Wedding Woes

Wednesday

Well, it finally happened.  One of my kids gave themselves bangs last night  :D it's...an interesting look, lol.
We're having our first week of spring weather and it's been glorious.  Otherwise ssdd (busy at work, busy second shift 3:30-8pm).  How's everyone?

Re: Wednesday

  • I'm being petty and I know it.  I've shared the instance with D and I about my inbox.  She does these power plays all the time; most of the time I am unbothered and let things slide.  I have moments of weakness, though.  No matter what email she sends out, she always puts a read receipt on it.  This email was about our new fax number.  The read receipt came up and I declined to send one.  Petty, I know.  Also, really?  A read receipt for the new fax number?

I'm working from home today and am trying to get through a big project.  Also, Dolly Parton just released the track list of her new rock album and holy wow!  I'm trying to decide which pre-order I want to do, b/c Amazon has pink vinyl and her website has clear and red.  I want the pink, but I'm intrigued by the idea of a clear vinyl.

    SSDD, no big news.

I'll be honest that I used read receipts when I was younger because it was a power move and then realized - if you use read receipts for ALL your emails it's because of your inability to trust and control.

Is your office big enough that these behaviors can be addressed or is she Queen D?

  • Can we talk about how fkn expensive the container store is? I was thinking instead of ikea to maybe go that route with closet.

Nope. Almost 3x what ikea is saying. Not worth it for me.

Anyways we're starting to make summer plans.
Days off booked and hoping M can take a few days with us. I decided to do 2 weeks.

We're looking at a water park at some point. This seems best idea for BK
Water slides and attractions of Mont Cascades waterpark

Chiquita did this and they took FOREVER to grow out in 2020.
  • Ah bangs...a rite of passage.

Leaving work early to get a mammogram today. Then of course running a bunch of errands. But it's gorgeous out today so I'm happy!
  • @VarunaTT, that's the kind of harmless pettiness I like!  At a different job, I reviewed and submitted people's expense reports.  My supervisor, who I really didn't care for, had one held up for a couple months because she kept forgetting to bring the receipts from home.  A few times, she asked me to remind her about at the end of the day.  I did, she'd still forget.

One day, she said she really needs to be reminded on the weekend and asked me to call her on Saturday.  We don't work on the weekend, though she usually checked her e-mail.  I thought she was kidding (still do), but wasn't entirely sure.  So I laughed like it was a joke.  She did also and didn't say anything else.  But my wheels were turning.  Oh?  You want a reminder on Saturday?  Done.  I sent her an e-mail reminder about the receipts, but set it up so the e-mail wasn't delivered until Saturday.

She didn't have much of a sense of humor, but did find that funny and mentioned it on Monday.  I asked the obvious question, "Did it help?  Do you have the receipts?"  Nope, lol.  I think it took her 3-4 more months before she remembered to bring them in.

I had some good news last night.  Long story short, it might be advantageous for us to put my husband on the deed and loan for the new house.  Especially if he gets a WFH job and I don't have one.  But he had really bad credit years ago and hasn't had any loans/credit cards on his credit report since.  Or so we thought.  We assumed he would still have bad credit, which could make it impossible to put him on a home loan.  He finally registered for Credit Karma last night so we could see what we were up against.

He's an authorized signer on a few of my credit cards.  I'd done that so he'd have cards with his name on them because every once in a while, stores will ask for ID to verify it's your card.  That was it.  A pretty minor reason and I almost didn't bother.

Thank goodness I did.  What I had totally forgotten about is, even though I was the one who applied and it was only my credit considered when I opened them, an authorized signer gets all the same goodness (or bad) of the payment history.  That gave him a credit history that otherwise would have had nothing on it.  He has a great score!  Such a relief.

  • @banana468 I think with D, it's a combination of all 3?  Basically she's one of the very long term employees here.  I've been told that the bosses are all aware she's an issue, but they're just waiting for her to retire.  I've also been told that she desperately wants the office manager job, but that's been a big no.  She's mostly harmless and I can usually laugh off her behavior, but she has caused me a massive problem that to this day, is still a burnt bridge with one co-worker.  After that, I've learned to work around her as much as I can.  We really don't have much day-to-day interaction.

