Wedding Woes

Monday

How's everyone?  How was the weekend?
Mine was nice, had some good down time mixed with celebrating my mom's birthday.  I could literally cut through the air, the humidity has gotten out of control.  Like yesterday I did my weekly sweep/mop before mass, and when we got home from church about an hour later the floors were still damp, yuck.  (I know everyone has weather woes right now, not just me.  Just felt like complaining lol.)

Sending healthy / healing vibes to all who need!

Re: Monday

  • Yuck,@ei34, our weathers not bad here.
Weekend was good.  Friday I had a very good facial.  Saturday was the grad party.  Highlight of that was when the grandmother of the HS graduate, turned to me and asked if I was a friend of the graduate. Lol.  Nope, I am a friend of her moms (didnt know she was the grandmother at the time).
Sunday was a bust. I was invited out to go boating but declined because I had a theatre ticket for “39 steps” that I already moved twice.  Turns out it was the most boring play I’ve been to and I left at intermission anyway.  Should have forfeited the entire thing and had a day out with friends.  Who knew?

  • Weekend was short, but good.  I had to come in on Saturday for some stuffs.  I ended up canceling almost everything on Sunday b/c I just needed some downtime.  I missed seeing the Bowie movie, but I'll just buy the DVD and be fine.  Silverstone race was a great race and I was super glad to see McLauren and Norris doing well.

Otherwise, SSDD. Just trying to keep everything on track and prepped for vacation!!!!  I'm so looking forward to some downtime.  When I come back, i think I'm going to have to work at least half days on Saturdays to keep things flowing like I want, because I have 5 trials in 6 months coming up.  I don't mind workign the overtime because of myriad of reasons, but it is exhausting after awhile.
  • I had a nice weekend.  Didn't do much, but just nice to relax.

Prime day starts tomorrow and I'm loaded for bear.  I have $60 in gift cards.  I forget every year that during Prime days, I get 6% back on my Amazon credit card.  I already have a few things waiting in my cart.  I delayed purchase, hoping some of them might get a discount.  But now at least I get an extra 1% back (the usual is 5% back).

I'm shopping for cars.  Strongly leaning towards a Mazda Miata convertible.  Maybe a Ford Mustang.  I've heard good things about the Costco auto buying program.  For new cars, they've already worked out deals that are below the MSRP.  Usually about $1500 more than the dealer's price.  But I don't think I'd want to pull the trigger until our move gets closer or I've totally moved.  New Orleans has some of the worst drivers I have ever seen, plus there is a lot of crime related to cars.  I wouldn't want to buy a car that I like and care about if it's still a few months away.

Here is my problem with cars.  95% of cars look boring to me.  I can't even tell makes/models apart.  I love a good value.  But I also can't pull a $20K-$25K trigger on the cheaper cars that look so blah.  And I also hate that almost all cars are white, black, or silver.  Silver is barely tolerable.  I'm a colors girl!

But to get a car that I like the looks of, severely limits me.

  • @short+sassy I'm the same way re: colors.  When I went in to see "Sassy" (my Crosstrek), the person helping me was like, "You know it's orange, right?"  I said, "Yes, that's part of why I'm here.  It's the vehicle I've been looking at AND I love the color!!"  I get so many comments on it too, people love it.  It does make me very recognizable, which has been an issue at times, but overall I still very much like the color.  Technically, it's "tangerine".
  • Ooo, I forgot.  I'm not huge into celebrity gossip; I generally don't give  AF.  However, I've been following this Jonah Hill stuff with interest.  It also reminded me that we've had some discussions on this board about weaponizing the "therapy speak".  Wowza, did he ever do that.  Like, you need to read the ENTIRE book, sir, not just the jacket flaps or first chapter.  Anyone else seen it, thoughts?  @mrsconn23

I held out for three months while the dealer found me the car I wanted in the particular shade of blue I preferred. The sales guy was so mad and I was like I do not care, I will have this car for at least 10 years, I will wait.

Hate the Jonah Hill texts and I am glad she shared them!

I saw it yesterday morning during my weekend morning, "I don't want to get out of bed, but I'm awake so I'll scroll all the things."  LOL

It's infuriating because he's all, 'my boundaries' and then made a list of demands to control her.  Bruh, you are trash and that's not how it works.  He made a whole Netflix documentary about his therapy process with his therapist (which seems...unethical on the therapist's part).  I didn't watch it because IDGAF about Jonah Hill, but now I'm super curious about how it was produced and edited.  And also, since this therapist is known and whatnot, I wonder if they'll weigh in on all this...since ethics be damned anyway,

Also, the sheer amount of (men) people who are all, "He was being open and honest about his boundaries.  She sucks because she didn't understand/help him/make him feel better."  Fuck off.  All of you.

I know they won't have a car I want, ready on a dealership lot.  Because they all have some special "package" added.  Which adds thousands to the price and all the items are in one of two categories: 1) That's a nice perk, but not one I would pay much for, or 2) I don't care about that at all.

On the lot, you can have it in whatever color you want!  As long as it's black or white.  No thanks, again.

I've heard the dealerships get very side-eye if you want to order it for better customization.  But I'm with you.  If I'm dropping this kind of cash, then they can order the base model in the color I want.  It's okay if it takes longer, I'm not in immediate need.

  • Weekend was busy and frustrating a.f

Friday I barely ate so I was dying of hunger by the time I got home.
Luckily BK was at my mum's for sleepover, so M could do a detail dinner {which is his pasta} I ate 3 bowls.

