Greetings from Hell!  At least not a reflection on my own life.  I mean it more literally because Southern LA and Houston are under an "excessive heat" warning.  The real temps are in the high 90s and the "feels like" are up to 115.

I'm meeting my new tenants at noon today to sign the lease.  Then my H and I are off to Costco and Walmart.

My friend/neighbor is having a garden party starting at 5:00.  I'm really looking forward to that, it's just bad timing with the heat.  After dinner, the party is moving into her house for a game night.

Nothing else going on for the weekend, other than hopefully some house organizing/de-cluttering.

Re: Friday

  • oh that sounds miserable @short+sassy! I'm loving the barely 60 degrees and cloudy that we've had most of the week. Walked the boys to school today and WFH today. My boss is out today and all of next week so hopefully just catching up on projects and there wont be anything new coming for a bit.

I canceled a yoga class today bc i'd rather run errands and/or take a nap instead. H is out of the house all day so it's nice to have it to myself! That rarely happens!

Mini golfing and lots of park time for fathers day this weekend :)
  • Smoke is back but so is pollen, so I'm fairly puffy :\

I'm so tired and although I'm sleeping fine, I truly question how restful my sleep is. I feel like I'm not sleeping much at night, so maybe I'm not getting deep sleep?
    Idk.

BK is back at school. Day of rest etc helped. She's still congested but not as junky cough, but her allergies are still rough.
  • @Casadena, I forgot it was Father's Day this weekend.

Hopefully a lot of you on here have fun, family plans for that.

The extent of my celebration will be.  Picking Izzy up.  Waving her paw at my H.  And tell him, "Izzy says Happy Father's Day."  Lol.  I would do that with my cat also, but she will not have any of that "picking her up" nonsense.

  • I remembered it was Father’s Day on Wednesday and my delivery STILL won’t get to him until Monday.  They live in the sticks, even prime is 5 days. I’m going to let him think I forgot about him and then BAM! A book and biscotti a day later.

We have garden parties around here but what are they? I saw pictures from a local club and is it really just showing off your Garden?

I just received a notice of a new order from FTD.  I did not order anything...my bank account seems to be fine....the website when I put the order in shows nothing, so I have no idea what is happening.

I'm making some financial moves/decisions that will hopefully help me be much better at managing my money.  I've moved almost everything I can over to annual.  Then, I bought a bunch of GC in various amounts and I'm using them for the monthly subscriptions that I can't pay annually (bought in amounts for a year subscription).  It's been a process b/c I didn't want to just have "March is when all of your annual memberships come due".  I cannot handle having so many monthly subscriptions for TV, music, workouts, various memberships, etc to keep track of in my ledger.  (I did at one point have it all on 1 credit card, but once an emergency came up, that didn't work out very well long term, so I'm trying this method).  Hopefully, this helps me keep a handle of how/what I'm spending a lot easier and removes some of the anxiety, worry, and overwhelming tracking for it all.  Baby steps, trying to finally figure out this single adulthood mentally healthy thing.

Tomorrow I'm going to see Birdcage with a friend as part of the Pride movies series.  I'm so excited, I haven't seen the movie in awhile anyway and I don't remember if I saw it on the big screen or not before.  Sunday I'm seeing the new Spiderman and I'm stoked for that; I ADORED Into the Spiderverse.  Then I'll see mom.  Also need to hang my tablet up and then no more excuses for not working out, so I'll start Sunday.  I also need to get my menu plan ready.  I'm getting bored of food again, but I do so much better when I bulk cook and then have leftovers.

An annoyance I have:  I've started working to try and be more present in my life in general, not just sitting in front of the TV and vegging out.  So, I've been reading more, sitting in my reading chair to listen to podcasts, and actively listening to music on physical media.  I've started collecting DVDs, CDs, and vinyl again.  I do love vinyl sound, but some of these new LPs are fvcking ridiculous.  They want to do everything on 2 LPs and it's just for $$$.  They're re-releasing a Fiona Apple album and I put it into my cart.  Until I realized it was 2 LPs with 3 SONGS ON EACH SIDE OF THE LP.  No.  I'm not changing sides that often.  So that one stays on CD only.