TBF, this is such a minor annoyance to me after the massively toxic atmosphere I was previously at, that I can usually laugh most of it off and be professional about most things.  It is petty of me, but I'm human.

  • Ahh yes, I cut my bangs as a kid.  My mom was going to take me to a hairdresser but I was to impatient and was like nope. Doing it myself! It didn’t turn out that bad.
Thanks for telling me about Dolly @VarunaTT.  Um. YEAH.  Getting that.

At 4:51 yesterday I shot a text to my trivia loving coworker and next thing you know we’re doing dinner and trivia with the out of towners.  Such a good time.  We sucked.  But we had fun sucking.

  • Chiquita realized what a terrible idea it was when it literally took about 18 months for them to start to look like they could be worked into her hair style.  Her soccer pictures that year are a sight to behold.

It's a BUSY afternoon w/ Chiquita at GS and then I have to have her at a soccer scrimmage 25 minutes away from our house at 6:15.  It's a night on the fly and I'll finally get to chill out around 9 once everyone is in bed.

Friday I'm going to visit my dad who gets home tomorrow and then I'll get to see my mom.  I'm looking forward to that as the Mother's Day visit since the weekend is also busy with more kid stuff including a soccer game mid afternoon on Mother's Day that's a solid 35 -40 minute ride away.

  • I definitely cut my own hair as a kid.  Also, my nephews cut their hair on the last day of school last year before SIL could confiscate the scissors from oldest nephew's art box.  They both have curly hair, so it was a *look*.  LOL

I have a rare 'clear calendar' day today.  I'm enjoying it and trying to do some clean-up and follow-up on things that I put aside.

The new car is the bee's knees.  The biggest learning curve is the tech since I was driving a 2011.  A lot has changed.  So many warnings and dings and 'nanny' (as DH calls them) features.  But the ride is so smooth and quiet.

SSDD otherwise.  Stoked to be home this upcoming weekend.  We had fun the last 2 weekends, but being OOT two in a row was a LOT.

This is why my car is named "Sassy".  I swear the first few months of driving, I felt so judged by my vehice.

@MissKittyDanger I google imaged searched Mont Cascades and one of the first images to show up was the park on fire, lol.  I'm sure it will be a fun place.

Training day today, and then it is MIL's birthday so we are going out for dinner.  It should be interesting.  Tomorrow we go to Stratford to see Paul Gross play King Lear.  I am uber excited.

    Edit. I can't spell.

  • @kerbohl omg! Lmfao Whoops!
Overall it's good. We have a few water parks but BK will enjoy Mont Cascades best - others are more slides or older kids, where MC has wading pool and small slides.

I look forward to dealing with this with my next car, lol.  Mine's a 2009, and I hope to run it into the ground, so fingers crossed no new car in my future for 5 more years.  But, it still has manual locks and roll up windows.  And my sweet sweet CD player.  I'm going to have  a hard time finding a car that has manual locks, I don't think they exist anymore.  But I like them.

  • I asked my mum about this.

I did cut my bangs but she said it wasn't that bad. It was worse when I clipped my own toe nails because I clipped too far and had to gauze/bandage it for awhile. It was apparently really bad

Her words "I would have rather a bad haircut than the nail clip job you did"

I had bangs as a kid. They looked nice until they grew out. So I part my hair on the left side of my head and just brush my hair over the top of my head and a little across my forehead.

I had braids when I was little (about 5 or 6), then ponytails, then just long hair, then a perm, then just the way it is now, about shoulder length. If it gets any longer than that it gets out of control.

My mom used to urge me to use color on the roots while she was alive. I think it's about time for me to do that again.
  • Hoping everything went well today @STARMOON44

I had a whirlwind 14 hours in NYC, which involved a work event, a quick trip to the Whitney, dinner outside on a patio, and some of the good (decaf) coffee. An exhausting, but great day.
