Hump Day Wednesday

We made it to midweek!
I have to leave in 1/2 hour for a dental appointment.  Starting on the 24th, everytime I ate something, I’d get pain on my right side upper molar.  It was the left side upper molar that I cancelled the surgery on. I’m just glad my dentist got me in so soon.
And yesterday I was putting some sheets away in my linen closet, and my 20v battery came crashing down on my toe - stored on the highest shelf.  It was so painful, I could barely walk and couldn’t even move it.  Even if a light sheet fell ontop of it, it hurt. It looks bigger, but not purple - but also, I have wide big toes to begin with so it could be my imagination….  This morning I woke up and it stings just a tad, but way better than last night. I can actually move it without pain.
I’m really ending 2022 on a painful note.

Ugh, @climbingsingle, that's such BS at the old job and just serves as validation for leaving

Congrats on the new job AND the engagement!!  I can't even remember how long it's been since we had a new wedding to hear about on the board!  I'm excited for you.

I'm struggling a bit.  I think it's still just decompressing from 6 years of a toxic work environment, and possibly a bit of seasonal depression catching up with me.  Plus it's just been a rough holiday season.  Plus, shifting from "survival" mode to "living" mode is something I've been working on for awhile and the new job, while incredibly helpful withat that, also triggers old patterns of "I don't deserve this, imposter syndrome, and anxiety about the other shoe dropping".  So, I just don't want to get out of bed.  I'm waking up, but I just sit in bed, scrolling on my phone.  I have things I want to do, I just don't want to do them enough to get out of bed.  It doesn't help that it's been cold.  Every time management tries to put a timed thermostat in my apartment, it screws up, IDK why.  I've been considering just buying a Nest on my own, but I know stuff gets weird in leases sometimes (though I've been there 6 years and they've been in my apartment, they're WELL aware I'm not following all the rules like no holes in the walls for hanging pictures).

Anyway, I'm just ready for NYE to come and go (I think I might be doing a NYE movie marathon) and get on with the new year.
  • Wow @climbingsingle!  What wonderful news about the new job and engagement.  Congratulations!  Sorry the old job ended on a sour note.

I'm in a funk today.  DH is on my last nerve and he's really not doing anything bad.  I'm just generally annoyed.

Hopefully, the warmer weather will warm up my mood

  • Congratulations @climbingsingle! What wonderful news all around.  2023 is going to be great for you.  Enjoy the next 2 work free weeks.  Although it’s pretty shitty of them to let you go and even if you DID work, they’d make it as horrible as possible!
@VarunaTT, sorry you’re feeling so blah! I also think with your new job in place, come Spring things will look up!

  • What a whirlwind week for you @climbingsingle. So so happy for the engagement!!!

I’m sorry your old company sucks, but at least you get two PhD weeks of transition time. You deserve a rest!
  • I’m sick. Again. I just can’t seem to get better. H is working and we sent M to school today. I feel so guilty since I’m off work and he could be home but I’m trying to nap and rest.
  • What a whirlwind at work @climbingsingle...glad you're out of there.  And congrats on the engagement!  Ugh tooth pain is the worst @CharmedPam, sending healing vibes
@charlotte989875 how are guys faring in the snow?

Christmas Eve and Day were really nice.  I've been decluttering/re-working the kids' room/de-Christmas-ing the house the last few days.  Went into the city for the Museum of Natural History and Central Park yesterday, taking advantage of the relative thaw (it was in the mid-20s, woo.)
  • What a crazy week! @climbingsingle. Bummer about the job but I’m happy you’re getting out of that toxic environment. And congratulations on the engagement!!!

Weekend was mostly good. Family was a little overwhelming which was to be expected. I need a break from my break lol. Work the next three days and then we have a little trip planned (more of a staycation than anything) for NYE.

  • Does anyone beileve taking your Christmas tree down before NY day is bad luck? They said that on the news.  Actually Jan 6th is the time to take it down without getting bad luck. Never heard of that before?

