Wednesday?

How's everyone?  Kinda ssdd here (not complaining)...

Re: Wednesday?

  • My tat is finally healed! Yay. I’ll attach a pic. But now my parents want me to swim with them on the 12th… hmmm that’s really close to the 3 week healing time so I gotta find a way out of it.

I moved my cleaning and exam up to yesterday because of the tooth pain I had. I didn’t even mention to my new dentist about the ones that need to be pulled.  She did her xray/exam, saw nothing wrong with the one giving me pain last week (pain has gone away, but we’re having an ortho look at it JIC), but did say I needed a filling on the tooth the old dentist said needed to be pulled. So I said “that’s interesting my old dentist wanted that one pulled”.  The new dentist furrows her brows and goes “pulled? Why? Then you’d have to pull the one next to it?”
“Yeah both had to be done” I told her.
The hygienist, standing around, taking notes was even was like “huh?”
“Well let me look at it again…” So she goes back in again.  “No.  Just needs a filling.  That makes no sense to pull it”.
When the old dentist said I was starting to get a cavity on that one tooth I ASKED about trying to save it first by filling it.. she said no, I’ll never get it clean by the way it’s growing out - so just get rid of it altogether.  I could have lost 2 teeth when I didn’t need to?!? That’s damn SURGERY. I go under for that! She’s getting some bad reviews from me!

  • I started today not knowing what day it was and my appointment that I thought was tomorrow was today.  Whoopee!!

I'm trying to get a small celebration set for Chiquita who had her birthday last month and trying to get things clear was nuts when she also had commitments on her actual birthday.   I just booked a lunch at a place in the casino for her that's got loaded milk shakes and ice cream sundaes and I think I will have to fast for the next 15 days to deal with the calorie count.

In the meantime I'm stuck dealing with paperwork for international shipping and it is the largest PITA.
  • It's a swamp here today. I'm not complaining about it being warmer, but storms came through last night that made a mess. I don't think anyone got the tornado damage that they were warning us about, but lots of limbs and branches down.

Nothing much else going on. I've decided that I'm officially starting to look for my next job, but haven't decided whether to stay internal or move companies. So I've been working on updating my resume and trying to figure out WTF I want to do next. I hate job hunting.
  • I don't know why people bad mouth fruitcake.  Someone left individually wrapped slices (but homemade) in the break room.  They went quick, but I snagged one.  Delicious!

Work is super boring right now.  Not even one new e-mail when I came in this morning, lol.  Our jobsite is in Indonesia.  My "middle of the night" is their normal daytime hours but one day ahead.  Plus some of my client coworkers are on PST, which is 2 hours earlier.

On New Year's day, I was able to place an order for one of the best kingcakes in town.  They're so popular, the only way to get one is to place an order for pickup at a future date.  They opened their ordering on Jan. 1st, but I almost forgot.  I finally remembered late at night.  They were almost out of slots in only one day! For the 7 weeks available for pick-up, only 4 days were left.

I did not have a good night, last night and I am dragging.  We had huge thunderstorms that woke me up at 2am.  I'm not even a light sleeper, but they were just that loud.  I couldn't get back to sleep for about 30 minutes.

I got a call from one of my buyer's title companies.  So at least that is progressing forward.  I need to send her back my lender's info and signed form to authorize the payout to them.  But she also mentioned that my LLC is "not in good standing" with the state of Louisiana because I didn't file my annual report.  That would be because they didn't notify me about it.  As usual.

"Filing my annual report", lmao.  Doesn't that sound so important and official?  It's logging into the state's Secretary of the Treasury website.  Verifying my info is correct.  And paying a $35 fee.  Basically just a cash grab.  But I guess it's part of the income that pays for running that department.

I took care of that after she told me.  Usually nobody cares.  Until I'm buying/selling/refinancing one of the properties owned by my LLC.  Then lenders and title companies care a great deal about it, lol.  I get it.  But still find it funny because the whole thing is completely pointless, except for the state to get their 35 dollars.

  • @charmedpam that is so beautiful! I love tattoos and have none because i'm the most indecisive person ever about something so permanent but i wish i had it in me!

2nd day at new job - definitely going to love it. I'm kind of in a nyquill fog this morning because G woke me up a couple times last night but overall a good day!
  • @CharmedPam, your tattoo looks great!

@Casadena, I'm glad you like the new position so much.

@MyNameIsNot, good luck on the upcoming job hunt.  One reason I've stayed at my company for longer than I probably should have is because I hate all the time and aggravation it is to look for something else.  I feel you on that!

But I'm hoping my staying will finally pay off.  Once I get closer to closing on one of my duplexes, I'll be ready to make an offer on a house in Ocala.  That will be the right time to talk to my work about my upcoming move and my HOPE they will let me WFH, if they want to keep me.

It would make my life SO much easier in a lot of ways, if I can keep my job.  But I can also do the move, even if I have to quit.