ETA:  I'm ignoring Father's Day.  IDK what mom feels/thinks about it, but I'll see her and we'll breathe through it together.
  • Exhausted again. Let myself have a small cup of real coffee this morning and it helped a bit but I’m really ready for a nap. I have a 1pm and I’m hoping to sleep after. We get early release today since it’s the day before a holiday so at the very least I can rest at 3pm.

M starts swim lessons this weekend. Wish me luck because he has like zero interest in pools but both our siblings have in ground ones so he needs to learn how to swim a bit.

Good luck! G told me last night "mom, i'm excited to go back to swim lessons this weekend, but i just don't want to get in the water". So that should be interesting....Hope M likes it!!

We lucked out with BK enjoying water, so idk if it'll help now - but we're very pro "getting the face wet" and teaching BK she can do it herself.

    Prep kiddos for swim in the bath by gently pouring the water on them {work up to the face/head}
BK is at the point we're pre-prepping her for the beach, by reminding her to hold her nose and dip her face in the water.

These seemed to work with us :)

Good luck to G & M in swim!
  • Yay for Friday! I'm exhausted and it's going to be super busy. I think I might need to cancel some plans. I had to do a bunch of vaccines for my trip this week, which I think is the reason I'm so tired. Tonight is dinner at my parents', tomorrow long run in the morning, yard work in the day, and book club at night. Sunday we're supposed to go to a Braves game which will take up most of the day.

I'm seriously debating skipping book club. Or maybe I can just take a vacation day Monday, since it isn't a holiday for us.

Oh my god this is hilarious. Good luck with figuring out how to navigate that!

Is it outdoors? Maybe he just wants to get his tan on? Lol
both my nieces and nephews have hated swimming (like really swimming, not standing in a wading pool) if they ever went under water and got it up their nose.  It’s like a 2 yr turn around to take that chance again!

  • Will I make it to the weekend? Nobody knows. But I’ve been able to use my treadmill a little bit at work which is making the day long and short simultaneously. I definitely do not type as quickly on it.

Otherwise SSDD. Going to the grandparents tomorrow and then Sunday we have lunch with H’s parents. I cannot believe that out of five siblings we are the only ones making an effort on Sunday but that family dynamic isn’t changing. It’s just hard to watch. And it stresses me and H out. I want to prioritize my family (of course) because overall we’re closer and the long term support has been there, but I know that’s not fair to H either. Ugh.

@CharmedPam I forgot to ask you, tell me if you think the Ultherapy is worth it (in a few weeks). How much did it cost where you are? Near me the whole face is $4500. I just haven’t been able to stomach the cost. I am desperate to find something for my neck. I’ve always used sunscreen and I’ve been using retinol for a year. My face looks 20s but my neck looks 40s. I also would really love to tighten up my under eyes.

  • It's late, but I just logged off work for the day.  I am on-call Sunday, boo.  But we're boating tomorrow.  Everyone is coming to our house for Father's Day.

SSDD otherwise. Have a great weekend y'all.  :)

For sure! I purchased my first one, the top part because I noticed the eye bags under my eyes when I smile.  I’m fine until I see a pic of myself and I’m like “my jawline is so fleshy!”  I also have the neck rings that need tightening.  It’s been 4 days and my jaw is still tender to the touch!
I used groupon.  $196 for upper and $250 for lower.  I couldn’t get pay full price either.
eta; maybe it would have been cheaper to stop smiling and stop taking pictures of myelf? Lol

  • It really is hot-so much so that I am going swimming tomorrow for the first time since before the pandemic if it's sunny. Got a beach trip planned for next week - that will also be a first-time-post-pandemic occasion.
  • @CharmedPam, she's calling it a garden party because it's outside in her backyard.  She does have a garden, but the party isn't to show it off.

I think of a garden party as being something that is more casual and outside.  Usually with more light food and drinks, like appetizers/canapes.  Though hers was a full meal served buffet style.  She also had outdoor games.

Very cool. I think our local woman’s clubs do them, they’re called Garden Gait’s. It’s a fundraiser and they go from garden to garden… i have been meaning to sign up for the local woman’s club! Thanks for the reminder
