A friend of a friend contacted me about six months ago asking for money. He was in a tough place and was reaching out to anyone who had previously donated to a GoFundMe he had set up a few months earlier. I gave a little and didn’t think much of it. Since then, he’s continually messaged me for money, and the requests have started coming more often…

    I'm not sure why the LW hasn't already blocked this guy.  But if for some reason they want to maintain this acquaintance relationship, I guess they could send one message back that they will not be giving any more money and to please stop contacting them on the subject.

    Or just keep ignoring the requests.  It's annoying to take a few seconds deleting voicemails and texts that were not asked for, but I have to do it all the time because that's the kind of telemarketing-heavy society we live in.

    I see the "friend" being like that.  But at least with the friend, if he gets blocked, he doesn't call/text from a new number every time.
