Thundersnow Thursday

IDK if there will actually be thundersnow, but they keep saying this winter storm is gonna be a whopper.  We'll see how it shakes out.  Stay safe everyone!!

DH received some pretty interesting job news last night.  He's waiting for more information, but he's the preferred candidate for a massive promotion.  It's being posted today, I think and then he's supposed to get a call from a big boss about it. It would be a lot more travel, but the opportunities it presents are pretty amazing.  In a year or so of having *big decisions* to make, here comes another one.  I'm looking forward to hearing more about it all.

I've been off since Tuesday (sort of, I've had to keep an eye on work shit).  It's been pretty relaxing.  DefConn and I have been doing a good mix of getting stuff done and having downtime.  I haven't been stitching as much as I planned, but maybe I'll get to that today and tomorrow.

Prudie coming up.

Re: Thundersnow Thursday

  • We’re prepping for a massive storm. H is a weather denier and it drives me bananas. He’s all “let’s wait and see” while I plan for what they say and if it’s better then great! We’re forecasted to get lake effect on top of the frigid temps and 65 mph wind guests.

Im done with work. Shopping is so close to done (just need to pick up wine and liquor) so today is deep cleaning and wrapping. The renovations are not done so we don’t have a tree but we’re making due with a felt tree from Amazon but I did buy some lights up going to hang around our indoor windows.
  • Our snow prediction was 4-8" and we got about 3".  However, the temps have plummeted and it's currently -8 F.  Winds to pick up tonight with gusts up to 65 mph. We are under a blizzard warning as that 3" of light fluffy snow is going to blow around and cause whiteout conditions.  We are scheduled to travel Sunday to my Aunt's, but things should be settled by then.  My youngest brother is an over the road trucker and it's not looking great for him to be home but we'll see how that plays out.

Otherwise it's my Friday.  Hello 4 day weekend.  Will wrap presents tonight and cook tomorrow.

  • I am crossing my fingers that this storm is wet but that we keep power.   Between the bitter cold and all I just don't want to be completely SOL.

Woke up with a bit of a runny nose which isn't surprising since DH and Chiquito have been blowing noses all week.  I'm hopeful that this is the only bad feeling I have!
  • @mrsconn23, wow!  Good luck to your H.

Happy holidays, everyone!  I hope you all have a good weekend and stay safe with all this cold weather.

My house doesn't have a central HVAC and I am dreading waking up tomorrow to freezing cold weather.  We have heaters in our bedroom and living room, but we won't have the living room heater on until we get up.

Found my favorite scarf last night, lol.  Yay!  My H found some gloves that are warmer than the thinnish ones I currently have.  So at least I don't have to run those errands tonight.

My last day before vacation!  Gotta slog through it.  I have an appointment set up on Tuesday to meet with a realtor in Ocala.  She gave me contact info for a local bank that does loans for short-term rental properties.  I'm going to contact him today and hopefully can get set up a meeting for Tuesday also.

I'm not looking to buy anything there "yet" (which my realtor there knows).  But I want to be ready and have my ducks in a row, for when we are.

  • Last work day of 2022 for me today! I cannot force myself to give a shit about anything for work right now. We're not supposed to get any of this storm, but it's kind of rainy right now and it's supposed to dip really cold tonight/tomorrow. I really hope the rain quits soon, because frozen wet trees plus wind is how we end up losing power. I don't think I can handle 11 degrees without furnace, electric blanket or space heater.

I did go ahead and get groceries done this morning. The governor apparently declared a state of emergency (WTF?), so it's going to be insane this afternoon on top of the normal holiday crap.
  • This chart always makes me laugh and @MyNameIsNot talking about the GA governor declaring a state of emergency reminded me of it.

  • @mrsconn23 ooh! Is this something your H wants?

@ei34 partridge in a prudie day ... lol
  • @short+sassy  how I manage to mix between Midwest & East coast on that scale idk lmao!
  • I'm off tomorrow and we're probably letting BK stay home.
She's going to IL's tomorrow for a sleepover but with weather, by the time she's done school it'll be super nasty and I have last minute errands to do.

We're supposed to get a flash freeze too. We're basing the drop of on weather.

I have extra wrapping paper so that's one less thing to pick up :)

We've narrowed down to mini pancakes or french toast casserole on xmas day.

Xmas eve I've gotta swing by my mum's to drop off food for xmas day before I get BK at IL's
I'll be glad to clear out a ton of stuff in my closet lmao! I actually need to pick up frames and later need to get a gift for my cousin & his gf, and my aunt and uncle - but we see them on new years, so I have time :D
  • Love that @short+sassy.  I aways refer to my parents growing up in Winnipeg… and then moving to Memphis later on, laughing at the “world ending” when it’s predicted for a dusting.  To be fair, cities in the south don’t have it in their budget for snowplows, salt trucks, removals, etc.  whereas midwest/eastcoast - any talk of snow coming our way and the trucks are out the night before, waiting for it to fall.
GL to H @mrsconn23, travel may or may not be a good thing. My dad traveled a lot and took my mom and us to a lot of places with him.  We had a fun vacation and he had work meetings.

I’m hunkered down for the next two days myself.  The only thing I’m not excited for is the snow blowing. But, it is what it is.
I went to a fun meetup where we had dinner and a trolley that took us around to see decorated houses and lights.  Really pretty and 👏 to the people still putting up decorations and in the spirit!

  • @short+sassy, I love it! Apparently, there was a really bad storm here in the mid 90s with about a foot of snow. (I wasn't here yet.) People still talk about it the way that the rest of the country talks about Katrina or Sandy. I cannot fathom what would happen if we got 24+, but total societal breakdown sounds about right.
  • That's so frustrating @CharmedPam.  I'm sorry.  :(

People are losing their minds and we aren't even going to have flurries.  Including me.  So I'm not even throwing shade, lol.

I was joking with my coworker yesterday that Mother Nature has betrayed us.  We have ridiculously hot summers, but mild winters.  That's the trade-off.  That's always been our deal.

It is 3 degrees and continuing to drop here.  There's already about 2" on the ground and it's continuing to accrue.  But I am at HOME and WARM and snuggled in PJs and NO BRA and loving life.  Plus was home for 2 more deliveries, so that was a pleasant surprise.  Eating lunch now.

IDK about tomorrow, I'm sure an email will go out.  Tomorrow is supposed to be colder than today, but no more snow.  Im' hoping we still work from home, I"m loving this right now.  Mainly b/c I don't have a lot of motivation and not having to spend it on getting out of bed, cleaned and dressed, and then driving is pretty great.
It's supposed to start in the mid 50s tomorrow and end in the mid teens.

I'll need 3 bras and 3 sweaters just to avoid breaking my windshield.

  • @CharmedPam urg frustrating! :(

@mrsconn23 so like to the US/Canada boarder or is he in any part of southern canada too?
  • Well schools are closing, so BK's able to sleep in tomorrow also.
Last day before holidays, I guess they figured why bother? Even if it turns out to be not as bad as expected, it's not worth it.

I think IL's and I are both eyeing the weather tonight to see what plan is tomorrow.
Saturday here also will be likely fine - snowy but fine.
