Wedding Woes

Tuesday

How's everyone?  Have to catch up on posts but I hope everyone is okay.  Kind of SSDD following our whirlwind weekend and thankful for the calm.

Re: Tuesday

  • It's an eerie day.  I have nothing to do at work.  Back burner piddly stuff is done.  Zero e-mails in my main inbox because I've already completed what I needed or moved the ones I'm keeping for reference.

I was supposed to be inundated with work starting around March.  But now it is almost two months later (sigh).  I don't know what the hold up or new timeframe is.  I know, at times, busy and stressed out folks would be envious.  But it actually really sucks.

Instead of SSDD, it's Less-SDD, lol.

  • We are enjoying SC - as usual. We have friends arriving today to spend a few days with us. We travel with them and have been to their mountain home. We haven't seen them since we were in Italy last year. Looking forward to some time together. The weather is typical for the beach - sunny with chance of late afternoon storms. I got in a good bike ride this morning. Dinner at the wine bar tonight. If the storms don't happen there is dancing on the square. Puppy is loving this place. He gets nice long walks and can snuggle on the couch. It's a dog's life.
  • Well, I went to the person that I now work for, who is Y, of X-Y-Z firm.  I said, I was originally hired as a float and reported to person N, but I now work for you, so my 6 months evaluation/salary review is coming up.  Who do I speak to?  He said him, told me I was doing a great job, moving files, and keeping him on track and that he'd speak to person N.  IDK what that means, but I'm going to let it sit until the end of the week and broach a conversation with him about the monies.  I think he'd give me whatever I want, N would probably reel him in, but my main issue is him speaking to person D, who doesn't like me, was the source of one of my issues here, and I don't want D having input on anything of any level of importance related to me.

In the meantime, I'm still buried trying to get through the new cases I took on.  It's fine and I don't mind, but I am looking forward to the day when they're all mine from beginning to end and I'm not cursing anyone's name every time I open a file.

Otherwise, SSDD.  I've been really restless lately and I'm sure it's b/c of spring weather, but I don't really know what to do with myself.

@VarunaTT, hopefully N will initiate the next evaluation/salary review conversation, so you don't have to bring it up again.  Emphasis on the SALARY REVIEW.  And hopefully D will be left out of it.

@climbingsingle, that's a lot of teens to wrangle!  Good luck with it.  But sounds like it will be a lot of fun for N's daughter and it's great you all are providing a safe place for her and her friends to hang out at after the prom.

Yup, we'd honestly much have her at home after prom with her friends than out anywhere else.
  • Beach weather, even with storms sounds amazing right about now @ILoveBeachMusic.  Hope you’re having a good time!
glad you got a good review @VarunaTT

SSDD for me.  My Von D shoes came in, and they’re quite lovely - but they run an entire size small.  One pair I could only go up 1/2 a size, but that one wasn’t as tight fitting as the other so my fingers are crossed 1/2 a size up will do. Glad they have a good exchange policy. Even the packaging is pretty!
    That is all.
    No, wait, men are stooopid.
    THAT is all.

  • @CharmedPam, they're both cute!  But I especially see why you like the one pair of shoes.  They remind me of spiderwebs.

  • I'll share a photo later, but Jellybeans is a dingus lol

He has a tube for his food, but apparently he decided to explore this tube and luckily M was there because dingus nearly got stuck *sigh* Hamsters are not that smart but they are funny.

Anyways, we're slowly getting things figured out at home. Decluttering is still a fkn nightmare but we got some boxes out and spare room has stuff again - and less in our bedroom.

Parent question - when did you stop using the monitor?
BK is almost 5 and we're just ... hesitant?
  • The insurance agent I spoke to yesterday got back to me today.  No luck.  He said the current rates I have are better than anything he could find.

I could be wrong, but it does seem like when you're an insurance's current customer, the rates are better than if you're a brand new customer.

Oh, I was told on hiring that it was my responsibility to remind N at the 6 month point.  That wasn't surprising at all.  They are still operating w/out an office manager here and the attorneys are busy being attorneys, so I knew I had to bring it up.  I just didn't know to who now, since I had a change in position.

D is just the accountant, so she shouldn't have any say over my salary, but she's worked here for awhile and she and I have definitely butted heads, so I'm afraid she'll say something to my direct boss.  She's rather nosy and a busybody and I've caught her messing with my computer before.

Additionally, she kept coming into my office without knocking and putting papers on my desk.  One day I said, Oh, I've gotten an inbox right by the door, you can put your things there.  She laughed and said (rather rudely), "Oh, I don't pay attention to that for anybody."  I replied, "You have 10 different inboxes for receipts and other documents that you give strict instructions and labels for and expect them to be followed.  I'd appreciate it if you'd put your documents in my inbox," and kept working, never looking over at her.  She was furious (so I heard), but she now puts stuff in my inbox.

Well, that's a power play by her so she's upset that she dished it out and can't take it.

Not knocking accountants but when it comes to the departments I've butted the most heads with it's been accounting.  They find every way to make it feel like their stuff can't wait, that the issues they're finding are the ones that make or break the success of the company and consider your expenses and salary to be a detriment to the company.

It hasn't helped that those I've dealt that are the worst are those who prefer to handle things via phone (current job) or in person (prior employer) so they have either called directly or would show up at my office door.   With the prior employer if I was on the phone I took to ignoring her if the phone call was clearly business related.  The building wasn't that small.  If you have the time to stand there while I'm doing my job because you can't handle the issue via email then keep standing there.
  • *sigh* the dentist is the worst. There were three teeth we were watching and now they need to be sealed. So I guess I’m doing that today. Funnnn.

Otherwise I’m going to do a Costco run since it’s nearby and it’s the middle of the week so hopefully not as busy. I might pick up Mediterranean food from our favorite place nearby as well.

Work the next three days and I’m a little worried what I’m waking into. I got a cryptic message yesterday that mentioned some possible changes and I’m tired of hearing things via gossip instead of real communication from admin. I honestly don’t need a lot of communication with admin in general—if my schedule was stable I’d be more than happy to just show up, do my work, and then leave, but I can’t stand when my schedule changes and no one tells me.

  • Feeling tired today- I’m traveling to NYC for a work event tomorrow and coming back the same night, so I’m trying to get a bunch of things finished today and keep hitting weird road blocks. At least I’m doing it at home in comfy clothes.
  • My boss and coworkers are gone today and tomorrow so it's quiet.

I've powered through so much because no one is here lmao

My coworker J gave me a "week at a glance" note pad she tried and didn't use. So far ok, we'll see next week lmao!
    {I even put personal stuff like bringing stuff for a return and starting to pick up BK's bday party items}
