Wedding Woes

Frigid Friday

Merry Christmas Eve-eve, if you celebrate.  We do, ha.  DH's family always had a tradition of Christmas Eve-eve where everyone gets PJ's and we've adopted it.  This year since my boys don't ever wear PJ's, we got them hoodies instead.

It's -10ish here.  We already have a fire going.  I'm on the couch cuddled up with a hoodie and fuzzy boots under a blanket.  The wind was fierce last night. It was keeping me up.

DH and I may try to venture out in town for a few things later today.  We'll have to layer up, ha. But we need to get some food for Christmas Eve and Christmas dinner, a few gift cards, and a couple things for the kiddo's GF since I found out she was coming for Christmas Eve.

For those who celebrate, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas weekend.  Stay warm and safe travels if you need to be out and about.

Re: Frigid Friday

  • The storm had started here; we’ve got a state of emergency and a travel ban and it’s just starting. It’s still 25 with a windchill of 7 and 35 MPH winds but it’s all expected to get worse. We’re in the 36-48 inches of snow totals through Monday. Not sure if we’ll make it out to see family at all. So we’re hunkered down and prepared the best we can be! Would have been nice if our contractor wasn’t so far behind and would have put in our fireplace already.

Hope everyone is safe and warm!!
  • Well Chicagoland didn’t get dumped on as much as they thought.  I probably only got .5”.  But it’s windy and we’ll be as low as -10.  My Dad actually asked if they should leave today since the snow is over, but the winds are still making it hard to drive and see and quite frankly I’m opening my door for my honeylove delivery and that’s it.  I still have to clear the driveway but 10 (tomorrow’s high) sounds better than -10 (today’s high).
Last night my internet kept going in and out, so that was fun.  I do need to get a workout in today, but I need a TV show to watch while doing it, thus internet.  I haven’t weighed myself in a month, and I’m up 3 or 3.2 or something like that. BUT I started weights and resistance workouts, so I’m calling it muscle.  Haha.

If you do go out @mrsconn23, good luck!

  • Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!  Last day of work for me for the year, and I am ready to be done.  I had to leave early yesterday - the incoming storm triggered a nasty migraine all day.  It went away last night, then came back this morning, but now that it is finally snowing I feel much better.
I hope everyone isn't affected by the weather.  We are supposed to get a dumping, but sadly, I'm the "wait and see" kind of person.  I mean, I'm all planned for it and we don't need to go out just in case, but I have been doubting this whole time that it will be as bad as they say.  MIL already said they wouldn't come down to the Christmas Eve service tomorrow due to weather, but .... expects us to come see them in the same weather.  So that's a big no on our part - if you think the weather is too bad for you to drive, don't you dare guilt us into coming to see you.  It might be Christmas Eve just with hubby and me then.
In case anyone gets a kick out of it, here is our "tree" this year.

  • My dad said the high there today was -7 (wind-chill) which is better than yesterday's -35. Yikes.

Yesterday I was pretty sure DH and I were heading towards divorce (yes I catastrophize). Today seemed better. We have kept Christmas to a bare minimum this year so I have been ready for a week and just counting the days until tomorrow when I will do day before food shopping and such.

We saw 2 good apartments yesterday. Now we just need the new visas to get completed so we can legal rent one, lol.
  • @missJeanLouise Sorry to hear that!  Even if you are catastrophizing, that is still hard to go through.  I hope that things get better!  I was pretty sure I was heading for divorce this year too, and we pulled it back from the brink.

  • I can only imagine the stress both of you are under @missJeanLouise.  Just think, a few months from
now it’ll all be put past you and you’ll soon see normalcy again.
    Enjoy the time off @ei34
    @kerbohl, that works!

  • *hugs* @missJeanLouise. You guys have been under some incredible stressors lately.

I hope everyone has a wonderful, safe, warm, and full of electricity holiday!

Work and holiday party today. Apprehensive, admin sent out a memo basically telling people to control their drinking and not to grope coworkers dates. Feels like Grey’s Anatomy up in here lol.

Otherwise I am ready for the weekend. I flew threw the store for *cough* alcohol *cough* AND stuff for salads this morning before work. It was already getting busy at 7 am. It was a good call to go now.

  • It is so damn cold here, I can't even deal with it.  We're at 3 degrees and have a high of 10 before it starts plummeting again.  I'm thankful to be working from home and not having to breathe this stuff.  I've got the apartment at 65 just b/c I'm not paying for this heat, on top of having every faucet in the damn apartment dripping and all of the cabinets open to keep the pipes warm.

My aunt P just cancelled their trip here on Monday.  I'm glad they did, but I was going to take the opportunity to talk about texting while both Mom and P were together.  Otherwise, we're just planning a small Xmas dinner with me, Mom, my good friend J and his brother R at 1:00 on Sunday and then hunkering down.  Sunday is supposed to be warmer (in the 20s) but the snow is supposed to be back.  Winter sure came roaring in.

Otherwise, just working on research right now and drinking hot tea.
  • Don't know if any of y'all will see this but Merry Christmas to those who celebrate. It is cold here yesterday was -30's with windchill, -9 without. Puppy learned to go outside and do his thing fast! We lost power for three hours last night. It came back on just in time for me to go to bed. H and DS2 watched the second half of the Pacer's game. I have a pound cake to bake today and we have church tonight. Tomorrow will be quiet since the other two of my kids won't be here until mid week. We will do our Christmas then. Tomorrow will be steak, baked potatoes and brussels for dinner.

    Stay warm and safe WW.
