall.  I probably have to clean my out every 2-3 shower/baths or the water drains slowly.  The water drains easiily when the catcher is clean.  It also is easy to get the hair off, which I appreciate (not as easily as the rubber one was though, that one I could just fold in half and grab it, this ones takes just a bit more finagling).  It just comes off in a big circle clump.  I just throw it in the dishwasher every weekend for cleaning.  It really seems to have helped with the hair in the drain, it's pretty rare that I have to clean out a clog anymore.
  • @VarunaTT I have that issue, and my hair dresser said to try scrubbing at the root more when washing hair - it might seem like a lot, but usually it's normal and just getting tangled in hair and not falling out per usually. So it builds.
If you scrub at root, it will help reduce hair tangle building.
  • @MissKittyDanger I suspect some of mine is due to having curly hair and having a water activated curl cream.  So, I"m pushing product through all the strands, doing the "hands praying" method on the hair, and then scrunching.  All on the wet hair, which is just weaker.  But it makes my curl pattern work, so it's kind of a trade off.

that's fair. You've also been stressed lately, which I'm sure doesn't help.
  • Both Chiquita and I have longer thick hair.  I'm cleaning out the shower drain every 1-2 days and more often when I make her shower daily in the summer.
  • I have a stupid question then.  Longer hair falls out easier?

  • I don't think so.  It just wraps around stuff a lot easier and thicker, so I have to change my drain more often.
  • I have a stupid question then.  Longer hair falls out easier?
I think a) when it does fall out it’s more noticeable because each strand is longer and b) because it is longer it’s a bit more prone to breakage.
  • I don't know that it falls out easier but with long dark thick hair when it falls there's just more of it than when it was shorter.  There is also the likelihood that with more tangles possible then more fallout is possible.
  • Ok good because I was ready to cut my hair! 🤣
