Wedding Woes

Thursday

We fly out to Lake Tahoe tomorrow!  Though I am working my usual halfday Friday.

My H and I were scoping out places to eat last night.  We found a Hawaiian-Asian fusion place that has a Sat./Sun. brunch.  There are so many dishes I want to try, I told him that's where we are going for breakfast on both of those days.  Overall, Lake Tahoe is not great for food.  From when we've been there before, the general theme is overpriced and mediocre, lol.  So if this place is good, it won't be twisting his arm much to go two days in a row.  There is also a delicious taco stand behind the hotel we stayed at last time.  I'm hoping it is still there.

Hope you all have a great day.

  • Have fun on vacation @short+sassy!

I got back yesterday from a 2 days global division conference in Milwaukee. It was nice to be out of the office for a few days and catch up with ppl in different departments I dont' see much. I'm also learning that 2 days of too many cocktails and crappy hotel pillows are much harder to bounce back from than last time I traveled for work (pre-COVID). So i'm feeling old and tired atm.

Looking forward to the weekend for sure. I'm going to sleep in on Mother's day and Saturday is supposed to be nicer than Sunday so we're going to go to the nursery and pick out some flowers for the front beds and some potted stuff for the front porch.

Looking forward to Prudie and catching up on posts.
  • @short+sassy have fun in Tahoe!

Mostly SSDD. Enjoying the calm before a crazy weekend. Going to dinner at my brother's house tonight so I'll get to see my nephew. N's daughter's prom is Friday (I thought it was Saturday!) and she's having friends over after. So gotta get ready for that, which sadly for me includes picking up all the dog poop in the backyard..haha.
  • It's hard to tell if BK is hitting a growth spurt or fighting something. Honestly, it could be either.
Past 2 days she's eaten all her lunch and crashed on the couch for a little snooze.
I've taken to packing a few extra snacks because although I pack enough, lately it's not enough. The extras I pack are non-parishables like granola bar, etc.

Downside to tiny snooze after school? She stays up later and ends up being tired again. It's a nasty cycle that likely won't quit until weekend.

Speaking of weekend - we've decided to split the weekend.
M & MIL are doing something after BK has gymnastics Saturday. SFIL is going to watch BK
My mum and I are going to the mall - we're grabbing food and she wants to look for a couple things.

Sunday I've asked M that for breakfast I'd like him and BK to get donuts and me an iced coffee.
Dinner I wanna do either M's pasta or french toast lol The options depend on ingredients we have.
I did ask M to get my an iced coffee maker that's like $30 for Mothers day. I told him I normally wouldn't ask for a gift like that, but I really want one and it's cheap lol
    He doesn't know, I'm getting him a book for Fathers day and probably fishing stuff {around same price point total}
  • Have fun in Tahoe! @short+sassy

Yesterday the power went out at work so they sent us home at 3:30. Which was great, except I still ended up WFH for the next 5 hours. Oh well, at least I was at home and I was able to catch up on things. We caught up on the latest episode of Ted Lasso and then went to bed.

Otherwise SSDD. Hoping today is smoother than yesterday, which was a hot mess before 3, hence the five hours of work at home.

I'm having one of those frustrated mom weeks where I'm annoyed that the stuff I constantly ask people to do isn't getting done.  DH witnessed it when Chiquita left me with a teaspoon of body wash this morning and I threw the bottle out of the shower in frustration.

I've got a lot on my plate and today's the day I'm going to be passive aggressive.  When dinner is served I'm going to loudly tell the family it's ready.  And if no one is seated at the table within 5 minutes to hell with all of them I'm eating.
    do it.
Sometimes it feel cathartic to be passive aggressive, idc what anyone says
  • I am working on merging the physical files into the shelves in my office.  And, of course, I find 5-6 files that are just closed or otherwise chilling for no apparent reason.  Got through those, have "these go to someone else", "these are closed and need to be shredded" and "I have to ask about these" files now.  Working on getting my desk spaces cleared off now.  It's so annoying to have to do this grunt work on a massive scale because previous people just didn't.  And a lot of my reviews of the "active" files have had professionally worded memos that truly can be translated into, "WTF is this still open and pending?  I'll get this finished."  Again, I look forward to the day when everything is mine and organized how I like.

There was a weird weather happening in my neighborhood yesterday.  Basically a funnel cloud started forming, beat the heck out of the neighborhood trees and power lines with wind, rain, and hail, didn't actually form the tornado (thank goodness) and dissipated, all in about...15 minutes?  Most of the downtown businesses ended up closing because the power was out, with no estimated time of resolution.  I know at least one transformer went out.  I'm on a bit of a different power grid from where the majority of businesses are, so my power stayed on, but the internet knocked out for about 2 hours.

Otherwise, SSDD.  I have a friend coming over tonight.  She is applying for a local theatre job and wants some help doing her resume and portfolio.  I always help her on things like this and she's one of my favorite people, so I know we'll end up laughing a lot too.

Poor DH is fighting some major sinus congestion and is miserable.  And he has a HUGE day at work tomorrow.  Like-has-to-wear-a-suit-and-media-will-be-there huge day.

Of course, he slept like shit last night, so I did as well.  Ugh.  At least I'm WAH today.
Actual sinus cold or shitty allergies?
Because M has both and I hate his snoring!

Not 100% sure.   We stayed with friends over the weekend that have cats and other pets.  We are a pet-free home and not used to dander or other stuff that comes along with that.  Also, he was cleaning at the facility where they're having the event tomorrow on Monday and Tuesday.  He definitely was exposed to a lot of dust.  Plus, everything blooming and everyone is mowing all the time, so a lot of pollen and dust are present in the atmosphere.  He's been taking allergy meds for the last month or so, but I think it's no match for all of that.  He said he'll go get checked out if he's not improving by Saturday. He's propping himself up with decongestants and saline rinses.  The last time he went in for sinus crap, they were super conservative about it and basically told him a version of 'suck it up'.  I may suggest adding nasonex to the mix and see if it helps.

I have nasty allergies more in fall {ragweed mostly} and I got a spray my dr suggested. It's a low steroid to help also with nasal drip.

Next time he goes for sinus issues, he should push back. A lot of sinus sprays are addictive so I'm not sure if that's related to dr hesitancy but this is clearly an on-going issue.
  • In today's edition of how truly awful some conservative politicians are, I bring news from Louisiana.

There is currently a near total abortion ban in the state.  A bill was presented to the legislative session for a rape and incest exception to also be added.  There were even two versions of it, were one of them was stricter because the victim also had to be underage.  They both lost yesterday.  Not surprising.

An argument made against it was especially galling.  One of the politicians said an exception like this would encourage women to file false police reports and accuse innocent men of rape, just so they could get an abortion.

I hate that monsters live among us.

  • I read about that yesterday @short+sassy. It's horrifying.