  • @CharmedPam never heard of a hard date.  Can't comment on the luck piece bc I don't really believe in suspicions to begin with lol (breaking a mirror, walking under a ladder, etc).  Schools reopen right after New Years and I like the tree down before then so I can go back to work with a clean house.  But it's the second-to-last thing to go.  Right now the mantle decor, all Christmas dishes/platters/linens, etc is away, as well as stockings, and the ornaments on the tree.  The tree with its pretty lights will remain until 1/1 or 1/2.  And the last thing to go is the Nativity, which I wait until the Feast of the Epiphany.
  • @CharmedPam I've never heard of a "bad luck" superstition, but Jan 6 is Epiphany, which I admittedly know nothing about.  I have friends who leave all of their Christmas stuff up until the date of Epiphany, b/c it's part of the religious celebrations.

Thanks for asking, we’re doing good here. It’s finally warming up and the snow has stopped!

It’s wild in the city- there’s still a travel ban because they can’t get to the side streets, they’re still finding people who were trapped or EMS couldn’t get to- it’s heartbreaking.
  • Congrats on the new job AND the engagement @climbingsingle!  Boo to your former employer, but good riddance to bad rubbish.  Enjoy your extended time off.

@VarunaTT, all of your feelings are super normal for all the reasons.  But grief is probably the biggest mindfuck and literally makes you distrust anything good or positive.  It will get better.  ((hugs)) friend.

My nieces made it to town safely.  They turned around and left to have lunch with SIL's BFF and stop in at FIL's.  They took DefConn with them.

Today is my last day of work for the year.  DH is also off after today.  Looking forward to a nice long weekend.

  • @CharmedPam I’ve never heard of a hard date. Tbh I feel like taking your tree down so early is more depressing than anything. It just feels so sudden and final. I need a transitionary period. Now in 2020 we did leave our tree up until March and that was way too long lol

  • Congratulations on the new job and engagement @climbingsingle! So nice to start the new year on a happy note. I am sorry about the way your old job reacted but two weeks off - enjoy!

I leave my Christmas stuff up until after the New Year just because I don't like the empty feeling left afterwards. I've never heard it is bad luck though. I'll start working on taking stuff down on Monday (maybe a little on Sunday) and the tree will be the last thing.

We are opening Christmas presents with our kids and grandkids this morning. It has been a totally weird Christmas week. We had our Christmas dinner last night. It was good but as usual H cooked the rib roast too rare for me. I'm getting tired of telling him that I don't like my beef mooing. Afterwards we watched Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. All the other adults are going to a Pacer's game tonight so I will be with the boys alone. Hope they don't give me too much trouble about going to bed.
  • Congratulations @climbingsingle!

We leave our decorations up until at least the 6th.  If you hear the 12 days of Christmas song the 6th is the 12th day and the day the 3 Kings visited baby Jesus.   Growing up my mom taught in a district where that day was so popular it was off for the students and teachers.
  • @climbingsingle, So exciting!  Congrats on the engagement!  Congrats on the upcoming new job!  Reading through your post, I was rolling my eyes at your supervisor trying to change your schedule and take away your floating holiday in the final two weeks.  Then I was LMAO the owner was basically "nope, just leave".  I'm sure you vastly prefer that, especially with it being paid.

@CharmedPam, I've never heard of it being bad luck to take the Christmas tree down before Jan. 6th.  But my H wanted to take the tree down the day after Christmas one year.  I was like, "What?  Are you crazy!  No!  I want to enjoy it at least through New Year's Day."  Now January 2nd, that's when the holidays are over and life goes back to normal, in the new year.  Weelll.  I suppose this year it's more like January 3rd, lol.

Here locally, January 6th (Epiphany) is also the start of the Mardi Gras season.  There is a small parade on the 6th, though the major festivities and parades don't start until two weekends before Mardi Gras day.  January 6th is also when grocery stores and bakeries start selling king cakes.

I'm glad everyone had a nice holidays, despite the weather.  I'm extra glad none of you all (including myself) were flying.  What a travesty that was.  Especially during one of the busiest travel weeks of the year.