Saturday I was suppose to have dentist appt. Reception decided to check my coverage and luckily she did because I have no more coverage for the year.

It wouldn't an issue had it been fall. I've got a lot running in and out of my account this summer, so now is not as much fund flow as I'd like.
Anyways I'm calling benefits this week to figure out. If I need to wait until fall because this is accurate, that's fine.

I was so annoyed because I already had a migraine starting, and because I get minor nitrous I couldn't have coffee. So I called M - who was at my mum's place - to make sure there's coffee and tylenol or something.
Honestly I just was in a bad mood all day.

Rest of Saturday was ok. BK had bday party and she had fun. I honestly just rested.

Sunday BK had another party. I did manage to get a bunch of cleaning done too.
I feel like I'm behind in cleaning - idk why. I managed to clean my kitchen fully, and I'm starting on dining room next.
I need to find something for BK's art papers to go in while in the hutch. They fly everywhere.

Since BK had a bday party where she ate a fair amount, I opted to do what I call "pick plate"
aka bunch of stuff you can pick at and it's not fully a meal but it's enough that would fill you up.
BK had veggies, deli meat, pasta salad and cheese.

Right, that's what's annoying me most, the men (and some women) defending him or calling boundary setting healthy.  Okay but set a boundary for yourself.  "I don't feel comfortable doing xyz in bed." "I wake up very early and can't enjoy movies we start past 10pm." etc.  If you're trying to set a boundary for a fellow adult you're a controlling a***hole.
Glad you brought it up varuna I read the story last night and immediately thought of therapy talk emboldening the wrong type of person.
  • How did it go this weekend @STARMOON44?
  • Has anyone else seen vid "I Can See You" by T Swift?

I wouldn't consider myself a swifty - I enjoy her but I wouldn't go to the eras concert if it were here.

But damn. Good vid and the song is catchy a.f

I have a new friend who is a huge Swifty.  She does a lot of flexible, gig work which allows her to travel to any Swift concert in the country where she can get tickets.  She goes to great lengths, lol.

She only slightly follows football, but joined some online Cardinals fan clubs in the hopes of befriending season ticket holders.  Because she knew one of the last concerts on the current tour was in that stadium.  And season ticket holders get first dibs to buy them.  Her strategy was successful and she's going to that concert.

  • Weekend was good. Saturday was a long day of travel and grocery shopping prior to arriving at the island. DD and family were already there, thankfully. Yesterday was a beautiful day for pool and beach. Friends came over for dinner which was fun. Today was great in the morning but storms in the afternoon. The rest of the week is suppose to be good. Tomorrow morning we are going to try to walk to the area of the beach where we can see dolphins. It is a mile both ways. Hopefully the boys can make it. I'm sure they can. Then it will be pool time in the afternoon. I'm ready to just chill but that will only happen during their nap time. DD is perfectly content to sit at the house while the twins have quiet time and the baby sleeps. Hope to go for a bike ride too.

I get why people would wanna see the Eras concert lol I've seen it and it looks impressive :) I just personally wouldn't spend the money they're going for.

That being said, my coworker is a HUGE Swifty so he's piiissssed she isn't in Canada yet.
  • Same.  I'm kind of bummed when I see how much I know peer moms are spending to take their kids to that concert when they're making it into a few thousand dollar night.      It would have been a nice idea but I can't justify the cost when we also aren't swifties.

I know everyone has different priorities/wants for their discretionary income on entertainment.  But there is no way I'm spending that kind of money on one night.

Not even if Elvis came back from the dead for one night only, joined by time-traveling and all still living young Beatles, lol.

I can go on a nice weeklong beach vacation for a few thousand.

There are people in my mom group looking for tickets in Europe so they can take their kids.  I can't...

We went to her Reputation tour and it was a great show.  She also gamified the presale process.  I had to log into her site once a day and do some sort of activity (watch a video, listen to a song, spin something).  And then I got presale code and a time to log in and buy my tickets.  It worked really well.  I bought the max of 6 tickets I was allowed and it was less than $800.  My sister and her H took the other two tickets that I had.  It worked out perfectly.

I think the issue with this time around is that Ticketmaster tries to essentially do 'surge' pricing for these high-demand shows.  The Eras Tour got so much attention because it essentially melted down TM and they were angry AF and loud about it.  It happened again recently with the Matt Rife tour.  So they really didn't learn shit.

I honestly find myself looking at smaller venues that do independent ticketing for shows anymore.  I will use TM if I absolutely have to, but I find myself less and less interested in big shows.  Even the Bonnie Raitt show was frustrating, she was great, but the crowd and the venue were just...ugh.
  • As a DMB fan I'm in the Warehouse and get my tickets through there.  I try to avoid Ticketmaster as much as possible especially for the concert circuit.

I could almost see the European tour IF a European vacation was in the cards.   From what I saw other people quoting, the tickets were less and hey it's a European vacation IF you're not just flying to an dfrom for the concert.   But I'm not looking at taking the kids to Europe anytime soon either.
  • @mrsconn23, speaking of small venues.  Granted, this was a long time ago and I was still in college.

Pat Benatar sold out the huge LA Coliseum.  But the night before, she played at a small venue in San Juan Capistrano (southern Orange County).  Probably holds a few hundred people.  I saw her there.  It was extra amazing because even at the back of the theatre, you weren't that far from the stage.

I'm a bit too young for her "hey day" years.  But she is still my all-time favorite artist.

I've also seen her in Biloxi, MS a few times.

I was probably in my mid-40s the last time I saw her and was laughing to myself that I was one of the youngest people in the audience.
