Wedding Woes

Thursday

I feel like poop today.  I think my allergy shot really knocked me about this time.  I'm sure it didn't help that I met a friend and we had drinks last night.  I had a lovely time, but I so rarely consume alcohol now that it just makes me feel terrible afterwards. It's making me terribly unmotivated at work.

One of my friends was talking about sleep chronotypes.  I was curious so found a quiz to take.  The quiz said I was a bear and to try to have a small smack before going to bed at ELEVEN PM.  I was cackling, I can't even remember the last time I saw 11 pm for bedtime, I'm usually in bed by 8 or 9 anymore.

I have decided for NYE that I'm doing a movie marathon of NYE movies.  I know I'm watching Four Rooms and Strange Days.  My other maybes are: 200 Cigarettes, The Apartment, Sunset Boulevard, Phantom Thread, Highball, New Years Evil, The Poseidon Adventure and Snowpiercer.

Not much else going on, really.  I'm glad the holiday season is almost over, I'm ready to figure out a new normal and settle down.

Re: Thursday

  • I am bracing myself for a very busy morning. Two more days left and then the weekend. Still not 100% sure what is happening NYE but we have bare bones plans and that’s okay. Otherwise SSDD.

  • Still sick, I can’t seem to string together more than a day or two between daycare viruses. This may be the universe telling me to actually use my vacation days to rest. I started purging my closet and dressers and got tired half way through.

We have no plans for NYE, we might see if MIL wants M to spend the night and see if we can sneak in a date.
  • @VarunaTT, I had to take the quiz after you mentioned it.  I too, am a bear (it says most people fall onto that). Some questions were hard to answer.  Do you snore? How and when? I don’t know! I’m single! No one tells me my sleeping pattern anymore!  But I usually do snack before bed (which is ironically 11:00).
Hopefully work is a steady pace @levioosa

My group text asked what I was doing for NYE, and when I said comedy club with my meetup my guy friend was like “oh, any single moms? Can I get a ticket?”
i’m sure I have single moms in the group but this meet up is NOT FOR A HOOKUP! And don’t make it weird dude.  This is co-ed so he could come with me… but not if it’s to find someone in my group.  I also find it weird whenever he talks about dating it’s “single moms” he’s looking for. I even said yesterday whats your infatuation with single moms? There’s nice single childless ladies out there! And quite frankly, your track record with single moms isn’t all that great. His friend thinks it’s about “saving a woman” and the more I think about it, the more I agree with that.  So if his intention didn’t have that weird twist on it, MAYBE I’d say come to my meetup and meet someone.

  • Back from Ocala!  And back at work today (womp, womp).  But it was a very productive trip and I'm glad we went.  It cemented our decision to choose this area.  Our Ocala realtor was awesome and took us all around to different areas, plus a nearby town we are also interested in.  Although we aren't actively in the market yet, if a listing we'd normally be interested in was vacant, we walked through the property also.  It gave us a good feel for price points vs. condition vs. neighborhood.

The bad part of doing that is you see properties you want, lol.  We saw one house that was SO PERFECT!  If we were ready to "go" now, it would be our own house.  They had turned the garage into living space, but it would be super easy to make it a studio apartment.  There is also room for one RV to park on the property, which would be additional income.

And then the main house itself was a fixer upper, but only cosmetically.  We could have gotten owner-occupied financing, lived there for one year while fixing it up.  Solid neighborhood near the downtown.  Could then have sold it for a good profit.  Or stayed and done a HELOC or cash-out refinance to take out the equity we'd be adding.

It's funny the different perspectives people have.  There happened to be another couple there for a showing also.  They walked in through the front door.  Turned right, which had the living room and the kitchen.  Immediately turned to their realtor and said they weren't interested and walked back out.  They didn't even look at the rest of the house.  Fair enough, the kitchen is kinda "meh" and outdated and the dark brown, fake stone living room floor is jarring.  Most people want something more updated.  They saw "yuck".  We saw money, lol.  But, hey.  If it's still available in February (unlikely), I'll probably make an offer.

The food scene was better in Ocala than I was expecting.  We didn't have time to go to a lot of places.  But the "mom and pop" places we went to were great.  Casual, authentic Mexican restaurant that had amazing food and good prices.  We also found a good Japanese restaurant with a huge menu.

Not "mom and pop", but I am overjoyed they have a Boston Market there, lol.  I love that place.  Their chicken is so flavorful.  Way better than grocery store rotisserie chicken.  But most of them closed across the country years ago, so it's super rare I'm able to eat there.  In fact, we got a family meal for our Christmas from them.

  • Where's this quiz?  I'm curious now.  I mean, I'm an early bird, but an expression must be different than a chronotype.

    @charlotte989875 rest girl, rest!
@levioosa hope it goes quickly for you!

I took a hard fall in my kitchen yesterday.  There was apparently a very small circle of water on the floor that I stepped on in just the right way that sent me spiraling.  In the moment my left ankle and right knee hurt, so I immediately iced them while resting on the couch for almost an hour.  Gave myself a pat on the back for the rare self care.  Turns out it was my right wrist I should've iced (or also iced).  It was nagging slightly yesterday but I woke up today in pain.  It's not broken bc there's no swelling or bruising and I have motion, but it hurts.  Example, I wanted an orange for breakfast and it hurt too much to slice it with a knife.  Is this serious @levioosa?  Or just a late 30s injury?  :D
  • Oh no @ei34! That sounds painful.  Hopefully it’s not broken! Join me on the injured peoples couch if you want?
actually someone wanted to meet me for drinks tonight (I reactivated my match profile) and I told him what happened, and maybe a raincheck because putting a shoe on my foot pains it even more.  He suggested I wear sandals and he could pick me up to drive. Um.  No. Not on a first date; and not after just a few conversations.

@short+sassy I’m so happy you liked it! It’s going to be a really good fresh start for you guys.

  • @ei34, oh no!  I'm sorry to hear about your fall.  I hope the pain goes away soon for both yourself and @CharmedPam.

  • @ei34 I’m sorry about the fall. And hard to say without a physical exam. The most important things are can you move it? Is cap refill in the fingertips less than 3 seconds? No obvious deformity? Is the pain getting worse throughout the day or is it pretty stable? If it’s still bothering you the same tomorrow you could go in to get it looked at. Of course if the hand is pale, doesn’t have good cap refill, feels cool to the touch, has obvious deformity, or if it’s excruciating, that goes to the ER right away. While being unable to move the wrist or obvious deformity is a good marker of fracture, there can still be smaller breaks that happen with falls on outstretched hands. You can call your doctor’s office today too to talk to the on call nurse or doctor for a telehealth appointment. I hope it feels better.

  • Thanks @levioosa (and sorry to ask for your professional opinion in a non-medical setting when you're already busy enough).  I was waiting for my dr to call back, she did a little while ago and basically echoed all that you said.  I will see her tomorrow if it's worse but it actually hurts a bit less right now than it did this morning.

@short+sassy yay for the fruitful visit to Ocala!
  • Glad you had a good visit @short+sassy

We are off today and I'm currently installing my new FitBit (thank you DH!) and then in a little over an hour we're picking up MIL and FIL and going to see the lobster trap Christmas tree and grabbing pizza.  It's a cute thing out here and numerous businesses paint buoys as well so it's neat to see all the designs.  I may post a teaser photo tomorrow.

Tomorrow Chiquita and I are on a Yule Log hunt with her GS troop in the morning and I'm hoping to convince DH to make Glug, (I can't figure out how to type with the umlaut) but it's a mulled wine that looks delish.

We need to figure out NY plans.  So far we have none.  I'm hoping for seafood and then...that's it.
  • No worries @ei34. If it makes you feel any better, on my hike on Tuesday I took a weird step that that exacerbated an old back injury and I had to hobble the remaining 4 miles down the mountain. Over a friggen step on a relatively flat surface. Yay, 30s. Lol.

@CharmedPam That man is gross and I'm at the point, I'd probably warn women away from him.  But I'm getting a rather intolerant of BS in my old age.

@ei34 you can read about them here and there are links to 2 different quizzes:  https://www.sleepfoundation.org/how-sleep-works/chronotypes
    Also a bear.

Is this chronotype called bears because we growl when we get up in the morning?  Because I know I at least feel like growling most mornings, lol.

  • Also, huge fan of hibernation. Huge.

  • I’m a dolphin. Which is no surprise to me. I have no idea how I function on my norm of 3-5 hours nightly. It’s not by choice. Lol.