I already spoke to a bank in Ocala while was out there to figure out the "income" part of a personal home loan, if I can't WFH.  They said if I got a new job in Ocala, they could approve me based on the offer letter.  Though would prefer the first paycheck.  And/or, if I kept some of my rental properties in NOLA, I could use that income to qualify.  I still have two rental houses that I haven't listed yet and was thinking about keeping them at least until my real estate business in Ocala gets up and moving.  I still make a really good cash flow on them, despite the ridiculously high insurance on one of them.

SSDD mostly.  I'm finally almost finished with the review of all of my new cases.  Also, the co-worker that I had pissed off came in to speak with me this morning.  She didn't apologize, exactly, but I think it's a little better.  My impression is definitely that she has been used to brand new paralegals and it's going to take her some time to let go of things.  For instance, she said, I'll flip this for you, and once I figured out what she meant by "flip it" i was like...why are you doing that?  I mean it's nice and thank you b/c it's making my job easier, but...you doing that right now and taking up that time is making your job harder?  So stop?  I'm self-sufficient, for realsies?

I bought a new movie pass.  Regal is shutting down here, which is sad, but I saw it coming.  I went ahead and got a pass to Alamo Drafthouse.  They've got some restrictions on the pass that make me mad (1 movie/day, can only buy 7 days in advance, only buy 2 in advance/day), but it's going to be nice to see the older movies on screen.  I've gotten for the first 2 LoTR extended editions, seeing Black Panther tonight, and then Sunset Boulevard over the weekend.  I also want to see Babylon, The Whale, and A Man Called Otto, and a few others.  And I think I HAVE to buy my tickets on the app?  Like I can't just walk into the theater and use the pass, which is just stupid IMHO.  And there are no other benefits; Regal gave you some $ off of their concessions too.  Oh well.

ETA:  I am enjoying the Republican implosion.  Those 20 hard right winger mentally challenged are throwing off the entire Party and I'm just over here eating popcorn and thinking, "You made this bed....drown in the shi!t."
  • @CharmedPam Love! I always said if I was going to get a leg piece, it'd be big. Like that.
Could you put something on it temporarily? Like that 2nd skin stuff?
Are you swimming in a pool or lake/ocean?
Also I get it about the tooth thing. Right now I've got the broken tooth set for a root canal but because it's broken, they've given me heads up it might change but they'll tell me. My dentist was ready to push back to keep the tooth if I wanted to remove it. So weird.

@MyNameIsNot why job hunt? Just not happy?

@Casadena I hate the cold meds fog :\  I sometimes get that with edibles, so I don't do those when I have to be awake next day. CBD drinks hit different, so I don't get it
  • @CharmedPam I love it, it's beautiful!

@MyNameIsNot I detest job hunting.  After I got let go in 2017 it took my 8 months to find a job, and it took a crazy toll on my mental health, and even then the only job I could seem to get was a minimum wage job (at the time).  I really, really hope you find something fast and it's not too horrible.

@VarunaTT My book club read "A Man called Ove" that "A Man Called Otto" is based on, and I'm trying to convince them to do an outing to see it.  It does look really good.

I could not sleep last night - hubby as a cold and a concussion and was snoring up a storm, and then the dog was being loud.  so I would up stressed out and grouchy.  And it's so depressing outside.  I need some bunny snuggles tonight, I think.

  • Thanks everyone! I love it!
@MissKittyDanger that’s a good list! Great Wolf Lodge would be so fun. I like the less pressure of “plans”’vs “resolutions”.
@short+sassy I love fruitcake too! My mom makes it really good though so maybe it’s just the way she does it that I like? It’s not dry.
Good luck on the search @MyNameIsNot
@VarunaTT I also left my amc pass. The meetup uses cinemark as a venue a lot and it’s less commitment. Plus, closer to me, thus more likely I’ll go to that one. But amc expires on the 15th so I can get Megan and Coursage in before it’s over.

  • @CharmedPam I'm 90% I'm ADHD {undiagnosed but it wasn't from being ignored - my parents opted to not do it} so I have heavy and low energy days. Resolutions don't always work for that unless I have a back up plan.

Plus honestly half the stuff I'd set as resolutions aren't something I can accomplish asap - it's a progress.

Now that you mention it, I think that's why I liked the one this morning so much.  I do like fruitcake anyway.  But this one was extra good.  It was extremely moist.  More like the texture of a gooey brownie (without the chocolate) then like a cake or bread texture.  It also had a lot of raisins and cherries in it, which are my favorite parts of a fruitcake.

  • Oooh cherries make it!
And thanks @MissKittyDanger, Second Skin is in my amazon cart!

I WISH we had an Alamo Drafthouse here.

The local movie theater in town just closed.  It's run by the town's local version of Donald Trump in that they're a family who own real estate and businesses but get spiteful and don' necessarily know how to run them.  Years ago they ran a grocery store that was not large but also wasn't updated.  So while I could go down there for small bites or specialty meats, the place was looking dingy and needed an interior update.  Of course, that's the kind of investment that is hard to see as profitable so it never happened and when the town got a big chain grocery store, the place folded.

When an Irish pub opened, the same owners vowed to tow cars that parked in the grocery store parking lot - the same grocery store as above that no one was frequenting and certainly not at night.  But hey - show that's what you think of people who want to frequent businesses that you don't own dude.

