Wedding Woes

Tuesday

Ah, the weird week between Christmas and NYE, where I never know what to do with myself.

Working from home Thursday and Friday was really nice; at the same time I felt almost feral coming back into work.  It sure was nice not having to be out in the weather though, not worrying about driving through it, what was happening at home with pipes, etc.

Christmas was nice and light for us.  I was over early b/c Mom had forgotten cornflakes, so I stopped at the open grocery store to grab some.  I actually discussed with her the texting issue.  She expressed her annoyance with aunt P as well; Mom said that P had woken her up twice with a phone call when Mom didn't respond back fast enough via text.  We kind of came up with a game plan between the two of us and I'm satisfied with it.  So I feel better about that.  My friend J and his brother R came over for Christmas dinner and I always enjoy both of them anyway.  I think Mom was okay; cooking for all of us gave her something to do that kept her mind off Dad, I think.  It was a hard Christmas for sure.

Mom got some great stuff off of my Amazon list.  It was all practical, but it was also stuff I had marked as "This will make my life easier, buy when have extra funds to blow".  I finally have a doorbell, a really neat docking station for all the electronic things to charge, and a great shoe organizer that I'm really happy with.  I can actually put boots in it!!  I had already given Mom her book early for reasons, and I know she enjoyed it.

I hope everyone had a great holiday and stayed warm and safe.

Re: Tuesday

  • We were warm and safe.  Ended up with just 3" of snow but the wind and frigid temps made it miserable outside.

I was off on Friday.  Woke up to a smoke alarm chirping.  Found it was the one in the office but didn't have any 9v batteries.  So I headed to the hardware store.  Changed out the 2 detectors I could reach on our ladder.  Texted my brother (T) and asked if he'd bring his taller ladder to replace the battery in the detector on our vaulted ceiling.  I prepped for Christmas eve, making lasagna, cheesecake and setting up tables and holiday dishes.

Saturday was final prep.  Brother (T) came early to watch the Vikings game and do a couple of handyman things for us. I went to get my Mom.  Everyone was to arrive by 3 PM and eat an early dinner at 4 PM.  Younger bro (E) and girlfriend hadn't arrived by 4 PM so I texted, no response.  They were 2 hours late and arrived while we were eating dinner about 5 PM.  Not even an apology as they arrived.  I was so frustrated with them.  They are notoriously late so I did buy extra of what they were to bring so we were waiting on it.

Sunday we went to my Aunt's for my Mom's family.  It was fun.  Yesterday, I logged into work for a few hours in the morning and then vegged the rest of the day.  Didn't even change out of pajamas.

Back to work today but have my annual mammogram midday.  Hoping to get out and look at some Christmas lights tomorrow night.

Weather is warming up to double digits so we are enjoying that!

  • It felt straight-up balmy this morning at 28 degrees, LOL.   Friday night was rough because it was just so cold.  I was laying in bed with a hoodie on (hood up), sweatpants, socks (which I never wear socks) and two blankets pulled up over my head and it still took me about 10 min to stop shivering.

I'm at the office.  I'm totally alone in my area.  Everyone is off or working at home.  So IDK why I'm here. I'm definitely not coming in tomorrow, especially since my nieces will be in town early afternoon.  But I don't mind the complete quiet and lack of interruptions.

Christmas was pretty good, save for FIL being a bit of a pill.  I mostly ignored him, but DH was pretty annoyed.  I get that the holidays are super hard for him because he's a widower and had 2 brothers die around Christmas, but like...I have a family too and we need to spend time with them as well.  Also, it's not like DH and I don't have our own grief we feel during the season.

Anyway, the kiddo and his GF stayed Friday and Saturday night and we really enjoyed our time with them.  I'm so impressed by how much growth the kiddo's had this year.  He finally seems content and has some direction.

The kids seemed to have a great Christmas and liked everything they got.  We're all looking forward to my niece's visit.
  • DD and her family are arriving this afternoon after a delay. The youngest grand son had a fever so they took him in to be tested for Covid and flu. Both came back negative so they are on their way with a traffic delay between here and Chicago. DS1 and DIL arrive tomorrow. I just put together a casserole for dinner tonight. We will have our family Christmas dinner tomorrow night.

DS2 and I have been watching the Harry Potter movies. I've never seen them all so I'm enjoying them. All of my kids have watched them multiple times. We watched Glass Onion on Friday - it was good. We liked the first Knives out Movie so was glad to watch this one. I'm putting my feet up for a bit until everyone arrives. Glad WWers were safe from the storm. We lost power for 3 hours but it could have been a lot worse.
  • Glass Onion is next on my list! Glad you liked it!
