Tuesday, blah

Hope everyone can power through the slowest day of the week.

Re: Tuesday, blah

  • Yesterday i brought a container of cherries to eat with my lunch. Never had an issue before, but within about 15 minutes my lips were 3 times the usual size, my lips/toungue/throat were numb and i had touched my eyes which were swollen and bloodshot. Spent about an hour being monitored in urgent care after a high dose of steroids and allergy meds. My eyes are a little sore and my upper lip is still swollen but otherwise fine this morning. So odd - but apparently i'm allergic to cherries.

Our new toilet and vanity is getting installed today in the half bath then i can share pics! I ended up not stenciling a pattern on the floor because we loved how clean and fresh the all-white base looked and kept it. Now i just need some pretty rugs and something to hang on the wall!
  • Crazy! I'm assuming you just developed this allergy?

Took a sick day from work yesterday so catching up on emails. We had a great weekend - went down to N's survival school for a camp cleanup. Met so many nice people, did a good amount of hiking and camped out.

We have an air quality alert for NY today due to the fires in Canada. It's been extremely hazy for a few days now.

But in good news, we're opening the pool tomorrow!
  • There's a bunch of wildfires not far from me - one is less than an hour.
We're not at risk, but the smoke in the air is insane. It reeks and there's an orange tinge outside.
BK woke up asking why the outside was orange.

They said unless we get good rain tonight {anticipated} the air quality will be awful all week.
We've never had it this close, so it's crazy.
I'll post a photo of what the sun looks like.

Anyways, I ordered some clothes. I really needed new summer work pants. My black ones were pilling and I've tried a bunch of different ways, but honestly I think it's just the material. They're usually good but I think 5yrs plus fabric it's just not working. Ideally I won't have the same issue with new pants.

I also got some tops - so hopefully I can start rebuilding my wardrobe also.
  • @climbingsingle the sun is CRAZY here today.  It's so orange and we also have an air quality alert too.  It's not an issue for me that I can feel but I've seen people on local forums complaining.  Hopefully it's not a concern for the kids who have sports tonight.

I'm running to do laundry in between meetings.  With one baseball shirt and games just days apart I am running around and hate to run the washer for just Chiquito so hooray everyone gets clean clothes!
  • Oh my gosh, @Casadena, that is scary.  Also, I'm not sure if this will tag your or not, the Knut is being weird.  The home page is....not for me.

Nothing to big going on here.  It was SO.MUCH.FUN seeing Purple Rain on the big screen.  I had perma-smile, definitely.  It's showing tonight and Wednesday as well, and I might just take myself again.  I forgot what a magnetic performer Prince really was.  Another on the "I missed this artist live" list.

Doing my grocery shopping at lunch.  Well, putting in my order to be delivered anyway.

I have to laugh at myself; I do feel so much more stable and just generally mellow and content to happy with the help of the Lexapro.  And I'm SO suspicious of it.  But the problem of having to remind myself that it's okay to be happy, is so much easier to deal with.  Not much else going on really.
  • @banana468 @climbingsingle air is insane here. The fires from me are between 1-4hrs away and east and south :\
  • Ugh, today is going to be slow. I've spent the morning sitting through demos for super tedious automations. I need this day to end already. Nothing much else going on. Summer is in full swing here and I'm trying to find a good time for a beach trip.

So weird about the cherry allergy, but I've heard that it's not uncommon to suddenly develop allergies as an adult. H was over 40 when he developed his allergy to penicillin. That was not a fun one to learn about. Humans are so weird.
  • @Casadena, cherries are one of my favorite fruits!  I'd be so disappointed if I suddenly developed an allergy.  So weird!

Unexpected happy news this morning.  Apparently the local power company is having a planned outage tomorrow that will affect my workplace for the first half of the day.  So they are letting us all WFH!  Yeeesssss!