Now Covid hits and the small movie theater that has not been updated in decades decides to close.  Then last summer it opened for a while and did a fun thing for the Elvis movie (I guess Priscilla lived in town years ago?) and then the dude decided to close "temporarily" citing "lack of quality content".  Meanwhile DH and I never go to that theater because the seats are old, not comfortable, the food is popcorn and candy only, the ramping of the seating is old-style so short people like me have to see over the heads of tall people and the lighting and sound are not updated.

But there's a luxury theater 20 min away with plush seats that recline, snack tables, beer and wine and real food for concessions and great sound and it's thriving.  The owners bought two more theaters in state and approached the owner of that building but he's not selling -because that would only reduce the real estate that they own even if they do a terrible job managing it.

  • Two things:

If y'all need a mental health/habit tracker app, I have tried literally dozens and finally found one that I've stuck with.  It's called Finch.  Basically, you are you and you have a little Finch buddy.  There's no shaming if you don't do a goal that day, but if you DO the goal, there are rewards.  The Finch travels around, chats with you, has cute clothes to buy, the self reflections are worthwhile (like if you are going to skip a chore, it might ask you, why are you skipping this? and make you think about it), and you get to decorate a room.  It also has exercises to click into if you start a panic attack or something that you need help with.  I used that for the first time last week at work and it was very helpful, b/c it had the tactile feedback for breathing that makes it better for me.  I saw someone describe it as a mental health Tamagotchi and honestly, that's a fairly accurate description, only the Finch can't die.  If you try it, you can add me.  But I've had this for 3 months now and I've used it every day, even if it was a minimum usage.

I have "resolutions" in mind, but they were things I was wanting to start working on anyway, so it was just easy to use January 1 as the "you have to do X, Y, and Z by this date."  Anyway, one thing I saw online was to just have a word in mind and every choice you make, is it geared towards that word.  Their example was growth, which then they asked am I growing in my professional life, etc.  I think mine this year is goiing to be management.  I need to learn to manage my life, friendships, and professional life better and I have some specific things I want to do for that.
  • I think McCarthy is showing himself to be a sub who's kink is public humiliation by the most odious people in the House.  That is the only plausible explanation for why he continues to put himself out there for a vote.   LOL  Lie down, man.  You're dead.

It's been a weird day.  Nothing out of the ordinary happened, but I've been just dealing with a lot of things that went on the back-burner before the holidays and are now coming in hot.

    SSDD otherwise.

I mean, he doesn't have an insignificant amount of support.  This is literally 20 Jan 6 traitors holding the entire Party hostage for their demands (one of which is that ONE person can demand a no-confidence vote on the speaker, which is just absolutely stupid, as well as minor players requesting MAJOR committee assignments they have no business being able to have).  At this point, I think the majority of the Republican Party has got to stand up to these traitors if they want any chance of succeeding in their future agenda/plans.

I just don't want Democrats to help them, b/c it's of NO benefit to us at all.  No matter who ends up as Speaker, that person will never reach across the aisle to help protect Americans, so I'm fine with Dems letting the Republicans burn out.
  • @VarunaTT my 2 best friends and i do a "word of the year" every year too - it's fun and we occasionally chat about how we're "living up" to it. My word this year is "commit". I tend to have big ideas and low follow-through - so i'm working toward being better at staying with things for the long haul.  Management is a great one!
  • The weekly special this week for one of my nearby grocery stores...

    cottage cheese

The classic, stereotypical diet food for the first week in January.  It amused me when I saw the new ad today (they start on Wednesdays).

  • @MissKittyDanger, Yeah, just not happy. I think maybe I'm just not that interested in my projects and not feeling a sense of purpose.

Also, on your trampoline park, see if you can find one where adults can play. We did one last week for my sister's birthday and it was way more fun than I expected. The kids had fun, but a bunch of 30-40 something women bouncing around had the time of our lives.
  • @MyNameIsNot there's one near us that is kids and adults lol except for some places for really little ones, then entire thing is for all ages :)
Also has foam pits - which is like a siren call for BK lmao!

I agree that his support isn't insignificant, but good lord he cannot whip the vote or hold anything over anyone to get them to coalesce around him.  So he will be an entirely ineffective speaker (I mean, duh).

As much as this is amusing, it's ridic that we are a two-party system and they share basically 50% power of the government, and one party is so ineffective and dysfunctional that there's a real possibility less than ever will get done and it will still be blamed on the party that wants to govern and is rebuffed at ANY chance to pass legislation that will make tangible improvements in citizens lives.  And dems are SO BAD at messaging most of the time, that they will not have anything effective to fight back with except, "It's not us! It's them!"

I'm very tired of living through one massive historical event after the next.  LOL
  • CNN had a really great analysis about how this is basically the Republican Party's issues (IMHO from the 90s and Clinton conspiracies) coming home to roost.  I agree that he needs to whip his support/power/promises around, but this is what happens when a minority is able to hold onto power and basically, doesn't want anything in exchange, except to build their brand.  Basically, they're not there to govern, they're there to get hired by Faux News:
