in Wedding Woes
Kind of a blah day so far. Dropoff has been going lots better with G this week thank goodness! SSDD at work. My mom is coming tomorrow afternoon to hang with the boys during their little spring break Th/Fri. I'll be working from home so she's not totally alone!

What's up with everyone else?

    Ugh another dreary day today. Mostly SSDD here. Going to see my nephew tomorrow and then after going to dinner w/ my parents, so I can't wait for that.

    Glad drop off is going better this week!

    I’m burnt out following the latest school shooting. Totally over this being our reality. (I know everyone else is too.) 
    In a busy period at work (lots of annual review meetings) and just in overall cranky mode today 😝

    It's also really gross how almost every headline calls out "trans" school shooter - as if that makes a difference. I'm irate and heartbroken and just feel so helpless to do anything.

    Yes well it’s either gender or video games or library books, etc. And not, you know, guns 😒🤬

    Weekend was good. It was definitely busy and idk how well that will go long term.

    BK is back at gymnastics but funnily enough, she has a friend from preK there. They were pretty good buddies last year, so they were happy to be reunited :) 
    Afternoon was low key. BK didn't fall asleep until late so although she didn't sleep, it was obvious she was tired.
    She went to bed like an hour earlier than normal.

    Sunday BK saw IL's, M and I hit the gym - my friend A & I did a drums class.
    After the class I got the text I was expecting - from BK's preK friend's mom. I knew she'd text, and I'm glad she did because I lost a bunch of contacts after swapping phones.
    Anyways BK's friend is having a bday party this weekend. Originally booked a haircut but we're rescheduling that because bday party is more important lol

    IL's ended up inviting us for dinner, so that was awesome lol

    I slept MAYBE 3hrs Sunday night? So I stayed home Monday to just rest.
    I ended up more so napping so I'd be able to sleep at night.

    So bit of back history - the house I'm referring to, I lived from 10yrs old until 19/20yrs old.
    Also I dream in 3rd person - so like I can watch myself.

    Going into the dream, I knew it wasn't real. Best way to explain, it's like walking into a memory or a photo. You can touch things, but nothing reacts to you.

    I drove the Jeep and parked in the old parking spot, the house door was open so I could easily go in.
    The t.v was on. My dad was sleeping on the couch - which wasn't abnormal. I could touch his sweater, but again - I knew I couldn't actually interact with him?
    I wandered upstairs, and it was exactly how my room was.
    Bright pink curtains, black satin duvet, dresser on the wall beside my mirror.
    I could see all the clothes in the closet, but I couldn't pull anything out or when I touched them they didn't move.
    I walked to the next room and it was my parents. Burgundy blanket, same gold bed frame. I knew if I'd looked in their closet, I would have probably seen the cat that we had then.

    I remember feeling sad. Not nostalgic type, just sad. Going through everything. Seeing it again.
    Last thing I remember is sighing before leaving - then I woke up.

    Today was a shitty mom day for me. It started great but then right as we were about to walk out the door, DS starts crying that he wants his black jacket. This jacket has been the subject of many meltdowns and today was no different. I ended up yelling at DS, and when we got to camp he didn't want to go. I don't blame him, it had already been a very stressful morning so I let him come home. But I was still so mad because I had tons of work to do and I wasted so much time dealing with this stupid jacket and driving to camp only to turn around.
    Later I apologized to DS for yelling and we decided to pick out his clothes tonight before bed but I still feel like the world worst mom. 
    Tomorrow is a new day so FX it goes smoothly and he has fun at camp.

    That sounds like a fairly literal dream to me.  We all sometimes miss our childhood and other stages of our life.  Especially for you because your dad was in that dream.  But we can revisit those people, places, and times in our dreams.

    You've been talking about that you and your H might be looking to move to a new house sometime in the near future.  That also might be your mind starting to prepare itself for the next house and next stage of life you all will be in.

    It's possible that house stuff is affecting me, and thinking about another house would be where BK could be that age. {if we end up moving during our original planned time - BK would be almost 10 like I was when we moved in that other house}

    Tbh I really loved that house. It wasn't even like "oh we had such good times" because there was a lot of shitty times there, but idk. The house is just a lot for me.

    My parents bought my childhood home before I was born.  I definitely have a strong sentimental attachment to it but, at the same time, wouldn't want to live there.  It's from a long ago time that isn't my present.

    My mom still owns it!  She's been renting it out for the last 15ish years.  She talks about wanting to leave it to me and my sister.  Really though, I think she doesn't have the heart to sell it.  It would be easier on us if she did.  But I'd never say that to her.  Taking on that emotional burden so she doesn't have to is the very least my sister and I can do.

    Sometimes that house is in my dreams.  Sometimes it's a weird combo of that house and the house I currently live in, lol.

    I’m with you @charlotte989875. I feel like no matter where I go, exit strategies and the knowledge that it might not be just another trip to the mall or movies, or store, is in my head. And then people want to ask me why I don’t want kids. It’s viscerally upsetting that we will send our children to school with metal detectors and Kevlar backpacks, and practice active shooter drills, but we won’t pass legislation that makes all of that unnecessary. And it is unnecessary because it’s a very American problem. The cognitive dissonance of the conservatives and those who oppose gun control is baffling.

    I truly just want to move to another country to not have to deal with these nonstop shootings. Even after the girls are out of school, we still have to worry about malls, movie theaters, concerts. You're never safe anywhere. I'm so sick of it. 

    And speaking of childhood homes, my parents sold the house we grew up in back in 2005 to a couple that I went to HS with (though they were maybe 3 grades ahead of me). The house recently hit the market, and one of my childhood BFFs had a showing scheduled to see it. The owners ended up accepting an offer, so my friend ended up not even going to see it. But we were cracking up about how funny it would be had she bought it.