  • Yeah I bought some cherries and LOVE them but they’re still sour a bit.  I love when it’s peak seasom.  So I feel so sorry for you @Casadena

woah.  Hopefully you get the rain @MissKittyDanger

  • I traded a shift with my coworker so she could manage some family stuff and Im at work and tired today. I almost feel on the verge of being sick.

Otherwise SSDD. I’m sorry about the fires and air quality for everyone.

Bummer about the cherries @casadena. Allergies are the dumbest and most unpredictable things.

@Casadena Jeez how scary / annoying about the cherry allergy!
Yay for the wfh @short+sassy I know that's extremely rare for you

Skies here are wild too, looked similar to your photo MKD, a sheet of brownish-gray with a bright orange-pink sun, zero rays.
Stbxh texted that he's been down/struggling and asked me to bring the kids to see him to lift his spirits and bring him comfort.  Um...it isn't kids' jobs to tend to the emotional health of their parents? *eyeroll* the truth is they'd love to see him so I'm trying to suss out how emotionally healthy and together he could be for them later.  Otherwise pretty ssdd.

  • Twins are keeping us busy this week. Yesterday we went to the zoo for about 4 hours (longest trip yet). Today we went to IHOP for breakfast, then home for some outdoor play time. I took them to the Y pool but the water was pretty chilly so we only stayed for about 45 minutes. Now they are resting for a bit. Tomorrow we are going to the baseball game. I've been going to bed at 9 every night - there is a reason we children when we are young!
  • Scary @casadena are you feeling better now?

I was thinking about you @MissKittyDanger, our air has been so bad in Buffalo I can’t imagine what it’s like where you are!
  • @charlotte989875 Honestly it really depends on where you are. Ottawa is bad and apparently Toronto is, but I know a few people outside of Toronto and they have no issues. So I think it also depends on wind.
  • @Casadena That is exactly how BK became allergic to sesame and actually my mum's step dad was allergic to strawberries for like 6 months!
  • @charlotte989875 I can only imagine that's such a mix of feelings - especially when pregnant. So glad Baby A is healthy and hugs for you/fam/baby B.
  • @MissKittyDanger, that's a crazy pic!  I hope the forest fires get under control ASAP.  And air quality improves for you and everyone else who's on the northern east coast.

    My natural disaster stories:

I was near a major forest-type fire when I was in college.  Not a forest, but it was especially dry and hot.  Multiple big fires sprouted across northern San Diego county over a couple days.  There was a firefighter stationed at our apartment complex, in case an evacuation order was issued.  Fortunately, we didn't have to.

But I took the time to load up my car with my most valuable (to me) possessions.  For a small, silver lining it was an interesting exercise and I was surprised at some of the things I wanted.  I said to myself, "If I evacuate, I expect to lose everything here. What do I take with me?  The only room I have is what will fit in my little Geo Metro. And I might be told at any time to leave."  My childhood stuffed animals were some of the first passengers, lol.

Little did I know, it would be good practice for the gazillion times I've evacuated from NOLA due to a storm.  I have "first tier" and "second tier" belongings.  First tier, I take with me.  Second tier are things I can put in boxes and then stack on higher things, in case of flooding.  Higher things like the couch, the kitchen counter, and the bathroom counter.  Anything that gives a few extra feet.

  • @charlotte989875, hugs! Happy to hear that Baby A is strong and healthy, but so sorry about B. That's a lot to process.
  • Hugs @charlotte989875, roller coaster for you guys for sure!

  • Thank you all! I feel very lucky to have you and to be able to talk about it here. We haven’t told many people in real life yet. I really appreciate you!!
  • I'm so sorry about Baby B. I know this is a lot to process. Glad Baby A is doing well. This happened to a good friend of DD (and grandson 3's godmother). Hugs to you and the family.

  • @charlotte989875, that's some really mixed news.  I'm sorry you all are having to go through this and lost Baby B.  I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly and Baby A stays healthy and strong.
